PSE11 Slightshow - 2 questions

I'm evaluating a german version of PSE11 (trial version) and have 2 questions regarding its slightshow:
a) The sort option "Path" (Pfad) sorts the slights from bottom to top (rather than from top to bottom). Why this and what can I do to change this? (Using "Lightroom 5" I gave all my pictures a filename reflecting the sequence within the slightshow.)
b) The picture quality of the fullscreen slightshow is bad, i.e. many areas of the pictures displayed show pixels. If I use with the very same pictures a program called "Diashow Producer" the quality displayed is perfect, i.e. no pixels are seen. Pictures have 72 DPI and are of 500 x 700 (approx.) size. If I use a better resolution (i.e. TIFF.pictures with 300 DPI) the quality displayed by PSE11 is equally bad. (By the way, the same problem occurs with Picasa). Has somebody an idea why this is the case and what I could do to improve display qualitiy?
Thanks for any good tips.

Well I am not sure what a "postbank" card
is....does it act like a credit card, or can you use
it only to take money out of your account? In the
US(at least) we have debit cards that have a Visa or
Mastercard logo...those we can use for the itunes
store. I personally use only the prepaid cards.
Lol, well my postbank card doesn't have a Visa or Mastercard logo on it, but it does have a Maestro logo on it. Dunno if that helps. But my main problems are the first two. They keep bothering me..

  • PSE11: keep getting incorrect serial number [was:Question?]

I'm a new user of Photoshop Elements 11.  I purchased it on Amazon and I have the disk.  I'm trying to load it on my new desktop but during installation it asks for serial number.  I enter the serial key and it tells me it is incorrect.  I've also tried all the numbers on the box.  I did load on my laptop but I'm not using it anymore, can I not download on my desktop?

    Have a look through https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html

  • Does PSE11 show HDR exif data for a Canon 5D Mark III?

I have taken some pictures with the HDR feature on my Canon 5D Mark III. The HDR image that the camera creates does not show that it was created using the camera's HDR feature when viewed with PSE11. The Canon Software that came with my camera is ImageBrowserEX 1.4.0 and it shows these data: HDR Shooting Enable, Adjust dynamic range +-2, HDR Effect Natural, Auto Image Align Enable. Is there a way to show the HDR exif in PSE11? Thanks, Anne

Thanks -- I should have mentioned in my original question that I had already looked at File>Info. The usual stuff is there but nothing about the image being created from the HDR camera function, or at least that I could see. I went through all the tabs including Advanced and just don't see it. I will try to figure out how to ask Adobe Technical Support and how to request that they get that info included if it's not there. Anne

  • Can I change thePhoto Downloader sort order in PSE11

The default sort for the Photo Downloader seems be by date and time. I recently purchased a camera the does up to 10 fps and the Downloader does not seems to have resolution to sort the micro-second or even second. I batch download the images and also do a rename of the files in this format yyyymmdd-###. I am finding my action sequences are all out of order. What I really just need the Downloader to do is sort by sequential camera number just like it comes out of the camera. Then all the images would be renamed in the right order. I tried modifying the XML settings file but that was no help.  Am I missing something obvious?
    Thanks

From what I can understand, there are three problems:
1 - the inability of PSE11 to sort by filenames (recognized by Adobe, hopefully solved in ulterior versions...)
2 - the difference of behaviour of the downloader and the organizer (to my knowledge, not reported before)
3 - the fact that the 1/100th of seconds do not seem to be written to the exif by the camera. They are not saved in the sqlite database either...
That means that the difference of behaviour should be explained. If the organizer is able to show pictures in the right order when the date/times are set identically for a series of pictures, that means it is able to use the alphanumeric filename sort as a secondary criteria - the downloader should be corrected to do so.
Another question : besides renaming your files at download, do you use the automatic date folder creation of the downloader ?

  • Add People in Elements 13 (Second Question)

This is probably an issue of software stability - possibly tied in with the first and similar titled question (AdobeFan27 - 28 Sept 2014). Tried Troubleshooting face recognition issues in Organizer which didn't help.
I have a new load of PSE13 and have imported over 6,000 photos in small batches. Using the Add People button with each batch has increasingly become less and less reliable. Each time it's failed to work I have usually found a computer restart has been necessary to make it work again (although sometimes a second restart has been required). Finally today it has completely stopped working and only a reload of the software has enabled it to Add People again. At each of the failures I have tried closing down applications (like Explorer and Chrome, Outlook and other Office applications) and I could not identify any one application that might have been a cause of the problem.
The visual cue to Add People not working is.....   >click on Add People   >windows flash open and close - these have the appearance on "doing its thing" and then instantly closing - too fast to read anything though.
I hope this is a common bug that is coming to light because it would be a pain to have to reload PSE13 each time I cannot get Add People working.
I will add to this post IF I can identify more symptoms. I am also able to respond to Adobe Support staff with additional information if it'll help.

  • Why do photos I moved offline in PSE11 not have a preview file available?

I moved photos offline in PSE11 and now the photos all have a "missing" icon rather than an "offline" icon.  If I try to use them in a slideshow it says they are missing.  I know I can connect the hard drive they are on, but I used to be able to do this without connecting the hard drive.  I only connect if I wanted to edit.  I recently upgraded to photoshop elements 11 (prior was pse4!!)
thank you for any assistance you can offer.  I can not reconnect the files, as when I connect the hard drive it says no files are misssing.

Mytaxsite says exactly the same thing as Andromeda. You say yourself that you have moved the pictures to the external drive. Once they are moved it's obvious you can't access them from the internal drive.
There are two ways to 'move' the pictures : either from the explorer, outside PSE, or from the organizer. If you move your pictures using the organizer move menu, you ask the organizer to move the pictures, which it does, but it updates the new location at the same time. You have no 'missing' files to reconnect.
If you move outside of the Organizer, the new location is not updated and the paths recorded for each file in the catalog are wrong. In that case, all your files are 'missing' and the organizer can't find and open them. You have to 'reconnect' them.
"You may not know but PSE's organizer DOES NOT COPY OR MOVE FILES from its original location.  All it does is create the appropriate links to make these files available."
That's what is important. The organizer does not copy or move files on its own account, it does so if you specifically ask it to do so.
In other softwares, files are often duplicated into a location specific (often hidden and not accessible) to that software, but that's not the case with the organizer (same with Lightroom).
The organizer stores the path and many data present in your pictures files metadata, date, camera etc.
And what is important and may answer part of your original question, it creates and stores a thumbnail of your pictures to enable you to browse your catalog even if the media is offline.
If you don't see the thumbnails, it's because they have not yet been created (it takes some time to do the job in the background).
Connect your external 'offline' media, select the files with missing thumbnails, and choose 'update thumbnail' from the contextual (right click) menu. That should restore your thumbnails and make them available even when the media is offline.

  • Slide show sort order in PSE11

When I choose Folder Location as the sort order for a PSE 11 slideshow, the photos are put in reverse order, from last in the folder to first in the folder.  How can I fix this?

  • List of new features in PSE11 vs. PSE10

Does anyone know where I can get a comprehensive list of features that are new in PSE11 relative to PSE10?  I've seen the high level lists and videos.  But I'm looking for a complete technical type list, not a marketing oriented one.  I am interested in metadata handling, and the marketing lists never get down to that sort of thing.
Also, I understand that PSE comes out with a new version every September/October.  Does anyone have any info on what will be in PSE12, particularly with regards to metadata handling?
    Thanks.

I would be very much surprised if Adobe issued such technical type lists... especially for Elements. It seems that even for Photoshop or Lightroom, there is not much technical info in that metadata question.

  • What are shortest file names for outlook express and PSE11 to import photos pls

what are shortest file names for outlook express and PSE11 to import photos pls

Hi, Troubled. The size of the file name is pretty much irrelevant here to PSE, but to answer your question directly, you will be able to import a file that has only a single character as its file name (plus the file name needs to have the required extension, such as .jpg)

  • Error message on  installing PSE11

I have moved to a new PC running Windows 7. Is PE 11 compatible with Windows 7? When I try to install PSE 11 I receive this message 'Error opening installation log file. Verify that specified log file exists and is writable'. I have tried all of the fixes in Microsoft and on the web with no positive results.

Like most in this user-to-user forum I'm nothing to do with Adobe so I don't have a web site you can download from. You can download PSE11 from http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l but you must follow their 'very important instructions' to the letter. Miss one and you'll likely get an authorization error or download v12.
But the file you should be looking for on your disk is 'setup.exe' and that's the one you'll want to right-click. Here is how my PSE11 disk looks (yours will possibly be different as mine is the bundle pack with both Photoshop and Premiere Elements)

  • Seemingly Redundant File in PSE11 Documents

I notice a file called Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 which, when opened, reveals 2 folders: one named PSE11 which, upon opening, reveals a string of files called Setup1, Setup2, Data2, Data1, PSE11 Installer Package, Elements Installer and Elements Organizer, the other named ReadMe which opens to PSE11 product info and installation requirements. It seems as I could continue deeper into this chain of files revealing more technical titles without knowing exactly what they do but suspecting they do nothing. Can I delete them?

    Peter Hewitt wrote:

What is the full name of this file? It sounds to me (from your later descriptions) as though it is the product installer file, perhaps from your initial download, and not the actual program files that are created during the installation.
If this is so then you could burn it to DVD or a flash drive if you want to remove it from your computer.
Personally I have a folder named 'Hold4Delete' into which I drag anything I think can be deleted but I'm uncertain of. If everything still works after a few days then I delete.

  • [PC] Reinstalling Photoshop Elements 11 Question

How do I reinstall Photoshop Elements 11 on new PC?

Dear Bill (sent 11 March, but not posted here!)
My old (actually quite new) computer unexpectedly packed up irreparably last month.  Fortunately data was backed up, but not programmes (I assumed I would be able to reinstall from original providers). The answers to your questions in this context are:
I do not have PSE 11 as either a file or physical media
Was installed once – on now defunct machine
No warning of breakdown, so not deactivated or uninstalled
I have the PSE 11 serial number
I may say I have been extremely put out by the way that the Adobe helpline has responded – out of warranty so £65 before we will even talk to you!
    Alan
PS (1 April 2014) I gave up and downloaded a new copy of PSE11 from Adobe, but this would not open. After a long and fruitless time on various Adobe sites, trying to resolve that issue they informed me that they do not 'maintain' previous versions (though maintenance not requested - just access to their own download, and PSE11 may be previous, but mine was only 2 years old). An upgrade option is referred to on the Adobe site, but could not be ordered. I have given up and ordered PSE12 from Amazon (for £65), after being offered it for £199 by Adobe! This has left a very bad taste in my mouth - April fool indeed.

  • IPhoto '11 migration to PSE11

I want to move all of my photos to PSE11 as I am shooting in raw and it is much easier to organize and edit in one software.  What will be the best way to migrate the pictures as I have all of my photos organized by event in iPhoto?  I do not have to keep them in events in PSE11 if there is an easier way to migrate them, thanks!

Barbara, thank you for the fast response!  I have enough disk space as I am putting them in Dropbox to get them off my hard drive.  I will backup the files up to an EHD.  I did not keyword my photos, so not worried there.  You spoke to my dilemma, saw there could be a mass import, but was not sure if I should do that vs. each event (I have 120 events).
I do sense a hesitation with your question around whether I have used organizer enough, is there something I should reconsider before I make the switch?  I truly wanted my editing process to be contained to one software now that I am shooting raw, as I am currently importing photos to iPhoto, exporting them to desktop, opening them in PSE camera raw, saving them back to desktop, importing them back to iPhoto.  Organizer to Editor just seems so much easier, but I do want to make sure I am thinking through all things before I invest the time to make the change.
    Thanks Barbara!!!!

  • .jpeg changes in PSE11?

I have used Elements since version 7 to scan CD covers which I embed in files which I create in .mp3 format using Easy CD DA Extractor for many years. These files are then played back using Winamp with a plugin that displays the embedded album art.
Since updating to PSE 11 from 10, the embedded art (which is there, and visible within Windows 7) will no longer display in the Winamp plugin (this plugin has not been changed or updated for several years). I have confirmed that it is the file format that must have changed by saving the exact same artwork (.jpg) on an older system that I have running PSE 8, and re-embedding the image (no other changes to the .mp3 were made). I am saving the file using the exact same options from the save as dialog on both PSE 8 as on PSE 11.
Has the format/header/defaults for saving a .jpeg file in PSE11 changed? And if so is there a setting somewhere that would alter the behavior to be like previous versions?

I used PSE10 with perfect results for the last year. (I had skipped version 9 moving to 10 as soon as it was released from version 8)
Before upgrading to version 11, I revoked my version 10 registration and uninstalled the software.
I am curious as to the 'EXIF' information as I can now see 1 difference:
Looking under 'Details' of the file in Windows 7 under the 'Advanced photo' category, .jpg images which I had created (all done using Canoscan 9000F Scanner) prior to version 11 have no information next to 'EXIF version' or 'Photometric interpretation'. If the same file is then loaded and re-saved in PSE 11, 'EXIF version' has a value of 0221 and 'Photmetric interpretation' has the value 'RGB'.
Under the preferences menu in PSE11 'Saving Files', 'File Compatibility' checking the option to 'Ignore Camera Data (EXIF) profiles' does not change this curious output.
So there is a sign that the meta-data has changed, which is likely the cause of my problem. The question remains is there a user-controllable solution? I collect 1000s of CDs and would hate to have to revert to PSE10 for something that seems so mundane, but this change does affect my music collection.
Any further advice is welcome (and thanks for the thoughtful replies everyone!)
