PSE 8 brush strokes randomly change to heavy line thickness

I installed PSE 8 on a trial offer and when I use my Wacom stylus, the line thickness randomly changes to a heavy line. I've cleared prefrences, and reloaded the Wacom drivers and messed with sensitivity. Any suggestions?

Hi,
PSE allows user to change various parameters by the Pen pressure of the Wacom Tablet.
While using Brush tool, You will find an arrow icon on the tool bar at the end, Opening it, you will find several parameters whicj can be controlled by Wacom tablet Pen pressure. So while you are using brush with the Pen, the pressure you apply on the Wacom, increases the brush size.
In case you need to change the Opacity of the brush, you can set it from the options bar and continue using and do Wonders.
Try it. This is really good.
Thanks,
Swarnima

• Change a heavy line to a light line

i have a heavy line that came into Pages from my brothers doc resume and it appears to be a box that I put text into which show up with grips at the corners and prints a black line from one edge of the paper to the other.
does anyone know if there is a way to LIGHTEN the thickness of this line? Right now it is too thick and I tried unbolding this box but all this did was to unbold the text that was in the box.
can anyone help with this and or get me started on where I go for insterting a line such as this or what it is called in pages?
TIA

Select the line which is probably a shape.

• Adjustment brush applies brush strokes randomly

I'm running XP & when I use the adjustment brush it slows down and then applies brush strokes in areas that I have not painted.

I have the same problem with Vista. How did you
solve it?

• Brush strokes reshape themselves to smoother lines after I draw them. Solutions?

I am currently working on a drawing that involves many jagged lines, and I was using a 3pt Pressure brush to work on the outline. However, once I draw the lines and lift my pen off the pad, the lines are reshaped into smoother forms. Alot of the detail that I am trying to accomplish is smoothed out and taken away, especially with my sharp shapes. Is there some sort of setting, or something i am missing that will stop this from happening?
The pencil tool doesnt do this, and I would probably resort to it since it keeps my lines in tact. However, it sometimes deletes my original line when i draw too close to it, or it connects the lines. In the end, I am going to merge all the lines and marks ive made into one big shape.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

AAA! thank you! i knew there had to be an easy way to get to a solution, but searching the internet for answers is easier said than done. thank you!

• Significant delay at beginning of brush strokes on Microsoft Surface Pro 3?

Using Photoshop Elements 10, it takes an abnormally long time for a brush stroke to begin registering. This is a bit difficult to explain, so here is a visual example:
Here is what happens in photoshop elements 10 when I write 'hello':
And here is what happens if I do the same in Gimp:
As you can see, it takes a relatively long time for photoshop to begin accepting a brush stroke, but otherwise renders the line in real time. This causes significant issues when trying to draw, especially as the delay tends to vary wildly.
I have adjusted every setting I can find. I had a similar issue in Windows 7 which was fixed by disabling 'Flicks' commands, but that has had no effect here. I can find no meaningful settings in Elements 10 itself aside from adjusting its memory usage, and adjusting that has been ineffectual.
All help is appreciated - I can't stand to use Gimp another day.

Hello bblackstock-
Getting the most performance for your buck is important to me as well, but sometimes you need to save a little money and compromise on your technology solutions, so I understand your decision to go with the 64GB Surface Pro 3. I am sorry to hear that the 64GB did not live up to your expectations when you found that it had the i3 processor and you were no longer able to exchange it.
Per our Return & Exchange promise here, we do allow 15 days for most returns (30 days if you are a My Best Buy Elite member and 45 days if you are an Elite Plus member). Regrettably, beyond that time frame, we are unable to offer a return or exchange.
I apologize for any disappointment that this may cause you.

• What is the quickest way to paint a straight brush stroke that is NOT on 90 or 180 degrees?

I do perspective drawing for interior designers and do the colouring in Photoshop. Think of old fashioned painting with a brush/copic marker against a ruler to get a straight line, but with varying thickness or opacity. I would like the same effect in Photoshop.
The closest that I have come is to press Shift before the brush stroke. That constrains the stroke, makes a very neat line AND allows me to vary the line/brush thickness as I paint.
Often the lines may need to be at an arbitrary angle which is NOT 90 or 180 degrees. The only way I know of for getting that brush stroke in the correct position is to make sure that each stroke is on a separate layer. Select the stroke/transform/rotate. Quite a few steps as opposed to the one it takes to draw the line in the correct position and angle with a brush/ copic marker on paper.
This becomes time consuming and difficult once you have many lines to paint and if you need to be accurate (as with perspective drawing). If you are working on a very large canvas the point of rotation can sometimes be very far from where you are working (i.e. on a vanishing point) and difficult to see without a lot of Zooming and moving around on the canvas.
To Stroke a path with the brush gives an unrealistic and even line thickness which does not look hand painted.
Any suggestions?
Has anyone ever used a ruler while drawing on a Cintiq? That may give the desired effect and be much quicker than selecting and rotating.

Thank you R_Kelly! Though it is still a bit tricky judging the angle as you rotate the page, your workaround is actually a bit quicker than having to rotate each line individually.
This allows me to see the line as it develops in place and I also don't necessarily need to create a new layer for each new brush stroke, if I work carefully. Very close to placing the ruler on the work space before drawing a line!
Thank you!

• Changing horisontal line thickness in equations

Hi,
Is there a way to change the horisontal line thickness for divisions in equations?
I tried doing it on the Reference page, thinking that "Single line" was perhaps used for the lines in divisions, but to not avail.
Thanks,
Mats

Mats, I was hoping that one of the FM math-using folks here might have an answer for you, but perhaps they're all at "summer math camp" right now <g>.

Unfortunately I've never heard of it being possible to change the line thickness -- or any other display characteristic of equations, for that matter.

If you didn't see this on the Framers list recently, Winfried Reng posted a link to a working search on a FrameUsers repository, here: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/

Sheila

• Formating Line thickness for lines in graphs with more than 6 lines.

I have a line graph with more than 6 lines on it and I'm trying to make them all 1px.
I can specify a line thickness for the first 6 lines but after that, the lines go back to the default thickness.
Is it possible to change the default line thickness for a graph or format the line thickness for the 7th line and more?

Good news! I found out how to format more than 6 lines of data and it's really simple to do!
In the bottom left hand corner of the Format Chart Data, next to the Clear All button, is a button marked ADD.
If you click this button, another row is added allowing you to format the 7th line of data.
Click again and you get a row for the 8th line and keep clicking to add more lines.
I'm making a note of it here in case it is useful to someone out there who searches on this problem in the future.

• CS6 - Brush bug - randomly draws straight lines when sketching

Hey everyone,
I noticed this bug that occurs when I use the brush tool. Whenever I'm sketching in a small region, it randomly draws a straight line, as if I never lifted my pen. It's like when you hold the shift key to make a straight line, except I'm not holding the shift key. However, this only happens if I'm drawing semi-closely and/or if I'm drawing semi-fast (not that fast though. The lines will connect even though I lifted my pen. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I updated my video card and tablet to its latest drivers but it hasn't fixed the issue.
Specs:
Windows 7 64 bit
Wacom intuos5 tablet
Nvidia GT 520 Graphics card
Photoshop CS6
Any help would be appreciated.

Allso have this from time to time.
The brush loses response and does little short straight lines here and there, it's a software glitch. I usually save my document when that happens, this usually snaps it out of it but a few times I had to wait then save again. I used to be able to just swap apps or click on layers or something but that doesn't work anymore.
XP 32bit
CS5 32bit
I had the same promlem with CS4 trial, with my old Manhattan tablet and with my new Intuo's. I think it's a bug that comes in from time to time with panel, window focus changes. Or Id get up to fetch a cup of coffee and when I come back it's like that.

• Drawing brush stroke lines w/ tapered ends at any angle

I'm trying to match the style of an illustration done by someone outside my company; all the lines taper at both the ends like an actual brush stroke, but when I used the brush tools I have to change the angle to get the tapered look - is there a trick to this? It's not efficient to have to stop and change the angle of the tool for every stroke -

After you change the angle once, choose apply all strokes.
If that is not working, have you tried using profile in the stroke palette.

• Newby question. Trying to fill a section but using fill and/or stroke only changes line colour

Hi,
Been trying to work this out for hours now so if anyone can help I will be forever thankful!
Basically, I traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the colour of the line.
I'm not sure if that makes sense or if anyone can help based on that but I can post pictures or something if that would help?
I also understand that the magic want thing might be where I've went wrong at the very start maybe?
Thanks for any help at all!

I don't know if that helps you understand at all?
For example I want to fill the inside of the square but when I'm hitting the fill and stroke buttons they're just changing the colour of the line.
I think I might just start from scratch again! Don't know where I've went wrong.

• How can I change a brush stroke to a pencil stroke after I've drawn it?

How can I change a brush stroke to a pencil stroke after I've drawn it? Is this possible?

h,
As I (mis)understand it, (in effect) just by clicking the Reduce to Basic Appearance button in the Appearance palette (and setting the desired Stroke Weight, if different from 1pt).
The Pencil Tool creates a uniform width path like the Pen Tool, producing Anchor Points like the Artbrush Tool. So when you reduce to basic appearance you will get a path corresponding/identical to the one you would create with the Pencil Tool.

• Photoshop CS5 pen pressure randomly changing

Hi Folks,
I've recently started painting again in Photoshop CS5 (haven't done so since CS3). What I'm finding is that when using either normal brushes or the new mixer brushes, the presure randomly changes. For example, If I write a "S" ten times horizontally with the same light touch and natural speed, 1-5 are fine, 6 and 7 are really heavy and a little shaky looking, then 8-10 are looking normal again. It's very random and happens quite a lot. Very annoying and distracting for doing any artwork.
I also use ZBrush, Mudbox & BodyPaint for my work and the pen presure while using these programs is totally normal without any random changes.
My specs:
Windows 7 x64, Photoshop x64, 8gb RAM, Geforce 8800 gts 512 graphics card.

This has been reported here several times. If you can get the forum seach to work, seek out threads that contain "Wacom" and "pressure".
I believe the workaround that was found to be helpful in those threads was to downgrade to slightly older Wacom drivers. The Wacom people are very helpful, and will probably steer you right if you contact them directly.

• Error when holding Shift to constrain a brush stroke.

When we hold Shift while painting with the brush or pencil tool the stroke is constrained to a 180, 90 or 45 degree angle.
This is helpful, however, ever since CS4, when we do this, a faint brush line appears to connect the end of the first stroke with the beginning of the next creating all sorts of unwanted effects. This happens regardless of where we make the next stroke.
The only way of not having this happen is to keep reselecting the brush tool (keypoard shortcut B) after each stroke. When there are many lines to draw, doing this creates unnecessary delay in workflow.
Has anyone found the same problem or perhaps a solution to this?

If you insist on working that way, try turning on the grid. When you get to the end of a brush stroke, release the mouse button, and make sure the cursor is close to the end of the last stroke before starting your next stroke. So long as you have 'snap to grid' turned on, this will prevent any overrun - if that is what is causing you problems. But much better to do what advised in #1 and realease the shift key > move to the next point, and hold down the Shift key while clicking with the mouse.
A nice quick way to set the grid to a useful spacing is to use the Image size dialogue window, and change the resolution setting with Resample unchecked. A higher resolution makes wider grid spacing.

• Hidden brush strokes "Woof"

In InDesign one-on-one Deke McClelland mentions some hidden brush strokes, I'm interested in one called "Woof" which produces a track of paw prints rather than dashes. I've tried to create this new brush stroke with no success. Is there such a thing? How do I access it?
Thanks
don

Nini , I finally got to Paws but it needs tweaking: I created a new stroke in the new Stroke window settings were:
Name Woof
Type dash
in the next box a black bar went in a continuous to the 125 mark on the ruler Length was at 1p0, pattern length 2p0, corners none Preview wt. 18.5. I clicked OK.
If I look at Stroke styles I can see Woof preceded by some tiny paws.
OKAY now how do I use it?
I'm using the Pencil tool, do I draw a line and then convert it to paws? Do I select Woof Stroke before I draw the line? If so how do I select it? I've been pressing the down arrow in a black bar located to the left of the opacity symbol, if I select Woof I see paws in place of the black bar. Next I go to the widow directly above that and change it from 0pt to 9 or 20 or whatever, then I take the pencil and draw a line, I get a line of connected dots-not paws. Somehow accidentally I managed to get a line of paws but they were in a black line not individual prints on my yellow background. How do I get paw prints that are separated by spaces and stand out as individual prints against the yellow backgriund of my book cover?
If this sounds like the ramblings of an old man, it is. I have found it is much easier to write a book than to do all of the publishing work.
Thanks for your patience, I'm looking forward to your response and maybe we can put this hread to bed.
