PSE/PPE 12 restore - MP4 thumbnails and split files

I upgraded to PSE/PPE 12 from 10. The catalog was corrupt so needed to restore from PSE/PPE 10 backup. Now the tumbnails do not show and will not generate for all mp4 files. Also some files have split into stacked thumbnails but all pointing to the same file.
Any ideas?

is a classic annoying shortcoming of the AutoAnalzyer On. I am assuming that those "...some files have split..." refers to video clips.
If that is the case, in the Elements Organizer 12, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media Analysis and turn off all the options under that header otherwise your video clips will end up split into clips and those clips stacked.

Also, how do you define the Elements Organizer 10 being corrupt? In what way to prevent you from a catalog conversion when you were in Elements Organizer 12?

If you made backups of all of your photos and your catalog file using some third-party method (i.e. not using the PSE catalog backup command), then you should be able to restore everything.
Step 1. Put the photos in the EXACT SAME LOCATION as before. For example, if they were in subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents, then they must go into the exact same subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents.
Step 2. Move the catalog file to wherever you want it to be, and then double-click on it.

PSE 12 Has stopped showing thumbnails for new files

PSE 12 has stopped showing thumbnails for new file imports. Have Windows 8.1 update

In the PSE12 Organizer, the last files imported show an hourglass thumbnail. I am importing from the camera card. Other images have the correct thumbnail. I see the spinning icon on the lower bar showing it updating the catalog. Thank you for your assistance

Ghost thumbnails and No files on HD

My iphoto images are suddenly appearing as blank gray ghosts. All the photo data appears to remain saved for each image, but the visual image itself is missing, with only a gray ghost image left behind. Neither the thumbnails nor the full size jpg shows an image.
I cannot locate my iphoto library in the finder or on my harddrive. I've had no success searching for photo titles in the finder. Nor have I had success restoring my thumbnails or orphaned photos.
The triggering events to this failure were: I emptied my iphoto library trash can. Then, I exported a slideshow to quicktime. I burned the quicktime slideshow to a cd-r. Then, when I returned to my computer, I saw nothing but ghosts.
Can anyone help find my images on the harddrive, or share any tips on how to restore the images with the data remaining? Pretty please.

I've had a similar problem, and it's been driving me crazy. Due to limited onboard drive space, I've been keeping my iPhoto library on an external drive.
All was well. I made sure that my external drive was attached whenever I launched iPhoto. One day, I did this as usual and had the ghosts instead of my usual images.
I'm figuring that there's some way to link back to the images or database on my external drive, but I'll be darned if I can figure it out.
Please help!

Compress file and split file

There's this nifty free application on windows called 7-zip that can compress a file and split the file into several parts. I've been searching for a very long time for something like that for mac. The closest I've seen is simplyrar, but it was buggy as it did not allow me to define the file sizes.
I've been wanting to do this because I have a fat32 drive (simply for mac/windows compatibility) and being fat32 the maximum file size is 4 GB. Thus I wanted to split a larger file so that I can store it on the external drive. Are there any other free alternatives for mac?

BPM and splitting file

Hello,
I've got a scenario: Flat File -> BPM -> 3 Flat files ( each flat file is for a different receiver).
I have designed the BPM but i'm not sure in a good way because the results are strange.
My BPM is :
1 receive Step, 1 fork step with 3 branchs and on each branch i've got a transformation step and a send step.
The result is : 1 receive the first file immediatly but i receive the second file and the third file 12 minutes later ?????
So is my BPM correct or should i design the BPM in a different way ?

You're right but my scenario is :
I have 1 sender and 3 receivers and one file in inbound and three in outbound with different mappings and if one of these mappings fails i want to stop the scenario the three receivers don't have to receive anything.
In other terms, if every thing is correct the 3 receivers receive one file and if something is wrong nobody should receive a file.

Have to deinstall/reinstall: how do I save and restore Bridge thumbnails and metadata?

My hard drive is failing. I am having it replaced. I will then be installing Windows 7 and applications including CS5.5. In addition to the thumbnails, I have a lot of metadata, keywords, collections, and stacks etc. in Bridge and I hope I do not have to lose it all and start from scratch. I had been using a disk image backup system which would have allowed me to restore the entire contents of the drive bit for bit, but the backups started to fail when the hard drive began to fail. So I have to back up or copy specific folders. Does anyone know how I should go about this?

Metadata and keywords are stored in the files themselves.
Don't know about Stacks.
Collections, keyword lists and workspaces are stored in c:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge version\

How can I restore grey thumbnails and photos?

When I look through my photos all but three of the thumbnails appear as grey and the actual photos will not load. Is there any way to reverse this?

- Do you know for a fact that there is no back up on any computer?
- Did you back up to icloud?
Also if you had an email signed in on the phone you could try singing in to the email again in settings>mail contacts & calendars then turn contacts on and see if they transfer back to the phone from your mail server.

Restoring Bookmarked folders and individual files in Firefox 19.0.2

Does FF 19.0.2 bookmark the folders that contain individual bookmarks and individual bookmarks files too? If so, how can I do that? In the past an html or json file I have restored/imported has not contained all the original Bookmark folders and files. Thank you.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If importing the HTML doesn't work properly then there may be a problem with one or more of the bookmarks in it and you try try to use an editor to split out the content in some parts to see if you can identify the problem.

I have exported a file as a custom mp4 (1gb) and the file i have been left with is 1kb, any ideas?

Hi everyone.
I made a 23minute edit of some gopro footage yesterday. Rendered the footage, then exported it as an h.264 file following a guide on youtube. I set the target and maximum bandwidth to 6 changed the level from 4 to 5.1 and i think that was pretty much it.
Clicked export, sure enough it took forever. The estimated file size was 1044mb. The exporting took around 3/3.5 hours. Then once i reached 100% the dialogue box disappeared, i navigated to the output location to find the mp4 file with the correct title but only 1kb large so it obviously won't play!
Any ideas on what went wrong and how i can fix it? I am a little bit devastated at the wasted time if not!

stuff.. I just don't know how to do it.
2. Similar thing with mp3 files. The discography page will
have a list of songs for their new album. They want to be able to
link a few of their mp3 files on it so that when you click on them,
it automatically links to a page with just the mp3 playing.
How do I go about this?

A normal hyperlink to the mp3 file will cause the system to
open the
required player, on those systems where the required player
is installed.

When I go to texture > texturizer and choose load, only PSD files are setup to load. Why are some of these in jpg format and PSD? Is there a feature that uses these jpgs, if so, where is it? For example, what feature uses the textures Blue Pastels.jpg and Burnt Red Pastel Paper.jpg?

No, filter uses the jpgs AFAIK. They are in Photoshop too. They are seamless so you could use them as is and define them as patterns; then again you can also use the PSD files to make patterns. The grass jpg is a good one to turn into a pattern.
If you want to use them with the filters that require PSD files just save a copy of each in PSD file format. You might also think about making them black and white so you can tinker with how they will apply the texture. (White is high; black is low; 50% gray is neutral. Colors act as shades of gray so black and white might help you better predict what the result will be.)

What are the PSE 8 default locations for photos and catalog files in Windows 7?

I can only find this information in the Knowlege Base for XP and Vista.

The default locations for photos are under My Pictures on Windows 7, as compared to Pictures on Vista.

Split and Compress files

Is it possible to compress and split files via terminal without a 3rd part software?
I know I can compress but I cant find anywhere how to split it to certain size parts.
Furthermore is there any app to help users with terminal commands?

there are plenty of compression tools on the mac. gzip and bzip2.
Lately, I like bzip2. This works a little easier on linux, especially if
the original file is split into a lot of smaller ones.

keep the hash of the smaller file, in case you get a error on the far end of the transfer.
That way you only need to resend the small file that's corrupt.

In PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but PSD, DNG and CR2 files don't. Also, no thumbnail below the file list.

Working in PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but psd files just have white sheet of paper as preview. I have to open the file to be able to see it. Also, there is no thumbnail of the file below the file list.Surely, there's a setting that needs to be changed. I did not have this problem with Elements 12. This is a real bother because I have to use Lightroom to see all the file types. It seems as if Elements is using the standard Windows file loader that can't show previews of file types it doesn't know including .PSD, DNG and CR2. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong? I am using Windows 7 64 bits. Working in the editor, I never use the organizer. The screen above is not the same at all that I got in Elements 12, it was completely different and showed me a thumbnail below the listing when I single clicked on one of the files. In Elements 12, I also could see a thumbnail of all the file types, not only the jpegs. It is as if the loader is the regular Windows used anywhere, not the right one for Elements. I hope someone understands my problem.. Thanks.
