PSE 9 install on Windows 7 (32 bit) fails due to "shared technologies"

I'm installing this older version of elements because it came bundled with an Epson scanner that I just purchased.
The install works fine on other computers running Windows 7.
My computer also has the following Adobe products loaded:
Acrobat Pro 9
Acrobat Reader 11
Contribute CS4 (and associated apps like Bridge CS4)
How can I find out what is stopping the "shared technologies" part of the installation to fail?
This happens way at the end of the installation. Everything is installed but then gets rolled back when the shared technologies failure occurs.

See if any of the solutions here help:

  • What a victory: failed installs due to "shared technology" errors returns endless threads via Google

I purchased PSE 10 (download) and lit up an install. It failed. I searched Google and oddly, the moment I hit the terms "photoshop elements 10 install fail" I got 40-50 results for "shared technology" failures. You guys are failure stars!
By the way, I cannot thank you enough for wasting my day like this. Back in the old days one had to visit microsoft.com to waste an entire ******** day trying to get their poorly engineered product installed, after it's failed endlessly to do as expected. Bill would be proud, if he weren't busy out there earning billions of dollars by giving away millions...which is nicer than what I have to say about you right now. Who needs time with their kids? Install PSE!!! It's a great time soak!
So, with that, I beg of you to please start sending me the usual asinine, nonworking fixes-in-a-box to get this product installed on my machine, even though we both know it won't work. Meanwhile, I have purchased downloaded, installed, and started using the Corel's latest version of PSP, which nearly FLEW into my hard drive and immediately worked right out of the box. Boy, they suck, huh? No. They don't. You do.
I've followed the hilariously funny and equally useless advice on your help forums (my favorite: " If you are using a downloaded installer, or running the installation from the hard drive, the Shared Technologies can fail because of the installation path. Copy the installation files to a folder to the root of the drive." Really? So you're saying "to install this stupid product, first you must fix our stupid mistake." Love you. Truly, I do.) and nothing has worked. I assume you will end up pointing at Microsoft and calling them bad, since every other app on my computer works without this moronic, yet remarkably popular, failure.
And even if we get this (endlessly) failed implementation to work - emphasis on IF - I will probably de-install it and demand a refund, depending on whether PSP has their product up to par, which is far more likely than Adobe having a working fix.
Now, I will say for the record that I have been harsh, and snide, and nasty. I am tired, and frustrated, and it's been four hours, and I have had enough. Having said that, deal with it. I am your customer (for the moment). Why do I need to ask you to make your product work? Isn't that the point? Is it? Helloooo?

It has occurred to me that Adobe's support people may be cowards. Then again, I am being a jerk, and it's probable they may have read my comments and said "screw this guy." I might say that. Then again, if I worked for a world-class company like Adobe I might step up and defend my product.
Then again, I might not, because they fell off the tracks some time ago and failed to stay in sync with the technologies they need to work with (read: Microsoft) to the degree they have Google reflecting:
a.) Adobe's level of failure in compatibility given the immediate and numerous responses to the simple keywords "elements fail" returning an astonishing number of responses (mine at the top lately) and...
b.) Adobe's own technical staff offering roughly a dozen differing, non-working fixes to the issue and...
c.) Adobe's studied and intentional avoidance of my emails, this thread, and hilariously worthless chat support.
It is very likely the source of the issue is an administrator profile glitch on the MS side, or perhaps an MSI issue, but good luck getting that clarified from Adobe.
    They!
    Don't!!
    Know!!!
And they don't care. All I can say about that is I am glad I only dropped sixty-odd bucks on this product rather than seven-odd hundred for CS6. Maybe I'd get support if I had, but these snotty threads would be YouTubed, Reddited, and published in the local paper.
Next: there has been a breakthrough! An amazing breakthrough!
Among the many useless and stupid bits of advice Adobe's staff throw around on the support site, there is a great recommendation to try to load the product in safe mode. Last night I booted into safe mode and tried to run the installer, which of course immediately popped a dialog box stating it couldn't run in safe mode, so there's Adobe's great advice for you. While I was laughing and taking screen shots for posterity I glanced at my desktop, and there it was: the Photoshop Elements 10 icon. What are you doing there? I double clicked, and viola! It was loaded all along! Opened right up with that blue screen with a thousand names of the dev team.
Wait. What? I thought it rolled back? It SAID it rolled back the install. No? That 5 minutes it spends “rolling back” it just pretends to roll back, deletes the icon, leaving my computer polluted with a product I already got a refund on from Amazon? Really?
Anyway I rebooted back into my normal state and lo and behold, the PSE 10 icon is still there on my desktop. It did not install from safe mode. It had been installed from the beginning, and for whatever reason booting into safe mode and rebooting back seems to fix whatever idiotic and mindless failure Adobe built into this thing which they couldn't otherwise help me fix. Plain reboots did not do this: only booting into and back out of safe mode.
Thinking I was imagining things, I got up this morning and checked. Yep. There it is on my desktop, working as if it had been there all along and I hadn't been ignored, avoided, led astray, given stupid advice, or sold a product that clearly wasn't ready for sale. PSE 10. Working. Seemingly fully functional. Glory be.
Now, since I am the one who fixed it, I was thinking Adobe should pay me. I spent about 10 hours fuming over this thing, and I bill $65 an hour as a consultant. I realize that I am not an Adobe coder or support specialist, but I fixed it and should be compensated for my time at my rate. A bonus is in order as well - call it pain and suffering. 10X$65 plus a little sweetener, let's call it a thousand bucks. What do you say, Adobe? Are you going to award my ingeniousness and brilliance? You couldn't handle it, and still can't, but I did it. Me. The bitchy, whiny one infesting your support board with angry hate. You owe me.
Yeah, I didn’t think so. Anyway, I have always liked PSE and have used past versions to great success. I think I will like PSE10 just as much, regardless the fact my view of Adobe is that much dimmer for the shamefully bad experience of late. This has been a pretty sucky couple of days, and from the boards and complaints I have found out it's the exception rather than the rule, but exceptional nonetheless.
Now I shall screenshot this thread and publish it everywhere I can find a place for it. I will call out the responses I received from Adobe (none) and the great support I received from Adobe (none) and the quality service I received from Adobe (none). Then I will do my level best to remember what the heck I was doing that made me want to buy PSE in the first place: there was a photo of...something, and I wanted to...do something. What was it? I've spent so much time in Adobe FailShop I have forgotten what I was doing here in this bottomless abyss of fail...
Ta taa, Adobe Support. Love you, really I do. True story.

  • When installing Premiere Elements I get an error with Shared Technologies

When installing Premiere Elements onto a Windows XP Service Pak 3, I get an error with Shared Technologies.

    Hi,
    Thx for the reply.
I had Bridge open in background and once I closed that Elements installed correctly.
    Thank you.

  • PSE 12 Does not complete install due to shared technologies install failed.

    Hello,
I have been reading and searching on this topic for several hours now.  I have tried most strategies to address this issue to no avail.  Here is what I have tried:
    Renamed the OOBE file.
Moved the install folder to the root directory.
    Installed the Adobe program manager.
Used selective startup to eliminate extraneous running programs.
    Uninstalled all Adobe programs.
Ran the install as an administrator.
    Disabled antivirus
Attempted to review install logs.  There was no insightful data there.
I have run out of ideas to get this program to work.
I bought this as the Photoshop/Premier 12 pack.  I am using a Pentium I7 machine with 8gig Ram with Windows 7 64 bit as the OS.
    Thanks!

  • OBIEE 11g 64-bit install on Windows 64-bit

I wanted to solicit any experiences that the user forum is having with installing 11g on a 64-bit Windows platform. I understand that the Admintool/Job Manager will not run with the 64-bit installation package but we can install the newly released Client install to circumvent this. I am seeing many forums out there in which the 64-bit OBIEE install is done as Simple or Enterprise. My understanding is that this is useless as the bundled WebLogic utilizes at 32-bit JVM. There is a Doc ID out on Metalink (ID 1220564.1) that states one can only do a Software Install. So we have proceeded with the following steps of downloading first the Java 64-bit JVM, then a WebLogic instance utilizing the 64-bit JVM (java -D64 -jar xxx.jar) and finally the OBIEE Software Only install.
The issue we are running into is that the Install fails when attempting to start the OPMN. So during the install the "Executing:opmnctl start coreapplication_obips1
" fails and references the OPMN not starting. We are unable to start the OPMN service as well. We have a static IP, so this not the known issue with the loopback adapter. The other issue I saw was having to install the VC++ 2005 SP1 libraries per another Metalink Doc ID (1226254.1). This was all done, however, the install continues to fail.
It seems the lack of knowledge from support as well as the vague/lack of documentation is frustrating. I just wanted to ping the OTN community around this scenario.

Thanks Paul, really appreciate the update. Spent this morning rebuilding our environment with 64-bit (Win 2008) and starting from scratch. The install has now succeeded. I tell you one thing you pointed out is something we noticed when we proceeded with the second install. That was the WebLogic version. I had initially used .4 and on the second install we used .3. I am guessing that this may have been the issue.
I will verify with our Oracle resources and I hope this post will assist other when doing the 64-bit install as I think it is very vague in the documentation.
I will update the post with Oracles response as well.
Just as an FYI... the reason this issue came up in the first place was we did an Enteprise Install on 64-bit and found that the Gauge Charts weren't working in the SampleAppLite Subject Area. So I will add that to the Tags for this post.
Hope this post helps others and they don't go through the headaches of a wrong install type.

  • ITunes Rolldback During Install On  Windows 64 Bit

Just upgraded my machine to 64 Bit Windows Ultimate and am trying to install the 64 bit version of iTunes, each time I try it gets to copying files before it rollsback and says iTunes could not be installed at this time. I have tried removing all traces of the files and directories and installing in other directories but I am having no luck installing the program

    @GuardianOfLight,
Yes, this Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) problem is what I've been talking with Apple Support on since 4/1/10. Basically, AMDS is not being installed and there is no way to install it individually.
From before I contacted Apple Support and since then, I would say that I've done about 6 complete uninstalls and re-installs including creating installation log files. From the log file, which is thousands of lines long, I have identified (and told Apple) that netaapl64.inf is either missing or in the wrong format in the iTunes 64-bit installation. It is one of the files needed for AMDS installation and when the iTunes Install fails to open it, the AMDS installation part of the iTunes 64-bit install is backed out.
Apple Support will be reviewing all the info that I've provided early this week. They've been kind of busy with the iPad
I'll post an update (hopefully, a solution) as soon as I have that.

  • ATG v10 install on windows 7 -  "NucleusServlet" failed to preload on start

Installed ATG v10 on Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g (weblogic server 11g R1) on a windows 7 64bit machine.
According to ATG install docs the application should be deployed to Application server during installation process - this does not seem to have taken place.
When I attempt to deploy demo (QuincyFunds.Ear) manually through admin console - the deployment process shows as failed (Exception below).
This is my first time attempting this install and not familiar with ATG platform, can someone recommend any solution to this or knows if there is a known compatibility issue with Windows 7 or Weblogic 11g R1?
[HTTP:101216]Servlet: "NucleusServlet" failed to preload on startup in Web application: "QuincyFunds". java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: atg/nucleus/servlet/NucleusServletResourceBundle at atg.nucleus.servlet.NucleusServlet.<clinit>(NucleusServlet.java:123) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(DelegatingConstructorAccessorImpl.java:27) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:513) at java.lang.Class.newInstance0(Class.java:355) at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Class.java:308) at weblogic.servlet.internal.WebComponentContributor.getNewInstance(WebComponentContributor.java:225) at

Not sure why the demo didn't install when you installed the product but I've seen reports of people having problems with that in the past. Either way, you need to do a couple of things to get this working.
First and most important, you can't just install any EAR into WL and get ATG running (e.g. you can't take the Quincy Funds ear file and run it). You need to first assemble an "ATG Ear" which basically includes all the necessary libraries, ears, wars, into a single large ear (sometimes referred to as Big Ear) that can then be deployed to any (supported) app server. You do this with the runAssembler command which is documented in the Install and Configuration guide.
I think after that step, you would need to configure a WL datasource for the ATG default database Solid so that ATG can connect to it (since it uses the app server's datasources). You can configure a different database (Oracle for example) but then you also need to import the data into it and that gets a bit more complicated.
There may be other things that I missed but if you get an error, you can check and see if its been reported before on the ATG Community (https://community.atg.com). You can't post new questions there but you may find a resolution to your problem. If you are an ATG customer, you can also contact ATG Support, but it sounds like you may need to read through the docs and wrap your head around what ATG is and does.

  • Re-install on Windows 8.1 fails (error 1624)

In March 2012 I installed PSE v10 on my laptop (Windows XP Pro SP3); through download. Because XP will soon not be supported with safety updates any longer, I installed Windows 8.1 (clean installation after backup of the data files) on the same laptop.
After  restoring the install directory from this backup it turns out that the SETUP.EXE returns -- soon after having provided the serial number -  an error starting with:
"Server returned unexpected error 1624 attempting to ..."
    Please help.
    Regards - Jan

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the tip, but ... unfortunately no succes with that utility: no problems found.
After that I searched the register for "elements 10" --> no entries found! Please remember that I did a clean install of win8.1 and then I restored the complete directory with the installation files of PSE 10 --> double clicked SETUP>EXE --> the error message(s).
What do you think? Maybe there is a link somewhere to PSE 10 on the Adobe site and start from scatch?
    { In the mean time (yesterday) I installed PSE 12_30day_trial_version, because I needed a PSE feature urgently. }

  • T440s windows 10 upgrade failed due to lack of Lenovo driver for ac-7260

Anyone know when or where Lenovo will release / has released a windows 10 compatible driver for the Intel Wireless ac-7260 wifi adapter (mine is in my T440S)? Currently it's not possible to upgrade because the wifi adapter fails to operate correctly and I can find no update from Lenovo for my notebook and the ac-7260 adapter on the site that supports windows 10.     I also tried the Intel "generic" drivers but that failed to resolve the problem. I tried many things and just could not get it to work for many different reasons that all boiled down to the adapter driver failing to work and giving errors or simply not working at all. Now  that Windows 10 is released surely Lenovo has an adapter driver somewhere for it?

RESOLVED: Turns out I had an "Array networks" SSL VPN client installed as part of my Softlayer ISP's remote desktop package, not Cisco at all but caused the same exact problem. I had to uninstall it completely and have since found out it doesn't work at all with Windows 10 and there is no timeframe to have it updated and Array networks or maybe just Softlayer apparently haven't gone out of their way to inform the public. Thank you guys for your help and I hope others in future will benefit from this post.

I have added a SSD to my hp pavilion 500-417NG and want to install Windows 7 64Bit incl. SP1 to the SSD.
I'm using an USB stick to boot Win 7 setup.

What is the content of 'SAPUSER.log'?

  • Help with installation problems for PE 12; error while installing Shared Technologies. Suggestions?

Help. I've tried to install PE12 multiple times without success due to shared technology installation failure. The install gets right to the end and then fails when trying to launch and uninstalls. Per the help suggestions, I downloaded the ASA, which identified no problems.
    Very frustrating.
Any suggestions for someone who is not too tech savvy?
    Thanks.

In Windows what has always worked for me is ending any already running PSE/PRE processes from previous or current versions - look for anything with 'Elements' in the name, and 'dynamiclinkmanager.exe'. Then I run the setup program by right-clicking and selecting 'Run as Administrator'. This runs the setup program with even higher privileges than a user account with Administrator privileges.
    Cheers,
    Neale
