PSE 9 Nightmare

Sorry Adobe but downloading and installing PSE 9 has been a freaking nightmare. I needed two chat sessions to get the program downloaded. Then I find that it's a 7-Zip file that I had to get a program to extract the files. Now that I have the files extracted "setup.exe" starts and then quits without installing the program. It used to be so simple. Buy PSE, download PSE, install PSE. Why does it have to be so convoluted a process now?

Good question. If I had to guess, I'd guess it has something to do with security, but why it has to do with security is a mystery to me. I'm with you, why can't it be simple: buy PSE, download PSE, and then use PSE?

  • Need Help Organizing Actions in PSE 12

I just upgraded from PSE 10 to PSE 12 and am installing my actions, but I can find absolutely no way to organize them.  In PSE 10, there is a drop down menu on the effects panel where I have all of my actions separated into types (filters, enhancements, vignettes, etc.) so that I can just click on "vignettes" for example, and see all of my vignette actions.  Not only does PSE 12 not appear to have this option (there is no drop down menu at all), but there seems to be no way to move the actions around to organize them once they're installed.  I've tried clicking and dragging them, but they won't move.  Does anyone know any way to organize or label or rearrange them or something?  If not, it's going to be a nightmare looking for each action every time...

In the pse 12 editor, when you to Window>Effects and click on the word Effects, you don't have a drop-down menu as in the screenshot below?
Did you install the same actions as you had in pse 10, which includes the atn, .png and metadata.xml files?
    into
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\12.0\Photo Creations
    Then delete both the
    ThumbDatabase.db3 in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements
    and
    MediaDatabase.db3 in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\12.0\Locale
Then start or restart the pse 12 editor and wait for the effects data base to rebuild, which might take up to 20 minutes?

  • PSE 9 Dos not recognize NEF of D7000

I purchased a Nikon D7000 and read that PSE 8 would not recognize the NEF files for the D7000.
    So I purchased PSE 9
When bridge opens it shows the NEF thumb nails for the D7000 BUT when I load the NEF pictures the pictures are white and a drop down menu appears saying that Bridge does not recognize the file.
Bridge accepts the jPeg's from the D7000.
If PSE 9 is designed to handle the D7000 can someone verify that and let me know if I have to make any adjustments.
    Thanks
    Greg

I realize that I sounded extremely negative BUT I have had Photo Elements since 2001.
I Never had a problem with any part of the software.
To me the main reason that individuals like me get Elements is because of its ease to work with compared to PhotoShop.
Let me list the problems that I am having :
    Bridge
    (1) The thumbnails do not show the picture
    (2)  You cannot attach to an email from Bridge.
    (3)  It now lists the file by date not consecutive numbering.
I contacted Nikon and they say it is a software issue not the camera.
    Organizer :
    (1)
It takes over an hour to load a picture from Elements (after you do a PP, even a simple crop) into organizer and it renders Organizer useless during the load process.
A window drops and says "Element Organizer is currently busy and cannot process the request".
Sometimes it shows the picture and says : "edit in progress" with a Lock symbol.
If you wanted to share or do anything else in Organizer you are stuck until it transfer the picture.
    (2)
The email size has issues :
Big, medium level (slide bar with numbers) : never loads and I have to force quit Organizer and Mail
Very Big, medium level: looks like a postage stamp or never loads
Medium, any level size is Ok and what I have to use.
    (3)
When I send a picture via email from Organizer from my ATT email address after it sends it, it puts it back in my MAC mail draft box.
I have to delete it and close mail out otherwise if I only delete it, it reappears again in the draft box.
    (4)
I have not tried any of the other features, Facebook etc, Heaven only knows what else I would encounter.
    (5) Periodic crashes of Organizer while in it.
    (6)
The Notion that previously went from RAW edit to PSE for PP and the adjusted pictured stayed in Bridge or where I wanted to put it and now
Adobe decided that you need to use Bridge for RAW edit into PSE and then into another program (Organizer) is not the simplistic way it was originally designed for people like me.
    (7)
These issues occur with both RAW and jPeg files.
In the past several PSE always had a separate MAC version that came out several months after the windows version.
This time they consolidated the versions and I am concerned that this was a mistake that is leading to these issues.
I am a MAC User and bought a new DLSR Nikon D7000, Which Adobe told me that I would have to upgrade to PSE 9 to allow Adobe to work with the D7000.
I am guessing that there are too many issues here and Adobe should have check any MAC issues and issued a separate software package.
If anyone from Adobe reads these posts and gets PSE 9 to work with a combined MAC and D7000 or just corrects their issues contact me so I can use this program again as I have used for 10 years with any issues.
Otherwise I will have to after the holidays be forced to look for new software.
Again I state that PSE was the easiest software I could use and now it is a nightmare.
I decided to drag and drop out of PSE to the desktop and load them in iPhoto and email from there.
    Goodbye ORGANIZER !
    Greg
I am not going to spend hours trying all kinds of gimmicks and 10 step workarounds which as a person with limited computer skills will only get into deeper trouble.  I am already tired and frustrated spending the amount of time with this.

  • PSE 9

I feel like I've been tricked or taken or just dumb. I just upgraded from PS 6 to  PSE 9 and as far as I can see there isn't much difference between the two. I use this product for editing digital pictures and repairing old photographs only. I never expected when contacted via e-mail with the possibility to upgrade and save $20 that Adobe made three different levels of the same program. I have now  taken the test they give to suggest what software edition you should buy according your personal usage demands and it turns out I should have purchased the most expensive upgrade. If I'm only editing digital pictures and old photographs who would need to upgrade from Photo shop 6 to PSE 9? What options do I have.

Have you ever tried to get your money back from Adobe?
It's an absolute nightmare. An I'm not exaggerating when I say a nightmare!!!!!

  • PSE 11 Organiser - Top of Organiser Disappeared

I have lost the top of my PSE 11 organiser screen. I run a Mac with an external monitor. I can no longer see the resizing buttons (red, amber, green) top left, along with the folders, import option button, tag, info button etc. Its a nightmare. I have read a lot of the help forum stuff and tried different screen resolutions on my macbook pro and external monitor, nothing helps. I have rebooted several times with and without external monitor attached and nothing changes. I am pulling my hair out as I have loads of photos to process. This couldn't have happened at a worse time.
Here is a screen shot of what I currently get. I am running OS X 10.9.2.
    Can someone please help?
    Many thanks,
    Lynn

    Hi Barbara,
How do I reply to you in the thread?
I have done as you suggested by altering screen resolution to largest print and smallest several times and done it on the macbook and with the external screen attached. The top of the screen is not jumping at all. I.e. No change and I have tried it about 20 times.

  • PSE 4 improvements for "Collections"

Those who use PSE Collections and find that Collections are important, might be interested to learn about the following PSE 4 enhancements for the support of "Collections":
    1) PSE 4 supports Version Set manipulation operations, while photos are viewed as part of a Collection.
While viewing photos as part of a collection in collection order (i.e. after selecting a collection in the right part of the Organizer window in order to display all photos of that collection in collection order), it is now possible with PSE 4 to "Reveal all items/photos of a Version set" and then to use the various Version Set manipulation commands (i.e. "Revert to Original", "Remove items from Version Set", "Set as Top Item", "Convert Version Set to individual items"). This was not possoible with PSE 3.
For me, this enhancement is significant, because I perform nearly all my photo-editing activities while viewing my photos in a collection sequence, that orders/sequences the photos in such a way that similar photos are adjacent to each other.
    2) Faster re-sequencing of photos within large collections
With PSE 3 (and with PSA 1 and PSA 2), re-arranging with "Drag and Drop" the sequence of photos within a large collection was for me nearly a nightmare, when needing to move one or multiple photos to a new "distant location" within the collection (by "distant location", I mean a location that can not be shown in the same window/screen as the original location of the photos that I want to move).
With PSE 4 the drag and drop of photos within a collection to a "distant location" is much more efficient than in PSE 3 (and in PSA 2).
If I understand properly the subject: this enhancement is the result of more general PSE 4 enhacements for scrolling operations.
    3) Editing Photos that are part of a Collection
With PSE 3, when editing a photo that is part of one (or more) Collections, PSE was replacing in the Collection(s) the original version of the photo by the edited version of the photo (this is as expected and is fine) and was then adding the original version of the Photo at the beginning of the Collection(s). The collection(s) was/were then containing both the edited version and the original version of the photo (as opposed to containing only the top photo within the Version Set). After a Photo-Edit, I had to determine in which Collection(s) the edited photo was located and I had to remove manually the original version of the photos from the Collection(s). This was a pain.
With PSE 4, this problem has been fixed. After an edit, the original version of the photo is not added to the beginning of the collection.
Also, when converting a PSE 3 or PSA 2 Catalog, PSA 4 does not add the original version of edited photos that are part of a versionset to the beginning of all of the collection. This too is an enhancement over PSE.3 (and by the way: when migrating from PSA 2, also Creations are properly migrated something that PSE 3 is not doing).
These PSE 4 enhancements to the support of collections contributed to my decision to migrate to PSE 4. It is my impression that others who also like and use extensively Collections might be interested in these PSE 4 enhancements.

    Hi Barb
When I tried nearly one year ago to migrate from PSA 2 to PSE 3, I encountered the following problem with all my pre-existing Creations: the conversion process lost the information about the sequencing of the photos within the Creation. After the conversion it was up to the user to re-order the photos within the Creation. I hated it.
Also, I believe to remember (but I am not 100% sure anymore about it): for every edited photo, the converted Creation contained two versions of the photo - The Original version and the latest updated version.
After a migration from PSA 2 to PSE 4, I do not have on my PC these problems anymore. All my pre-existing Creations (they are slide-shows) have been converted without problems to PSE V4.
I am not sure to understand correctly what your following words mean "When I looked at the Photo Browser icons for some creations, they seemed to be the same pale icons".
On my PC, the color of the PSE 4 icons of the Creations are all pale blue and are all identical (i.e. the icons do not show any photo of the Creation). But the Creations are nevertheless OK.

  • PSE 7.0

I've been using PSE 2.0 for years and liked the create web photo gallery option so I can show my pictures on my web site. Just purchased PSE 7.0 and discovered the option is now gone. It's been on every version until 7.0 Serves me right for assuming it would be on there. Other than buying an older version of PSE, could anyone help me as far as a program that would create a web photo gallery. I'm sure there are many programs out there. Something inexpensive and where you don't need to have a phd to figure it out. Thanks.

And once you've uploaded the gallery to your site, how do you integrate it? I design my site locally (using Expression Web 2) and setting up links to content that isn't actually there is a nightmare. There's no way to test it without publishing, for one thing, and no Web design program is going to be able to handle metadata tracking without the content being present.
The Flash vs HTML doesn't bother me, but I have to ask, What was Adobe thinking in eliminating "save to local disk" for albums? If this is a way of forcing people to use the photoshop.com hosting site (ptuui!) I have a few choice words for Adobe.

  • Can I transfer a Raw Photo to PSE 9 with a direct link and keep changes

I have limited expertise in all of this stuff so please understand.
I recently upgraded to PSE 9 because I bought the Nikon D7000.
Unfortunately I have had nothing but nightmares with the upgrade.
PSE has eliminated BRIDGE and I can no longer open a RAW file in PSE 9 from the camera.
They have something called Organizer but the Adobe Forum is full of issues about it.
I have found it useless and it may stem from both having a MAC and the D7000.
    *Here is my question :*
I can use Nikon Transfer to Nikon View NX2 to open the RAW files.
However if I make any changes in View they do not carry over to PSE and ACR (Adobe Camera RAW)
    AND
I cannot find a way to have a direct link from View NX2 to PSE 9 and ACR.
I have to drag and drop onto the desktop and then drag and drop into PSE / ACR.
*If I purchase Aperture ($80.00) can I make changes in Aperture and then have a direct link to PSE 9 if I need to make changes or adjustments in PSE and keep the RAW changes from Aperture ?*
I hope I made my dilemma clear.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Your question pivots about several issues, each of which will bear on what you end up doing.
Briefly, what you'll find is that Aperture does its own RAW conversion (and does it well). You can follow that with either of the following:
    - use PSE9 as an external editor, in which case Aperture creates a copy of the converted RAW file in either TIFF or PSD format (you choose), sends it to PSE9, and receives the changed file back. At this point you have two images in Aperture: your converted image (with Aperture adjustments, if added) and your externally-edited image. Note that your original RAW file is never changed, and remains available.
    - using Aperture, export a copy of your RAW original, and then open it in any program you want. In this case, that program will need to be (or include) a RAW converter. And Aperture will not track the file in any way at all once it is exported.
... can I make changes in Aperture and then have a direct link to PSE 9 if I need to make changes or adjustments in PSE and ...
So that's "Yes" to the first part and ...
... and keep the RAW changes from Aperture ?
... I'm not sure what you mean to specify in this part.

  • Should I uninstall PSE Ver 9 before installing PSE Ver 12 retail pack?

MY laptop came with PSE Ver 9 preloaded.
I have bought the discs for PSE Ver 12 ( Photoshop and Premier Elements ) In Amazon.
Should I uninstall Version 9 using the Program Features Uninstall routine. BEFORE loading Ver 12?

    THanks Barbara
interested when you say missing features, that can be copied over?
Is  there any Performance degredation associated with leaving a redundant program there.? Ie will the unused program slow down ver 12? Eg will it clog up shared services etc.
or more likely, ( after my nightmare trying to load PSE VER 12,  when it had to be uninstalled - it eventually took one of their top technicians 3.5 hours of manual clean up) is there a bigger risk in uninstalling ver 9.
In light how badly Version 12 uninstalls is this a nightmare too?
my preference is to go for ultimate performance over a few aextra features.
I Got more than I need atm lol!

  • Restore catalogu nightmare

Nightmare trying to restore catalog with >40,000 items on new computer.
I am running PSE 12 on a PC with Windows 7.
I have just replaced two disks on my old PC and am trying to restore my latest catalog.
When I ask it to restore to the original location it says it is not able to do that because one or more drives do not match.
    I do not understand this.
I have all my photos on drive D:\ as was the case with the old PC.
They are located across many different folders on drive D:\, and I have restored the photos to their original locations.
I have a backup of the catalog on a drive L:\ and it is this backup I am trying to restore.
I assume that “original locations” refers to the original folders on the D:\ drive.
Please help me! I am despairing. I have more than 40 thousand items carefully tagged etc over the last 8 years at least. I have previously managed to do a restore on changing machines OK.
Could it be because I restored the photos to their original locations before restoring the catalog?
I also have a backup of the latest catalog file (without the photos), but was unable to use that either. It seemed to be pointing to places where the photos are not kept like on a backup drive etc. Going nuts here.

If you have chanded disks, the Organizer finds it because it does not only store the drive letter, it also uses the serial number of the disk. That is useful because external drives can be assigned different letters when plugged in the computer.
I have a backup of the catalog on a drive L:\ and it is this backup I am trying to restore.

Yes, "original locations" means to the same exact drive and folder structure. This is used to restore after various software problems to go back to the previous situation.
Your 'restore' process should be on 'custom location' pointing to the new physical drive. With the organizer restore, you restore both the picture files and the catalog, you don't need to copy your file structure separately.
I also have a backup of the latest catalog file (without the photos), but was unable to use that either. It seemed to be pointing to places where the photos are not kept like on a backup drive etc. Going nuts here.
Is it a copy of your catalog folder, or simply of the database file, catalog.pse12db ?
You can copy of move that folder where you want, but the contents will not be changed, it will still point to the old drive.
You should try to restore from your backup file on custom location first.
Having a copy of your catalog may be used if other methods fail, but you'll have to 'reconnect' all your library, which is not easy with  40 000 items...

  • Total Nightmare with PSE9 Slideshow

Help !!, I've had a nightmare all day, I have PSE9 and did a very good slideshow which took a couple of hours, with the intention of burning to DVD so that my neices 3 years old could see her holiday pics etc, which "should" be an easy task, but it's not, clicking dvd with menu an info bar comes up with install from dvd, download trial or cancel, so I downloaded the trial for premiere elements 13 and still cannot creat a dvd ?,  I've gone into premiere elements 13 and have got nowhere fast, I've spent most of the day trying to get my creation on a dvd, and have got to the stage where I am seriously considering uninstalling PSE9 , becuase I don't see a point of having a product where you cannot save the pse creation to dvd.    I've tried goind thru windows dvd maker and proshow all with no luck, even when converting to wmv.   The other very annoying feature is while previewing a few slides in PE13, there is a copyright (trial version) across the frame.
You'd have thought PS9 and PE13 would communicate together, why can't pse9 detect that I do have PE13 installed ?.
And help would be greatly appreciated, as I am well and trully miffed at how Adobe have made such an easy process into the hardest.

i agree this is a nightmare. apparently rumour has it, probably started by apple, that if one does a complete fresh install rather than an upgrade., all works fine.., but this is not an answer to anything that relates to those of us who 'updated..,' when does the next update come that is supposed to fix this.., or are we suppsed with it and pretend its not there.., or better, do we bow down at actually being honoured by our purchas of FCP 2.
    what a mess.

  • PSE icons instead of the photo. I need to view photos at a glance. Please help me????

Please help, this is driving me crazy.  I have downloaded my free PSE #9, it came with my Leica Camera.  I cannot view at a glance any of my photos.  There is only an icon that reads, PSE.  To view any of my photos, I must click select and then preview.  This gets old, and I am doing 4 times the work. I am having to use the dates to guess where my photos might be.  I hate this!  My old Photo Shop #5 didn't do this.  When you went to my pictures, you could see every photo.
I have tried the right click and open as any program.  What ever program I choose, that is the icon that appears.  No photo. Still no good.
    Please help.
    Thanking anyone in advance,
    Leica

    Hi,
Are you using Windows Explorer to view the files?
If so, load Explorer, go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
Click on the View tab and make sure the first option (Always show icons, never thumbnails) is not checked.
Click on OK and see if that is any better.

  • Opening animated gif in PSE 8 for Mac

I am switching from PSE for PC to PSE 8 for Mac.
I have always been able to open animated gif as layers and work with them, then resave as an updated animated gif.
WIth PSE 8 for Mac, I get a pop up that the file is animated and can only see the top frame. Any ideas on how to open up all of the frames in layers?

Do I need to enable this process for my Mac? Maybe I'm missing a plug-in or update?
I have been opening these files from others, tweeking and resaving for almost 2 years in PSE. It definitely will not shuffle the individual panels on an animated gif into the layers box.
My tweeking usually involves adjusting frame speed. Is that what you mean by 'frame rate'?
    Thank you for your help.

  • IPod Touch 2G No Longer Sees Photoshop Elements (PSE) Album Photos

    Hello Forum,
All was working fine. I would create an album in PSE 7 on Win XP, my iPod Touch would see the album and all the photos in that album, successful sync, and copies of the photos would be stored on my iPod Touch.
Then for data security and redundancy, I relocated my My Documents folder to a network RAID disk array. My Music and My Photos folders therefore also got relocated. After fixing some paths iTunes works fine, and PSE 7 also works fine. PSE 7 albums are completely intact and accessible from the network share.
BUT, when I go to sync my iPod Touch with PSE7, the iPod sees all the PSE album names in iTunes, but says that each album has exactly 0 photos. So now my iPod has no photos. Please help me fix this problem.
One other thing, if I point my iPod at a specific photo folder on the network share, and tell it to sync to this folder, the photos in the folder move to the iPod with no problems. But I don't want to have to create photo copies in new folders just to sync with the iPod; the PSE Album concept is perfect, if it would only work now!
    Thanks, Ken

I've had exactly the same issue with my iPhone 3GS and iTunes 10.4.  I reported it to Apple and was told it was likely an error that crept into 10.4 and to expect a fix in an upcoming release of iTunes.  I'm waiting for that to happen still...
