PSE Backup vs. Windows backup

I normally make my backups on a NAS using a dedicated backup utility. I make backups of all my documents and images.
So I am not using PSE backup facility. What do I miss? Is there any extra feature that I cannot have with a backup utility?
I have tried to run a backup with PSE on a test folder, but the way in which the files are renamed and organized, it seems to me that this backup could only be restored with PSE. Is it correct?

OK, you are right. I am making backups only of the image files and of all the files contained in my images folders, even of the files that are not in the PSE catalog. Together with all the backup of the rest of the stuff that I backup regularly: documents, emails, and so on.
I don't make backup on the catalog file itself, but I am going to include it in my backup profile.
So I have to run in any case a regular backup on my system. What will be the advantage to run also a PSE backup?

If you made backups of all of your photos and your catalog file using some third-party method (i.e. not using the PSE catalog backup command), then you should be able to restore everything.
Step 1. Put the photos in the EXACT SAME LOCATION as before. For example, if they were in subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents, then they must go into the exact same subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents.
Step 2. Move the catalog file to wherever you want it to be, and then double-click on it.

  • PSE Backup-Probleme

+ 2. synchron gesichert).

    Juergen
P.S.  Hinzuzufuegen ist allerdings noch, dass gewisse Kreationen, wie z.B. Alben, hierbei verloren gehen koennen.

  • Images too bright in PSE, good in Windows Picture Viewer.

    Hi:
My question is this, I shot some pictures of my son last weekend, in studio,
with a Nikon D2X camera, and a softbox lightbank mounted on a Balcar
flash head. I set the camera to RAW-JPEG Fine, ISO 100, and used a
Minolta flashmeter to measure the light from the strobe. The reading was
f/8 and 2/3. The images look good in the LCD camera display, but when
I see them in my PC display, they look way too bright in Photoshop Elements 7.0,
but they look fine in the Windows XP SP3 Picture Viewer.
Why is this?. If I adjust the contrast and brightness in PSE, then they look too dark
when I check them in Windows Picture Viewer...
Also, the highlights look a little burned out in both, PSE and Windows Picture Viewer,
but the problem looks more evident in PSE. This happens often when I shoot pictures
    using strobe lights.
Can you help me with this two problems?.
I have attached one of the pictures so you can take a look at it.
    Thanks.

As to why the photo looks different in PSE than in Windows Picture And Fax Viewer, there are two possibilities:
    1. Your display may have a color profile associated with it, either because you calibrated it with a calibrator or a profile was installed by the disk that came with your display.  PSE is "color managed" and will adjust the colors of a photo based on the display's color profile, whereas Windows Picture And Fax Viewer will not.  If you want fine control over accurate display of colors on your display, you'll need to calibrate it if you haven't already, and you should then only use color-managed programs like PSE to view your photos.
    2. The photo you posted indicates that you've set your camera to use the Adobe RGB color space for JPEGs.  The Organizer has a bug and doesn't display the thumbnails (even large thumbnails) of such photos correctly.  The Organizer's Display > Full Screen (F11) and the Editor do display such photos correctly.  I'm not sure if this particular photo will trigger the bug, because of the way Nikon in particular stores color profiles in JPEGs.  You could see if you're getting hit by this bug by:
    a. Open the photo in the Editor.
    b. In the Organizer, make the photo's thumbnail as large as possible (not Full Screen view).
    c. Adjust the zoom of the photo in th Editor to be about as large as the one in the Organizer.
    d. Use Ctrl Tab to switch quickly between the two.  If you see differences, you're encountering the bug.

  • PSE 6 with Windows 7  - three cursor images

This is a new problem.  I have PSE 6 and Windows
    7.  Everytime I use the move tool, it shows up as three cursor images
    on my work page.
To be sure it isn't the combination of the PSE6 with W/7
    I downloaded PSE 9 trial.
I am still having the same problem with a fresh new download.
    Anyway to correct this?
Other tools look normal on the page.
    ~appreciate any help~

Thank you very much - worked like a charm.
It is nice to get help, programs can get so frustrating.

  • PSE 8.0 Windows serial number work with iMac?

I recently purchased PSE 8 for Windows, and so have a legitimate product key.
However, last week I bought an iMac for photo editing, and I plan to couple Lightroom 2 for my raw conversions with further mods in PSE (can’t quite justify CS5).
What I’d like to know is... if I download PSE 8 onto my iMac, will my Windows product key work?  And if not, is there anything Adobe are prepared to do to switch across?
The Windows laptop won’t be used from now on, so all my editing is being done on the iMac

No, but you can crossgrade. Contact Adobe sales (not technical support) and they will switch you over to the mac version for a minimal charge, just shipping and handling.
(BTW, you do know there is no organizer in the mac version, so you need to prepare for that? Just checking.) EDIT Never mind, I see you're using LR anyway.

  • PSE 7 & OS window 7

PSE 7 and Window 7 (64 bit), are they compatible?

Photoshop Elements 7 came out before Windows 7, but it is designed to work with Windows Vista, which are similar enought that there shouldn't be any issues running the software.

  • PSE 5 with Windows 8 problems

I've already posted a couple of problems with my PSE 5 with Windows 8, the main being it won't connect with my camera even though it is in the menu. I also wonder why when I click on updates, the box states it is unable to check for update for this product. How strange is that?  This elements 5 worked perfect with my Windows XP even opening automatically to get photos. I'm not very good with all this tech stuff, but am ready to just uninstall it for good. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make it get the photos and updates?

Yes. I never used it to edit or really ever learned about using it! I only
ended up using it to grab my photos and organize them. I never like my
pictures, so maybe the new windows version will be better. I have my canon
rebel which I can use to get the photos. I just like the elements as I am
used to it now. It's weird that out of 5 times, I got it to get my photos
once! But ever since I added the service pack suggested to me, it has done
nothing and even disappeared from the task bar icons. Guess it's no meant
    to stay! Thanks!

  • E-mailing from PSE 10 and Windows 7

Why has the problem with emailing a photo from PSE 10 and Windows 7 never been resolved?

I used to use Outlook Express. Now Windows 7 doesn't support it. I've read through hours of forums in the past. I changed my default email client to Windows Live Mail on a tip. In the PSE10 Organizer, I go [edit; preferences;sharing; and choose Windows Live Mail as my email client]. Try to email a photo, and I get a "Could not open Outlook Express..." error. I do the same and choose Adobe Email Service and I get a "Sender Verification" window telling me that Adobe has sent an email to me and to use the code found in that email to continue. There's no email. I click on "Resend Email". Still no email. I'm stuck.
Adobe support chat was no help. They ended up sending me a link to a year old forum where other participants ended with the same frustration. They say they no longer support PSE 10. Good job Adobe. You waited it out.

  • Quicktime needed for PSE 13 for Windows 7?

Do I really need Quicktime for PSE 13 with Windows 7?  I did a trial version and did not have Quicktime and it seemed to work fine without.  I now have Quicktime 7 on my Windows 7 computer, thinking that I really needed it.

Here is something to try -- I have no idea what "Error:1" means, but ...
Go into "Program Files/adobe/Photoshop Elements 8.0".
There you will find separate .exe files for the Organizer and the Editor,
try running either one directly and see what you get -- might point
    you a bit at least.
If all else fails, uninstall, reboot, re-install and try again.
These are just generic attempts to fix a problem, I don't know
    PSE8 much I use PSE7.

Yep. I agree with the above comments. Other users have reported issues while working with outlook 64 bit. Here is one such discussion http://forums.adobe.com/message/3289324 .
