PSE 7 won't open jpgs

Hi-
I was having runtime errors as well as "could not complete your request because of a program error" with my PSE 5. I tried everything, even the geek squad and no one could help. I was told to upgrade. Well, I did that, I upgraded to 7 b/c I heard weird/bad things about 8. I have not seen the runtime error so far (it's been 1 day) but I get the "could not complete your request because of a program error" *most* every time I try to open a jpg file. Any ideas? I uninstalled pse 5, I in-reinstalled pse 7 and still nothing has fixed this problem.
Thanks in advance

Are you using a 64 bit machine? Can you please let m eknow the OS as well?
Regards,
Chhaya

Preview won't open 'JPG' images downloaded from a USB stick. I get this message, "The image"IMG_0091.JPG" could not be opened"  It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise.
I can see the thumbnail, but they won't open. Can I change this in some way? And, no, I can't download them again as I have erased them from the memory card, but they are saved in iphoto.

You can try deleting the .plist. Quit Preview first.

  • Photoshop CS 3 won't open Jpgs

I upgraded computers (now run leopard on a mac book) and therefore had to upgrade my Creative suite. Unfortunately, my Photoshop CS 3 is useless. Anything I create in it is, according to other programs considered an invalid file format that other systems won't be able to read and it considers all Jpegs that I try to open as invalid and gives me this message. "Cannot complete our request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found." Eve those created in CS2
Any other program can open these same files, just not Photshop CS3. I haven't touched preferences. Is there something in there that could be causing this? Does hte program just not work? If not, is there a way to get rid of it without getting rid of everything else and put Photoshop CS2 back on? I'm not the most computer literate but this seems a very bizarre issue to be having.
    Thanks,
    Sarah

    Hi Barbara!
Thanks for the patience; I did succeed in creating a new account/admin. user, but I'm not sufficiently schooled in Mac procedures to know how to install PE 3 from that account. I did (again) delete the two files and the PE 3 folder, and reinstalled the program with the same result - it still won't open.
As a matter of interest, after completing the foregoing steps, I found the MS Word (from Office:Mac 2004) would not open, so had to reinstall that program; that corrected that problem. Have no idea what the connection is - if any between the PE 3 and Word problems.

  • Bridge won't open JPG files in Photoshop CS3

I changed my preferences to remove the check-box "prefer Adobe camera RAW for Jpeg and TIFF files" , restarted Bridge and tried to open a JPEG from bridge directly into photoshop. But double clicking on the image in bridge opened "paint".
So I change the Bridge preferences back to Prefer ACR for JPEG again, restart Bridge, and then bridge tells me that it cannot find Photoshop CS2. CS2 is not even loaded on this machine anymore.
So then I go to the file type associations preferences and "browse" to the CS3 version of photoshop, restart bridge, and double click on a JPEG and it again says that CS2 cannot be found. I change the association again using the "browse" to CS3 and then it opens the image up in "Paint" again.
Why won't Bridge open JPEG's in ACR anymore?
Why won't bridge open JPEG's in Photoshop CS3 anymore?

Bill, thanks for the reply. But I do not think that the file associations is the answer here. If I am using bridge to open files in ACR or Photoshop, I do not believe that I need to change the windows file type association. I have other PC's where the file association is not photoshop and bridge works fine opening these files. In fact, when using windows explorer to navigate JPG files, I do NOT want photoshop being opened to preview these images. On my other PC's, I can both preview JPG's using windows picture viewer, and open the JPG's via bridge in ACR. Furthermore, Photoshop CS2 is NOT the application listed for JPG's in the folder options in the control panel. So the problem that I have here has something to do with Bridge or perhaps something is corrupted int he files.
The reason why I suspect a corruption, is that not all files behave in the same manner in bridge. Some files with the same extension open as I would expect, while others do not. I did not realize this fact when I made my original post.

  • I am receiving an error message and PSE won't open

Hi. I've been using this laptop (Windows Vista) and PSE7 since the beginning of this year.
Last night, when I went to open up PSE, I got this message:
Adobe Photoshop Elements(Editor)  Has Stopped Working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.'
But, it doesn't give me a solution.
I rebooted. Then I shut down and turned off the computer over night.
    PSE is still not working.
    Any suggestions?
What do I need to do to get it going?
    Thanks,
    Charlene

Unfortunately, there are many reasons why the PSE Editor might crash, and often it is hard to diagnose quickly the reason for the crash.   Here are some steps you can take to try to fix the problem:

  • Photoshop no longer recognizes NEF files / won't open jpg files because of "missing marker segment"

I am running Photoshop CS6 on a 2013 iMac with OSX version 10.9.2.
    1) As of today, Photoshop no longer recognizes NEF files. This has never happened before, and the files are coming from the same camera I've used for the past five years.
    2) I receive the following message when I attempt to open a .jpg file "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)."
This is also the first time this has happened, and happens with EVERY .jpg file I attempt to open.
    3) Both of these errors ONLY happen when I am opening files located on the work server. I hit COMMAND K to connect to serveral work servers -- my work space, shared collaboration folder, and an image archive that was recently moved. If I grab the file that I want and transfer it to my desktop, and open it with Photoshop from there, it works fine.
    I have run all updates.
I'm not sure if this is a Mac issue (with regard to accessing the work servers) or a Photoshop issue.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Photoshop does "play nice" over networks, but seems to catch more OS and server bugs than other applications (mostly because we've added more error detection code over the years after dealing with many OS and server problems).

  • IPod Nano won't open .jpg images Why?

    iPod Nano (Importing Photos)
    Version: 1.1.3
    Model: iPod MA477C
Format: Windows (Should this be "Mac" if I am on a mac? And how would I change this?
I can't seem to import an .jpg image into my iPod Nano. I have iTunes open and my Nano connected. I selected the "Photo'" tab and then selected "Sync photos from: "Choose folder" I then browse to a folder where the .jpg image resides but the image is greyed out. What's up.
I created the image in Photoshop and the exported it as a low res ,jpg image so shouldn't this work?
    Thanks

This happened to me when using iTunes 6. Is that the version you are using? I was never able to find a complete answer to the "Preferences not saved" error or any knowledge base articles with an official explanation. I did however find a workaround in a previous discussion. Connect your iPod and in the short time that it is still visible on the desktop just as iTunes is opening, go to Preferences>iPod and tick "enable disk use". You have to be quick but it can be done. Once it is enabled you will be able to go back and update the preferences such as manual update etc. and and you'll not get the error.
If you are using iTunes 7 try the same technique only tick "enable disk use" in the Summary tab before your iPod unmounts.

  • PSE WON'T OPEN!

PSE 6 has worked fine for years.  I've never had it crash like this.  I resolved the craches of a few days ago by deleting the TWAIN preference (I think it was a preference).  I thought all was well and it was for a few days. Now I click and immediately get a crash notice. NO blue circle like before!  I did all the maintance  a couple of days ago and even reintalled PSE several times.  I deleted everything I could that was PSE so what is left to do?
    Please HELP!

Did you reset your application preference files? I ask because if they are stored outside of the program folder and are not fixed by an uninstall/reinstall.

  • Photoshop CC won't open JPG files, Windows 7 64-bit SP1. I get no error message at all. Very annoying.

I get the SAME behavior on my laptop. This happens with Bridge also. My desktop and laptop are both Core i7 3d gen machines. I had to resort to GIMP to get some work done. I tried updating  to the latest PS CC but it failed to update with error U44M1P7. Any ideas if the update will fix this and I should keep trying to get it installed?

The error message means a Photoshop File is corrupt you need to re-install Photoshop, You can do that right on top of your current install. That will back level CC to 14.0. When you the use CC ment Help>Updates it should be updated to 14.2.1 and all you add ons a r activation will still be intact. Download CC direct installer follow the download instruction else you will be denied access.  Download New Adobe CC Trials: Direct Links (no Assistant/Manager) | ProDesignTools

  • My elements 11 won't open files, can someone help?

I have photoshop elements 11. It was working and then I had to close the program and go do something else. When I turned my computer back on I couldn't get elements to open any of my files. It won't open Jpg or Raw. I've tried restarting my computer mulitple times and It hasn't changed. It still won't open files. It will freeze and then close out of the program. Can someone please help me? I just recently got this program for christmas and i'm really wanting it to work.

    Please try this:
    Solution 1:
    1) Close Elements.
    2) Hit on PSE desktop icon to launch welcome screen
    3) Click Alt+Ctrl+Shift on your keyboad and with all three keys pressed click Photo editor. Do not release when you will see a dialog box asking you to delete the PSE preferences.
    4) Hit ok and check now.
    Solution 2:
    1) Launch Editor.
    2) Hit File->open and choose any small file of size < 1 MB and see if it opens fine
    3) Try file->open as and choose any file and choose camera raw from file format and when shown ACR dialog box hit ok and will open file in editor.
I hope you are not importing fron any network location which might cause the process to slow or freeze depending on network settings and secutiry issues.
    Let me know your comments,
    thanks,
    Garry

  • Photoshop CC 2014 won't open any files, not even create new ones

I have a freshly installed version of Photoshop CC 2014 and it just won't open any single file no matter what I do.  I also have Illustrator CC 2014 installed for the past week, and it is behaving fine, and even opening up the files that Photoshop won't open (jpg, psd, png, etc.).
I've tried uninstalling completely, and reinstalling it, and it still won't open any files.  Basically, nothing happens after I click the "Open" button from the Open File dialog window.
I've also try resetting my user preferences using this video tutorial, and it also didn't resolve the problem: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html
Has anyone else experienced this or can give information on how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

Well, I finally got it to work through trial and error.  Here were the steps that I used to get it to work:
    1) Make sure that you are not behind any firewall/VPN/etc, just a direct connection to the internet (if possible).  I use Adobe for my work laptop, and I was informed that this could potentially be an issue during installation processes.
    2) Uninstall Photoshop via the Creative Cloud application interface.
    3) Right-click on the Creative Cloud icon from the system tray and "Quit" (it was automatically started for me from a previous bootup)
    4) Right-click on the Creative Cloud desktop icon and choose "Run As Administrator"
    5) Re-install Photoshop
After performing the above steps, I can now open any png/jpg/gif/etc file, as well as start a new file.  I have no clue why it works or if my steps played any role in fixing it, but I thought it was worth sharing for others to try if they encounter a similar issue.  It could be either the firewall I was behind, or the permissions (I don't think Creative Cloud boots up running as administrator).  But I am in no position to say I know the exact resolution.  Hope this helps!

  • Unable to open jpg images on iPhone 8.1 email

Since the 8.0 OS update, the email on my iPhone won't open jpg attachments.  Anyone have an answer for this problem?

Can you please share a sample file at the email address listed above? The desktop Reader is pretty forgiving and will often display PDF that is invalid. In general, our Mobile Reader is less lenient, though when we encounter files that the desktop product allows but we do not, we make an attempt to be similarly lenient. A sample file will help!

  • PSE 6 program and apps won't open.

PSE 6 program won't open from the start menu or Windows Explorer and the editor and organizer apps won't open from Windows Explorer. All the files are listed in WE and not empty. This happened recently after I have used the program a few years. Do I need to reinstall the program? If so, will the catalog have to be recreated? There are more than 7000 photos in the catalog. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Try opening Orgnaizer and Editor from there respective exe's and from welcome screen which are at-
    Organizer: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 6 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe
    Editor: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
Welcome screen: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6\Adobe Photoshop Elements 6
PS: Both paths are for 64 bit OS. For 32 bit OS use: C:\Program Files
If that doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling PSE again. Your catalog will not be affected by uninstall/re-intall process.

  • PSE 10 won't open a 2nd time

I just installed PSE 10 (editor and organizer) on Windows 7 machine.  I set the welcome screen not to display and go straight to editor.  Editor opens once but won't open again unless I restart the machine.  I looked in task manager and it seems to hang up there (does not show it's using any memory but just sitting there) once I hit end process then I can open it again.  2nd quirk is that when I hit the house in upper right corner to access the welcome screen (in both editor and organizer) it will not come up.
This is the 1st time I've ever had any problems with an elements program when loading it.  I've read some of the troubleshooting documents but am not comfortable with changing msconfig or the like just to get this to run.  I removed Elements 9 prior to the installing of this and loaded a NIK add on after installing PSE10 which seemed to add on ok.
Anyone have any ideas before I return this to Costco and go back to 9?

Bypass the Unwelcome Screen by creating Desktop shortcuts for the Organizer and the Editor.
    The Editor's executable is:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
    The Organizer's executable is:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
The Unwelcome Screen leaves a zombie process running which prevents the actual program from launching again.
