  • PSE 10 organizer crash

Recently I transferred my 18.000+ PSE 10 catalog to another hard drive. Everything went well but ....
After importing the first batch of new photo's the organizer suddenly crashed. This never happened before.
For the last 10 days I have been searching for a solution with no result. Among other options I have removed the Thumb.5.cache file, and removed the psa.prf and status.dat files. Concerning the first option, removing the Thumb.5.cache file, it seemed to work, but after rebuilding the cache file the organizer crashed again.
I am getting kind of desperate, is there anybody out there who has any idea's?
    Thank you in advance,
    Laurens Swarte
    the Netherlands.

The solution is in the above.
Should Adobe read this, they should take note that a virtualized environment does not provide a decent fidelity emulation of multi-core CPU systems.  The ONLY way to test the reliability of an application is on REAL hardware.

  • Can anyone help with a persistent crash in PSE Organizer?

Brand new Dell Inspiron , Windows 7 Pro w/ Office 2013. All latest updates applied.  Installed PSE 13 successfully, created first catalog successfully. Imported media and... crash.  I have tried all the troubleshooting possibilities at Elements Organizer crashes at launch including a full reinstall but nothing has resolved the issue. Well, except creating a blank new catalog with no media! But that's not much use to me.  I'm guessing there is a file being imported somewhere in my folders which is contributing to the crash but I'm unimpressed that PSE 13 is not robust enough to cope with this.
    Any ideas?

Did you reset the preferences file as well?  If not try this:
Close PSe and then do this:
Navigate to the Elements Organizer settings folder:
    >> Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\[Version]\Organizer\
    >> Win Vista/7/8: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\[Version]\Organizer\
    >> Macintosh OS: //Users/[User Name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Elements Organizer/[Version]/Organizer/
    Rename psa.prf to psa.old.
    Retry launching Elements Organizer
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
    I have a same problem.
    OS- Mac Os 10.9.5
I recently purchased PSE13, It worked for some day and suddenly started crashing.  I uninstalled, restarted mac and reinstalled PSE but the problem continued.
I followed  steps given in this forum
-Go to your username>library>preferences and delete
    - com.adobe.Elements Organizer.13.0.plist
    - then go to Saved Application States (at the same level as preferences) and delete.
    Deleted file

  • PSE Organizer 12 crashes soon after opening

When I open Organizer directly from the desktopn, it asks if I want to back up my catalog.  I decline.  A few seconds later 'Elements 12 organizer has stopped working'.
I recently upgraded my installation from PSE 11 to PSE 12.  I run Windows 8 on an i3 Gen2.  My catalog has ~ 30K photos stretching back 12 years.  The catalog also contains video.  I was having a similar issue with 11.  I created a new catalog, thinking that the catalog file may have become corrupted.  That solved the problem for a couple of weeks, but the issue has now returned.  I want to like this product as it's easy to use, but the constant crashes have to go!
What can I do to help solve this issue?

pse 12 organizer crashing after opening,HELP

    Hi deepsea285,
You can try to Update the video card driver.
Many video card manufacturers frequently update their software drivers. If you haven't recently updated the video card driver,
    If still issue Persists,
    1. Re-create the Elements Organizer preferences file.
Navigate to the Elements Organizer settings folder:
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\[Version]\Organizer\
    Win Vista/7/8: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\[Version]\Organizer\
    Macintosh OS: //Users/[User Name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Elements Organizer/[Version]/Organizer/
NOTE: Some of the folders in these paths could be hidden. To reveal them, see:
Show hidden files, folders, filename extensions | Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7
Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion
       2. Rename psa.prf to psa.old.
       3. Retry launching Elements Organizer

  • Elements 8 Organizer crashes when opening from Editor

    Hi,
on my new OS Win7, 64-bit Elements Orgenizer (EO) shuts down with an error message after the following actions:
    Open EO
Select a foto and open it in Elemtns Foto Editor for editing
Return to the Organizer before or after any modifications to the foto via the Organizer-Icon in the right corner of the menu bar of the Editor
After a few milliseconds the Organizer crashes and a big white box appears telling that Organizer was shut down because of an error and asking wether an error report should be sent to Adobe.
This situation newer showed up on my old Vista (32-bit) system, where I had the same version of Elemnts 8 installed. I already sent several error reports to Adobe - no response yet. Running the program in XP (Service Pack 2) or Vista (Service Pack 2) compatability mode didn't fix the problem. I think Elements 8 has a problem when running on a 64-bit system.
Are there any suggestions or hints on how to avoid this crash or how to proceed?
    Thank's in advance
    Helmut

Unfortunately, there are many reasons why the PSE Organizer might crash, and often it is hard to diagnose quickly the reason for the crash:

To help others, please let us know if any of those steps solve your problem.

  • Full screen view in PSE 10 crashes under both W7 32 and W7 64

    Hello
I am testing PSE 10 (I have PSE 6) and have installed PSE 10 under both WIndows 7 64 bit and WIndows 7 32 bit.  Both installations are fully updated.  The hardware is the same for all three of my regular XP (PSE 6) and these PSE 10 installs.  The catalogs and images are on a separate large drive (one directory set for PSE 10, one directory set for PSE 6).
I have found that PSE 10 crashes after a period of time when showing images in full screen mode (the slide show mode).  It is hard to say how long it will take, but somwhere around after diplaying 100-200 images PSE 10 crashes.  Worst case was after about the fourth (it might even have been the second).  Sound is 'none', captions are disabled, update rate is 2 seconds.
I have put PSE 6 on the W7 32 bit install and it runs perfectly.  (I am only using the PSE 10 organizer, I haven't tried the editor in any dpeth as yet).  PSE 6 ran for hours in slide show mode with not a hitch.
I have rebuilt and optimized the catalog (but the PSE 10 Organizer will run without trouble for hours if I am not in full screen slide show mode), so I don't think the catalog is damaged.
I have switched off all those background features (from the preferences).  I have run in XP compatibility mode.
This is a fresh W7 install and has no problems reported in it (AV etc).  There are no disk errors for example.  The PC has 8GB RAM (~3.6 available under W7 32 bit).  There is a lot of free space on both the C: drive and the data drive (100s of GB).
The Microsoft support for the crash is 'no support available' from the event viewer (or the W7 system health report accessed from the control panel).
Google search on the crash shows no useful light either, basically the Organizer just crashes.
Neither Adobe's search or a Google search on the forum seem to find a suitable similar experience.
All images are jpegs and are roughly the same size, very approximatly 4MB each.
Any other suggestions I can try?

    I’ve found a work-round.
This is embarrassing (for Adobe), as the work-round is to set the CPU affinity to single cpu mode. With that PSE 10 has been running in slide show mode for 3 hours now.  Looking good!
On a temporary basis, from the task manager, show the ‘processes’ tab, right click on the PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe *32 process, choose ‘Set Affinity …’ unselect ‘All’ and select (check) any one CPU.  (Under W7 32 bit I guess you won’t get the *32)
For a more permanent fix, using the start command with the affinity option is needed.  This is not compatible with the PSE 10 launcher though, if you use the launcher you will need to set the affinity as shown above.
To use the start command, from a command prompt type start /? for the syntax..
Try a google search of  “how to set the processor affinity” for further advice.
Now, should Adobe be reading this thread I have some advice for them:
“It is NOT POSSIBLE to conduct a reliability test of a program using a virtualized environment”.
I made the error of assuming that after the PSE 6 fiasco in a multi-cpu environment Adobe would not make the same mistake again.  Well, they have.  Perhaps this time they will conduct a root cause analysis of what they are doing wrong with their test plans and FIX IT, because I object to doing their testing for them, again.

  • PSE 11 Crashing

I get this error message every time I startup the Editor. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software. The same problem exits. I have tried the Control+alt+Shift when the Editor is starting up and that does not help either.
I am running this on a Windows 7 machine. I am trying to launch the Editor from the welcome screen.  The editor comes up and I can see the workspace but then the error message comes up. I get the same error message when I try to launch the Editor from the Organizer.
The error message states: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if the solution is available"
I have LR 4 loaded on my machine and do most of my editing there. I tried to open the Editor to create a blank  canvas and got this error message. I also get the error message when trying to open a photo in the editor directly from lightroom.
When I attempt to run updates for PSE 11 I get the following error message: "The update server is not responding. The server might be offline temporarily, or hte internet or firewall settings may be incorrect. Please try again later. Error Code: u41m1c212
I have tried the following to no avail:
Try making a direct shortcut for the Organizer and Editor. You can then launch the programs directly from the desktop bypassing the welcome screen. This is generally better as the welcome screen leaves background processes running.
On Windows, Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish
To launch, try right-clicking on the new desktop icons and choose “Run As Administrator” which often improves stability.
Then make a direct shortcut for the Editor in a similar manner.
On Windows, Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
    "C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish
N.B. navigate to Program Files on 32 bit systems.
    What should I try next?

First tell us how are you launching PSE Organizer?  Is it by clicking on the icon on your desktop and then you get a welcome screen similar to this one?
If this is the way you do then BEFORE clicking on the Organizer icon press CTRL+ALT+Shift  (this is called three finger salute in PSE language !!!!!) and clicking on the icon (you do this all together - clicking and 3 finger salute).  Then you will get another popup such as this one:
Click on Yes button and then see if it loads without any crashes.

  • PSE 11 crashes when I attempt to add a new catalog

PSE 11 crashes when I attempt to add a new catalog to those that already exist. No programs are running that might conflict with Organizer, and I can run other functions such as downloading photos from my camera. As soon as I attempt to add a new sub-catalog to an existing major catalog, the program crashes. I'm using Windows 7, and have tried various compatibilities, but none solves the problem. Any ideas?

How do you attempt to 'add a new catalog' or a new 'sub-catalog' ?
There are no such things as 'sub-catalogs' or catalogs included in catalog.
Catalogs are totally independent storing systems, they ignore what is managed in other catalogs. That's why it is recommended to have only one catalog, unless you have a good reason to create several ones because they are totally independent by nature (home vs professional for instance).
You can create several levels of albums, of tags categories, but not with catalogs.

  • PSE Organizer quitting

My PSE organizer keeps quitting unexpectedly, I am also loosing images during editing process. I am using PSE 13 on a Mac with most recent operating system. I have been through all trouble shooting sugestions I have been given except resetting preferences.  It was suggested that I use finder to browse for and  rename a preference file   ~/Library/Applications Support/Elements Organizer /<version> / Organizer.   Finder is not recognizing this file name and all im getting is " file not found"  Getting very frustrated with this issue and Adobe posture with support for PSE. Would really appreciate more advise.

  • Elements 10 organizer crashing

I have recently upgraded to Elements 10 and the organizer is exhibiting some strange behaviors.
    1.  It seems to crash A LOT. (You know "Photoshop Element Organizer has stopped working - checking for a solution to the problem")   It has crashed several times when I tried to create new catagories but it also just seems to crash randomly.
    2.  Frequently the pictures in the organizer appear fuzzy if I push up the viewing size.  This never happened with the previous verisions I used -- Pictures were always crystal clear.  I have gone to the source files and they are fine.
I am running PSE 10 on a brand new HP quad core computer running windows 7.  My photos are stored on an external drive because I have approximately 50,000 photos.
If anyone has had similar experiences or has a suggestion I would be very grateful

Howard What you state supports my contention. OE and PRE are not compliant with Aero, and show these problems. PSE is compliant (partially) and it seems to work okay. Take care and stay tuned. John H.

Ok, this time I really mean it -- I give up on Organizer. It simply isn't ready for prime time.  I'm no technologist so I can't relate to APIs, GUIs, CODECs, etc but I can relate to "works" or "don't work" and this program does not work.  Occasionally working for short periods of time does not qualify as "works". As I mentioned above, it looked like EO was ignoring my folder selection and importing from my mirrored image.  Well, it turns out that it was importing from the correct folder -- at least as long as it would run it was -- but reported location incorrectly in the properties box.  I disabled my backup (X:) drive and properties reported that the file was on the "C:" drive which is correct.  While leaving the properties box up I simply enabled the mirrored drive and, wa la,the properties box changed and started reporting that the file was on the "X:" drive. Because of all the Exception code 5 entries that were reporting problems with codecs and dlls I had already started uninstalling things and reducing the types of media files that I was trying to organize.  Then it occurred to me that was nuts.  I already have a couple of organizers in Windows Live Photo Gallery and Google Picasso 3 that actually do work.  The hope of visual search simply isn't enough to overcome "don't work". I'll keep using PSE10 - I like it -- but I'll skip this poor excuse for an organizer.  Maybe down the road when the Adobe folks figure out how to make an application like this work I'll give it another shot. Adios my friend, good luck, and thanks for the help I was offered and given.

  • PSE 11 crashes using 'Mark Face'

I am using PSE 11 on Win 7 x64.  The catalog is newly repaired and optimized.  Using the 'Mark Face' feature in the organizer causes PSE to crash immediately after clicking the green check mark to accept the entered tag.  I have used the 'Mark Face' tagging feature before without problems.  What possible root cause is there and how can I repair it?  Thank you for positive feedback.

I found the problem NOT to be related to the catalog at all.  I store all my images on network-attached storage device.  In order to access them the same way from two systems, I have stored the catalog also on the network.  I have PSE11 loaded on both systems.  One is used as an media entertainment system with our home theater and we use it to view photos and videos only.  The other is used to manage the photo and video library, edit images and files and so on.
This setup has worked fine since the I installed PSE11.  Then I performed a full backup with PSE11 for the first time and encountered the crash problem.  It occurs when I manually tag people in images using the 'Mark Face' feature.  It does not, however, crash when the Organizer adds the virtual people tagging frame showing "Who is this?".  I can enter the tag name just fine without any problems.
In talking to support, I found that "BreezeDB.dll" is used for the manual tagging process while another module is used when the Organizer creates the virtual frame.  I was informed that "BreezeDB.dll" requires certain network access rights in order to function correctly.  It was hinted that PSE does not work well on the network and some unpredictable behavior could occur.  Why the other module does not exhibit the same issue was not explained.  Also, the module "BreezeDB.dll" enjoys maximum access rights on the network.  There was also no explanation given why the installation configuration worked without a hitch prior the the backup.
I moved the catalog to a location on the local system and the feature works without problems.  Although that is operationally satisfactory, it does not allow me to view photos in my home theater using PSE11.  I acknowledge the problem to be with the module "BreezeDB.dll".  But I am not convinced it is caused by rights issues.  Unfortunately, Adobe has a very poor track record with making its application functional and stable for network operation.
I took issue with the quality of initial support provided.  Adobe's first response to almost all problems seems to always conclude a "Corrupt catalog/database".  The resulting recommend course of action is the creation of a new catalog and re-importing of all images.  It simply astounds me that this is considered acceptable provided that some users have thousands of images in their catalog with tag, album, keyword, version stacks and other information not written to file.  None of the users have created such catalogs overnight, most of them have developed over years.
I wish Adobe would perhaps forego some "sexy & new" features and instead aspire to a trully stable platform that is universally functional across modern installation configurations.  They must have noticed the explosion of home network installations (wired & WiFi) in the last 10 years.  Overall I like the product (with all its little quirks) and the company.  But I am growing increasinly concerned with every release that the effort I am putting in managing my media (and its growth) is not protected.  I don't think Adobe is rewarding my decade-long loyalty to the product (they know who I am and that I have registered a new product every year).  I don't believe Adobe has my back.

  • Elements 9 organizer crash

my elements 9 organizer crashed with mac os.
    what can I do?

You don't need to retrieve them because they're not "in" the organizer. The photos are wherever you put them (or if you imported from iphoto wherever you told PSE to put the copies it made), and your catalog is usually in your username>library>application support>adobe>Elements Organizer>catalogs, unless you deliberately put it someplace else, in which case it's where you put it.

  • PSE10 Organizer crashes when using the "find a missing person" button

I have been using PSE10 for about six months and have about 10500 images in the catalog, mostly digital but also some scanned slides I have been gradually adding.  All images have been added using the "find files" button.  I have been making use of tagging by using the people recognition routine and have reached the point where PSE10 says all people have been found.  Since then I have gone through about 1000 individual images using the "find a missing person" button with good success  until recently.  Now when I try to save the tag after using the button Organizer crashes with the message "Elements 10 Organizer has stopped working.  A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and will notify you if a solution is available".  I have tried optimizing and repairing the catalog without sucess.  I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling PSE10, also without success.  The catalog is in a custom location but has been since shortly after I started using PSE10 and well before this problem started.  With the amount of time and effort spent doing this tagging I would not like to have to start over with a new catalog if a solution can be found.  My computer is Vista 64-bit with 8GB memory.  This problem is driving me nuts!! • Can anyone demystify the PSE Organizer catalog backup options?

I need to backup my catalog--preferably just my catalog, not all my pictures (the picture files themselves are already backed up). More accurately, I would like my automated online backup service (Carbonite) to back up my PSE Organizer catalog for me, just as it has already backed up my pictures. But the catalog is in some caddywompus location that Carbonite doesn't back up by default. I think I can manually override Carbonite's default settings and tell it to back that location up anyway, if I only knew where and what files to look for.
If I click on Help > System Info..., PSE tells me my catalog is located in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\clayscatalog. It doesn't go all the way to the file level, just down to that last folder, which shares the name of my catalog. But I have no idea which file inside of that folder is my catalog, or what to backup. Inside that folder called clayscatalog, there are the following items:
    BreezeData(folder)
    CAXMPFiles(folder)
    syncdb(folder)
    backupCt.dat
    catalog.pse9db
    collstatus.dat
    face.thumb.9.cache
    itemData.mk4
    rmf.3.cache
    tagstatus.dat
    thumb.5.cache
    watch.2.cache
Which of these files/folders should I be targeting for backup, all of them? And which would I browse to find in order to restore my catalog if my computer ever crashed and I needed to do a restore? Assuming all my photos are backed up and able to be restored to the same folder hierarchy, I assume one of these files/folders is going to have that information and be able to restore everything easily, preserving all my photo ratings, captions, tags, etc., right?
It would seem to make sense for the PSE to offer the option when you choose Backup from the file menu to back up all your catalog data only, as opposed to only having the option to backup everything, including all the picture files. Because I'm sure many people, like me, already have their picture files backed up and don't have need for that. Any guidance on this would be much appreciated.
    Clay

    First, short answer : the catalog consists in the whole folder you found. All those files are used in the organizer, but the .cache files which may have a big size will be regenerated by the organizer if they are deleted. The problem is this operation may be very long, so you will be better if you save everything;
If you use the backup and restore feature in the Organizer, you'll only have only to tell the restore process where your backup (of everything, files and folders) is located.
