PSE 7 too buggy?

For the second time, I have tried to make the transition from PSE 4 to PSE 7 and for the second time, I am considering reverting. Is anyone else finding it too buggy to be really useful? I have noticed two main problems so far. The first is performance and may be related to my 3 year old computer. I have an HP Pavilion with and AMD Athlon 64 processor, 1MB of RAM at 986 Mhz. This seems to me to meet the systems requirements but, do I need to upgrade. Usually, PSE 7 will load as quickly as PSE 4 and will allow me to select and edit one or two photos. From there on, the program goes into calender timing mode. Literally, when I try to Save-As an edited photo, it can take 10-25 minutes to complete. Once that occurs, Catalog back-ups are equally slow. What normally takes me 8-10 minutes to do a full backup to a removable hard disc can take hours once the system slows down.
The second bug is that I work in the file folder mode. When I edit and save-as a photo sometimes with a different file name but always to a different folder, it appears to work successfully and, looking at "My Pictures" the edited photo is there. Unfortunately, it is often not in the Catalog. I haven't tried the date-view mode so I don't know if I'd have the same trouble. My method or organizing, that I have used since I began with PSE 4 almost requires I be in file-folder mode.
As an aside, using this forum, is there some way to return to where I was in the forum list once I complete reading a topic? When the topic is on page 2 or later of the list and I finish and hit back, it always returns me to page 1 of the list, not the page I was on when I selected the topic to read.

The extreme performance problems you're experienced aren't due to the specs of your computer -- 1 GB of memory on a 1 GHz processor should be fast enough.  You don't say if you're on XP or Vista (Vista does better with more memory), but 1 GB is sufficient.  (However, adding another 1 or 2 GB of memory would only cost about $50 and be the more effective upgrade for the money.)  Something else is going on.
The second bug is that I work in the file folder mode. When I edit and save-as a photo sometimes with a different file name but always to a different folder, it appears to work successfully and, looking at "My Pictures" the edited photo is there. Unfortunately, it is often not in the Catalog.
You may be encountering one or two known bugs.   First, when you do Save As, you often have to hit F5 (refresh) in the Organizer to cause the new thumbnail to appear, even though the photo really is in the catalog.  Second, Folder Location view is buggy in both PSE 6 and 7, often showing the wrong contents of folders:
http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Folder_Location_view
PSE wasn't designed for relying on folders for organizing, so if that's important to you, you'll probably be better with some other tool.

You didn't mention what error(s) you've encountered? A workaround for the most commonly hit problem is here Re: error in Muse : Object UID:U6875 has two (or more) owners: U3633 and U3165
If you have a copy of your .muse file that has not been saved using 2014.3, you can downgrade by uninstalling Muse and then choose Previous Version in the Filters drop down in the Apps panel of the Creative Cloud desktop app. There will be a popup next to Muse where you can select a prior version to install.

  • OWB 10.2 Design questions - OLAP objects - worth using? too buggy?

I am designing a 2 tiered data warehouse. I have a staging schema where numerous staging tables and key mapping tables are kept and a data warehouse schema where I have relationally implemented dimensions and cubes. I want the dw layer to be made up of conformed dimensions and facts as per Kimball.
For the DW layer, my plan was to create cubes and dimensions which would be implemented as ROLAP. I would then selectively create MOLAP cubes for subsets of the data warehouse.
My first question - does this much make sense or should I avoid the logical constructs of dimensions and cubes like the plague and simply build star schemas as Oracle tables directly?
Assuming I can use cubes and dimensions - how do I control the column names for the cube foreign keys? I have one cube with several date dimension foreign keys. Using the cube editor I get nonsensical names like time_dim_key, time_dim_key1, time_dim_key2. I want these to be creation_date_fk, expiration_date_fk, etc so that they are readable. I don't see any way with the cube editor to control this.
Also, please see my other posts about errors with the role concept on dimensions.
And lastly, have any of you had success in deploying a large scale DW with OWB using dimensions and cubes?

So far the verdict is TOO BUGGY. There is a documented bug in metalink:

    POTENTIAL SOLUTION JUSTIFICATION(S)

Deployment is successful with fewer roles associated.
Looking at the recommended solutions it appears that I can:
    1) limit the cube to very few dimensions making it useless for anything major
    2) Use relational - My first interpretation of this was that I could generate the cube but use the "data objects only" deployment. No such luck. When the roles are added to the cube, the designer window locks up when the roles exceed 8 for the time dimension.
So, the "use relational" workaround seems to imply that cubes and dimensions should be avoided. Anyone have any contrary experiences?
Specifically has anyone done any of the following successfully with OWB 10.2:
    1. Have you implemented a time dimension with more than 10 roles associated with it?
    2. Have you implemented a cube (relationally or otherwise) with more than 5 roles of a single dimension against it?
    3. Have you implemented a cube with more than 10 dimensions of any kind associated with it?

  • Captivate 6 for Mac too buggy for use (screen corruption, mouse/audio instability)

Corrupt Screens. The main problem is corrupt screens (visually jumbled, with elements of previous screens). The corrupt screens appear in both Preview in a Web Browser and in a published project. I've observed the problem when I capture website interactions (using either Safari or Firefox). It might be isolated to web browsers and not other applications, but I'm not sure. The project slides themselves look fine. The problem occurs during the transition to an HTML/SWF-based preview or published file.
Unfortunately the problem appears to be intermittent and unpredictable: one Preview (in Web Browser) might show one corrupt screen; a subsequent Preview (in Web Browser) might show four corrupt screens (after making no changes to the Captivate file). It appears to be related to various timeline factors (mouse position, mouse duration). I was able to temporarily eliminate the problem in one project file by making sure all mouse elements had a 2/10th second gap before the end of the slide and were no longer than 2 seconds long. But in a later test, controlling for these variables did not work.
There are two other related bugs that occur in Preview or publish:
Mouse. If I move the mouse object from its original position on the timeline, say, from the end of the slide to a position just before, and then move it back to the end of the slide, the result is faulty mouse behavior. It moves very slowly over the first part of its arc, then either skips suddenly to the destination or doesn't complete the arc at all when the slide advances to the next slide.
Audio. Sometimes the audio for a single slide will not play. This is intermittent and unpredictable, like the screen corruption bug. The problem sometimes goes away after moving the mouse on the timeline slightly, but this isn't reliable.
In any case, moving the mouse away from the end of the slide is not a desirable workaround, even when it does work. The delay between the "click" and the slide transition looks sloppy, and is contrary to the expected mouse behavior (to quickly trigger a slide transition).
I have been working with two people at Adobe tech support, but we have not found a solution or isolated the problem. I've also documented several keystroke bugs on this forum. So, after nearly 3 weeks of aggravation, I have concluded that Captivate 6 for Mac has serious bugs and is not reliable. I am forced to go back to Captivate 5.5.

I have experienced the exact same issues.  I've republished files over and over again with unpredictable results.  Missing audio, ghost backgrounds, visual artifacts.  That doesn't even begin to address the other major annoyances like the stage jumping around when you do things like adjust element properties, audio editor opening up half off the screen so that it has to be manually dragged back EACH TIME.
I'm totally frustrated and disgusted with the quality of this product.  I don't care one bit about all the new features it has, I just want the featues that are there to work right and work reliably.  Today alone, I lost over 4 hours of productivity to resolving buggy software issues... I'm not exaggerating, 4 HOURS !.  This is absolutely unacceptable.  The software does NOT work well at all.  Adobe should be horrified with how bad this software performs.  I can't say enough negative things about this without using expletives that are well deserved.
After purchssing adobe software for 25 years, I am running out of patience.  They are too big and too focused on new features instead of just making the ones they have work well.  I used to love Adobe more than any other software company.  That is definitely no longer the case.  I have no intention of up doing any more upgrades after this.  If these APPALLING blatant issues are not resolved before they release version 7,  I will not upgrade and may well consider enlisting others in a class action suit.  Fire all the developers who have a hand in this.  Fire all the managers who signed off on it's readiness.  Go back to the drawing board and make this right.
I fully intend on posting this in every forum I can find.  This software has cost me too much time and money.

  • How can I download an old version - e.g. FF3.5-6 - as FF4 is too buggy

I have spent too many hours trying to get FF4 to work but .pdf files still won't open, Flash files won't play, option to save all tabs on close cannot be found: hanging and restarting in safe mode has become a common part of my work day and I can't afford the time.
I would like to reinstall the old version but cannot find any links...
    OS: Windows 7

Latest Firefox 3.6.x can be found here:
    * http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
It would be best to remove some files in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] to prevent problems with downgrading now or upgrading in the future.
Remove at least all the extensions.* files (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and the files pref.js and localstore.rdf and compatibility.ini.<br />
You may have to show hidden files and folders to see the .ini and .js file extension.<br />
This will reset all preferences (options) and the toolbar customization, so you will have to redo those settings.
If you do not need to preserve the history then you can delete places.sqlite as well to rebuild the bookmarks.<br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox
    Some hints about Firefox 4:
You can set the warn prefs on the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/about%3Aconfig about:config] page to true via the right-click context menu or toggle with a double left-click.
    * browser.showQuitWarning, see http://blog.zpao.com/post/3174360617/about-that-quit-dialog
    * browser.tabs.warnOnClose, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries
    * browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
    * browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
You can use Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session to get back the previous session.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Plenty goes on in the background in Mavericks.  For example, software updates are done in the background, so that may be occupying your machine.  Once a new Operating System is loaded, if you use Time Machine, quite a bit of time and effort will be expended on that first backup, which is a complete copy of your disk.

  • Will apple make downgrade to IOS 5.1 available, IOS 6 too buggy to tolerate?

An option to reload IOS 5.1 should be made available if Apple wants customer satisfaction. IOS 6 is not stable enough. Apps crashing, wifi problems, battery life, oh yeah no satellite view in weather apps purchased. Not to mention how bad the new maps are! Come on Apple throw us a bone!

iOS 6 works perfectly fine for me.
    Regarding your maps issue,
Apple is constantly working on improving their new Maps service, but until it reaches the level of finesse necessary to be usable, take a look at some alternatives.

  • Pages too buggy ...

Recently I had nightmare with Pages. I tried to do simple document with two tables in it.
But when I tried to edit tables, Pages started to crash. After 20 different attempts to edit tables I simply switched back to Word.
Now I have looked at console log and I was surprised to discover this:

    ** STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION **
I cannot believe that Apple shipped half made product. So I will simply trash Pages and return to Word.
    Matej

The words "still under construction" can refer to the table, the SFTableController or even the SourceCache itself. It doesn't necessarily mean that Pages is a product that isn't finished.
At the same time, I'm sure Pages isn't finished. There is no software that is "finished". Everything is under construction and can be improved to some extent. Word is no exception there.
But, yes, tables in Pages often behave strangely.

  • Help! How to open PSE 7 without opening catalogue

Tried to migrate from PSE 7 to PSE 9. After catalog conversion the browser seemed to open normally, however crashes in a few seconds. Called the Adobe helpdesk, they come to the conclusion that the catalogue is corrupt, however catalogue functioned normally in PSE 7. Since the catalogue has now been converted, it cannot open in PSE 7 anymore. I was happy having made a back up, but if I want to restore the back up,  PSE 7 is automatically opening the old - converted/ corrupt - catalogue and... hangs. Has anybody within Adobe thought of the possibility to open the software without, automatically, opening the catalogue. Seems particulary useful in these kind of circumstances.
I have tried to open and at the same time helding the ALT + SHIFT+ CTRL keys but that does not work.
First of all I d like to migrate with my old catalogue to PSE 9, but at least I would like to still be able to open my old catalogue (back up version) in PSE 7.
    Many thanks in advance
    Paul
    OS: Windows Vista

    Ken,
The converted catalog is on its original location (hence original version is overwritten). PSE 7 crashes when opening this catalog.
The backup of the original catalog is on an external drive. Now I want to restore the back-up catalog, my understanding is I need to do this with PSE 7. (I tried it with PSE 9 too but got an error message).
However when I open the PSE 7 software/ organiser it starts automatically to open the converted/ corrupted catalogue and the program crashes...
So key question is: how can I start up PSE without opening automatically a catalogue (then being able to restore the BU)
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards, Paul

  • Aperture 3.5 Full Screen mode really buggy

    Let's try this again....
I'm looking for anyone else having this problems to see if they have found a work around.
I have been having several intermittent problems with Aperture 3.5 in full screen mode with Mavericks. Most of the time, it's ok. But now and then, it seems to get stuck on something. When I swipe to go back to another application, it goes to my widget's panel, not the desktop. Swiping up to get mission control, I see the desktop and go to it. That really messes aperture up. You go back into it and its a black screen. I try to get out by pressing F and sometimes it works, sometimes not. When it DOES work, I will select an image in the browsers and strangely enough, the screen goes black and it goes back into full screen mode. Kind of a mess.
Additionally, the entire app seems to drag. Selecting an image make take 3-5 seconds for it to switch from the one it is on to the one I selected. And I'm using a fully loaded top processor speed/max memory 27" iMac from last year.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a work around?

    Thanks, both.
I did try it and it somewhat changes the problem, but it is still there. The full screen system seems to get messed up and when it does, it can't seem to get out of it totally. When it starts singing daisy in full screen mode and you get it to exit full screen mode, the top menu disappears and selecting anything (even empty gray space) within the app sends it back into full screen mode, but once here, nothing responds to user action (can't select images from the browser, the HUD is unresponsive, etc). A few other quirks I can't nail down with any consistency.
The only way I have found to avoid it is to completely exit the application, reboot, restart it and never go into full screen mode. It's still a little more sluggish that it should be, but at least I can do my work and get things to clients. Entering full screen mode just seems to be too buggy for practical purposes so far.

  • If you uninstall PSE 9 & reinstall it will PSE rebuild my organiser?

I need to uninstall PSE 9 and then reinstall it (to hopefully resolve some problems).  If I do this, will PSE on the reinstall, rebuild the Organiser as it is with all my categories, tags and albums etc.,or will I have to start all over again?

Thanks Ankush, you set my mind at rest and I successfully uninstalled and reinstalled PSE 9 whilst keeping my organiser's photo-collection all safe and correctly tagged etc.
One thing though for anyone reading this discussion, with PSE 9 (and I believe PSE 8 too), it is important to deactivate PSE 9 BEFORE uninstalling it (which I did).  This is found under Help in the Editor.
So that was the good news, the bad news is that uninstalling and reinstalling PSE 9 didn't help my problems (not finding and playing music files for slideshows) as they remain not installed. Maybe, there is a preference file or something like that which is carried forward within the catalog or somewhere in PSE from other versions of PSE that were on my PC.  Hey ho!

  • Address book is too slow to be usable

I've just bought the fastest Mac Pro that there is, and put in 16 GB of memory. But the Mac's Address Book is NON-FUNCTIONAL!!!! I have 19,000 addresses I imported from Act. If I try to edit anything, it takes SEVERAL MINUTES for the entry to finalize itself. This is a disaster!
My previous computer was a PC, where I ran Act. It was a slower machine, but Act had no problems in responsiveness; there was no waiting involved when you edit addresses.
    Apple: Please fix this disaster!!!!!!!!
I am using the latest version of Leopard.

I've also observed that my Address Book on an Intel MacBook Pro is extraordinarily slow after a manual update to 10.5.1 following an 'archive and install' of Leopard (this was the second install after doing a simple upgrade and finding the whole darn thing just too buggy to live with. The second time restored general speediness). Ironically, I do not have this problem on my iMac G5, having gone through the same archive & install and manual update to 10.5.1. Furthermore, the Table feature in Pages (iWork'08) is incredibly slow (but not on the iMac). So, I second or third those observations of a slow Address Book. (I've also been trolling the discussion threads on problems synching iPhone and Address Book and Calendar, which again is problematic on the MBP but not the iMac). I have no solution to offer, but if someone can tell me how to just reinstall Address Book and iCal from the Leopard installation disk, I'd be grateful because I think therein might be a solution.
