PSE 9.0 Organizer does not recognize iPhoto

I purchased PSE 9.0 the other day and after I loaded it on my iMac (running OSX 10.6.5) I tried to use Organizer to import photo's into it. WHen I select "Get Files/From iPhoto" from the menu bar I get an error message that says  "There is no media to import from your iPhoto"  But the problem is there is. I have 100's of pics in iPhoto. iPhoto works and the folder for iPhoto is there.  So what am I doing wrong?

The easiest thing is to use the iphoto export command to send the photos to the desktop, then put them where you want to keep them, then use File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders.
As an aside, you don't want to use both iphoto and organizer to manage your photos, since that causes much confusion and duplication of efforts, since the two programs essentially serve the same basic function. If you're thinking about switching to organizer, I would make a small test catalog first and try that a while to see how it works for you.
EDIT Just checking: You do know you can still use iphoto as your photo management program with PSE? Just set up the PSE  editor as your  external editor in the iphoto prefs and send your photos from iphoto.

  • Elements 9 does not recognize iPhoto pics when trying to import?

I need help in importing pics into elements 9 from I photo?  Elements does not recognize the photos to import them.

You may need the 9.0.2 update if using iPhoto 11. However you need to make a decision. Use Organizer or use iPhoto but not both otherwise you will end up with lots of duplicate files on your hard drive. You can alternatively set up PSE9 as your external editor in the iPhoto preferences. Then you can use Edit In directly from the iPhoto app. If you really want to switch to Organizer see these notes for further help:

  • PSE Elements 9 Editor does not recognize scanner

Mac OS 10.7 Lion. Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Editor does not recognize my scanner (Epson 3170 Photo) even though scanner shows up in Preferences Print & Fax. Awkward workaround is to scan to desktop and open scan in PSE9.

Over in Windows, applications link to a scanner via TWAIN software, which is not included with Windows 7 - so the solution is to manually download the twain driver and install it
How do applications link to a scanner using a Mac, and does your OS include that driver?

  • ITunes does not recognize iPhoto

iTunes is not recognizing iPhoto or my individual albums in iPhoto. I have reinstalled both pieces of software, done restarts and still no success. The menu in iTunes shows music, audiobooks, videos, podcasts, but no photos.I cannot sync pics to my iPhone.
    Any suggestions?

Okay, here's what I've been doing...
Some users have suggested that this problem is with a corrupted AlbumData.xml file, others have suggested that it may be due to the iPhoto library folder being in a location other than it's default location in Users/user name/library/iPhoto Library.
So, since my iPhoto Library folder is currently on a partition I did the following:
    1. With iTunes and iPhoto closed, I first went to the default location and made sure I didn't have an iPhoto Library folder there. Since I had originally dragged that file to my partition and made an alias to replace it in the default location (before I learned I could choose a library at the program launch) there was not an iPhoto library folder in the default location. If I had had an iPhoto library folder there I would have trashed it to start afresh. (if anyone is following these steps and is currently using this iPhoto library folder - I would suggest backing it up to an external drive before you make any changes.)
    2. Next, I started iPhoto while holding down the option key. When the dialog box opened I choose to create a new library in the default location of my home Library folder and I named it iPhoto Library Test.
    3. After iPhoto finished starting, I imported some photos (87 to be exact) and created two albums.
    4. I quit iPhoto.
    5. And plugged in my iPhone.
    6. iTunes and iPhoto automatically started. iPhoto wanted to import photos from my iPhone (as it always does - but that's a whole other thread). I just quit iPhoto and let iTunes finish its sync. I then chose my iPhone, selected the Photos tab, and viola - there was my new iPhoto library with the two new Albums.
    7. So I ejected the iPhone and unplugged - then quit iTunes.
From this, I concluded that my problem was isolated to either my library's location or my library itself, so:
    8. I went back to the folder iPhoto Library Test and dragged it to my other disk partition. Since this just copied it, I then trashed the original in the default location.
    9. I went back to iPhoto holding down the option key as I started it and chose to locate an existing library. I navigated to the moved iPhoto Library Test on my partitioned disk and let iPhoto finish starting.
    10. Next, I repeated steps 4 - 7 and ended with the exact same results.
From this, I have concluded that my problem is not the location of my library but with the library itself. The consensus on other threads seems to be that the AlbumData.xml file in the iPhoto library folder can become corrupted and iTunes will then not see it.
I've tried rebuilding the AlbumData (you hold command-option as iPhoto starts.)
I've tried the terminal code instructions on the other threads - but with no luck. I get an error that there is extra data in my AlbumData.xml file, when other people seem to get an error that some of their photo's names include incorrect characters. For them, they simply remove the wrong characters, save the file and everything works. I, however, haven't found out what the extra data is that I need to remove.
So, I guess I'm left with making a new library and importing all my pictures from the old one. I'm going to do this systematically, though, so as to find any bad files as I'm re-building the library (and I'm also going to use this opportunity to edit-out some photos and trim my library size) - but this will be a long and arduous task. The worst part is, while I have close to 7,500 photos in my library, my wife (who has this same problem syncing her iPhone on her iMac) has just over 25,000 - that's a re-build I'm not looking forward to...
I'll let you know what I find and what the result is.

  • IPhoto does not recognize iPhoto Library after upgrade

Machine:  iMac, OS 10.8.2, iPhoto 9.4.1
Symptoms:  After upgrading iPhoto to 9.4.1 I cannot open my iPhoto library of some 30,000 photos.  I can see the library in the finder, but iPhoto doesn't want to link to it.  It did show in the library pane briefly the Events and Pictures at the full count, but then dropped to zero.
Actions:  Opened iPhoto with the OPTION key to specify which library iPhoto should use.  Not effective.
Opened iPhoto with the COMMAND AND OPTION keys and ran all actions from repairing permissions, rebuilding thumbnails, repairing the database, and rebuilding the database.  Results:  3 Events and 265 Photos.  32,577 photos in Trash.
What steps will restore the Library to its original state?  Will this restore meta-data, captions, events, dates, etc?

    Try this. Worked for me.
    - turn off your router
    - turn off you Mac's after removing all available printers
    - turn off all iDevices
    - do a factory reset of your printer remove all cables min. 30 sec.
    - turn on your router first
    - ran the network set up wizard
    - give your printer also a new name like "DeskJet 2015"
Something which you don't have used before.
    - turn on your Mac's and add your printer
    - turn on your iDevices at least.
    Should work after these steps.
It worked for me including all iDevices.
    iOS and Yosemite

  • Organizer does not recognize my zen to

Hi,Help! I just had my firmware redownloaded by creative and now my zen touch is not coming up on the organizer. I installed the version 5 and also the zen and nomad plugin and still? no luck. Anyone who has a solution it would be appreciated. Thanks

    Jezuz,
If you have update the player firmware to the PlayForSure firmware version, you will need to also update your copy of the Media Explorer to the version that can support it. Go back to the download page where you download the firmware and look for "Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update" and "Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8)".

  • Unable to import photos to Lr from iPhoto; Lr does not recognize iPhoto as an Application

When I press IMPORT in Lr4.2, a choice of accounts and sources appears:  I press Applications under Mac HD, some apps, like iWork and Documents appear, but not iPhoto.  When I try to export JPEGS from iPhoto, a sign appears saying there is not enough disk space to export.  Please help.  Thank you.

Hey, Bobcat, I had the same problem.  I'm learning LR4 from Scott Kelby's book, "Lightroom 4 for Digital Photographers."  He led me in the right direction, but wasn't explicit about our problem of importing iPhoto images.  Anyhow, here's how I finally figured out how to do it.
First I set up a new folder in Macintosh HD >Users>(your name)>Pictures called "My Lightroom pictures."  (Kelby suggests keeping ALL your photos in a single folder, for some excellent reasons I won't detail here.)
Anyhow, with that folder set up, go into iPhoto, and export the images you want into this "My Lightroom pictures" folder.  (You can set up subfolders there, if you want, and export into them.  I do this for each iPhoto "event.")
Now go into LR4 and hit your import button.  The folder "My Lightroom Pictures" should appear in the left panel, and you can take it from there, right?
I don't snoop around this forum very often, so if you think I can help some more, email me at:  [email protected]

  • Organizer (PSE 8) does not recognize DNG files

I recently upgraded to Elements 8 for Windows.  Although I can load DNG files in to Editor, work with them and save them, the Organizer says it does not recognize this file type and will not load DNG files.  In Windows Explorer, I had to associate my DNG files (I use XP) as being an Adobe Elements file so the install program clearly dropped the ball.  Did not have this problem with Elements 7.  Organizer recognizes my Camera RAW files just fine.

I am able to get DNG files in PSE Organizer 8.0 and didnot see any issue.
Could you restart your system and see if it works!

  • 'organizer does not support the colorspace in the file' PSE 9

Does anyone know how to fix th eproblem of PSE 9 Organizer not importing a jpeg picture because 'The organizer does not support the colorspace in the file', short of a reboot?
And no the obvious 'fix the colorspace' is not the solution. This has happened to me twice in quick succession. First it was one of a batch of photos all taken at the same time, with the same camera, with the same settings. I missed checking the first of the batch when downloading them to PSE, then when I came back to this photo after downloading the rest of the batch I got the colorspace error.
The second time it happened was when I deleted a file from the catalog (but not the hard drive) and tried to import the smae file (that was previously in the catalog0 and all of a sudden the colorspace is not good enough for PSE.
Actually when this happens PSE is not prepared to recognize the colorspace of any picture file (well ok, gif, png, jpg and psd) and a reboot is required.

Please open one such file in PSE9 Editor? Does it open fine. Do a save as if it does.
Another solution could be opening this file in IrfanView which is freely downloadable. Did you happen to edit these files in between? Sometimes, file headers get corrupt due to edits and hence Organizer or Editor refuses to open them. From my observation on this forum, opening the file in IrfanView once and doing a save operation there fixes the problem most of the times.
    Thanks

  • I suddenly cannot email photos from iphoto. I get a box that says "server does not recognize username or password". I now have to use regular email and cannot re-size my photos.

Suddenly I can no longer email photos directly via iphoto mail.  The box comes up that says "server does not recognize username or password".  I used to be able to re-size my photos before sending so that they jpeg or pixels were larger for publishing in newspapers or magazines, but I can no longer do that.  Apple tech support told me to change my iphoto "preferences" to using regular email to send.  But that does not allow me to re-size.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I don't know if there was an update that caused this or what?  Please help.

The box comes up that says "server does not recognize username or password".
That error message usually will pop up, when there is a conflict between the "From" setting for the mail account you are sending from and the selected outgoing mail server. Probably the outgoing Mail server is receiving a user name and password it does not understand. When the mail returns unsent, do you see the "Try again" panel with the option to select a different outgoing mail server?
If you do not see this panel, change the Mail "Preferences > General" to "If Outgoing server is unavailable: Show a list of alternate servers". This way, you will know, which server Mail is trying to send from.
Have you tried to set "From"  pop-up menu to one of your other email addresses?  If that works, change your settings in Mail to always send from this address. You can set this option in the Mail "Preferences > Composing: Send New Messages from". I have my "Send New Messages from" set to "iCloud". That is working best for me with iPhoto.

I am trying to copy photos from an iPad to a Mac Air, but iPhoto does not recognize them. Please forgive the ignorance, but we have just started moving to apple products and I know nothing about them. Do you have to use PhotoStream to do this?

How did the photos that you want to copy off get on the iPad  ? To copy photos to your computer that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page - on a Mac you should be able to use iPhoto, Aperture or Image Capture
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

    Howdy AndieKanaras,
It sounds like your iPhone is being recognized everywhere but in iTunes. I would use the troubleshooting for that issue in the following article, named:
If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
