PSE 8 and high res compatibility with W7

I have just upgraded from PSE 5 to 8. I am running on a laptop with W7 and 1920 x 1200 res screen. In order to make menus and text legible, the system is set at 150% in Control Panel. This seems to work fine with Office applications and other programmes. Unfortunately, although the Organiser page is ok too, the Editor and Quick Editor page menus are scaled right down. The menus and icons are so small it is difficult to navigate and wierdly the curser appears as three identical images in certain features. I have tried reducing the 150 to 125% but then the Organiser is affected and there is little improvement in Editor except that the curser shows normally. I had experienced the same problem in PSE5 but thought it was a W7 thing and that the upgrade would sort it out. Feeling poorer and no further forward. Any help would be much appretiated.

I had the same problem.
I changed the size to custom and went up to 145% and the cursors are still ok.
Someone on the forum said it is a bug and the cursors won't work correctly at 150%

Windows 8 and itunes 11 compatibility with an ipod

I have itunes11 and Windows 8. I've called Apple and I've talked to Microsoft. This was months ago. I can download itunes and run it from my laptop but am unable to sync my ipod. I get an error and it automatically reboots my computer. I was told there were known compatibility with itunes and Windows 8. This was months ago.
I know how to downgrade itunes to XP or Win 7. This is not the issue. I can download to my laptop and place, it will not sync to my ipod device (which is a fear years old), but when I did talk to support I was told that it was supported. The ipod was not the issue.. It was the incompatibility between the programs.
I see recent updates in the support community in the past month about production resolution but this still has not resolved my issue. I don't believe purchasing a new ipod is going to resolve the issue either.
If anyone has successfully developed a workaround or recently downloaded itunes11 w/ Windows 8 and can sync to an apple ipod I would love to know how you did it.

Im not sure that will solve the issue I have with itunes. I have a lenovo laptop and I think it's just an issue with Apple who has to modify the program for users of Windows 8 so that itunes can be used and to find purchased music. I found the music I purchased through itunes but it's not the full tracks. It said it allows me to download it fully so I can hear the whole track, but needs some kind of capatibility? I have no idea what the problem is. If someone has the answer knowing my computer brand and having windows 8 compatibility issues, please let me know what you suggest.

Office 2013 Home and Business License Compatability with Windows Server 2012 R2

Are there any license issues with installing Office 2013 Home and Business on Server 2012 R2 operating system?
I am having inconsistent issues installing this software on a server running this operating system. The Office software is not being acccesed by client workstations. Its a stand alone software installation for the server. Are there any
special installation procedures I must follow or software registration procedures I must follow?
Microsoft website states Office 2013 Home and Business is compatible with Server 2012 but doesnt include the an R2 version reference.

Please note only Volume Licensing editions of Office may be used on RDS host server. Since Home and Business is a Retail edition, it's not suitable/permitted if you are using RDS.

PSE 11 and PS CC issues with import/open and saving

Good afternoon,
I have had PSE 11 for several months but have hardly touched it due to two problems. When I try to import images into the organizer, if I choose any location other than the default that opens, the whole program freezes and I have to force quit to get out of it. I have been able to open files by going to File - get photos and videos - by searching....When I can get them, they load at snail speed. I've done a few projects and when I go to save, I have the same issue. This has caused me to loose several projects as again, the whole program freezes and I have to force quit.
I just signed up for the photographer's black Friday deal and downloaded PS. I am having the same issue. If I go to open a file in PS and choose anywhere other than the default location, the box closes immediately and I can't get anything to open. Thankfully, the program doesn't freeze up like PSE 11, but this is so frustrating. I have Lightroom and have issues there too. What is going on!

I am having a similar issue with photoshop CC. I am on a mac and just upgraded to maverick (
OS X 10.9 (13A603)) and since the update any time I want to open or place a file it closes the window.
Something worse happened on windows 8.1 when I upgraded that OS Illustrator and photoshop just crashed once it was open. I had to uninstall and reinstall both applications and it worked.
I tried the same thing on the mac and uninstalled photoshop, then reinstalled it but I that did not resolve the issue. I have a video of what it is doing. The two workarounds I found was to drag the images into photoshop or create a new file then go to file open which you will see in the video.
If there is a fix for this please let me know, it is very frustrating!

Creative suite 4 and 5.5 compatable with Windows 8 and Office 2013?

We have both Creative Suite 4 and a few CS5.5. One classroom will be moving to Windows 8 and Office 2013 this Summer term. Will either of these suites work or will we need to upgrade to CS6?

The only honest answer: You won't know until you try. Generally they will/ should be compatible, but you may require dealing with legacy issues like printer compatibility or thne installer not finding specific folders as well as al lthe usual - security stuff, user privileges, network stuff in shared environements. you would face some of those issues even with CS6 or CC, so it's irrelevant to get a new version until there are real hard reasons beyond these issues. They can all be resolved, it may just take some fiddling and lots of patience.

Qosmio G20 = Component Video Cable and High Definition Videos With Pinnacle

Dear Everybody
I bought my Qosmio G20-120 from Poland which came with D-video to Scart cable. This cable is only capable of transferring Video (CVBS) signals which is pretty useless because Qoismio has S-Video Output already... Which is better than simple Video Output that I can get from Scart.
According to www.toshiba-europe.com Qoismio has supposed to have Component Video output. But it comes with Scart cable instead. I am still trying to get this Component Video to D-Video cable from the distributor. If I wont succeed, does anybody know if and where I can buy this cable in Europe? Or is it possible to make a component video to D-video cable out of D-Video to Scart cable?
As last did anybody try the high definition DVB-S channels on Qoismio by using USB 2.0 DVB-S TV Card.Any opinions about Pinnacle PCTV 400e ??

Yes I do live in Europe. But who says that Component Video Cable is a standart from USA or Japan. I have been using Component Video Cables to connect my DVD Player with my video projector since 2002. Component Video Cables are wisely used in Europe. And its the ONLY analogue way of transferring HD-Video (Plus DVI and HDMI)

Where is the Component-out ???Promise is a promise. Why do they say it if they dont give it?
Instruction manual also says that : D-Video port lets you transfer 525i(480i),525p(480p),1125i(1080i) or 750p(720p) data to external devices.
How can you transfer 720p with a Scart Cable?? It is impossible.... The only way that Qosmio can transfer 1280x720 picture is a Component Video cable.(Because it has no DVI port) How much does this cable cost anyway?? But the problem is NOBODY is producing it in Europe. I am writing to Toshiba-Japan. Since they are saying that my computer has Component-out so they must get me the cable....

Time Machine and Disk Permissions + Compatibility with Snow Leopard

I have received warning from Disk Utility that I should repair permissions as several files show incorrect permissions and, more than that, my 750GB shows "769GB available".
My questions are:
1. If I use Command+R and rebuild the disk from a Time Machine backup, will permissions be reset or will the files just be copied as they are now?
2. Is there a way to verify the TM backups to check the files therein?
3. Suppose, just for the sake of an exercise, that I reload Snow Leopard; can I still use SL's Time Machine to read a Lion Time Machine backup?

Why are you repairing permissions? It's a waste of time unless you have a specific reason to do it, and the warnings don't mean anything.
To verify your Time Machine backup, proceed as below.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo tmutil compare
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
The command will take at least a few minutes to run. Eventually some lines of output will appear below what you entered.
Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.

ES4 Assembler and portfolios' folders compatibility with Acrobat 9

I have the following problem: I'm producing a PDF Portfolio with some nested file and folders through Assembler WebAPI.
The portfolio is ok and works fine if opened with Acrobat XI, but the same portfolio is bugged if opened with Acrobat 9: all the package files are shown in the root directory and clicking (or right-clicking) on them causes a navigation to the (empty) directory specified in the DDX. There is also no way to open the package files.
(PDF Portfolios created with Acrobat 9 works fine in both versions, so isn't a problem related to my installation of Acrobat 9)
How can i make it works also in Acrobat 9? I'm defining a wrong DDX or it is a known bug?
The file should be distributed to clients who use Acrobat 9 and cannot install newer version due to company policies.

I got the error msg translated:
Cannot read input data, some characters cannot be showed/printed.
I ran preflight and embedded the fonts and I'm hoping that fixes the problem. I haev no way of testing this. Does anyone know if I did the right thing or is there something else I should do?

MP3 Zen stone and zen mosaic: compatibility with Sony Microsystems

I was given a Zen Stone (basic model) almost two years ago as a present. In Christmas of 2008, I purchased a Zen Mosaic 8gb model which plays music, videos and photos. THis Christmas i received as a gift a Sony CMT HX80R micro system. This unit has the capacity to play i pod and MP3 via a USB port. Upon trying the Mosaic I received the message on the screen of the Sony saying "not supported". But when I played the Zen Stone, it loaded up perfectly and played with no problems. I am not super tech minded but surely if there was a model the Sony wouldn't recognise; surely it should have been the Stone as it's the older technology? Can anyone offer an exp[lanatiuon please? or is there some kind of patch I can put into the Mopsaic to make the Sony read it's

Printers and scanner not compatable with Mini w/Lion?

I've just had my Mini running Lion for a few days and am impressed with it (my first Mac). However I have been trying in vain to load printer drivers for my Epson R800 printer and my Epson V500 scanner. I have visited both this site and Epson's but have not had any success getting any to work. Basically I'm informed that they are not supported. Any help for a new Mac person will be greatly appreciated.

According to Epson's site both are supported in Lion.

Bowers and Wilkins P7 Compatibility with Mac Notebooks

I have a late 2008 13" Al unibody MacBook, and a mid 2011 11" Air MacBook. Are they fully compatible with Apple Store NZ listed Bowers and Wilkins P7 headphones? As these can be driven by some iPhones and all iPads, it would seem my MacBooks will have enough audio 'grunt' to adequately drive these headphones... Is this so?

Having the same issue. Any luck resolving this? I've put a troubleshooting ticket into B&W. My MM-1's headphone jack works fine and my comp's internal speakers work. Odd. Here's what I wrote them:
My MM-1 speakers have stopped producing sound. The headphone jack for the MM-1 works fine. And my comp's internal speakers work. My Sys Pref says "The selected device has no output controls." What I've done to troubleshoot the problem.
1. Unplugged and replugged all connections (power, USB @ comp and speaker, and other speaker).
2. Powered down speakers and computer. Restarted.
3. Confirmed that audio is SysPref/Sound/Output/MM-1
4. Updated firmware (V6.0.00)

VirtualBox 4.2 and 4.3 Compatibly with OS X Mavericks

Can anyone reproduce this or having the same issue and found a solution yet.
I updated to 4.3 (Same issue with 4.2)and still wasn't able to shutdown my VM or Mac afterwards
Steps to Recreate My Issue
1) Update to 4.3
2) Have at least 2 VM's (i.e. XP, and Windows 7)
3) Open both VM's
4) Try to shutdown the 1st VM you opened by clicking the red x
expected results - VM Shutsdown and icon removes from Dock
actual results - VM Shutsdown but the icon is still in the Docking station, Force Quit and Activity Monitor cant remove it the user is also unable to shutdown his Mac without doing a manual shutdown by holding the power button. After manually shutting down n bringing it back the user is back at square 1 with the host-only adapter not available.

This issue ( https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/12241 ) has been reopened and is not confined to Host Only Networks. I'm having this problem when using Bridged Adapters.
Some report that they are able to do an orderly shutdown by issuing:
sudo shutdown -h now
from Terminal.

When the next iPad comes out, (the iPad 4), will the iPad 2 be discontinued and not be compatable with future iOS versions?

I will not be buying a new iPad just because it was just discontinued.

<Opinion>Look at the iPod Touch family as a guide, that's probably the best model to look to for how this will probably go down. Probably 2 or 3 generations back will be okay if a new generation comes out, so following that logic the iPad 1 would likely stop receiving major iOS updates. But hey, nobody but Apple knows. I would suggest not worrying about it and getting what you can afford, they all become obsolete eventually.</Opinion>

Is it possible to create a script to produce a high res and low res pdf and jpeg from Indesign at the same time

Hi, I'm just wondering if there is a way to automate a long process I have to do to create assets for my job.
I have a single page InDesign 6 file which I have to output three ways:
A low res pdf without bleed or trims
A high res pdf with bleed and trims
A low res jpeg downsized to 2% of original size.
If anyone knows if this is possible I'd love to hear from you.

Automation requires creating your own IDML script for output. Scroll down on this page to the section on Scripting resources. The text is a bit confusing. It says InDesign CS5 Scripting resources, but then the paragraph for that section says the PDF files are for CS6. I haven't read through these, I just found them by searching for "indesign automation". It does say in part that is can be used for preparing files for printing, so once you figure it out, it should be a single click option to do all three steps.
You can do them now with the menus you have, assuming you also have Acrobat Pro installed. With any document open, choose File > Adobe PDF Presets, and choose either from the prebuilt defaults, or create your own in the Distiller. However, I don't see a way in the Distiller settings to choose whether or not to include bleed and marks, so I'm not really sure how you'd have them on for one and not the other. As far as JPEG output, that can be chosen under Export. You get a choice to set a resolution and JPEG quality level, but not a size, so the output will be the dimensions of the document.
