PSE 8 and ACR 6.1 perspective correction?

After reading about the perspective correction that is supposed to be available in ACR 6.1, I downloaded it and installed it into PSE 8 (Windows 7 64bit).  Installation seemed to work.  It does say 6.1 when I open Camera Raw.  However, I don't see any of the cool new features like lens correction, or
perspective correction.  Do they not work with Elements 8?

PSE has limited access to many of the ACR adjustments.  The ACR you have with PSE8 will actually perform the adjustments if they are in the sidecar or embedded in the image, but only Photoshop or Lightroom have the user-interface to specify those adjustments and place them in the sidecar or embed them in the image metadata.

  • PSE 11 and ACR version

I run PSE 11 and ACR Ver. 7.4.
Also, have LR 4 and have yet upgraded to LR 5.
My question is this:  Adobe indicates Camera Raw 8.1 is available for PSE 11. I have been checking Help>Updates and am informed that this Camera Raw update (8.1) is not available. I keep getting the message that PSE 11 is up-to-date as checked (with Camera Raw 7.4).   Can somebody clarify this - is this update available for PSE 11 or is Adobe's statement incorrect?
Next question - what version of ACR includes the adjustment tools?  Is that part of 8.1?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Yes, I know that Adobe has put some statement on at least one of their web pages that ACR 8.1 is available for PSE, but I don't think that's correct. I don't think ACR 8.1 will work in PSE until PSE12 is released ... but ... I don't really know for sure.
Next question - what version of ACR includes the adjustment tools?
What adjustment tools do you mean?
Some adjustment tools in ACR will NEVER work in PSE (for example, the adjustment brush and gradient filter, and probably the new Upright features as well)

  • PSE 10 and ACR plug-in

Downloade and installed ACR v.6.6 for my Canon 70D and PSE 10.  PSE 10 will not allow download of raw files.  Pleae help!

The 70D requires ACR 8.2 and so requires PSE12.
    Your options are:
Use the software provided with the camera to convert the RAW files to TIF for processing in PSE10
Use the free DNG converter from Adobe to convert the 70D CR2 files to Adobes RAW DNG format. They can then be opened in PSE10 Camera RAW - http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html#downloads
    Buy PSE12.

  • PSE 8 and ACR 6.2

    Hi
I have PSE 8 which currently has ACR 5.5 installed as a plugin. This will not read raw files from my new camera (Sony Alpha 580). I have down loaded ACR 6.2 to see if this would support the files, followed the instructions, moved the 8bi file as instructed, but it still shows version 5.5, even if I doubleclick the new 8bi file. I am running windows 7/64 bit.
Update - I copied over the "Win 64" version of the 8bi file. This doesn't show as having installed, despite the fact that I am running 64bit windows. I've replaced it with the 32-bit version, which runs and shows it as vewrsion 6.2. Eureka. It doesn't support the sony A580.
How do I get ACR support for my camera? I don't see that I should have to buy a new version of PSE!
Hope someone can help - thanks

Either upgrade to a newer version of Elements or download the free DNG Converter and convert the raw files to DNG.

  • PSE 9 and ACR

Hi, I am about to download the ACR version for PSE 9; however, there is no file camera raw.8bi in the appropriate file (... Plug-Ins/File Formats).  Is there because the brand new out of the box PSE 9 doesn't come with that file???  Do I just go ahead and download the ACR ver. 6.2.0.29?
Also, when it is downloaded will I know which file is the 64 bit and which is the 32 bit?
Lastly, does anyone know how to disable the Adobe Photo Downloader from Organizer in PSE 9.   My previous version 5 had an option to disable launching but I don't see that in PSE 9.
    Thank you for any help.

The ACR plug-in is stored in a "shared" location so that both Organizer and Editor can access it.
    On Windows 32-bit, it's here:

    On Windows 64-bit, it's here:

  • PSE 9 and ACR 6.5.0.216 not showing the same colors

As of this week (it was fine last week) when I "open as" for a raw file ... ACR opens and shows (acr defaults and "as shot".... This was fine until today.   Now the colors that I am seeing are dull and lifeless.... when I recover highlights or fill light and open in PSE9 the colors are correct again.
I have not changed the color settings under preferences... it states "none" as it always has.  The camera calibration is Adobe Standard (as it always has been).   I shoot a D700 and a D7000 and they are both showing up this way in ACR now.

Not sure unless you have accidentally made changes. Are you set to Auto or Default. You could re-set your own default settings for the future.
Try clicking the little dropdown menu icon to the right of the basic panel. Clear imported settings and choose your own default settings to save.

  • Perspective correction and Lens distortion removal tools

    Hi,
as a photographer who aspires to create pictures with best possible quality available to me I am very bothered that my primary image editing tool is lacking Perspective correction and Lens distortion removal tools. I believe that there should be no questions if such tools are necessity or so to speak additional enhancements. It is eating the disk space as well having multiple copies clutters the projects if these functions are available only via plug-ins or additional external tools.
How are you guys handling such issues?
For a moment I was thinking to convert all the files through Nikon Capture NX2 before importing to Aperture but that again is counter effective in long run. Aperture is built to work with Raw files and large tif files take longer to process between various programs and I would loose all the benefits of having Raw file at all.

It would be nice to have those functions added to the next version.
I always use the following page to select the product I want to provide feedback on:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Note - due to the number of lenses and cameras, this would be a huge task and the end result may not include a lot of older lenses which really need the correction.
I use PT Lens as a plug-in inside of Aperture for the most part (although I do have PS CS5 and DxO Pro 6 for situations where I want something different).
As you said, the downside is that you end up with a TIFF (from inside Aperture) or a processed file needing to be import into Aperture.

I want to ask about changing perspective and perspective correction in photoshop. Obviously, we can tilt and straighten buildings and other monuments, which are leaning in any direction. Now, what I want to know is whether we can change perspective for human faces. For example, if there is a human face, where one part of the face is facing the camera and the other part of the face is only partially facing the camera, can we make this face look totally at the camera? I mean, look straight in front, and I am talking about the whole face here. I am attaching an image as an example of what I am talking about. @

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.

  • Perspective correction and scaling in y direction only

Nach einer starken vertikalen Perspektivkorrektur werden Gebaeude "zu hoch".
Wie skaliere ich das Bild nur in y-Richtung ?
After applying vertical perspective correction for tall buildings, the buildings get "too tall".
How do I down-scale the vertical extent of the "corrected" image ? (no global scaling) ?

That is not possible in Lr, only in Photoshop CSxx.
Also, in Photoshop CSxx you can extend the canvas at the top, so that he top of the building does not go beyond the image top margin.

  • Issues with Adobe PSE 12 and Premier Elements 12 plus DiskWarrior 4.4

Since upgrading to the final version of OS X 10.10 Yoesemite I have issues with Adobe PSE 12 and Premier Elements 12 plus DiskWarrior 4.4. I don't recall their being any issues while I went through the Beta testing process.  The Adobe products (PSE and PE) give me a configuration message "error 16" and it tells me to uninstall and reinstall. I have done this a few times/  It seems to go through the whole install process until the startup where it crashes.  I downloaded PSE 11 and at least it starts up but I haven't used it to do anything.  Also DiskWarrior 4.4 does not load up from the hard drive anymore (error message) and when I boot it up from disk is doesn't give me the option of correcting permission when repairing files and folders.
At lease all of otheother software including Photoshop Lightroom 5.6 seem to be working.

  • Perspective correction

    Hi,
I know that LR does not have perspective correction and that it has been requested as a feature, but in the meantime I would like to know what people recommend for such correction.
I have Photoshop Elements v4.0 for Mac which I can use to host a plugin, but if people think a standalone program is better then I could use that.
    Looking forward to your suggestions.
    Andrew.

I am using both PSE 13 and Lightroom 5.  When I use Lightroom as an external editor and save the photo, it shows up in PSE13 as an edited file but does not look any different.  Why doesn't it appear edited?

People who have Photoshop, but don't have Lightroom, need ACR so that they can use Raw files. Without ACR they could do nothing with those (they may also like having ACR so that they can work on other kinds of image using the same kinds of adjustments and techniques, as are used with Raw files).
People who have Lightroom, can get access to Raw files regardless whether ACR is present or not. They can use Lightroom on other kinds of image also, using the same methods. LR can pass images directly into Photoshop without passing via ACR (or else does so transparently, which amounts to substantially the same thing).
ACR does not, strictly speaking, even need to be installed for this external editing to happen. In fact, not even PS needs to be - since a different image editor can be used instead, while still retaining the Adobe Raw conversion etc.
Lightroom "subcontracts out" specialised external tasks, in this workflow, but is still your "main contractor": the image is otherwise located, viewed, managed, adjusted/presented and output entirely using LR.
So IMO we can divide image processing into:
operations that involve pixels and layers and layer masks and adjustment layers etc (of the kind done inside Photoshop)
operations that involve parametric edits (of the kind done in ACR where you are not using a Lightroom based workflow; otherwise, done inside Lightroom)
When PS is called in, that's because those tasks are impossible or unsuitable to do in Lightroom. But those tasks can't be done in ACR either - by definition, since LR and ACR have exactly the same image processing "feature set".
Lightroom is irrelevant to the Bridge + ACR + PS workflow. This workflow requires both your PS and your ACR to be current enough, to support your Raw format etc.
ACR and Bridge are irrelevant to the LR + (image editor) workflow. It is in this case, only LR which needs to be current enough to support your Raw format etc.

  • Capture vs. Content Sharpening in Lightroom and ACR

    Hi,
I have a question regarding sharpening in Lightroom and ACR. In the information I have read, many authors point out that Lightroom and ACR's detail panel is optimized to provide control over capture sharpening. In a post that I read recently by Jeff Schewe, he clarified that and said that we are really sharpening for both capture and content with the detail panel in Lightroom.
That is confusing to me because after reading Bruce Fraser's book on sharpening, capture and content sharpening were treated as two different processes. If I understood correctly capture sharpening for digital captures was based on the characteristics of the camera and the file size of the image, with larger megapixel files receiving a smaller radius. In addition, I read that the radius in content sharpening is dictated by the dominant characteristics of the subject matter being sharpened, with high frequency subject matter receiving a smaller radius and low frequency receiving a higher radius.
The reason I am confused is that it appears that capture and content sharpening for the same digital capture can at times be quite different. For example, I believe that the book suggests a radius for an 11 megapixel capture of .4. If the image content calls for a sharpening radius of 1.3, what do I do? In Lightroom/ACR I can only choose 1 radius.
In all the reading I have done regarding the proper use of Lightroom and ACR, it suggest that you should use a radius that is suited to the image content. So it appears that we are that we are being encouraged to perform content sharpening only with Lightroom and ACR. What happened to the "capture" sharpening portion of the process?
Since Lightroom and ACR are capable of recognizing the camera make and model as well as the file size, are they applying capture sharpening behind the scenes that is tailored to that specific camera and file. If not, then how are we achieving both capture and content sharpening in the same operation?
Sharpening for both capture and content in one pass would seem to conflict with some of the basic concepts elaborated on in Bruce Fraser's book. I am assuming that since Lightroom is using Photokit Sharpener routines, that they have accounted for the capture portion of the sharpening, but I don't see that stated explicitly anywhere in anything that I have read. If they have, I say kudos to everyone involved as that would be great. I'm just looking for a clearer understanding of what's happening.
If anyone can shed some light on this topic I would be very appreciative.
    Thanks,
    John Arnold

    >Since Lightroom and ACR are capable of recognizing the camera make and model as well as the file size, are they applying capture sharpening behind the scenes that is tailored to that specific camera and file. The answer is that the detail section crosses over into creative territory and is not strictly "capture sharpening," although that is what is mostly meant to do.
Following the ultimate logic of the "sharpening workflow" might make you conclude that Capture sharpening and output sharpening are purely scientific steps where you should not make ANY creative decision at all and that creative decisions are only to be made in the creative sharpening step. In the real world, there are creative decisions and decisions determined by the content matter that enter into the capture step too just like in the output step. You might like extra-crunchy prints for example, but somebody else might prefer softer prints making you approach the output sharpening with a creative intent. The sharpening workflow was probably (Jeff will know more about the history) more of an attempt to arrive at a more rational way of approaching the process and to provide a guideline. It is probably not meant to rigidly separate the workflow up in defined steps where in the 1st step you're not allowed to think or look at the image, in the second step you can go completely wild, and in the last step you have to close your eyes again. The goal was probably to make the photographer realize that the different steps have a different purpose. Not to make you turn off your creative genius or to treat the process like a black box.
My approach to this, inspired in some part by Jeff's many posts on this, is to make the image look good at 1:1 using the detail tool in Lightroom/ACR. This is inherently driven by content of course as you use visual feedback. If your image is large swaths of plain color separated by sharp transitions with little structure, you probably do not want a high setting on the detail slider as you might induce halos and you probably want to use some masking. Conversely, if you shoot brick architecture, a high detail value might look good. If you shot at high ISO, you might need a different approach again to not blow up noise. Also, portraits might need a different approach. After the 1:1 optimization, I sometimes selectively sharpen (or blur!) parts of the image (rare but can be effective - example would be people's eyes). Then for the output step I use appropriate output sharpening for the medium according to my taste. You see that this is not rigidly following the workflow, but still is in the spirit.
