PSE 9 Image edit problem

I have recently upgraded to PSE 9 on my iMac having used PSE 6 without any problems for a while.  PSE 9 does everything well except cropping.  When I use the crop tool then select the green tick to complete the crop the image "disappears".  When I say disappears I mean it shows as a size of 0.04cm x 0.04cm.  Any effort I do to resize it back to something original has no effect.  Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?  I haven't seen any mention of this on the Forums so I am assuming it is not a bug with PSE 9....or is it?

The first thing you need to try is clicking on the dropdown menu at the far left of the options toolbar and select Reset tool. If this doesn't work, it might be that the preferences file has corrupted during the upgrade. You will need to reset it by holding Cmd, Opt and Shift when you launch the editor from the welcome screen.

  • Stupidly Large Image Editing Problems

So I got some 10x14's the other day of my dad riding his old interceptor which were decent looking with a lot of noise and print errors and decided to clean them up. Found a 6 year old photo scanner that scanned to 2400DPI, though that was over kill so I scanned to 1200DPI......hahaha
Now I have a bunch of images that are 10400x13680 or so pixels. . .
RAW File size at 30mb, many laughs were had by all
But now running aperture at 200% with stock fans maxxed out and a set of secondary fans running at 3500rpm I CANNOT half-way edit the image for my life.
If the computer doesnt freeze, aperture doesnt crash, and the editing software doesnt explode, I still cannot save the edited file.
    Any recommendations please?

Try scanning at a lower rate like 300dpi, I find this is usually acceptable for old photos that you will use on the web or even printing.

  • Image editing problem in E6-00

I am not getting edit option under photo options.

If the edit option that you are looking for is what I have in mind, see below instruction from the user guide of the device.
With Photo editor, you can add effects, text, clip art, or frames to your pictures.
Select Menu > Applications > Photo editor and a picture.
1 To insert effects, select the desired option from the extended toolbar.
2 To save the edited picture, select Options > Save. The edited picture does not
    replace the original picture.
To later view your edited pictures, select Menu > Photos.

  • Editing problem in PSE 12

I have recently updated to PSE 12 and have (at least) two problems.
First, the edited versions of images edited in Photo Editor do not save to Organizer or Version Set, although they do appear in the relevant Windows folder.  I have checked the various settings in the Save function and they appear to correct.  This problem does not arise if I use Instant Fix.
Second, tags in the People, Places and Events groups do not appear when Remove Keyword Tag is clicked, even though they are visible on the screen with the relevant image and work normally to select images.  However, tags in the Keyword group do appear normally when Remove Keyword Tag is selected.
I have tried the Catalog Repair function and it tells me that there is nothing to repair.
If I move the images to a different (new) catalog created in PSE12, the problems disappear. This is not a solution to my problem as I have far too many images to organise in a new catalog.
The problems also disappear if I use PSE 10 on the same images.
    Advice welcome.

Michel,...However, the tag issue appears even worse than I thought.  The upgrade has

a way to recover from this?  Or can I remove PSE 12 and reinstall it in a
different way, so that the tags are preserved (or is it too late to do
    this?)
    Maurice
    Maurice,
Reinstalling is not a solution. I suppose you still have PSE10 and that you have not done many additions and changes to your catalog since upgrading.
To understand why I was not bothered by the migration of people and events tags from PSE10 to PSE11, remember that you can rename categories as you wish, even if they are default categories in PSE10. With my English PSE version, I had renamed People = Personnes, Family = Famille, Friends = amis, and so on. Since the catalog conversion is based on the default category names, the conversion ignored those pre-defined categories et considered them as custom ones.
So, just try to rename the categories in PSE10; MyPeople instead of People, MyEvents instead of Events and so on. Then from PSE12 (would be the same for PSE11) convert again the catalog from the catalog manager menu of PSE12. You have to check the box to 'show already converted catalogs'. That should convert it to the old way. You may have to re-import new items, but that should not be too big a problem.

What edition of LR 5? What edition of ACR does PSCS 6 contain. If they are not parallel (same edition number x in [5 or 8].x ), is LR making a tiff or psd rendition of the image?

Please can someone help me with this.
I look at my RAW images in Organiser and then I use the EDIT tap to move to the RAW IMAGE edit section with the image I want to edit.
After I have edited the image- I move the image back to the main EDIT screen and then save as a Jpeg File in another folder.
The problem I am having is, when I then go back to the Organiser, I cant open the unedited original RAW image again, not sure why this is?
although I can see a small thamb-nail of the image it does not open but keeps on searching.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

To be sure I understand your workflow, I'll put it in my own words...
    - You select a raw file in the Organizer, and you choose to edit it in full edit/expert mode (that depends on the PSE version).
    - The file opens in the specific dialog panel of ACR, with its typical sliders
    - When you have done your edits there, you can either be satisfied with them (case 1) or want to do further editing in the PSE editor with layers or other tools (case 2)
    - case 1  - you simply click 'Done' and you are back in the organizer. The thumbnail is updated to show the edits.
    - case 2 - You click 'Open' and the file opens in the normal editor mode of PSE. You do further edits, and you save the result in the format and the folder you want. When you close the image in the editor, you get back to the Organizer. If you have set your 'save as'  with the right checkbox, the new jpeg is stored in the the Catalog as a version set.
Your problem seems to be that once you have edited your original raw file, you don't see it in its original state without the edits ?
If so, in the bar just under the tabs, you have a menu on the right (4 bars icon). You just set the choice to camera raw defaults, and you are shown the original raw image without your edits. Note that if you choose 'Shift + Open', you open a new copy without changing the previous settings saved in the xmp sidecar file.

  • Is precise image editing possible in Contribute?

I designed a site for a client and gave them a guide with
precise instructions for the sizes of images in different layouts.
The problem is, Contribute doesn't seem to allow for *precise*
image editing. For instance, I have a layout which uses graphics at
106x106 pixels. The client has photos from a digital camera that
they need to crop/resize to go into this layout. I can resize the
shorter dimension to 106 by entering a number in the toolbar.
Theoretically, I should then be able to simply crop the image to
106 in the other dimension. But as far as I can tell, there is no
way to crop something numerically, and the width/height fields do
not change dynamically as I move the crop window. So the only way
to do it is visually, by trial and error. Which means I shave off
enough that it's close, and then try to count the pixels as I move
the crop window, and hope I haven't moved it two pixels in one
move, or its UNDO and try again.
A related issue: is there any way for the Contribute user to
change the dpi of an image? They often shoot photos at a higher dpi
for using in print, and it would be nice if they could reduce these
photos to 72dpi in Contribute. The whole point of my recommending
Contribute was so they could update their own webpages just using
this program. If they have to call me to modify images, or purchase
a separate piece of software just to crop/resize images adequately,
then that really defeats the purpose of their using
    Contribute.

Thanks for posting this. I'd not discovered the right-click
menu that allows for cropping, rotating, etc. This seems a very
    useful feature.
Having found it I thought I'd see if I can find a way to do
what you're looking for, but unfortunately I can't find any way to
set the crop width and height either. I suspect that without an
external application, such as Fireworks (pay) or Gimp (free),
you'll not be able to crop the image to a specific size other than
through the trial and error approach you're using.
Also, I could find no way to reduce the DPI of an image, but
to be honest this doesn't surprise me, as this is more of an
advanced feature and Macromedia sell a product capable of this. You
did mention that you recommended Contribute so your client could
update their own web pages, and while graphics are included within
a web page, they are separate files and for the most part will
require a separate application to update them.
My suggestion would be to get a separate application for the
image, but you're not limited to purchasing one. One pretty good,
and FREE, editor is Pixel Editor (
    http://www.iconempire.com/pixel-editor/index.htm)
which should be fine for reducing DPI and cropping, as well as a
host of other features. You could also try GIMP for Windows (
    http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net
    - an open-source product), which is also free and very well
respected in the open-source community. However, both these will
require your client learning a new product, so I concede to your
initial point of kind of defeating the point of using Contribute,
except that you'd be hard pressed to find a similar product to
Contribute for web page design that include the feature you're
    needing.
Hope this helps, even a little.

  • Image editing and type

Hope this is probably quite straightforward. First of all,
when you use Captivate to record your screenshots automatically, am
I right in thinking that these images are not stored anywhere as
individual files? Secondly, if you want to edit the images, what is
the best way to take them out and replace them within your
presentation, and should the replaced file be a .bmp or .gif - or
    something else?
To confirm the image replacement, all of my images are
'background' so i've currently used the 'Copy Background' command
and pasted into Photoshop. Now i've completed my image editing what
type of file should I save as and how do I get that to be the new
    background in the relevant slide?
    Thanks,
    Richard.

I often use Copy Background, paste into Photoshop, make
    edits, flatten,
save as Index (8bit), copy, Paste as Background.
I've not had a problem with unreasonable file sizes with that
    method,
but should I, will just save the bmp then import into the CP
    project.

  • Can't export images edited with external editor

Images edited within iPhoto '11 export to the desktop without a problem but images that have been edited with an external editor (Photoshop CS4) will not export. The following dialog come up:
    Exporting...
    Unable to create /Users/<name>/Desktop/
    Cancel
Don't know if this has any bearing but the problem is on my wife's iMac, not my MacPro.
Any clues to the source of the problem will be appreciated.

Thanks TD for your input. While I could not get the rebuild to work (it would show 97% done then hang up), it helped me isolate the problem. I ended up deleting all the images that were edited by PS CS4 then tried to do the rebuild again. Still no luck. I then opened the file sans the edited PS images and it worked.
I then edited one of the images using PS CS4 as the external editor and that worked. I then exported the image to the desktop and that also worked. The only think I can think of is that the original edits were done in iPhoto 9.0 and I have since updated it to 9.1. Whatever - it works and the only loss were some edits on a dozen or so family candid shots.
Your help in getting me headed is most appreciated.

  • Fireworks image editing palette not responding

Image editing palette does not respond. I need to go to the filters menu at the top of the page to sharpen etc. I notice that this is a flash-driven panel.
Adobe need to work on it anyway because it is absolutely infuriating that the adjustment dialogs pop up right in the centre of the screen (usually where most people want to see their changes previewed).
Anyhow, the dialog is an annoyance, but the palette not working is a fault/bug worthy of immediate attention unless anyone knows a fix.
    I am using Fireworks 11.1.0.205

    Hi Neil,
I had the same issue as you; the 'Image Editing' panel was not responding. I figured out that the problem was with Flash. I quitted Fireworks, downloaded the newest version of Adobe Flash Player, installed it, then restarted Fireworks. All of a sudden the 'Image Editing' panel was responding and working again. Problem solved...
I'm glad I found a solution. I really like Fireworks because it improves my workflow for webdesign and fastens development time after the design is finished BUT I'm really not happy with the huge amount of bugs this piece of software has...

When you export the sliced graphics from Fireworks it places
    them into a
table. In my instance the code says...
    <!-- fwtable fwsrc="Brands.png" fwpage="Page 1"

  • Benefit of diff nVidia cards f still image editing

    All,
I searched a lot for "GTX 260" and "nVidia" and found manydiscussions focused on video, but I am building an i7 machine to do still-image editing in CS4. The right GPU card purchase seems to be a GTX260 from some good manufacturer. However, I am writing to confirm that CS4 users are convinced they get a real benefit from the 260 or feel that they should be using a 285-level card.
I rejected the Quadro. I found a GTX260 from Gigabyte (who makes the mobo I will build with) is $220 w 890+GIG RAM . Good deal, it seems.
Are the drivers OK? Work OK for folks out there?

I am using an Nvidea 9600 GT OCX, Win 7 64 o intel DP55k mobo,
512 and seem to have a possible issue with artifacting in ACR 5.6.
You can see my post in camera raw postings, 157221.
I haave updated the driver to the newest version, and seem to ber
having less of an occurence of the problem. I have started using my
Lightroom 2.3 for raw processing, then I move the edit over to PS.
I did not have any issues with graphics until the 5.6 ACR was released,
so I suspect you wouldn't either. Good luck with your build. I did read
good things about the 285, and the price is good, though be sure the
mobo from gigabyte has the extra sacrificial slot as the card will
cover the adjacent pci-e. I have found, as I still image only, that the 512 is
more than adaquete for onboard open GL etc. I use Genuine Fractals 6,
and did a 500% blow up which took less than 2 seconds

  • Free Image Editing software other than AW??

    Hi
I've got an Intel MacMini and AppleWorks is simply not working well at all. I can't transform images in paint. I tried the "clicking off" trick from the document in the knowledge base -- that gets the boxes up but I still cant resize.
From reading this forum it seems there are no fixes for this problem.
Was hoping someone could suggest some free software I could download to edit images. Something like Photoshop, but maybe with a few less bells.
    Thanks for the help

Take a look in Made4Mac. Click the Apple tab above, then the Made4Mac link in the row below the tabs.
In the Software list, click Design & Print.
Select the Image editing radio button, and set the License type to Freeware.
You'll get a list of half a dozen or more, most of them Universal binary.
    This one looks promising:
GIMPShop is a free Open Source image editor that is similar to the popular Adobe Photoshop. Specifically GIMPShop is a version of the GIMP that has been edited to be more user-friendly for Photoshop users.
There's a link to the GIMPShop site in its Made$Mac entry.
    Regards,
    Barry
