PSE 8 Watch Folders (Elements Organiser)

Good day to you all.
I've been working with GIMP a lot, but due to several reasons I purchased PSE8 & PRE8 recently.
As I'm Dutch and I want my children to be able to use the SW, I installed the Dutch version.
Now, there's a problem with Watch Folders (Dutch: Mappen controleren).
I've been reading about this on the forum, but nobody seems to have 'my problem'.
When I choose Bestand/Mappen Controleren... (Eng. File/Watch Folders...) I get a message box: 'De service map controleren is niet beschikbaar'
Even entering this (quoted) sentence in Google leaves me with no results at all.
In English this would be: 'The service Watch Folders is not available'.
On the forum I found the hint to check the "Adobe Active File Monitor" Service.
But within that list I cannot find that service, or even a look-alike.
At ElementsVillage I read that a re-installation with A/V (I have AVG) turned of would do the trick...
Is there anybody her who may direct me further to the solution?
Thanks a lot.

Reinstalling with anti-virus turned off didn't fix it?  If not, then see this message:

  • PSE 7 Watch Folders

I am evaluating PSE 7 functionality for purchase to replace Google's poorly functional Picasa (constant high CPU).  In PSE 7, I have setup the Watch Folders (including subfolders), but the program isn't scanning/discovering anything.  As a test, I copied a picture into the root of the Watch Folders, and after (literally) 10 minutes it finally discovered it and added it into an album.
If there is more action required other than simply enabling the Watch Folders, then please let me know.  This is not a good first impression of Adobe software.  May just need to stick with open source software if the product cannot be reliable.

The .CR's are from different models.  XTi and T1i.
Have you downloaded and installed the most recent version of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in?  The T1i requires ACR 5.4, while PSE 7 ships with ACR 4.5.   PSE gets squirrely if you try to work with raw files that aren't supported by the version of ACR you have installed.

As of June 2010 I no longer maintain this FAQ. I’ve migrated to Lightroom 3, which I use for all my organizing and most of my editing (I still use the Photoshop Elements Editor for more involved editing).  Adobe has clearly decided not to invest sufficient resources for properly maintaining the Photoshop Elements Organizer– see my Amazon review of PSE 8. Lightroom is marketed to professionals and prosumers with tens of thousands of photos who demand adequate organizational capabilities, whereas Photoshop Elements is marketed to consumers, most of whom do not want or use the Organizer.
This page captures my answers to frequent questions about Photoshop Elements 6, 7, and 8 (Windows).  It’s mostly about the Organizer, since I know the Organizer much better than the Editor.
The versions to which each FAQ applies are indicated with the notation [PSE 6, 7, 8]. If I’m not sure whether something applies to a version, it will be indicated with a question mark, e.g. [PSE 7, 8?].

  • Using PS Elements 11 on a Mac how can one replicate Finder folders in the Elements Organiser view?

Hi all - I have found the Organiser folder structure quite confusing and it does not seem to replicate the Finder folder structure other than randomly, unlike Bridge in PS for PC which I also use.
I would love to be able to create folders in elements or simply do so in Finder and find them show up in elements Organiser. It seems to me that only once I have saved an image to a folder in the Finder does it show up in the Organiser folder view. Is this correct?
Any suggestions around a sensible workflow or approach here would be most welcome, thanks. Sean

Many thanks Andaleeb - yes I have tried that and it seems only to add to the confusion - folders which in the Finder clearly show all my images are blank in PSE Organiser with the statement that they still have to be imported into PS Organiser. I guess that may be my fault because, due to the problems in locating files in Organiser I right clicked on them in the Finder and said 'open with PSE'. So in effect I bypassed PSE Organiser. But one would still have hoped that the folder hierarchy would be the same in Organiser and the Finder. Very confusing! I have never seen a program deal with folders etc in the way PSE does.
    all the best
    Sean

  • Unwanted folders in Photoshop Elements Organiser

I've recently started using Photoshop Elements 13 on a new Windows 8.1 Laptop.
I've started bringing some folders into the Organizer and have had some unwanted ones turn up...
The unwanted folders have names like festive, confetti and album_16x9_c71ff90be.....  and they all appear to have a single music file in them and be located in the slideshow > themes > assets subfolder of Adobe. Given this folder isn't within the Pictures folder I've set Adobe to look at I don't how the folders have ended up in my Organizer.
    So, I'm seeking assistance to:
    - delete the unwanted folders and files from my organizer which I haven't figured out how to do; and
    - work out how they ended up there so I can make sure it doesn't happen again.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    - delete the unwanted folders and files from my organizer which I haven't figured out how to do;
Have you tried going to Watch Folders options and then delete from there?  See this picture:
To get to this screen, Launch the Organizer and then Go to:
File >> Files folders  (this 5th item from the bottom)
    Good luck.

  • Where is the 'Watch Folders' option in PSE 9 Organizer for Mac?

I'm sure it's right in front of my face, but I can't find it. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Bob, thanks to you especially for your candor. I use Adobe products for both photography and graphic design. I have been a loyal PSE user since PSE 4, but I use Photoshop (started out with CS2, now up to CS5) for all of my editing. I only use PSE for my digital asset management. The reason I need watched folders is that any new files I create in CS5 are not automatically added to my catalog in PSE. I switched to a Mac 3 years ago and wasn't happy with any of the alternatives, so I have been using PSE for Mac since version 9. However, over the years, I have found that I don't always remember to go back into the PSE catalog to import after working on something in CS5, so my catalog is always missing some files. I have found a watched folder plugin for Lightroom that seems to work pretty seamlessly in the background, but I found Lightroom not nearly as intuitive to use when I bought LR2 a few years back. Plus, facial recognition is a big feature for me, and LR4 still lacks that. I guess that, for Mac users, there's really no one solution that works as well as PSE does for Windows users.
I guess I'll have to continue my search...Thanks again for your replies!

  • Watch folders stopped working in Elements 8 Organizer

    Please can anyone help?
I upgraded to Elements 8 some time ago and have been successfully using the watch folders service for several months to quickly add my edited photos to organizer. The watch folders has suddenly stopped working. I have read through many forum posts on the subject, but nothing seems to get it back. Adobe Active File Monitor is set to automatic and is started (I've actually tried re-starting it but still didn't work). In Organizer the watch folder is set to the folder and sub-folders I want to import from - same as always. I've tried removing the folder and adding it again.
Not only this, but the alternative, checking the box to add to Organizer when saving my files also doesn't work properly, it only imports the first of a batch of edited pictures. When I go to get media from folder, Organizer tells me the files are already there, which they are, but I can only see them if I close and re-open the organizer.
Can anyone offer suggestions why things have suddenly gone wrong. Nothing on my compuer has changed. I'm using Vista Home Premium. I'm really really trying to avoid having to re-install elements.

I could have sworn that was the correct shortcut.   Here are instructions for navigating to the Organizer's preference file along with some other info that might be helpful.
Step #3 in this document tells where to navigate to that preference file.

  • Premiere Elements 9 Watched Folders

Bottom Line: Based on working with the Premiere Elements 9 trial version, it appears that you do not need Photoshop Elements 9 installed on the same computer as Premiere Elements 9 in order to be able to use the Watched Folder feature in Premiere Elements 9. For Premiere Elements 8, you had to have Photoshop Elements 8 installed on the same computer as Premiere Elements 8 to get a functioning Watch Folder feature in Premiere Elements 8.
    Background
Also, please refer to April 2010 "Watched Folders" thread here where the topic was gone over for Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/616740?tstart=0
There is a feature called Watched Folders which provides for the automatic placement of media in the Elements Organizer when the media are placed into a hard drive folder designated in the Watched Folder dialog.
You name that folder or folders in the Watch Folders dialog gotten to via the route Elements Organizer File Menu/Watched Folders. But in order for that Watch Folder dialog to be available you need to have a specific activated file in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. For version 8, it is “Adobe Active File Monitor V8”, and, for version 9, it is “Adobe Active File Monitor V9”.
Now you can install JUST Premiere Elements 9 and have the specific “Adobe Active File Monitor V9” be present and activated to make the Watched Folder dialog available for use
    (a) Click on the Organizer Tab in the row above the line up Organize Edit Disc Menus  Share
    (b) In the Elements Organizer, go to File Menu/Watched Folders
    (c) If any problems, check the "Adobe Active File Monitor V9" status in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services.

If you are shooting in any hi-def format, the video will need to be re-encoded when you produce a BluRay disc regardless. Even if you're feeding HDV in and gettiing MPEG2 out for your BluRay, the video is still being encoded to BluRay format -- so it's not more efficient to create an MPEG2 BluRay.
In fact, since all BluRay players can play H.264 video and since H.264 is a more advanced codec, it makes much more sense to go with this codec for all BluRay discs.

  • Watch Folders - Not Watching  PSE 5

I have one of my folders checked as a watched folder but it's not working.
I have checked the box "WATCH FOLDERS AND THEIR SUB-FOLDERS FOR NEW FILES" as well as the box "WHEN NEW FILES ARE FOUND IN WATCHED FOLDERS: NOTIFY ME"
I've added a new folder to the watched folder with some photos and the program does not notify me that new photos need to be added.
I've restarted the computer and re-started PSE a few times to no avail.
Additionally, the Adobe Active File Monitor service is active.
Note that this has worked once or twice since enabling the option, but not anymore.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

    I am using Win7 64.
I don't see anything in that FAQ about watch folders per se, it is talking about downloading pictures but I don't think that's quite the same thing.  It mentions that the service does not start up, however I can see the pse "file monitor" service running on my machine, so I think these are two separate things we're talking about.

  • Watched Folders PSE 8

I have installed PSE 8 and cannot get Organizer to update catalogue from the watched folder. If I add the folder to the watched folders list I get the little eye symbol ok. When I restart the program the eye disappears. I am running windows 7. What am I doing wrong.

I don't use a password to login to my computer as Doug. If I leave the password boxes blank it comes up with a login error
Windows often requires accounts to have passwords if you want to access other resources.   Try temporarily giving your account a password and then seeing if having Active File Monitor service running as you fixes the problem (Start > Control Panel > User Accounts to change your password).  If that works, then you can leave the password on your account and configure Windows to log you in automatically when you boot:

  • Can you set up watch folders on PSE 12 on a mac?

Do you have to do this manually when you add new photos? On Picasa there were watch folders and every time you added a photo to it, it would synch with the organizer... I wasn't thinking this was a downgrade when I purchased it.

Watch folders is a Windows only feature.

  • Watch Folders - unavailable

I am new to Elements (8).   I wanted to make sure that and new photos that I add to my computer would automatically go onto PSE.    From what I have read, I should click 'Watch Folders' and choose the folder that contains my pics.
When I tried this, is says that Services are unavailable.   I checked the Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services, and Adobe is not in there.
    Any ideas?

Unfortunately, I cannot do anything at the moment because HP laptop is packed up, ready for them to pick it up for the on-going microphone repair (this is the 3rd time), and my other laptop is with my husband in Austria at the moment.
Which ever one gets here first, I will try as you suggest, and get back to you.
    Thanks

  • Watched Folders List

I'm using Elements 9.  The Watched Folders List function in Organiser does not function!  Any ideas as to what might be wrong and what I can do about it.  I'm running Windows7.64bit
    Thanks for any help.

    Ken –
Thank you so much – it worked a treat.
I wonder if there you might have some insight into another irritating niggle with PS9 Organiser.  Instead of the top bar permanently displaying along the top of the window there is this almost invisible, dark grey on black background square which I must click to access these menus.  I am unable to find information anywhere which would give the option to always show this bank of menus.  My monitor is a Dell 2410, resolution set at 1920 x 1200.  If you or anyone else know what I might do I would appreciate hearing from you.
Again, thanks for your prompt response to my previous question.

  • Use AME watch folders with preset ContentAnalysis

I have to do speech recognition on a number of files. The AME watch folders do exactly what I want - automatically processing files put into a specific folder. But I am unable to select "ContentAnalysis" as my preferred preset, which seems to be the requirement for AME doing speech recognition. Is there any possibility to let the watch folders do speech recognition for me, like AME does if I select "Analyze" in Premiere Pro?

  • Elements Organiser with iPhoto

Is there any way to use Elements Organiser along side iPhoto but keep it from creating a duplicate photo library?  I want to keep iPhoto as my library organizer, but wanted to use Elements Organiser periodically to use the "create" tools like cards.

You can set up the PSE Editor as your external editing application in iPhoto preferences. You can then edit photos directly from iPhoto.
