  • PSE 9 Very Slow with Large Catalogs!!!!!

I have used PSE since v3.  Starting with verison 8.0, performance has gotten much worse.  PSE 9 is especially bad in folder view, and takes a long time to switch to full screen view (F11): ~13 seconds.  And this is on a very fast computer.
I have auto analyzer and tagging turned off.  I've repaired and optimized my catalog.  I actually recreated my catalog from scratch (huge pain) thinking perhaps there was an issue with my prior (converted) catalog.  Nothing helped. Based on other posts, it seems it's simply a function of the program and is a well known problem.  I'm extremely disappointed that such a fundamental issue wasnt resolved in PSE 9 after experiencing it in PSE 8.
When I first installed PSE 9, switching to full screen was actually fast, but i think that is before all the thumbnails were created.  It seems that as the thumbs cache grows, the performance gets much worse.  I typically work in folder view, so i'm only looking to do full screen of the contents in the folder (typically less than 100 pix) - however, it doesn't seem to matter how many photos are in the folder - switching to full screen still takes more than 13 seconds.
I like the program overall, but this is getting ridiculous.  I know PSE isn't Adobe's 'core' product, but this is a prosumer product and should at least be usable.
Come on Adobe - get this fixed!!!!!  Stop worrying about the flashy features, and fix the basics (folder view and full screen switching)!!!!!
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
    Specs:
    - catalog has ~23k pictures; 30 albums
    - computer is a quad core 3.0 ghz; 8gb ram, raid striped hard drive, high end graphics card, running win 7 x64
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • IMac very slow esp. in Photoshop, has corrupted fonts

    Hi all,
I have an iMac that runs quite slowly after a few hours use, especially when using Photoshop and other Adobe software. What happens is, the processor gets completely swamped with "System" tasks (shown in Activity Monitor as red bars), the result being that "User" tasks are slow and the mouse jumps around the screen, rendering the computer almost useless. I've done a bunch of disk utilities including Leopard's onboard Disk Utility as well as OnyX, and although some errors were found, it was nothing serious. And after repairing, problems persisted.
Now, here's the thing. When I open Console, most of the errors are Adobe-related (mostly Photoshop and Dreamweaver). And I just ran a "Validate Fonts" check in Font Book, and found 15 fonts that have "serious errors, do not use".
So, I've often heard that Leopard, Adobe CS3, and corrupted fonts are a lethal combination. Not that I'm asking anyone to diagnose my problems from across the world, but does this sound like it could be the root of my problem? And if so, what's the proper process for removing the dangerous fonts so they can't ruin anything? Do I just delete them, or do corrupted fonts cause deeper problems which might necessitate reinstallation?
    Thanks!

BTW, turn off the bad fonts with Font Book and see if the performance returns to normal.

  • PSE 11 Organizer very slow

Several months ago my battery on my Mac Book Pro died while I had PSE 11 Organizer open.  Ever since this time the organzer runs very slow and I spend more time watch the rainbow spin than I do working on my photos.  Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong or how to correct this problem?

Try resetting the preferences file to see if it makes any difference:

  • PSE9 Organizer is very slow

The organizer is very slow and take over a minute just to page from one screen to another.  I took off facial recognition but that only helped minimally.  Is this an improvement?  Previously used PSE 6 which worked fine.
This is test of the trail version on a Vista SP2 Intel 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of memory

After a couple of days of testing I've decided to pass on PSE9 :-
Don't like the Organiser color - the light grey is far to light and don't like the grid around the photos
The font for filename, tag name etc is far too small
The organiser performance is slower than PSE7 - doesn't render photos instantly like PSE7, things like adding tags and anything done on multiple items seems to be slower in PSE9 than PSE7.
Yes the new features are OK - but I cannot work with PSE9 so I'm passing on it.

  • Version 9 organizer very slow

Running version 9 and find the Organizer to be very slow. Is the Organizer in Elements 13 a 64 bit application and will/does it run faster?

Yes, if you have a 64 bit system, PSE 13 is 64-bits. However for PSE 9, go to the Organizer preferences>media analysis and turn off everything but Face Recognition and see if that helps any.

I am having the same problem. Did turning off iCloud work? Did you just turn everything off or did you actually delete the account off your iPod?

  • It's very slow to access file server after installed SP1 of Win7.

I found it's become very slow to access shared files on file server after installed win7 SP1, (windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe),  access same file, the win7 without sp1 is fast in 5 secs, but the pc with sp1 need more than 30 secs. And
I tried to removed the sp1, everything goes fine, access fast as others.
I don't understand what's the reason and which feature affected it, I believe the sp1 can help Win7 be more safety, but why the performance on it get worse.
And I didn't find the same question or tips on forum or website, do you really haven't the issue?

  • Elements 10 organizer is very slow. Exif-file modification.

    Slow Elements organizer
Problem 1: My elements organiser is slow! Very very slow!???
Problem two:  Why Elements 10 organizer wipes off some data from exif-file, f.e. longitude reference (east or west). It is doing that for my exif-files each time I editing jpg-image. If I start editing with Element 10 editor from Picasa-organizer, then longitude references stays untouchable.
    Please advice!

  • PSE Elements 11 editor very slow

PSE Elements 11 editor very slow and unresponsive since updating to Mac osx 10.9 (Maverick). Any help would be very much appreciated. Thankyou in advance.

If you upgrade to 10.9 with the application already installed the old prefs will have been left behind; so you need to clear them. Start by quitting PSE11.
Launch Finder and click the Go menu whilst holding down the Option (alt) key. Then go to Library >> Preferences and clear everything relating to PSE11 which usually means deleting the following files:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Settings
Also see this link if you normally have Finder set to the cover flow view:

  • FF 27.0.1 very slow download/resolving clicked links/resolve reloads. Computer slows to a halt. New Win7.

Firefox has been running extraordinarily slow. Pages takes sometimes minutes (really) to download/resolve; clicking on links on a page takes many seconds, up to a minute, to register, then the click takes more time to resolve. Autoreloading pages take many minutes to resolve. While all this is going on, the computer slows down, and typing will slow to an almost halt. Characters take many seconds to show up, selected text takes many seconds to register, etc. This is a new computer, 12G of RAM, lots of hard drive. My bf is currently sharing this computer and uses IE. I'm now filling in this form on IE because FF was so painfully slow. And, btw, I don't have a large number of tabs open. About 15 right now.
I took one suggestion from a FF support page and revised my upon-opening to restore all last pages/tabs. I then closed and reopened FF. It is better, but IE has been open at least as long, has many, many more tabs open, and is using a ridiculous amount of memory per tab/groups of tabs, and it is lightning fast. I used to use IE, switched to FF about 2 years ago when IE became too unstable...but I am very seriously considering switching back to IE if FF continues to slow down so drastically and so quickly. And continues to crash without warning. Please don't suggest opening in safe mode....not going to happen. Apparently, from what I can read on your site and other places, FF has become another bloated program that becomes useless after a short time - many, many complaints of very slow loading, etc. Can you please fix this, please.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Loading pages, esp. online, are very slow!

I have not found a problem exactly like mine among other posts and hope someone can help me. Recently, I bought an Airport Extreme card and base station to go online with my iBook G4 (10.3.9) and I am impressed with how easy it was to set up and how trouble-free it is to use. Yet, loading pages and connecting to sites and applications have slowed down. It's so slow I have gone up to the icon to "stop" the loading process and suddenly the screen is displaying the desired site (or showing a partially loaded page). "Reloading" sometimes goes on to producing the full page. Sometimes "stop" produces what I expect: a stopped search. If I hit “load” a second, third, or fourth time the page starts reloading where it left off the last time I stopped it and often speeds up and quickily connects me on the second or third try at reloading. "Loading" has become a gamble: it’s either very slow or reloading that 2nd or 3rd time goes very fast and quickly connects me! It’s like it “catches” on the later tries. I do not understand this.
After a long, slow attempt to load I sometimes get messages like "bad server response" and "failure to connect to server", (among others). Twice, there has been no response at all when I click "GO" or “Preview” or “Enter”. The first time I tried to post on this forum, I successfully previewed my post, then edited it. When I tried to preview it the 2nd time, nothing happened, and I could not submit my post either. There was just no response when I clicked the “buttons”. Then, I tried to go to the previous page and, after a while, finally got the “error” message. It is taking me hours to do what I should be able to do in less than one hour.
Working offline, processing information and loading applications and pages is still pretty slow but nothing like it is online. Spinning beachballs are nearly constant! While processing a query, I find I can get up from the computer, perform miscellaneous tasks, and when I come back, if I'm lucky, the screen will have my desired information - usually, however, it is still trying to load the page.
Searching posts on this forum gave me the idea to increase free space on the hard drive: With a capacity of 37.25 GB, the harddrive had just over 2 GB available... that 2 increased to 6.02 GB after I downloaded and ran Monolinguist (to take out foreign, unnecessary languages) and Onyx (for "maintenance" and "cleaning"). I verified and repaired permissions. I don't know anything else to do!
Can anyone help me correct this slow processing? Is it something to do with the wireless connection or it's configuration? Maybe Monolinguist took out something it shouldn't have? Maybe I didn't do enough "cleaning" or "maintenance" with Onyx? Sometimes a little knowledge has gotten me in more trouble than I could figure out how to get out of... but, I don't think I am quite there yet. I do need help! So please... "HELP!"
Any and all help will certainly be very much appreciated.
    Thanks, debi

if computer works otherwise, slow wireless connection could
be caused by bad wireless signal:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58543
also, problem may not be with the AirPort, but with the high-speed router or internet service provider.
if possible, you may want to connect iBook to the internet
with the network cable first - if it works ok, problem is likely with the wireless.
if the iBook works slow even with the cable connection, problem could be software or hardware on iBook or something with the router.
also, if possible you can test an iBook on some other wireless network - if it works ok, problem is within your home network.

I followed the instructions exactly as in the article.I don’t think there is much scope for error as i did not encounter similarly named files and the described path took me exactly to the file in Program Files. I am certain I have never encountered similar problems with my laptop before. Even if I made a mistake, it would have been so easy to make that I would not recommend anyone else to try that!

  • Have Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and it's running very slow.  I don't know what's wrong!

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and it's running very slow.  Have no idea what's wrong or how to fix.  Op Sys is Apple, OS X, ver 10.9.1.

    If so, then see:
    http://barbarabrundage.com/2013/10/28/photoshop-elements-and-os-x-mave ricks/
For PSE 11 you want to get
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 settings
    if you use organizer, also
    com.adobe.Elements Organizer.11.0.plist
    com.adobe.ElementsOrganizer11.plist
If you use raw, Adobe Camera Raw < version > Prefs
and any lockfiles with the same names.
Since you've already run PSE, go into the Saved Application States folder and delete any for PSE.
    Repair permissions and try again.
Also go to the organizer preferences>media analysis and be sure everything there is off (except face recognitiion, if you use that).
