Pse12 catalog impossible

Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
In the show all sub folders view, does the folder in question have the picture icon or a plain folder icon against it?
I suggest that you use windows explorer or finder to look at that folder and note one of the file names. Then go to the organizer and ensure that Media is selected at the top and that all media is showing (no All Media button). Now go to the search box (top right) and type in part of the file name noted before.
That will show you if the file already exists in the catalog.
If it doesn't exist, what type of file is it?

  • How do I Import PSE12 Catalog into Lightroom 4.4

New to Lightroom and I have version 4.4. I have Photoshop Elements 12 installed and I'm trying to import the catalog to Lightroom. I manage this quite easily with a trial version of Lightroom 5  but in 4.4 if I go to File/Import Photos and Videos or Import from another Catalog there is no option to import from the installed PSE12. So how do do it.

Albums will not transfer via this method of writing metadata to files, because album metadata is never written to files.
The only way to transfer albums is by converting them to keywords, as 99jon said, or by waiting until Adobe releases a new version of Lightroom that will properly convert PSE12 catalogs to Lightroom catalogs (and neither I nor anyone else here knows when that will be).
As a supplement to 99jon's advice, it is my opinion that you should organize via PSE tags (called keywords in Lightroom), and then you won't have this issue of transferring information from album names to keywords in PSE and then back to collection in Lightroom. Tags/keywords are written to the metadata when you inform PSE or Lightroom to do so, and so if you convert the PSE albums names to PSE tags you should just leave them as tags in the future, and leave the information as keywords in Lightroom in the future. In my opinion, there is zero benefit and considerable drawbacks (mainly your time) converting these to keywords to collections in Lightroom. And if you're going to leave these as keywords in Lightroom, then there's also zero benefit and considerable drawbacks to making the PSE tag name "Album New York", just make it "New York".

  • Revel library contents not matching contents of Mac PSE12 Catalog

I have 38,560 files in my Mac PSE12 catalog which is set to be automatically accessed by Revel. In the Revel app on my Mac, iPhone and iPad there are 38,626 files. Why more files in Revel? This is further complicated because I have file formats in PSE12 (bmp, png, tif, gif) which are not supported by Revel so the number of extra files in Revel is even larger.
More important issue: I recently started adding videos to my PSE12 catalog. I've added 34 videos but only 23 have show up in the Revel Mac app. When I access Revel from a browser it shows several "upload incomplete" message for some videos (can't confirm if this appears for all 11 missing videos). How can this be corrected so all video files in PSE12 appear in Revel?
    Thanks.

    Hi David,
Questions on the Revel Sync Agent is best answered by the Elements team. I am going to move this post to the Elements forum as they can answer most of your post.

  • What are the folder/file names of PSE12 catalogs?

I'm curious about what files/folders are created by PSE 12 when setting up the original catalog and then each subsequent catalog.  Also, what files/folders are created for the PSE backup and is there a default folder/file structure tied to the catalog - or is it wholely separate?

    LinusF wrote:
I "know" about the Program Data ....catalogs/[my catalog] location.  Is there any file necessary to the catalog which is NOT there?
The catalog folders contain everything that is necessary for the organizer. The only thing you might consider is to take a note of your preferences settings. The backup folders also contain everything necessary; the only difference is that it may take some time to rebuild the 'cache' files automatically after the restore.
Put another way, I am moving many, many files off my current C: drive in order to install an SSD.  I want to make super sure that I catch everything PSE may have stashed here and there and get it out to "safety" before reformatting this disk.  Thanks for all the help you've been along the line.
The backup and restore process is highly recommended in your situation, but generally it's not the only way to 'move' catalogs and media libraries. Let's say you have all your media files under a single master folder such as 'My photos', you can use the Folder view (left panel) to drag and drop on another external or internal drive. Your catalog is then updated for the new location.
    - advantage : you can check the transfer immediately
    - drawback : you must be patient...
That's for transferring your media library, now you can also move your catalog folder, either manually or by using the catalog manager 'move' option.
So, the backup/restore process is not the only way.
If you want to keep only your Elements program on the SSD, I would not store the catalogs there, I'd store the catalogs in custom location in your old reformatted internal drive. You'll need an external drive for the backup. Alternatively, you could move library and catalogs to the external drive, and back to the old reformatted drive as explained above. You might even use the external drive for both purposes...

  • PSE 5: saving of catalog impossible ?

I had a bad crash on my PC, but to copy all files including catalog worked fine. After this I just tried to make a backup of my actual catalog of PSE 5. Now it is not possible to change the location of the catalog folder with "saving under...". It is not possible to make copy (and paste) of the catalog, too.
    Any Ideas ? Thank You

File->Catalog->Save As should allow you to save a copy anywhere you want
Or you can do this in Windows

  • Can not import avi files into pse12 catalog

I am wondering if any one else is having an issue with importing avi (video files from my Nikon D5000) into the PSE 12 catalog.
Running windows 7 SP1 with all updates.
    Camera is a Nikon D5000
    file type is AVI
Every time I go to import an avi file (either from my SD card or from my HDD) organizer comes up with the message that it has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution.
I do not shoot much video so it is not a large concern but it used to work in previous versions of PSE.
Any and all help with this issue is appreciated.

    Ray
In many instances, a utility software will be bundled in with the camera purchase. Installing that utility software might bring along with it codecs that are needed to work with the video on the computer and in the program. If you do not see or have such a utility software, so much for that idea. If you go after this from the MotionJPEG codec angle, the Morgan MotionJPEG codec has been available online as tryout (later purchase).
    http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/morgan/php/products.php?sProductId=5&sProductSub=download s
    See
M-JPEG-2000 Codec v3 (32 bit and 64 bit) and the associated tab for "Download - trial/demo".
    But, could you clarify on
As soon as I move the avi file off of the sd card the import works.
Given you have the .avi file on the SD card, what is the path to the point where the import works?
That is, where are you moving the .avi file to as it leaves the SD card? Surely not to the hard drive since you wrote.
Also if I go to my hard drive where I saved the avi file and try to import it all by itself, it fails.
I wonder if you are saying that you take it through a route which includes the Video Importer.
    Thanks for the follow ups.

  • How to I move PSE12 catalog photos from a Windows 7 computer to a Windows 8.1 computer?

I have read Adobe's instructions on moving from one computer to a new computer, including some special instructions about going from XP to Windows 7. Are there special considerations in moving from Windows 7 (64-bit) to Windows 8.1? Or is it as straightforward as backing up the photos and catalog to an external hard drive, deactivating PSE 12 on the old computer, installing PSE 12 on the new computer, and restoring the backup to the new computer?

So it's not a new computer? That's what your post seemed to indicate.
Copy /My Music/iTunes/iTunes/ media/ folder on the old computer and put it into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.

  • Installed PSE12. Loaded PSE10 catalog into organiser but have lost categories & sub categories

The photos appear to have retained their keyword tag info but all the sorting into sub-categories and categories has gone as have all the album and smart album data.
What have I done wrong?  After all - no self respecting huge software company removes user data and functionality - they must just have omitted to mention what I needed to do in their (less than impressive) help files.
    Any advice gratefully received.

    HazelSM wrote:
Loaded - I am unsure of the correct adobe terminolgy - sorry.
Loaded is good for me (the terminology is not really fixed and clear...) but you have two ways to 'load' your picture files into your catalog:
1 - As you described by using the 'convert' catalog option. The Organizer reads the data in the old catalog and writes it in a new catalog in the new format. The result is that the new PSE12 catalog stores the same data and is renamed to the old catalog name. The old PSE10 catalog is renamed with a -1 suffix, but is still usable in PSE10.
2 - By using the menu 'Get photos and videos... from files or folders'. That's exactly what a new PSE12 users does to 'import', 'load' or 'register' its own photo library. The Organizer scans the chosen folders and writes all relevant data for each media file : location on the drive, metadata... and creates a small thumbnail icon.
In that case, the organizer only finds the tags and metadata you have voluntarily 'written to files' form the file menu. Categories are lost as well as albums, stacks and version sets. The tags that are found in the media files are shown in the 'imported keyword tags' unique category.
So, from your description, I wonder which process you have done? The real solution anyway will be to try another conversion.

  • Option to Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog not available (LR5, PSE 12, Win 8)

Hi there. I have trial versions of both Photoshop Elements 12 and Lightroom 5.2 (trial licenses are both still active (i.e. not expired)). I'm looking to import my PSE12 catalog into Lightroom before I plunk down the money to buy it.
I cannot, however, locate the "File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog" option in LR5.
I may have originally installed LR 5 before installing PSE 12. So I uninstalled LR5 and reinstalled it. Still no luck - the option isn't there.
Any other ways to force LR5 to look for the PSE 12 catalog? Will LR5 even recognize a PSE12 catalog?
Your help is greatly appreciated - thanks!
    Note: Using Win 8.1

...But we can also wait and see report from other users.
Unfortunately, there is no doubt that the conversion of PSE12 catalogs has been omitted. It's not the first time : I also had to wait for LR4 to be able to convert PSE11 files. We may hope that Adobe will acknowledge the fact, and possibly solve the problem for future versions of PSE.
Of course, it's not a priority for Adobe: the ability to convert PSE catalogs is mainly a sales argument to make the jump from the PSE Organizer to LR easier. Not so many cases, and anyway you can always write metadata to files in PSE and import later in LR. After the jump to LR, you rarely have more PSE catalogs to convert.
However, maintaining misleading update notes by Adobe is not a good point in favour of LR. I do consider that the ability for LR to convert PSE catalog was and still is a very smart demonstration of the ability to deal with database organizational systems. I also consider that once that conversion process is mastered, the update process for each new Elements version is not such a big deal.

  • Images not visible in LR 5 catalog

Why can't I see my images when I move them from my PSE 12 catalog to Lightroom 5's catalog?

How did you 'move' your images ?
The only way I know of to 'move from PSE12 catalog to LR5's catalog' would be to use LR5 to convert the PSE catalog, but that does not (yet) work with PSE12 catalog, only with PSE11 ones. At least, it's not yet available in LR.3.

  • Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog option is missing

The File Menu/Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog is missing on my version of LR5.  I've followed the suggested procedure to update the preferences files for both Elements 12 and Lightroom 5, but LR5 still does not recognize that I have an existing Elements 12 catalog.  I assume if it did the option would now be available?
This was the instruction I tried:

  • 'Upgrade Photoshop Elements catalog' menu item missing

    Hi,
I have been using PSE for many years and recently upgraded to PSE8 (and PRE8). In addition, I started playing with the LR3 Beta and realized that I wanted to migrate LR from PSE. I just bought LR3 and now want to import my PSE8 catalog into LR3. The Lightroom Help tells me that I should go to File - Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog (while in Library module), but this menu item is not showing up in my Lightroom... Is my LR3 not detecting my PSE8 catalog installation? How can I fix this?
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

  • Stacking problem from Migrating photos to Photoshop Elements 12

I just installed Photoshop Elements 12 after my new computer program on Microsoft  8.1 would not support my old Photoshop Elements 5.  In Photoshop Elements 5 my 34000 photos were stacked.  All my photos were uploaded to the new Photoshop Elements 12 and now I have 75000 photos because they are no longer stacked.  I now have the original and edited versions next to each other.  Is there any easy way to restack?

You did not mention how you got your media files in the PSE12 catalog:
    - by 'getting photos and videos from files or folders'
    - or by converting the catalog from the file / catalog... menu ?
Only the last solution restores your stacks as well as tags etc.
If you converted the catalog, have a look at the 'Window' menu just left of the 'Help' menu; there is an option to 'collapse' stacks.

  • Older projects in PSE 12

Dell Vostro 400 quad core, 2.4 Ghz
    3gb RAM, Windows 7.1 Pro
Created slide shows in PSE and PRE 7. These were saved to external hard drive. How do I open them in versiosn 12? What file do I point to to open the project? Is it even possible?

If the slideshow project was in the format .psess then you would need your older version catalog and convert it in PSE12.
If the slideshow is in wmv/pdf format, you can directly import in your PSE12 catalog.
    Thanks

  • Photoshop Elements 12 to Lightroom 5

I wanted to import my tags from Photoshop Elements 12 to Lightroom 5.  I read the manual and watched the video tutorial.  Both mention that you need to hit "upgrade Elements Catalog" in Lightroom 5.  However, I don't seem to have that option under "File".  What happened?

I do have PSE12 installed but have not actually tried it, but I just did. When I click upgrade, it only lists the PSE 11 catalog in the subsequent dialog. Maybe this is something to do with Elements transitioning to 64 bit.
The non-support for PSE12 is the same thing that happens every version of Lightroom and PSE ... support for converting PSE catalogs into Lightroom lags behind the the latest version of PSE. It has nothing to do with 64 bit.
I think drach is best to write the photo info to files in PSE Organizer and then import the images.
Or maybe wait until Lightroom 5.3 is released, perhaps the support for converting PSE12 catalogs into Lightroom will be in there.
File >> Save Metadata to Files
This method does work for transferring metadata to Lightroom, but some items in the PSE catalog will NOT be transferred in this way: Albums, Version sets, Stacks and a few other things that I can't remember right now.
