PSE automatically launches on Mac OS

All of a sudden whenever I turn on or log on to my iMac OS X, PSE 6.0 automatically launches. It never used to do this. The icon is on my dock and just starts bouncing and launching and it's driving me crazy. There is no place I can find in PSE preferences to turn this off. Help!

There is nothing at all in PSE that could do this, but I bet it's the Adobe Updater that's causing it: look in the dock a minute or so after PSE launches. Do you see a white rectangle there? That's the adobe updater. To stop it, since you probably already clicked on Later or something sometime to make it do this, you'll need to let it run, then go to the Updater window and you'll see a Preferences button. Click that and turn off auto updating. It's just a nuisance and the only thing it ever successfully updates is Adobe Reader, not PSE.
If that's not it, somehow PSE got into your startup items folder. System Preferences>User Accounts>Login Items.

  • How to remove automatically launched items/apps?

Sorry if this is a duplicate question.
Actually i didn't find best answer for disabling items that automatically lauched when osx starting.
I've been removed all startup items from login startup items (System Preferences - User & Groups - Login Items).
Nothing found on StartupItems folder (Library - Startup Items) too.
But some items still automatically launched on Mac start (such as Splashtop Streamer, Busycall).
How to remove those startup items without completely uninstalling them?
    Any help would by appreciated.

Those are system modifications, and if you want them to do what they do, they have to load at startup. If you don't like what they do, remove them according to the developer's instructions, or refer to the developer for support.

  • Is there a way to use Automator or Applescript to launch the Mac App Store and download updates automatically?

As the subject indicates, I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to use AppleScript or Automator to launch the Mac App Store and download any available updates on a set schedule.

I would advise against this. Updates sometimes reduce functionality or break programs.  I would never get an update with working software unless there is a specific problem you are trying to solve.
I have read many desperate posts from people trying to go back to earlier versions for various reasons. This is easy to do with disk-based software,  but with downloaded software, going backward can be more difficult.

  • IPhone 4 no longer automatically launches iTunes

My iPhone 4 no longer automatically launches iTunes. In iTunes, the box is checked that says "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected." I've checked and unchecked that box, restarted the computer, etc., but nothing I've done has fixed the problem. I've seen the solutions for the same problem in Windows, but not for a Mac. How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I have the same problem and found the same solution (i.e. unchecking then "open iTunes when iPhone is connected", then rechecking it, re-installing iTunes Helper).
The only problem is that this keeps happening over and over, and while I can certainly manage opening iTunes manually whenever I connect my phone, it bothers me that something is not working and I cannot figure out how to fix it.
I noticed that when iTunes does not open automatically, you will see that iTunes Helper is not available in the System Preferences -> Users -> Login Items. The funny thing is that I am not even able to find it on my computer at all - until I re-install it through iTunes that is...
Does anybody have an answer for this?
    Thanks,

  • Link Won't Automatically Launch Email Client

We use an intranet application database for CRM (ColdFusion) via Safari (5.0.3). Our accounts include email addresses which, when selected, previously opened a New Message in the email client of user's choice (whether Mail or Entourage, etc.)
Some employees using iPads and iPhones were noting that Mail was not automatically launching when they selected an email address (appears as a hyperlink in the database). I began to investigate, and the links are not working (automatically launching a New Mail Message in the email client) on one of our MacMinis (10.4.11) either. The links to a New Messsage are working on some of our Macs (some 10.4.11, some 10.6.6), but not all.
In my playing around with settings, somehow I have made the links not work on my MacBook Pro (10.6.6)!
Here is the copied link (with inserts for security):
    https://www.[site].com/secure/customer/log_email.cfm?id=481&mailto=[name]@[domain].org
Again, this WAS working fine in Safari on my MacBook Pro, but it is not now. I should point out that the email links ARE working in Chrome BUT NOT FireFox or Safari.
I have changed my default email client in Mail, back and forth, to see if this would make a difference, but it has not.
The CRM provider has said they haven't changed anything on their end (and again, it is working for many of our Macs).
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
On the iPads and iPhones. Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset All Settings. Then restart the devices.
On the Mac for Safari. Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. See if made a difference. If not, try emptying the Safari cache from the Safari menu, Safari / Empty Cache or Command + Option + E.
Since you have changed the default Mail client several times, you may need to delete the com.apple.mail.plist file also from the user account: ~/Library/Preferences
Make sure to make note of all your Mail preferences first before delete that.plist file.

  • ITunes automatic launch when iPhone connected

I suddenly have a new problem, and am uncertain as to what I did. When I plug my iPhone into my MacBook, in the past, iTune automatically launched and recognized my phone. Does not do that anymore.
I upgraded to Leopard. Any thoughts?

Make sure, on your iPhone's screen in iTunes, that "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" is checked.
I am seeing the same thing. I have to manually launch iTunes on my Mac Pro.
i like , are you referring to the checkbox in iTunes on the Mac/PC that actually reads, "Automatically sync when iPhone is connected" or a screen on the iPhone?
I have the above box checked yet iTunes still fails to open when I plug in my iPhone.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for the response gakker, but I've double-checked the camera / iPhoto / Image Capture scenario, and I'm 100% positive it's got nothing to do with that.
Plugging in my iPhone has no effect on anything related to this.
The other thing I should have mentioned is that when iTunes on my Mac is NOT running, then nothing happens on my iPhone screen when I plug it in to my Mac. I only get the "Sync in progress" message when iTunes IS running.
It's interesting though that you say you also get this "Sync in progress" message, albeit only for a second or two though.
Can I just double-check something with you however... When you say:
+"at no time was my iTunes playback interrupted"+
do you mean the iTunes on your Mac? Because the problem I have is that the iPod-playback on my iPhone is interrupted.
So can you clarify that for me, please? If you have music playing on your iPhone, and you then plug your iPhone into your Mac when iTunes is running on your Mac, does the music playback on the iPhone get interrupted?

  • Very recently, my computer stopped opening quicktime when I click on a video clip in iphoto, Its quicktime X, and it works to play videos if I open quicktime and then search for the video. How do I go back to quicktime automatically launching from iphoto?

Very recently, my computer stopped opening quicktime when I click on a video clip in iphoto. I have quicktime X, and it still works to play videos if I open quicktime and then search for the video. How do I go back to quicktime automatically launching from iphoto?

Well since I do not have iPhoto 7 I can only guess what may be: As far I can remember up to iPhoto 8, iPhoto insisted on Quick Time Player 7. As I can see you have Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) and there Quick Time X is the standard playaer. Basically Quick Time 7 is not part of Snow Leopard.
Can you please check if Quick Time 7 is installed under Applications->Utilitis (in 10.6 Quick Time 7 if presenet is installed not under Applications - there Quick Time X is - but under Application/Utilities).
If not: insert your Snow Leopard installation DVD.
Once the installer opens, double-click on the Optional Installs folder
    Double-click the Optional Installs.mpkg package
    Click continue.
Select the option for QuickTime 7 then click Continue to start the installation.
If it is there you may try to move the iPhoto prefernce file to another folder and let iPhoto create a new one.
Please keep the old file until you are sure that iPhoto works how it should.
The iPhoto preference file can be found under your home folder then Library then Preferences and there
    com.apple.iPhoto.plist
As alraedy mentioned do not delet this file, since if something goes wrong you can put it back.

  • Automatically launching iCal at Login:  is it a drain on system resources?

Since the persistent "July 17" iCal icon bugs me, I was thinking of having iCal automatically launch (hidden) at login.
Can anyone knowledgable of such things comment on if keeping iCal running all the time would be a drain on system resources?
I know the origin of the JUL 17 (the day iCal was first launched), but it's sort of a useless thing to note for anyone of than iCal software developers and Apple execs.

    Argelius,
I run iCal continuously and find that it has no adverse effect on my system performance, but depending upon many variables starting with RAM your mileage may vary. When hidden, iCal uses 0.00% of the CPU.
One of the best ways for you to determine the efficacy of an iCal automatic login with a continuously running but hidden iCal is to give it a try. If your system performance suffers, you should probably not use the automatic login feature.
If you read Mac OS X: Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor, and search for Activity Monitor you will find several articles which relate to evaluating your system performance.
According to Troubleshooting Mac OS X by Dr. Smoke, some of the things that you can do to improve system performance are, getting more RAM, turning off the eye candy, make the Dock less entertaining, disabling window effects, using a static desktop background, skipping iTunes visuals, reducing the number of widgets, disabling automatic protection features, and removing unnecessary fonts.

  • When my bluetooth device disconnects, automatically launches iTunes. Why?

I've seen some other posts on this, but none that solve the question.  iTunes (11.1.5 (5)) automatically launches evertime I disconnect my bluetooth speaker or the speaker times out and shuts off. In iTune device preferences, I checked the box "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically". iTunes is NOT paired with any Remotes.
I wondered if Spotify might be the source of the problem, but when I closed Spotify and ran the test (disconnect my bluetooth speaker), iTunes automatically launched.
    Any help?

Same issue. In former Version of OSX itunes autolaunch could be disabled by setting "no action" when a CD is inserted (in case your mac still has a CD drive). But with 10.9. this does not help. For some reason Apple thinks as soon as something happening with audio it's the deepest desire of every Mac owner to start to use iTunes. What makes this totally weird is that iTunes is started when the speaker is DISconnected.
Haven't found any solution, and have to say it ***** big time. Please, apple, don't dictate your users which app s they "want" to use on what occasion... if there is an autolaunch mechanism there has to be an easy way to disable it, like iPhoto autolaunch when you connect a camera.
The constant launching of iTunes on every occasion I really do not want to use it is painful.

  • AUTOMATIC LAUNCH ON POWER UP?

Final Cut Express is automatically launching on 2 of my 14 MAC's (I teach it). I need some help as to why. It never used to do it, then one day editors 6 and 14 just started launching FCE on power up. I need to turn this off.
I've already looked in settings, at "launch last application" but it's not the "last application" it's just launching a brand new timeline upon POWER UP OF THE MAC, NOT upon launching Final Cut.
    Thanks for your assistance.

THANK YOU! That fixed it. I appreciate your help. On a side note...my MAC's no longer warn befroe emptying trash. The "show warnign before emptying trash" is checked in Finder, but it still gives no warning.
I was trying to block the trash from being empties with out a pass word, so I put in the ~/.trash command in the FINDER under GO--GO TO FINDER to password protect the trash, and since then when I empty trash it gives no warning. It works, but when I put in the password, it says "I don't have sufficient priveleges...."
No one can figure it out yet. Suggestions?

  • Having iTunes automatically launch and play a radio station

    Hi,
Is there a way to have iTunes automatically launch and start playing a radio station under Windows XP?
I am running a small store and iTunes plays internet radio over airport express speakders. I would like to simplify the life of the employees by simply telling them (in case of crash or reboot) to simply double-click an itunes shortcut to have it open and play.
I noticed you can create an Apple script for Mac platforms, I hope there is an equivalent for Windows XP.
    Cheers,
    Lanceloz

iTunes is a little bit strange when it comes to streams, but you can just open the URL (from the info for your stream):
tell application "iTunes" to open location "http://radio2.digitalgunfire.com:8000"
... and since you posted in the Automator forum, you can make a workflow that searches for the name of your stream and starts iTunes playing, for example:
    1) Find Songs in iTunes (whose Name Contains digitalgunfire)
    2) Start iTunes Playing
