PSE 8 Printing Problems - Slow

I installed PSE 8 on my wife's new Dell laptop. It runs 64 bit Windows 7 and has 4GB of memory and plenty of disk space. It prints to a network connected Epson R2400 using the Epson 64 bit printer driver. All other programs on the laptop (Office, IE, etc) print quickly and have had no problems. I have one other network printer; a Brother B/W Laser.
She is connected to a 100Mbs network by cable (not wireless). It is plenty fast enough to handle the printer.
When she accesses the create tab in either organizer or the editor, it takes a long time to open. Then every time she tries to adjust a setting it takes forever to process (only a slight exaggeration). Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, one contributing factor could be that the program refuses to allow me to choose anything other than 720 dpi for a print resolution. She prints to Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Matte paper using the Epson profiles. Is there a way to override the 720 DPI setting. 720 is the only option in the drop-down menu. I know the 720 DPI setting is not an issue from the Epson Driver. I can select any resolution I want from within Lightroom (which is what I run).
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I just found this thread.  I have another solution.
I recently upgraded my router to a D-link DIR-655.  When I connected to the new router I noticed that Elements loaded very slowly.  It was also very slow to load files.
I read this thread and deleted the network printer I was using that was connected to my desk top computer.  That did solve the problem but now I couldn't print anything.
I kept searching and found a thread elsewhere that mentioned that turning off the "Advance DNS" in the router setup would put a stop to that problem.  I went to my router setup utility and could not even find that option.  Turns out that my new router's firmware was very out of date.  Once I updated the firmware, not only did I have that option, but it installed unchecked.
This solved my problem.  I can now leave that printer installed and set as the default with no problems.
Also other programs were affected by the router settings.  Microsoft Word 2007 was acting the exact same way as Elements.
I hope this thread provides a solution to someone.  I sure spent a lot of time figuring it out for myself.

  • PSE 8 printing problem with HP 8750 Printer

When trying to print oversized (10 x 11) images in PSE 8 with my HP 8750 printer the printed image looks like a postage stamp.  I've done everything the same as I did with PSE7 and the same printer with no problem.  What could the solution to this?  It's quite frustrating, not to mention the ruined 12x12 paper, which is a bit expensive.  I upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit a few months ago and had no problems installing the printer or PSE 8.  Everything has been working smoothly up to this point.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks for any help that you can offer.

    Hi:
What I should have said is that the image "is the size of" a postage stamp...about 1 inch x 1 inch.
I'm still wrestling with this.  I finally got a page to print out correctly, now the 2nd page is giving me fits, and I though I wrote down all the settings, but apparently I must have missed one.

  • Windows 7 & PSE 8 printing problem

I have Windows 7 and just installed PSE 8. When I go to print in editor (select printer is correct)...and hit print.... The printer changes to wanting to send a fax.  None of my other programs have a problem printing including CS5. I can print from the organizer.   This is a new computer and printer/fax machine. I have spent hours trying different things to no avail. I have had several versions of PSE and always was able to print from the editor.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

I had exactly the same problem with the same configuration; WIN7 (64 bit) and PSE 8.  After reading that deleting the FAX driver worked for you, I went to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.  My printer/fax shows up as two separate devices: HP Photosmart Prem-Web C309n-s, and HP Photosmart Prem-Web C309n-s fax.  I renamed the fax entry only, by inserting my initials at the front of the device name (before HP) ... et Voila!, PSE 8 can now find and print to the printer device rather than the fax device.  This should allow you to select and use the fax device when desired, by any program.
To rename the device, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Highlight the fax entry > Select the Toolbar's File entry > Select Printer properties > Select General Tab.  You may rename the device name here, whereas the regular properties displays don't let you rename.
Thanks for asking the question, and posting your own resolution.  I am sure that we are not alone with this issue.

  • PSE 9 printing problem with Epson printer

    hello there,
I am using PSE 9  with Windows XP and Epson 3880 printer. I have re-installed all programs/drivers a couple of times. PSE9 Printer dialogue will not let me print choosing "Let Photoshop Manage Colour".  It will only let me print with "Let Printer Manage Colour".  I am using Epson papers.
When I select "Let Photoshop Manage Colour", a box appears saying "ICC profile no longer available" and it won't let me print.  Is this a PSE 9 problem or an Epson problem?
    thanks !!!

Well, I actually found the answer. I spoke to an Epson Rep!
I used to have the Epson 2200 printer, then the Epson 3800, and now I use the 3880 printer on Windows XP and Windows 7 on my laptop.
When you uninstall the other 2 printers, the color profiles are still in your program files and can become corrupted.
This is why, in PSE 9, when I checked the box Let Photoshop Elements Manage Colour, it woildn`t print and instead there was the pop-up box ``ICC profile no longer available`` because it was trying to access the old paper profiles and not the ones that came with the 3880. I use Epson papers, by the way.
The solution was to go into C-Drive, Program Files, System 32, spool, drivers, colour, and this opens to the ICC profiles used by the printer. Then I deleted the old paper profiles associated with my former printers.
    And it worked !!

  • PSE 7 Printing Problem

Does anyone know why I get a magenta cast across the top 1-1/2" of a photo printout using Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and PhotoShop Elements 7?  Tried cleaning/aligning printhead without success. Epson says I should turn off the printer's color management and let the printer manage the colors and NEVER to use Print Preview.  This doesn't help either.  It seems to get better after printing 4-5 sheets, but I sure waste a lot of expensive photo paper.  Would appreciate any advice.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I can almost definitely tie the problem to the printer because the "pink cast" happens with other software.  What I don't know is what PSE settings are recommended for printing good PHOTOS ... allow PSE to control the printing or allow the printer the control?  If I set it to allow PSE to control, directly under that option there is a question: "Did you remember to enable color management in the printer preferences dialog?"  Okay, then what do I set it to?  Color Controls, Photo Enhance, or ICM?
If I set it to Color Controls, I get a choice of Epson Standard, Epson Vivid, or Adobe RGB.  If I set it to Photo Enhance, I get the Auto Correct for "Tone" which could be changed to Sepia, grayscale, etc.  If I set it to ICM (which stands for what?), I get choices for Driver ICM (Basic), Input Profile (sRGB...), Intent (Perceptual), Printer Profile (Epson Standard).  The choices under each category come up as what I have in parenthesis, but there are more.
What I really want to know is (if you know) what the Adobe PSE recommendations are when they ask the question: "Did you remember to enable color management?"
I appreciate all your help, hatstead, and if you could answer the question above, it would be very helpful.  But I realize the underlying problem is with the printer.  Maybe it needs a good professional cleaning.

  • PSE 8 Printer Problem

I purchased PSE 8 some time ago and I am finally beginning to make use of it on a PC running Windows 7 (64 bit). However, it seems to have a problem with one of  my printers.
First, for some reason, it is choosing my (B&W only) HP LaserJet P1505 as the default printer. Second, when I attempt to select my color HP OfficeJet 6500 E709n Series printer, I receive the following message (although the OfficeJet printer is then shown to be selected):
Could not complete your request because an error occurred while printing.
With the OfficeJet printer selected, clicking on the "print" button produces the following message:
Could not complete your request because of a program error.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Devices and Printers
Is there a green checkmark next to your color printer? This would indicate that it is the default printer.
Next, open a picture file in full Editor, go to File>print, and the default printer should be selected under #1

  • PSE 9 prints blank page

PSE 9.0.3 for Mac has started printing blank pages only. I go thru all the proper print dialogs, hit print, I hear my Epson R1900 going thru its full print cycle, but only a blank page comes out. I can also see a blank page if I view the result in Preview. When I take the same picture and print it using PSE 8, it works just fine (I'm glad I kept the old version). I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, have done all the recent software updates, uploaded the latest Adobe drivers, restarted, zapped the PRAM and repaired permissions. Nothing seems to help the PSE 9 printing problem. Does anybody have any idea what is going on?

    Hi Barbara,
No, I’m not sure about that. I don’t know if my Epson R1900 is using the driver supplied by Adobe or the one supplied Apple. I’ve downloaded the latest driver from Epson, and Apple software update says I’m completely up to date. When I check my driver setting in System Preferences/Print&FAX dialog box, I see the printer driver listed as 8.61. I’ve Googled what the most current driver is supposed to be, but can’t find an answer. Anyway, things are working for the moment. By the way, you were alot more helpful than Adobe phone support. After waiting a half an hour, they lost the call during transfer from computer voice to human.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Downloaded latest Reader for Mac and have had wireless printer problems.  Either can not printer or it is extremely slow.

I downloaded the latest Adobe Reader for my Mach and I have a wireless Canon Printer.  I have not had any problems with my printer until now.  It will either not print or print really slow.  Can not print any pdf files at all.  Do I need to uninstall it or is there a fix?

Uninstall Reader. Is your printing back to normal? What version of Reader did you install under what OS?

  • My "fix" to print problems in LR (using MS XP)

Having had the same problems printing from LR as many others are complaining about, I thought that I might give my 2 cents to what I did to solve (?) the problem. I have to run with current setting in a while to be convinced that it is not just an intermittent fix though ;-)
My problem when printing from LR was that the print came out much too Cyan-Green and somewhat dark when color management where handled by LR. When the same photo was exported to PS Elements (PSE) in Tiff with the Pro-photo color profile embedded, adjustments from LR, and printed using the same driver setting and color management, the print came out fine.
I must mention that I have had fine printout in previous LR versions but I'm not sure when the problem started. But at least from LR version 1.3, 1.3.1 I have had problems printing a proper print.
As I'm not 100% sure what caused the fix, I don't want to leave much info un-documented, so I start by describing my system etc.:
    - Athlon 64 3500+ with 2 GB RAM
    - Lacie 119 LCD monitor (calibrated with a ColorVision Spyder 2)
    - Epson Stylus Photo 890 printer; an old (6-7 years) 6 color dye-sub printer, but it can still produce very good prints. (It is BTW, the A4 printer version of Epson 1290).
    - Microsoft XP service pack 2
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.3.1.
    - Adobe Photoshop Elements 5
    - Latest Epson 890 printer drivers ver. 5.21/P (from 2004)
    - ICC profiles for various Epson printer paper
    - Paper used: Ilford Printasia Photo Glossy Paper (but I have tried Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper as well with same results)
    I used following setting:
    - In printer driver: "No color management" was selected
    - LR and PSE color management; printer profile: Epson Stylus Photo 890 Premium Glossy Photo Paper, Rendering Intent: Perceptual
    . LR Print sharpening: High
    - LR Print resolution: 360ppi
When the photo was opened in PSE and I had printed a small print with above mentioned printer driver/color management settings. The print looked good, but with a little magenta color cast, so I thought that if I used a different printer profile this might help (I have no ICC profile for the Ilford paper). So I chose the "Epson Stylus Photo 890 Photo Paper" instead and printed again, and this time the photo looked as it did on my calibrated monitor. I have to admit I was a bit delighted even though it was from printed from PSE and not from LR, but seeing that color management worked in other applications was a relief.
In PSE, I also I tried changing to a different Rendering Intent before changing printer profile, but with no success.
Another thing that helped further was to change Media Type in printer driver from "Premium Glossy Photo Paper" to "Photo Paper".
After the print success in PSE I went back to LR and changed the Printer Profile to "Epson Stylus Photo 890 Photo Paper" (still with "No color management" and "Photo Paper" selected in printer driver) and printed the photo again. Now the photo looked as good as it did in PSE (!!!???).
Now I have made a few printer preset in LR for various print sizes, and the prints look fantastic. Every time! Do I have to mention that I am a happy guy ? :-)
BTW, remember that a printer preset also saves the printer driver settings. Forgetting this can easily cause some unexpected results.
The only thing is that, I still do not know what fixed the problem, and I am a bit worried that the problem might come back again. Maybe the print related changes made in PSE and the following selection of the same settings in LR did - somehow - "synchronize" LR to a proper color management. Sounds weird, but if it works...
I hope this long explanation was useful to - at least - some of you, who experience printer problems in LR. LR is a fantastic application, and I enjoy using it, but the printer problems has really been frustrating.
    Good luck!
    /Per

Little unclear about the border thing- you say it prints with a too wide border, but also say:
When I print the image with this set up, it still is printed without a border.
It's a factor of your printer, though; some can never print without a margin around all sides; this can be a border, or cut off. Good news, though; you can have a 5 x 7 borderless, or with any size border you wish if you print on larger paper, and trim to taste.

  • Laserjet CM1415fnw - wireless printing extremely slow

    Hello,
I've got my new CM1415fnw, set up wireless following instructions and installed OSX drivers on my Macbook. Printer is visible and manageable via HP utility, test page is printing extremely fast.
The problem is, everything EXCEPT a test page is printing HIDEOUSLY slow - like 5 to 7 minutes after you sent anything to print, the printer finaly starts printing it... And if you're printing a multi-page document, it actually takes 5 to seven minutes for EVERY page to start printing!
Obviously, something must be very wrong with this shiny new printer printing at cool speed of 8-10 pages PER HOUR, where my old Photosmart C7100 was happily printing about the same number of pages per minute? All wireless setting are the same in both cases, and as I already mentioned printer is visible and accessible, and test page prints blazingly fast. It's just that except for test page printing this device is pretty much useless at the moment...
Are there any hints or something I should check to identify the problem? As I'm mentioned, I'm under OSX, so Windows-based HP diagnostic tools are not much help...

Hello I just bought this printer a few days ago and set it up and have noticed the same problems with extremely slow network printing through the wireless. I have a 70 meg down fast internet connection & a Belkin 450n db wireless router. When I print photos it takes almost a half an hour for the photos to come through the network and print, which seems very strange for an office LaserJet to be considered normal output. I've also look into purchasing an auto duplex accessory and extra RAM but have sadly found out that neither are an option for this model. First off I have to say shame on you HP for not offering loyal customers the option for auto duplexing and RAM upgrading. Second the print speeds on this thing are absolutely atrocious! Third, your outsourcing of customer support or tech support overseas absolutely sucks. I called up tech support and was transferred immediately to the Philippines. The wrong department received my call and then transferred me to India. I spoke with somebody who had a terrible accent and the call quality was bad on top of that so half an hour went by and he really couldn't help me with my slow network printing issues. On top of that I asked him if although duplexing an extra RAM were accessories I could purchase for this model and he couldn't figure that out he didn't have an answer. So now that I finished ranting , can anybody help me with this or is this the way this thing was made to be, slow as can be?

  • HP LaserJet P1006 Print very slow with Windows 8.1

I have an HP LaserJet 1006 that is installed on Toshiba Laptop running Windows 8.1 and was working fine even from time to time it stop working at all, then I have to remove the software and then reinstall it again and then it works fine, last time I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Driver for the printer.
But this time, first I tried to remove the software but it didn't work; the printer still show up on the control panel - Devices and Printers. then some how I was able to reinstall the software , after that the printer is working but printing very slow even it is a LaserJet printer.
Please any one can help with that?
    Thanks;

    Hey @wmowafi,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing a slow printing issue on Windows 8.1 when printing to your HP Laserjet P1006 Printer. I would like to work with you today at resolving this issue. Now the only driver available for your product on Windows 8.1 is a hostbased plug and play basic generic driver. Therefore, there is limitations for what can be done for troubleshooting. As you stated, you have already attempted an uninstalled and reinstalled of the driver to no avail. I'm going to suggest some further steps and tools to resolve this issue for you.
    Step 1: Uninstall Your Printer:
    Disconnect your USB cable
Click the following link: Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled to access the Microsoft Uninstall Tool.
Once the website opens, select Run Now on the right hand side
    Allow the Tool to run.
    When prompted choose Uninstall
A list of programs should populate and you're looking for the Laserjet. It may appear as LJ P1000 series. Please select the Laserjet series and Uninstall it.
If the Laserjet doesn't show in the list of programs than your Windows 8.1 computer does not see the Laserjet driver as properly installed.
Step 2: Clear the Temp Files:
Launch your Start screen by right clicking on the Windows icon on the bottom left of your screen or by select the Windows button on your keyboard located to the right of the Ctrl button.
Once the Start screen launches, type the word Run
Click on Run to launch it
In the Run box type %temp% and select OK
Once the Temp folder opens, hold down Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard and everything will highlight in the folder. Select 'Delete' on your keyboard. Don't worry, no files or folders on your actual computer will be removed during this process. If a file is still be used on your computer you will get a pop up to 'skip' the file
Once the Temp folder is emptied of its files, close the window
On your Desktop, right click on the Recycling Bin and left click on 'Empty Recycling Bin'
    Restart you computer
Step 3: Reinstall the Laserjet P1006:
Please keep your USB cable disconnected
Click on the following link: HP LaserJet P1000-P1500 Hostbased Plug and Play Basic Driver
The driver page for your product will now launch
Select Download and allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete an extraction will automatically run and once completed the installer will launch
Run through the step-by-step on screen instructions.
Please do not plug in your USB cable until prompted
Ensure that your USB cable is plugged in from the rear of the printer directly to the computer. Avoid extenders or docking stations as they can cause printing and communication issues.
    Test printing!
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. Good luck!

My magic mouse behaves erratically with intermittent problems - slows down, right click doesn't work, disconnects for a few seconds then reconnects. Anyone suggest what I could do to fix this?

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Canon MX870 prints incredibly slow via WIFI

I have an MX870 with an iMac quad core running OSX 10.6 and a netgear router.  I don't use a USB cable because the run would exceed 15' because of the way the furniture is layed out where the computer and printer are, and the USB cable is too long to power the connection.  This has happened with every printer I've used.  However, the printer/computer and router are all physically within about 6 feet of each other at most (I'm just trying to avoid running a USB cable directly across the carpet in the middle of the living room).  So I use the wireless printing option.  However, even when i have a document that is composed of nothing more than 1 black and white sentence and nothing else on the page, or a envelope that I'm putting nothing more on than an address, it always takes between 2-3 minutes from the time I hit print, to the time the paper comes out of the printer.  Even with wireless printing, this can't be right.  There has to be some way of speeding up the process.  Any suggestions would be welcome.  Thanks

Yes, I've installed the CD completely and no this isn't the first or second time I've used the printer and had this issue. I've had the printer a few months and always had this slow printing problem. If I'm literally printing one white page that has only one word typed on it, it takes 2-3 minutes from the time I hit print until the time it comes out.
Now, I am usually turning the printer on when this happens. But even if I leave it on, I have the same delay with subsequent prints I try while it's till on.
As you watch the printer LED display, it appears it's taking a while to receive the info from the computer/router. I hit print, see the LED change from idle to processing, and it stays in processing for a whiile. Once it begins to actually print, that usually goes at a normal speed.
