PSE 8 Editor freezes in Windows 7

I used to have vista and my PSE8 worked just fine. I switched to Windows 7 because there werent any compatibility issues... or so I thought. PSE 8 downloads just fine and organizer opens just fine. Editor wont open... freezes and runs my computer very slow. It shows up in the task manager under processes but i dont see the program to use it.
I need serious help, please! I've been on the phone with adobe tech support for 2 months now saying they will call back in 3 days and never do. I've done all the "solutions" on the website with no luck.
Any ideas on how to fix the issue? I've noticed a lot of others having the same problem and I wonder what they have done to fix it or if they havnt fixed it what do they do in the mean time? Is there another product I can buy? Can adobe give me a free copy of a product that does work?
Please PLease Help!!

Hi,
I would like to know whether organiser or editor crashes ?
If its organiser then there is something related to Catalog.
Try these steps :
1. Goto this location : C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\  -- (program data is hidden folder by default , you will need to unhide it)
2. Under this location you will find all the catalogs that were created by you
3. Choose your default catalog.
4. In that select and delete all the folders except Breezedata and file with extension .pse8db
5. Relauch your organiser and then check if its stil crashing.
Thanks,
Baljeet

  • PSE 10 Editor never opens...

    Hi folks,
I've used PSE since version 1 and hardly ever a problem until v 10.
It is installed in the default locations in win7 64bit. I've installed it three times so far.
I try to start the Editor from it's exe file to aviod the Unwelcome screen.
v 10 Organiser runs perfectly well.
SInce Editor sets up ever time and looks exactly right, even loading in the picture selected in Organiser for editing, it must be something at the very final stage that is being looked for that isn't found. The first mouse click every times results in Editor freezing and displaying the Adobe error message top left, 'Adobe Photoshop Editor (Not Responding).'
I can't go back to version 9 because I can't find my CD - but that isn't the point. v 9 worked correctly on this machine.
Can anyone offer hope - please.
    Thanks.
    Ian.

    Hi Ken.
    Only a single monitor.
I did check this about three months back when I had another focused attempt to resolve the problem. It was always the same: 'cross thread deadlock'. I never got further, which meant that I got nowhere!
I first installed to drive D, Proram Files (x86) and I thought that I might cure the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling onto drive C. No difference. I did install with Norton 360 turned off this last time, but still same error.
Event log: I didn't get very far before. Here's the first of the day opening from editor.exe.
The program PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe version 10.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Try making a direct desktop icon for the Editor and see if you can launch the program directly from the desktop.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Editor application:
    C: >> Program Files (x86) >> Adobe >> Photoshop Elements 11
Within the Photoshop Elements 11 folder find PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe (the application not the Adobe shortcut)
Select that file and click Next.
    Then click Finish.
You should now be able to launch by right-clicking on the new desktop icon, bypassing the welcome screen. Try choosing “Run As Administrator” That often improves stability.

  • Text size in PSE 7 Editor menues / toolbars

Hello, with my new 16.4" Laptop and 1920 x 1080 resolution I have problems in properly reading the text in PSE 7 editor menues and toolbars - they are so tiny.
Increasing Windows font size (DPI) in the Control Panel only works with "Windows-related" programmes (e. g. Windows Explorer) but it does not affect the text size in the PSE menues (it does make the 'welcome screen' which invites you to choose between Editor, Organizer etc, bigger, though, and also the drop-down menues that appear after you click on a menue item). Decreasing the resolution is not a solution, as it makes the whole display blurred...
Is there a solution at all? I'm using Windows 7, if that's relevant...

hi , well to increase the font size ,just go to properties and then on settings.
From there you can go to screen resolution and increase or decrease as per your wish.It worked on my system ,so try it out.

I followed the instructions exactly as in the article.I don’t think there is much scope for error as i did not encounter similarly named files and the described path took me exactly to the file in Program Files. I am certain I have never encountered similar problems with my laptop before. Even if I made a mistake, it would have been so easy to make that I would not recommend anyone else to try that!

  • PSE 7 Editor Crashes

I am using PSE7 on Windows 7 Pro.  Have used this in the apst no porblem.  The editor now crashes each time I try to bring it up.  I have already renamed the TWAIN file with a ~ in fromt of the name and I have used the ctl+shift+alt to reset the editor settings file.  All of these have not yeilded any results.  The only software upgrade performed since loading PSE 7 has been to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader and install the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader Software.

Concerning the PSE-12 Editor, I find that this crashes after editing 10 to 20 JPEGs of ~20 Mpixels (not tried raw files yet). I have used at least three earlier versions of the editor on the same machine and in the same circumstances and none of them ever crashed (unlike the Organizer).
The crash either leaves a trace in the Event Log, just blocks, so one needs to kill the process with the Task Manager, or says that it has a lack of memory. These are the symptoms of a classic memory leak.
After getting advice from Adobe, I switch off all start-up processes with MSCONFIG, but the Editor still crashed (after 25 files this time).
Does anyone else have this problem? I would be very surprised if I am the only one...

  • PSE 8 Editor does not open

PSE 8 editor has stopped opening. I've tried opening it from the organizer and from the welcome page. The loading-the-editor box pops up like it's going to open, but then the loading box goes away with no editor opening. I tried un-installing and reinstalling the program to no avail. The computer has Windows 7, 64-bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated... the PSE organizer portion is pretty worthless without the editor!

It sounds like you could be experiencing a conflict with a scanner driver.
Go back the Program Files (x86) >>Plug-ins>>Import/Export and delete the TWAIN driver.
Elements will work without it, but if you have scanner and want to scan directly PSE you'll need to install an up to date driver from the manufacturer's web site.
If you don’t use a scanner there’s nothing to worry about.
If that doesn’t work you may need to re-build the preferences.
You do that by holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift whilst simultaneously clicking Edit on the welcome screen.
When you see a pop-up behind the welcome screen click yes, to delete settings.
Then re-start Elements and it will re-build the preferences.

  • PSE 11 Editor won't open

Just received a new PC w/ PSE 11 pre-installed.  OS is Windows 8.
Was editing a photo in LR 4 and wanted to go into PSE 11 Editor to do more editing.  When I tried to open PSE editor, Adobe required product registration, which I did.  LR created a duplicate TIFF file and everything, and the window popped up asking if I wanted to Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments, etc., and then PSE 11 Editor opened up fine the very first time.  (However it didn't seem like some of the tools were working properly, but that's another question for another time.)
Subsequent attempts to open the PSE Editor either from Elements itself and LR4 have failed.  Editor will not open.  Why is this happening with a brand new product?

Try these solutions to see if any of these work.
If none of them works, let me know.
    Solution1:
Close Elements. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file. Click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
    Solution2:
In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
    Solution3:
In case that does not work too, you may try this.
Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.

  • PSE 11 Editor Won't Open Due to my "tampering"

Photo Elements 11 Editor won’t open. (I also have PSE 6 and Editor now won’t open in it). I have Windows XP. Editor was working fine until I was trying to get my Viveza 2 plug-in into PSE 11 (I had it in PSE6 and all was fine).  I looked all over internet and could not find answer. Went into PSE 11 Editor screen and from one of the tabs I saw a place for plug-ins—you could browse for folder/file of plug-in (or so I thought). I went to Viveza folder inside my NIK folder and clicked it. After that --- Editor no longer loads in PSE 11 or 6. I have tried resetting Preferences—no help. I don’t even know what tab I used in Editor since I cannot open it. Any thoughts? I thought about uninstalling and reinstalling but think nothing will change since PSE6 was affected too. Need to change whatever I did to the file.
    Any thoughts?? Thanks!

  • Mac app version of PSE 9 Editor

I bought the PSE 9 Editor for Mac a couple of years ago (while still in the workforce).  And, now that I am retired I am starting to use PSE 9 and using the great video tutorials available.  However, I noticed (during a recent tutorial) that the "Organizer" icon (tab) was not available above the Edit, Create, Share tabs.  I have tried everything, but I still can't find it.  Help!!!

As an user of PSE9 myself, i can testify that since the mavericks update the organizer is broken, so maybe that's why it's not bundled anymore.
I.m actually evaluating Elements 12 and the organizer work fime, even found back the "export" feature that was missing on EO9 mac version but present in the windows version.
So i think i will upgrade before then end of my trial period.

  • PSE 10 editor changing date taken in EXIF data

Hello. I have just joined the forum after recently buying PSE 10 Editor for Mac. I had no trouble at first but now after I have saved an edit I  find that the date taken has been changed to the same as the date modified & imported.
I can change it back manually through iPhotos menu but this is a bit of a nuisance when a lot of photos are involved, I don't know why it has happened but how do I reset it to give the correct date ?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it didn't help.  I lost another photo today and had to retrieve it
for the Organizer from my Windows files.  Instead of placing it next to the original photo (or in the same area), it placed it in a file called Adobe/Photoshop.com.  I made sure again that the line you referred to isn't checked.  In addition, when the photo doesn't get lost, the Exif date for the photo does get lost and the photo is dated today.  These two problems seem to be connected, although I can never predict which one will occur.  Anybody have more ideas?  Could it be a Windows 7 issue rather than a Photoshop issue?

  • Issue with PSE 9 Editor

Running PSE 9 on a new iMAc with 8 Gig memory, 1 TB hard drive.  When trying to save an edited file, the Editor consistently becomes unresponsive when I try to close the saved file requiring that I force Editor to close.  Not only with not Editor close the saved file but the Editor cannot be closed normally.

I appreciate the help, I found out how to change paper type and it seems to work great.  The remaining question, when I've finished editing an image and attempt to "Save" or "Save As" the system shows a box "Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 quit unexpectedly".  If I go to "Reopen" it reopens the PSE at the organizer level and hasn't saved the image.  Also at this level, "Save" is grayed out and unavailable.  I sure appreciate someone that seems to know a lot more than the "Techs" at Adobe.Don

The second thing, opening the print dialog box does not open the same one as Windows, and allows no selection of paper type.
That is just a difference between macs and windows. On a mac, you choose the paper and print quality in the OS X system print window that opens after you click the Print button in the PSE window:
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/64219/ScreenSnapz.jpg
If you only have the little stub window, click the triangle to the right of the printer's name to expand the dialog box to see all the menus.

  • Elements 13 editor freezes constantly

Upgraded from Elements 8 to Elements 13 last week.  Elements Editor freezes after about 8 images now. Organizer is fine.  I have Windows 7, 64 bit.  I am scanning slides using Epson V500 into a file outside of Elements (no Twain any more).  I open 6-20 images in Editor after scanning.  I rotate, straighten, crop all images.  When this is done for all images, I add file info & save.  After anywhere from 4-40 images have been done, I get the checkerboard so I can't see the image in Editor.  I can see the image in the Photo Bin.  When I click on File Info, image appears, but I can't zoom, or anything else.  I can add the file info & save (thank you!), but when I'm done, I have to close down Editor with the Task Manager, program has stopped responding.  I also close Organizer, but it's working fine & I close it normally.  This was happening after about 40 images, 2 days ago after about 20 images, today after about 4 images.
I have Editor, Organizer, Scanner & AOL open.  I use Organizer & AOL to verify file info.  I have over 22,000 images done like this in Elements 8 (scanned directly into Photoshop at that time), but Organizer started crashing.  So I updated to newer version.  I have several thousand images left to scan, so this is going to take forever if I have to close & reload Elements after every 6 images.  Help!

    Thanks, Brian.
Epson doesn't have WIA support.  I scan into a separate folder, then open them in the Editor.  I scan anywhere from 6-20 images at a time.  I was able to do 20 at a time, twice (so total of 40) before the Editor froze.  Now, just 6 images freezes the Editor.  (Editor in version 8 I could do 30 or more at a time, never had a problem)
My process is to scan images; open all images in editor; rotate (as necessary), straighten, crop all images; for each image add file info then save, then close that image.  At this point, I've been able to save 3-4 images, close them, before the image freezes.  The weird thing (I'm very grateful for this however), is that when I click on file info, I can see the image (not do anything to it), add the file info, save & close.  Next image is the checkerboard also, but again, clicking on file info lets me add info, save & close.  Images seem fine in the organizer, info is there, and after I reload editor, everything with the saved image seems fine.  At least I'm not losing all my rotate, straighten & crop work.
I'm currently doing slides, so scanning at 1200 dpi (larger pics are at scanned at 600), saving as PDF.
I have 8.00 GB RAM.  Scratch disc is default (c), free space is 807.60 GB.  Available RAM is 7102 MB, lets Photoshop use 4971 MB.
Thanks very much for your help.  I do appreciate it.  I have over 6,000 more images to scan, so this will be very time-consuming if I can't get a resolution.

  • PSe 12, Editor always crashes??

    Hi!
    I bought PSe 12 within 6 months.
I first tried to install it on my labtop who runs Vista Sp2. Every time the installation process seems normal (I enter my serial number, et in the end Im told that installation succeeded)
But when I try to open Editor, a window apears with no error message, just "quit".
    Organiser opens normally...
For a complete information I temporarly could install PSe12 on my pro labtop (who runs win.xp sp3(!!)) and everything is all right!
Why can't It normally runs at all on Vista?
    What have I to do?
    Please HEEEEEEELP!!!
    Thank you for answering
    TB

    Try this:
    1) Close PSE12 completely
    2) Launch your Windows Explorer/File Manager
    3) Go to: <C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\12.0\Editor>
Username == Your Windows profile name  such as: maelleyannis or whatever.
    4) find a file called " Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Prefs.psp "   and rename it to: "Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Prefs.old "
    5) Launch your PSE12 and see if it works now.
Good luck and please post back.
