PSE12  Organizer won't open.

PSE12 photoshop side is working fine, but the organizer won't open.  I says there is a problem.  I have updated the OS system and Adobe software and it still isn't working.  Suggestions?  I spent a long time editing a photo and now have nothing to show for it.

You need to help us out a little here. Like, what operating system this is and exactly, word for word, what the error message says, and which updates to the OS you just applied, for starters.

Organizer won't open in Photoshop Elements 10. Says it is in use by another program.
This just started happening.... When I open Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 in Windows 7 and click on Organizer to open my catalog, I get a message that reads, " The catalog could not be opened because it is currently in use by another program." I know of no other program. I do backup my pictures with a Seagate backup external drive. How can I resolve this so I can work with my pictures again. Could this have anything to do with Adobe's switch to Adobe Revel?

Have you tried restarting the computer?

Fran3mk you have posted to the Download, Installing, Setting Up forum.  Did you receive any errors during the install process?
If not then you may want to consider posting your inquiry to the Photoshop Elements forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements.

  • PRE8 Organizer won't open-Win7

For some reason Organizer won't open. Crashes when I try to open it, eithe from startup menu or within program.
Tried restarting the program and the computer several times.
The problem started occurring when I had just imported several HD vids into the gallery and then clicked the Organizer button while the program was "conforming media". Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Brand new PC, Win 7, 8 core Intel with 1.5TB HD and 8Gigs RAM.
Organizer crashed a few times before but would start working again somehow. Not this time.
    Any help would be appreciated.

No previous version installed. It was the original PRE8 installation. Just decided to stop working?!

  • ? Photoshop Elements 8 Organizer won't open on Windows Vista ?

I installed Photoshop Elements 8 onto a Windows Vista computer and registered. The Organizer opened with broken thumbnails throughout and I could not update the thumbnails. Therefore, I closed the Organizer and opened it again, hoping it would clear up. Instead, the Organizer would not open at all, and I've not been able to open the Organizer since.
Despite several Support cases, Tech Support could not help. They said to uninstall Elements and reinstall it, but when I uninstalled, the disc software screen said I must first deactivate my serial # by launching Elements 8 and going to Help > Deactivate.
However, when I launched Elements 8, a screen appeared with a choice of either a free trial or to enter my serial #. I entered my serial # and got a red "X", and it would not accept the serial #. Tech Support said there is nothing wrong with my serial #.
Tech Support then said to download the Trial Version. I did that, but could not open the trial version either!
    Message:
"Files in use. Some files that needed to be updated are currently in use."
"The following applications are using files that need tro be updated by this setup.
Close these applications and click Retry to continue.
    Organizer - Photoshop Elements"
So it thinks my Organizer is open and using files, and it's not open. I can't get it to open!
I clicked RETRY and got the same message.
I clicked IGNORE and it was installing files, got almost to the end, said "registering product", then said "rolling back action" and started going backwards.
I had uninstalled my Elements 7 software because I intended to now use Elements 8. I decided to reinstall Elements 7 to use that while I was dinking around with version 8, and now it gave me the same message:
the serial # is in error, or is already in use by someone else!
    Now I can't use either 7 or 8.
HELP! Does anyone know how to deactivate a serial # when the software has already been uninstalled? Can it be done?

    Hi Ankush
    Thank you for your reply!
Unfortunately, I can't try out your suggestion until next summer, because in early November I moved to my winter home in Florida. I left my Vista computer in Colorado Springs in its sorry state of nonworking Adobe Elements versions 7 and 8. I took the software discs with me.
When I arrived in Florida I bought a new computer.  I had left Colorado without being able to deactivate the Elements 8 serial number, so would not be able to use that software disc in Florida. Therefore, I asked Adobe for a refund. (Some of the tech support cases regarding the problem were still open and unanswered.)  Adobe replied that the month warrranty had run out so they wouldn't give me a refund. I argued a little, then gave up.
Therefore, I bought a new Elements 8 software program. And the old XP Florida computer contains Elements 7 and I have the disc.
The new problem: I must know how to DEACTIVATE a serial number before I dare install the new Elements 8 softtware, in case anything goes wrong, or in case I have to reinstall Windows 7 for some reason, which would wipe out any 3rd-party software. I also must know how to DEACTIVATE the Elements 7 serial number on my old XP computer so that I can install it on my new computer.
I opened a CHAT session with Adobe and asked how exactly to do this, because their FAQs and other information aren't at all clear. Here's what the tech said to do. Launch Adobe. You will see "Help" on the "toolbar". Click "help" and select "deactivate". Well, all I get when I launch is a Welcome Screen and there is no toolbar with help there. So I thought, maybe he means, open the Organizer or Editor and look for the Help menu. I opened the Organizer, clicked on Help, and there was no deactivate option listed. So I opened the Editor and clicked on Help and there was no deactivate option listed.
I just opened a case with Adobe asking what I have to do to deactivate a serial number. I don't see why they can't explain this.
Have you any idea how this is done?

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer won't open on Windows 7

It was working fine one day, I was adding pictures and actually was ordering prints through
Shutterfly and came back to computer and organizer wouldn't open.  Any suggestions with
    out reloading software?
    Pam

Actually I found the problem after searching through the forum list - it was the solution to reset the organizer's online-services state.
Right, that was the step 7 I referred to.
Is there a known problem with this feature?  I definitely am leery of ordering prints through the organizer field again.
Yes, it's been a known problem in the Organizer since at least PSE 6 (2007), with an Adobe tech note describing the problem and the workaround:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405252.html
Like most bugs in the Organizer, Adobe has explicitly chosen not to fix it.
The problem appears to occur when an upload to a service is interrupted or fails.  The workaround, deleting those files, seems pretty reliable.

  • PSE 12 Organizer won't open

    Hi everyone,
I have tried to install, uninstall and reinstall PSE12 to get the organizer to work but have had no luck.  When I first installed the program, the organizer worked for my first transfer of RAW files from a memory card.  Afterwards, I tried to move some of the old files into the organizer and while creating thumbnails it crashed.  It has not worked since even after uninstalling and reinstalling to software.  Here are the details:
What version of Photoshop Elements? PSE 12
Have you installed the recent updates? No, installed software, cannot get the organizer to open.
What operating system? Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1
What kind(s) of image file(s)? Nikon RAW
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?  No message.  There is a bar show activity but it does not open.  The editor does open.
What were you doing when the problem occurred? Transferring old pictures.
Has this ever worked before? Yes, once after the initial install.
What other software are you running?
Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed?  How much free space is on your system (C:) drive? 4GB Ram.  239GB Free.
Has this ever worked before?  If so, do you recall any changes you made to PSE, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.?  Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?  No changes.

I have had the same problem. The introductory screen opens and when I click on organizer it opens. Then if I try to open Photo Editor from withinorganizer or from the introductory screen nothing happens. I chatted with text help but they were not helpful. One wonders if they are there not so much to help as to get you to sign up onto more and costlier programs rather than be of actual help in solvining a problem I uninstalled my virus protection as well as PSE 12 then reinstalled PSE 12 and turned on my virus protection, nothing changed. I did that several times. I took the computer to the place where it was built and the tech service person worked on it for several hours. At that point he came to the conclusion that it was an Adobe Corrupted file or something that Adobe has in the program that is causing a conflict. When I first installed the program it worked well. Then a few days ago I started seeing on the introductory screen messages to try/purchase Ps and Li and then the program stopped working. Not sure if there is a relationship between the two. I also had a second Tech support company looked at the progran going through the uninstal/instal procedure cleaning things up with CCleaner and stil does not work, The Adobe tech help guys are totally useless and who are well aware that their suggestions will not lead to a solution.
The tech company even downloaded the program directly from Adobe Web site and its still no good. It could be that there is a conflict with the welcome screen and the ads for Ps and Li that suggenly started appearing. Aside from 2 tech companies I have wasted 2 days trying to resolve the issue.  There are no updates or fixes for PSE 12 and it seems we are dealing with a piece of junk. Shame as Adobe is such a well known company and has many decent products used through out the world. Based on the forums I am not alone and it doesn't seem that Adobe is too interested in moving to install fix. Time to move on and download GIMP, a free version of a photoshop editorwhich has similar features and some claim is even better.
Now I have to cancel my Photoshop Elements 12 course as I don't have a program to follow in class.

  • Elements 6.0 Organizer won't open

When I try to open the Elements 6.0 Organizer from the desktop icon, the Elements Welcome Screen, or from within the Editor, I get a message saying that the Adobe Photoshop Organizer has stopped working, and that Windows will shut down the program. I have tried resetting the preference files and registry for the Organizer. I have tried opening the catalog repair by holding alt/ctr/shift while clicking on Organizer in the Welcome screen. I have tried downloading and applying the licensing patch. When I check the log.txt in Word pad, the last item listed is OLS initializing.
The problem began after I tried to upload a series of photos to Shutterfly. The process stalled after loading 4 out of 21 photos.
I have been using Photoshop Elements 6.o for a year with Windows Vista with no problems previous to this one.

    Carla,
    >When I check the log.txt in Word pad, the last item listed is OLS initializing.
Look at the information here to reset the Organizer's online services state.

  • PSE10 Organizer won't open. Had an online chat which didn't help

Hi all - very frustrated. I have been running PSE8 for some time now and have just purchased PSE10 to keep myself current. The install seems to go OK but when the welcome screen comes up and I choose organizer, the program just closes. No error message, nothing - just closes. I can choose editor and that loads fine. If I then choose the organiser tab in the top right of the editor screen I just get a white box in the editor screen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, performed a system restore from a previous restore point but no luck.
I have had 2 online chats, both of which seem to be very scripted asking me to do a range of things like going into the elements directory and opening organizer from there whilst holding down ctrl + shft , renaming catalogues, creating new user acounts with admin priviledges etc. but that does not work either.
I have sometimes had problems with PSE8 opening the organiser with it just shutting down, but always the 2nd time I open it, it works no problems.
As it stands I'm close to residing myself to being stuck with PSE8, but I don't want to be forever held at this point. Don't know if I can face another 2 hour online chat being asked to perform the same actions!
If anyone can help me to overcome this I'd get them a beer!

I must admit I feel a bit fooloish as I followed your instructions without reading them first, hence when I got to the end you ask for the processes I ended, I didn't note them down! Anyhow, off the top of my head there was 3 processes I ended. One was an Adobe QTxxxx type process, one said elements and the other said elements organizer.
Your help is much appreciated. I'm close to picking up my hammer to "fix" it once and for all!

  • My computer updated to Windows 8.1 and now photo organizer won't open in my Elements 12.

Windows automatically updated to 8.1 and now, the Elements 12 that I bought to work with windows 8 won't load the Photo Organizer at all.

I  have exactly the same problem!
I am attempting to run Photoshop Elements 9 Organizer on a Windows 8.1 OS and have entered the "DirectX is installed but cannot be initialized" HELL!  Per the suggestions of many, many other users apparently residing in this HELL with me I have a) clicked "off" and reclicked "on" the "Turn Windows Feature On & Off / Legacy Systems / Direct Play" option and b) verified that "Windows / System 32 / quartz.dll" seems to be a legitimate file at 1.49MB and c) rebooted my computer so many times my boots are getting worn out and d) uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop Elements twice.  Does anyone here have any other suggestion or fixes for this apparently common and widespread Adobe problem that renders Photoshop Elements about 50% unusable?  Thanks.

  • Elements 9 Organizer won't open

I hope someone can help as it appears that Adobe will not.  I have both Elements 8 and 9.  I bought 9 as a result of a special offer as an 8 user.  I downloaded it online last July.  From the beginning I could not open the 9 Organizer.  Every time I try it pops up a box that says it is "restoring people recognition data..."  It gets to 22% complete and stops working and the only thing I can do is shut it down which always shuts down Organizer.  I have been busy with other matters since and have just taken the easy way out and used 8.  Recently I started editing in 9 but organizer 8 can't recognize my saved edits.  Since I can't open Organizer 9 I can't do the things I want.  I can find nothing on this subject anywhere on Adobe web-site and a chat with them reveals that this is the only way I can get help.  Does anyone know how I should proceed?

Thanks Ken, I was able to get Organizer 9 open immediately.  I did not, however, clearly understand the rest.  First since my Organizer 9 was never open before I had no previous catalog or at least I don't think so unless Organizer made one by itself that I never saw.  I figured though it might be best to go back to the original anyway.  I searched Organizer for an Edit tab but everything I found took me to Editor 9.  I opened Editor 9 Preferences but did not find a Media Analysis tab and thus was unable to turn it off.  What do you think?  Am I missing something important?

  • Photoshop elements organizer won't open

I've tried opening the Organizer from the task bar, the Welcome Screen, and from inside the Editor, but nothing happens. Help!

    Hi
I think you need to contact Adobe directly (I have done this recently and the team were brilliant – they took over my computer and the issue was resolved) using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
    1. Adobe Photoshop Elements
    2. Adobe ID, and signing-in
    3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the area marked chat 24/7, then click “start chat ”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Ask to be transferred to technical support. Have your serial number available. The agent can directly troubleshoot your system if you agree to activate the Adobe Connect add-on.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer won't open or crashes shortly after opening

Every time I open Photoshop Elements Organizer it either crashes before opening or very soon after.  I am able to use the editor, but not the organizer.  I ahve removed all older versions, disabled my anti-virus software, and have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times with no luck.  I have a Dell Laptop with windows 7 - 64 bit operating system and dual quad processor.  I have used several versions of Elements and have never had this problem before.  The last version that I had installed and worked was version 8.

The first thing to do is start with a new, empty catalog:
Hold down your Ctrl+Shift keys when launching the Organizer to get to the Catalog Manager.  Create a new catalog, naming it something completely different, and the Organizer will use that to open.
If the Organizer opens OK with that empty catalog, you can use File...Catalog Manager to highlight your old catalog and hit the "Repair", then the "Optimize" buttons.  Then open your old catalog.

  • Photoshop Elements 7-Organizer won't open

Photoshop Elements 7 was working fine, then I tried to download pictures to print using the Share feature.  It froze.  I rebooted, and since then have been unable to open the Organizer either from the welcome window or from within Edit or Share.   From the Welcome Screen, it starts loading but gets hung up at "Initialize Plug-in."
I tried opening it going through c:\programfile\adobe\photoshopelements6.0\photoshopelementsorganizer.exe    No luck with that either.
Is my only option to uninstall and reinstall the program?
And what happens to all my albums when I do reinstall?  Do I lose all the albums that I had previously edited?  (No, they are not backed up-thought they were, but discovered otherwise when I tried to retrieve them.
    Thanks

You're still looking at the wrong folder.  In the tech note:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408913.html
step 2 refers to the following folder for XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\Adobe\Online Services
You substitute your user name for [your user name].  Your user name is the account name you use to log into Windows; e.g. I log into Windows with the user name "ellis", so the folder to navigate to would be:
    C:\Documents and Settings\ellis\Application Data\Adobe\Online Services
Also, the note in step 2 says to make sure that you can view hidden files in Windows Explorer, but the link provided no longer works.  Here's the correct link:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404856.html
Once you've completed step 2, proceed to step 3 to delete the indicated subfolder.
