PSE 9 Actions

Can someone please tell me how to install actions into PSE 9

Hi Lacey,
This is how, actions can be installed in PSE 9:
Quit Photoshop Elements organizer and editor (if running)
Now, copy the .atn (action files) files to the one of the following locations:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_US\Workflow Panels\actions
Vista/7: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_US\Workflow Panels\actions
Now, launch PSE editor and you should see a difference.

  • Trouble with putting PSE action files on new computer with Windows 8

My laptop crashed and I had to get a new one. Reinstalled PSE 10 and cannot find where to put my preset action files. Previously, on Windows XP, I put files into a program data file under photo creations. I can't find a program data file or photo creation file. Can anyone help me?

You can drag your mouse to the left lower corner of the Desktop screen and when Start pops up, right click and choose Control Panel.
Then pick Appearance and Personalization and in the next screen to the right of where it says Folder Options, click on
    Show Hidden Files and Folders.

  • PSE ACTIONS

I've been VERY busy today with the information provided by funky_edior on blue skies.  I've been scouring the Adobe Photoshop Exchange.  I see LOTS of things.  I see BRUSHES and ACTIONS.
I am a little light on knowledge of how to get these into PHotoshop Elements 8.  It "seems" that the BRUSHES automatically get installed (I think - not sure) and have no idea about the ACTIONS (how do I get them into SPE8 - I see them in my download folder, but that's apparently where they stay).  And how does one use ACTIONS?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Dan ...

Actions are macros which record and automate a series of steps, which can be applied later at the touch of a button or click of the mouse. Mostly created in CS4 many, but not all, will work with PSE and can be downloaded freely on the net as ATN files.
For PSE 6 and earlier the files are usually stored under application data (not program files) and require an image to show up in elements.
This needs to be a thumbs.psd image measuring 64 x 64 pixels associated with the ATN file.
Before the new action shows up in the Styles & Effects pallet its necessary to do some work by deleting the category, list & thumbnail caches.
    http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pselements/qt/actions.htm
This may sound drastic but next time the application is launched it forces Photoshop Elements to re-build each cache which then makes the actions available.
From PSE 7 Adobe introduced the Actions Player which avoids some of the above tinkering.

  • PSE crashes when using a "close"-Step in Action Player

    Hello,
i've create an action in my regular Photoshop, which includes a step where the picture is closed without saving the changes.
When i run this action in the PSE action player it will complete every step, but the PSE application crashes at the end.
Without the closing step in the action-set, there is no problem.
I have tried PSE 9 and 10 on different computers (all XP SP3) and i have create the same action in PS CS3, CS5 and CS 5.5 as a source.
Always the same crash at the end.
Does anyone have the same problem or even knows a solution?
    Thanks a lot,

First of all, I've started looking into scripting PSE all of two days ago and don't have a funcitoning PS to use as a test, so take my comments for what they're worth:
I understand you're talking about an action, but from what I understand from the PS scripting reference there needs to be a "policy" specified for closing a document from a script -- specifying the SaveOptions (save changes, don't save changes, prompt to save changes) to the Document.close() method.
I suspect that your recorded action doesn't have your answer to the "Save changes?" prompt window in the recorded steps.  If you can't somehow get the "Don't save" option into your action, you might want to try re-creating the action as a script (where you can specify the SaveOption).

  • How to make an action in Elements 6?

First, is it possible to make an action in Elements 6? How to, and where?

Just to add to what Barbara has said, Photoshop Elements uses actions
internally to implement certain features. But, there is no public
interface. That is, there is no provision for the user to load and execute
an arbitrary action -- there is no "action player" like there is in
    Photoshop.
Beside the commands that aren't available in PSE, a lot of the techniques
that Photoshop users may employ in writting actions just won't work. For
example, in Photoshop you can stop the action, do a manual adjustment, and
then continue executing the action. In PSE, when you stop the action there
is no way to continue and the image is returned to the history state just
prior to executing the action -- you don't get to keep the changes. Often,
people developing actions for PSE have to use quite a bit of ingenuity to
    work around the limitations.
And, because actions do not have a public interface, Adobe frequently
changes the way they are installed and implemented. Every new release
changes the rules. And remember, Adobe isn't making the documentation
available to the public. Someone has to figure out what changed and how to
    make it work.
For these reasons, it's best to get your PSE actions from a site that writes
them specifically for PSE and has accounted for the specific PSE verson,
such as the sites mentioned by Barbara.

  • Missing mediadatabase.db3 on iMac

Hello,  I am hoping someone may be able to help me!  I recently installed some PSE actions and deleted my mediadatabase.db3.  I reopned PSE and everything loaded correctly and is working great.  However, it does not seem to have rebuilt.  I have a few more actions I forgot to install and have installed them all the way up to deleted the file, which has not regenerated as it usually does.  Obviously my new actions are not showing up in PSE. The only .db3 file on my system is the Thumbdatabase.  I'm not sure what to do.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I see all of my previous actions in my effects and contents panel when PSE is open.  I am not positive that is what you are referring to.  When I go into my en_US my only options are: application swfs, creation graphics, messaging pods, photo creations, service-menus.dat, welcome scr pods & workflow panels.  There is no longer a mediadata file since I deleted it after my last action install.

  • Does anyone recall how to install Virtual Guitar into GB

    My saga continues:
I reinstalled GB2.02 on my G5 1.8 and it is fine now. Midi files import like they should. However as usual problems persist: i am getting core error -1
if i open up my converted VST's to AU's in the generator.
Does anyone have VGEE or VG in GB2.02 and could you tell me how you installed them.
my dilemma:::: I have it installed perfectly in my G5 2.5 GHZ
yet that G5 will not allow midi importation. I have used with much glee VG VGEE and acoustic version ( VST-AU ) on the 2.5GHZ but if i go ahead and reinstall a new GB that will fix the midi problem BUT the VST's will start in with this core error -1 and i will resent it since i have songs with this great plug in and dont want to rock the boat. SO in summary for all those soap opera addicts, i have a perfectly running GB2.02 on my G5 1.8 ( freshly installed 2.02) but it wont give me the AU's. I have a GB2.02 on the 2.5GHZ G5 that wont import midi files but feeds me those AU's sans problems. Am i a complicated garagebander or what?
I am not risking a new install on the 2.5 until someone knows exactly how to do it. I have the latest fx wrapper from fx expansion.
    anyone ... raise your hands!

    Hopefully, this should help.

  • Action steps that won't run correctly in PSE 7/8/9 (but did in 4 and 6)

I have a wonderful action that was written to work in PSE 3/4/6.  It won't run in PSE 7/8/9.  After fooling around for a while, I think I understand why.  Adobe changed the way Adjustment Layers are handled.  In earlier versions of Photoshop and Elements, Adjustment Layers threw up a modal dialog box.  That changed so that Adjustment Layers now appear in the Palette Bin as a palette.
Here a sample of some of the action steps that won't work correctly:
    Make adjustment layer
    Using: adjustment layer
    Type: levels
    Set Selection
    To: none
    Set current layer
    To: layer
    Name:  “Adjustment 1”
    Set current layer
    To: layer
    Mode: luminosity
    Stop
    Message:  “Move gray slider left”
    With Continue
    Set current adjustment layer
    To: levels
In earlier versions of PS and PSE, the way these steps would work is that a new adjustment layer would be created, the dialog box giving the instruction would open, it would be dismissed by clicking "Continue," and then the "Set current adjustment layer to: Levels" would generate a model adjustment layer dialog box would open up which would let one make the adjustment.
In newer versions, since Adjustment Layers are handled in the Palette Bin, after dismissing the instructions, the action doesn't stop to allow the user to make change the sliders on the adjustment layer.
The action runs perfectly in CS4 and CS5 and throws up the levels adjustment modal box as it did in PSE 4 and PSE 6, but the action doesn't throw the modal box in PSE 7/8/9
Does anyone know of a way to alter the action steps to allow the action to stop to allow the adjustment and then to resume again?

Adding a new levels adjustment layer on top of the Midtone contrast layer
should work, just use a clipping mask to restrict the adjustments to the
areas of the levels adjustment layer below. The histogram will be different, but
actually testing the action is really the only way to know if that makes any difference.
Replacing the levels adjustment layer is another option, though it requires a few more steps.
The following assumes when the action gets to this point,
the Midtone contrast adjustment layer is the active (selected) layer.
To record this part of the action:
    1. Duplicate current channel (in the channels panel. drag the Midtone contrast mask
down to the Create new channel icon at the bottom of the channels panel)
    2. Ctrl+click on the newly created channel (Midtone contrast mask copy)
This loads the selection of that channel.
    3. Drag the new channel (midtone contrast mask copy) to the trash icon at the bottom
       of the channels panel.
    4. Back in the layers panel, delete the Midtone Contrast adjustment layer.
    5. Go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels
This creates a new levels adjustment layer using the selection loaded from
the duplicated channel and opens the levels dialog.
To load the RGB (composite) as a selection, Ctrl+click on the rgb in the channels panel
and the same is true for the red, green and blue channels.
With layer masks, elements doesn't seem to want to load them as selections in actions,
so that's the reason for the action steps above.

  • Actions in PSE 8

I read that PSE 8 now has a funtion for actions but can't find it anywhere in the programme (mac version). Can anybody help me?

Wow - that's great! Thanks to your screenshot and your good description I've found it! Great - one problem is solved. I've got another one though. I'm trying to load an extra action out from PS into Elements. And got the next problem there. Although I followed the online help and loaded in „Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/8.0/Locale/en_US/Workflow Panels/actions“ or to be more precise Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/8.0/Locale/Adobe Photoshop Element 8/Presets/Actions" as the written path from the help could not exactely bei found in my Mac. Different to what is said in the help instructions I can't find it after the new start of pse. Do you by chance have help for this proble, too?

  • I used to use PS "actions" are they in PSE 8 for Mac?

I have been using an old version of Photoshop for Mac. Under  the Windows heading there was an Actions option where I could "record" some actions to edit photos and the"play" it to perfrom the same actions on different photos.
In PSE 8 for Mac I see that under Guided Edit there is an Action player with 4 presets, none of which suit my purposes. It says that I can add (from where I don't know) or create my own actions sets by referring to the Help menu. When I search the help menu for " Create Action set" I get 15 topics and none of them seem to be about creating actions sets.
I'd like to be able to record a set of acttions such as OPEN FILE- SIZE IMAGE-UNSHARP MASK-SAVE-CLOSE- and then play it back.
    Help appreciated.
    thanks,
    Rob

When you save an action from photoshop 7, you should be able to
choose the place for saving (i.e. desktop).
The default place for saving actions is very often in the ps7 application folders.
    Something like: Applications>Photoshop 7>Presets>Photoshop Actions.
As far as what actions from ps7 work in pse8, try to record steps in your
action that are available in pse8. Something like unsharp mask will work,
but not a command such as convert to cmyk. There are alot of commands
that are not on the pse8 menus that do work such as a layer mask or trim.
It would be good idea to test your actions in pse8, before installing a whole bunch and
finding that half of them don't work.
You could make test action for this purpose. In ps7, record an action
    such as Image>Trim.
Name this action set Test (you can name the actual actions anything you want)
and put it in your pse8 photo creations>photo effects folder.
Then delete (move to your desktop) the MediaDatabase.db3 and start pse7
(this will take a while to rebuild the effects panel).
The Test action should be visable in the effects panel after selecting
photo effects and show all. It wiil just be a black thumbnail named Test.
From now on when you want to test an action, just replace the Test action
with another action named Test, but with the action steps your testing
and no need to delete any files (database).
By testing your actions in this way, you avoid the hassle of making a
xml file and a png thumbnail for an action that may not work.
When installing actions that have been tested, you also need a xml file
and a png thumbnail file in addition to the action. (look at xml and png
files already in the photo effects folder for examples).
You don't have worry about the jpeg files, as elements generates these itself.
It's a good idea to delete (move to desktop) the the MediaDatabase.db3
and the ThumbDatabase.db3 anytime you install actions other than the Test action.
After you start pse8 and everything works, you can delete those files from your desktop.
There is also an action player in pse8 under guided edit>automated actions.
As tempting as it may be to test actions with the actions player, i would avoid that.
One very good reason is that some of commands that are in pse8 don't work with
the actions player, for example, any of the transform commands.
In addition to texaschicksblog mentioned above, you may also want to read this pdf:
    http://www.camner.net/files/actions_in_PSE_8_for_mac.pdf
    Hope some of this helps.

  • I loaded actions into my PSE 10, then when I restarted my PC (windows 7) and PSE 10 I got a Runtime Error (Microsoft Visual C    Runtime Library)

I loaded actions into my PSE 10, then when I restarted my PC (windows 7) and PSE 10 I got a Runtime Error (Microsoft Visual C    Runtime Library)

Are these actions you put into the C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Photo Creations\photo effects folder?
If so, did you delete both the
    ThumbDatabase.db3  in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0
    and
    MediaDatabase.db3 in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Locale\en_us

Then let the pse 10 editor run for about 10 to 20 minutes to rebuild the effects database.

  • PSE 9 Help! My effects palette is blank! Also help installing actions..

Maybe these two problems are related?
I am new to PSE 9 but I was using 8 until now. I have great Actions that worked beautifully in PSE 8. I am trying to install them the same way for PSE 9 but I seem to be missing a whole folder.
    The path I take is:
    Library>Application Support>Adobe>PSE>9.0>Locale>
Then All there is is a "Photo Creations Thumbnails" folder which is empty.
Do I need to reinstall PSE?
Also, My effects palette is totally blank! Nothing there to click on!
    Please help!!!
    Thanks!

Thank you so much for all your help
I ended up Uninstalling and Re-installing. The effects palette is working fine now-but I am still unable to install my actions for some reason.
I went the same route and found the Photo Creations folder, copy pasted my actions.. When I opened PS, they were not there.
I went back and looking in the Photo Creations folder and the actions were not there. I RE-copied them in the folder and it said they were already there?
    Weird.
I clicked to replace the old ones, and I still do not actually see them in the folder.
    What the heck?
