PSE 9 Locking Up while Creating DVD/Slideshows

I recently installed PSE9 (& Premier).  Everything seemed to work fine.  I have been editing a few photos and even created a video DVD.  All of a sudden, each time I try to create a new product (slideshow, dvd, greeting card) PSE9 locks up.  Sometimes have to go to task manager to close the program others I can close it directly in PSE after waiting a few minutes, however it will not move forward trying to create a dvd or slideshow.  I can still edit without any problems, I just can't create a the DVD/Slideshows.
Any ideas?  I am new to PSE so I am hopeful I can "reset" something.
Any and all help appreciated.

I forgot to mention...I am running windows / vista if this matters.
Thanks,

  • How do I create DVD slideshow for TV?

I received a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 with a Epson Scanner.  I want to make a basic DVD slide show (interactive) that can be viewed on  a TV.  I do not need audio or any other options.  The program said I would have to upgrade to Adobe Premier Element to do that, but when I checked the specs on Adobe Premier Elements 11, It did not give any indication that I could do that.  Everything appeared to be for video and adding a multitude of options (that I do not want or need).  What do I need to make a basic DVD slide show for TV?

Have you looked at Delete and Close Gap as well as Delete for what you describe?
Nonetheless, adding or moving clips to an existing Timeline content without disturbing the existing Timeline content can be challenging and complex under certain scenarios.
Typical solutions include making these moves with a keyboard modified held down (Windows Alt or Ctr). I am strictly an Elements Windows user, so we will need to find the Mac counterparts for the Windows keyboard modifier techniques.
Also, if one move triggers a multi-chain disaster, then you should consider grouping block of clips so that they do not move while you are busy with your Timeline maneuvers. Check out the Clip Menu options for Group and Ungroup.
Some times in the "Mac condition", you need to use fn in addition to the command to achieve some of these Windows counterparts.
The following video tutorial on arranging clips and keyboard modifiers is being posted for informational non promotional reasons.
Premiere Elements: Arranging clips on the Timeline using modifier keys | lynda.com - YouTube
It is demo'd with Premiere Elements 8, but the principles are the same for later versions of the program.
Here is one variation of the issue on Windows.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE: Delete and Close Gap Failures
You should not have to delete audio to prevent it from being split by an addition to an existing Timeline. The keyboard modifiers should help you resolve this type of issue.

  • How do I create my own favorite template for DVD slideshows? I used to be able to select this from pulldown menu, but cannot now do so. I am directed straight to templates, which take more memory. I have a large slideshow, and need all the space I can get

First, how do I create my own favorite theme template for DVD slideshows? I used to be able to select this from pulldown menu, but cannot now do so. I am directed straight to already existing themes, which take more memory. I have a large slideshow, and need all the space I can get. I just want to use a picture as my DVD cover, and then insert a slideshow. Also, when I try to burn my 8.5gb double sided slideshow, all that burns is the music. It is a large slideshow, a memorial on the life of my now deceased brother. This means a lot to me and to my family, and I am having so much trouble trying to burn it. I have gone into Project View and selected appropriately. The bar shows I have room to burn this DVD, but it does not burn.  I have burned so many DVDs in the past, but this one just will not burn. I am so confused at this point. I will say this is the first 8.5gb I have attempted to create and burn. My specs list a 7.7gb or 4.7gb as operable....but there are no 7.7gb dvds. I had to purchase 8.5gb. Help? What am I doing wrong? I have spent so much time on this, and just cannot figure it out.

Final Cut is a separate, higher end video editor.  The pro version of iMovie.
Give iPhoto a look at for creating the slideshow.  It's easy to assemble the photos in an album in iPhoto, put them in the order you want and then make a slideshow of them.  You can select from various themes and transitions between slides and add music from your iTunes library.
When you have the slidshow as you want use the Export button at the bottom of the iPhoto window and export with Size = Medium or Large.
Save the resulting Quicktime movie file in your Movies folder.
Next, open iDVD, choose your theme and drag the QT movie file into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Then follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The reason I suggest iPhoto is that I find it much easier to use than iMovie (except for the older iMovie 6 HD version).  Personal preferences showing here.

  • I have created a slideshow using i Photo. How do I burn it to disc so that I can play it on my DVD?

I have created a slideshow using i Photo.
How do I burn it to disc to play on a DVD.
    I cannot access i DVD.
    Is this the problem?
I have exported the slideshow as a movie quick time file.
    What do I do next???

If your Mac is a new one, like mine, then it comes with a version of iLife that doesn't have iDVD and if so, there isn't an easy way to burn a DVD from iPhoto or iMovie that will play on a normal DVD player.  There is quite a bit of correspondence about this, but I couldn't find a good answer, apart from this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18460085#18460085
I ended up buying (via Amazon) a boxed version of iLife11, which has all the same software I already have, but with a copy of iDVD with it.
Seems to work well with iMovie, but at the moment, my copy of iPhoto has crashed - see:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18943719#18943719
Having only just transferred from a Windows machine to a Mac, it seems incredibly arrogant for Apple to think people don't use DVD players anymore.

  • How do I create a slideshow in PSE 8.0 and share it on my website using Premiere elements 7.0.  I

I have created a slideshow in PSE 8.0 but how do I get it into Premiere Elements 7 to create a video I want to show in my website?  Do I have to buy Premiere Elements 8.0 surely ther must be a way to pass files?

Adobe is making it difficult for people who have Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 7.
If you also have Photoshop Elements 7, I suggest that in the future you consider making your slideshows in Photoshop Elements 7 because it of course does support transfer to Premiere Elements 7. Or you can make the entire slideshow in Premiere Elements 7.
The only option that I can identify for making a file of your PSE 8 slideshow is to do a WMV file from the PSE 8 slideshow output command.
This approach has the disadvantage of doing a compression in PSE to make the WMV file and then doing another compression in Premiere Elements 7 for whatever format you will use to upload to your website.

    Hi
Time needed can depend on several things.
    • less than 5 GB free space on Start-up (Mac OS) hard disk = Redicolous long times AND a DVD that most probably will not work OK
Medicine - I never go under 25GB free space
    • Use of strange file formats into iDVD - can force it to de-code first then re-encode - this can take long long times
    I use
Video - StreamingDV as from miniDV tape Cameras - or QuickTime Movies Converted to StreamingDV
    Audio - .aiff 16-bit 48 kHz - (no .mp3, .wma etc)
    • Use of old Mac - My G4 600MHz took about 24 hour per hour movie. my dG5 - about 2 hours per hour (I use Pro Quality encoding)
    • Pro Quality encoding - takes about x2 to process a movie

  • How do I create a DVD slideshow

Hello! I would like to create a DVD slideshow with pictures from over the year. I tried opening IDVD but I got an alrert message saying I wouldn't be able to burn my slideshow to a DVD on my system. Is there a way to use IPhoto for this project?
My friend created one in 5 minutes using a program on Vista Windows. I don't know why I am having a such a hard time with this. I thought Mac was supposed to be easy for this type of thing. I hope you can help me! Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your system configuration with us. You are more than up to speed on your apple laptop. There really shouldn't be any issues here.
But I guess that's why we have these forums, right?
There is a difference between making a slideshow for iDvd as opposed to sending it over the internet. The latter will normally deal in significantly reduced file sizes.
To start with your question about emailing images or rather slideshows.... I'm not at all surprised your mac is saying it's too large to email. Sending high res images over the internet will slow downloads of said image/s on the receiving end to a crawl. Unless you have G-Mail, most standard e-mail accounts will max out at about 10 MB, not to mention bandwidth limitations. That's not a whole lot of working room when sending video (as in a QT movie) or slideshows of any significant length nor high quality images. You must take every effort to keep the slideshow very short and sweet. A few images, moderately sized tends to work rather well over the internet depending on the type of connection. Hopefully you have high speed cable or DSL (because that's what it will take unless unless the person receiving the email is into waiting a few hours for a typical 56K modem).
I believe iPhoto allows you to make such a slideshow (targeted specifically for emails) and to vary its size when actually sending the email. There's an option on the bottom lower right of the email you are composing to send it as a small file size, medium, or Actual size. Actual sizes will slow things down a bit. You may also want to post this very same question to the iPhoto Forum or iWeb (or both) for more detailed info.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • How to create a CD/DVD slideshow that cab be vewed on a TV

In LightRoom/Mac can I create a slideshow that can viewed on a TV? I only see an option to export to a pdf file but that is not readable by a cd/dvd player.

I don't think that you can do this directly in Lightroom.
I like to use Lightroom in concert with the iLife tools that Apple supplies on MacOS to achieve this. I use the "File->Export" option to export the collection that I want to use for a slide show (from the Library module) as a directory of JPEG images (careful use of the file naming options will help preserve the order you want) and then import that directory into one of iMovie, iDVD or iPhoto depending on how much control I want over the slide show on the final DVD. If you use iPhoto or iMovie you will eventually need to export to iDVD to burn the disk.
Note that you give up the Lightroom Slideshow options, but iPhoto has some pretty nice slideshow facilities. Also, on the export from Lightroom, you might want to match your exported photo size to a TV like resolution (720x480 is D1 size for NTSC-DVD). This lets Lightroom take care of the scaling which generally works better.
    Hope this helps,
    Greg

  • When I use lightroom to create a slideshow the aspect ratio is wrong when i burn it to DVD.  What am i doing wrong?

I use Lightroom to create a slideshow and then export it to software to burn to DVD to play on a TV.  When i view it on a computer the pictures are fine, when i view them on the TV the aspect ration is wrong.  Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?  Thanks

The template is a document in itself, it is not applied to an existing document whether it is a Pages document or a Word document converted to a Pages document.
You would need to either copy and paste content, using existing styles, or apply the styles to the converted Word document.
You can Import the Styles from an existing document and those imported Styles can be used to override the current document's styles:
Menu > Format > Import Styles
The process is simplified if the styles use the same names, otherwise you will need to delete the style you don't want and replace it with the one that you do want when asked, then the substitution is pretty straightforward.

  • Table lock while creating index?

    Hello,
my db is oracle10g. My database is OLTP system. I wanted to create index on one of the table. The table has 200 million records.
Does it lock the entire table when i create index? I am thinking, how it impacts the regular operations in the database while creating the index?
    Any help is appreciated...

    Hi,
Do you have Enterprise Edition? If so, the online option is available to you.
    So, you can do:
    create index my_new_index on my_tab(col1,col2) online;or:
alter index my_existing_index rebuild online; If you don't use the online option, then yes, the table will be locked against updates, any OLTP traffic will serialize behinds the index maintenance operation.
    Hope that helps,
    -Mark

  • I used i-photo to create a slideshow for a 50th anniversary and was trying to download it to a dvd for viewing on a dvd player but can't seem to get the format right so that the player will recognize it.

i created a slideshow in i-photo and was having trouble creating a dvd that could be shown via a dvd player.have already done a dvd of just the pictures that worked fine, would appreciate any input on this problem

As Quicktime Kirk says: buy the retail iLife 11 disk at various online resellers (the Apple Store no longer carries it); also available at ebay.
Other than that, there is Roxio Toast - an excellent application, but costs $$. I use both Toast and iDVD. I've not used or tried any free apps; I am sure there are some - make sure it is compatible with Macs.

Make a temporary, backup copy if you don't have a backup copy of the library (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4
    Launch iPhoto and try again.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
