Pse12 sometimes fails to close completely leaving exe file running in background

pse12 sometimes fails to close completely leaving exe file running in background which must be closed with Task Manager before reopening in Windows 8.1.

Try to use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

  • Firefox 3.6.3 fails to close completely, leaving an open instance in Task Manager.

Firefox 3.6.3 fails to close itself, leaving an open instance in Task Manager of Windows 7 x64 each time the browser is closed. The instance needs to be closed manually in order to successfully start new browser session. This seems to happen in OEM version of Windows 77. There are no issues with a retail version of the OS. The problem started with a fresh, new install of Windows 7 with no other software installed.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

  • The root cause for the case that "cannot close labview-generated exe file"

Hi All, I have a big program including a lot of things. When I converted it to an exe file, it cannot be closed properly. I used to load the dynamic vi in this program and cannot close it by clicking "X" of the window. Now I have removed that dynamic load but still cannot close the exe. Could anyone give me some advice? Thank you!

Hi Freelance_LV, thank you for your advise, here is a program for a USB dongle. Here are the answers:
    for now, questions:
    1. how are you closing the EXE? Panel close (X) on the top right corner/stop or exit button on the GUI?
[A] I use (X) on the top right corner but it did not work. But when I use exit button on the GUI it worked.
    2. Or are you using a FP Close invoke node?
    [A] No
3.how are you handling the event for Panel close or for Stop/exit button?
[A] events are inside a sequence frame
how many loops are running in parallel inside the EXE?
[A] It is hard to tell. I am not the original creator of this code, but the main structure is this: a big "for" loop, inside there are some sequence frame, and some events in one of the frame.
how are you stopping those loops when the panel is closed or a Stop/Exit button is pressed.
[A] the main loop inlcudes some events, sequence frame, and something like this. And there is a subvi from some previous people's work to close USB.
have you checked if all the loops are closing when you stop the EXE?
[A] Sorry I don't know how to check all the loops are closed.
does this work well when you run the source code?
[A] yes source code can be always be closed well.
have you checked for any errors when yuo stop your EXE?
[A] sorry I don't know how to check for errors?
when you say it cannot be closed properly, there could be two things:
    1. the front panel/GUI does not close and it stays there. you cannot perform any GUI actions, or it seems to have hung.
[A] Yes GUI still there. But cannot perform any GUI actions.
    2. the GUI closes but you can still it in the task bar below, you will have to use the Task manager to force close the executable.
    [A] Not this case.
    Thank you very much!

  • How to make a .EXE file run always as a BACKGROUND PROCESS ???

I have a .EXE file that i want to run always on STARTUP.
And it should run only in the BACKGROUND PROCESS LIST in TASK MANAGER.
It should not show up on the TASKBAR or NOTIFICATION TRAY.
Plz Help !!!! Thnx in advance

What is the need for such a security?
If you are an administrator and you want to run the EXE file in background in all other user accounts (which are non-admins), you can simply add the file path under the run key in registry. The registry entry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The EXE file is not visible to non-admin users (of course, visible to administrators), even in Task Manager.
Depending on the application behaviour and the way it works, it may or may not be visible in system tray or task bar.

some where i read to add the path in inverted commas followed by -auto
    Eg : "C:\Users\GAURAV\Documents\****.exe" -auto
i added it and it ran on startup but it showed on my desktop !!! i dnt want it to show on desktop !

  • Winlogon.exe file running from an improper path

Apologies if this is already covered,
i have a toshiba satellite T8100 and recently it has been switching itself off and it then takes up to three attempts to reboot. I ran a scan using AVG and the results showed that the file winlogon.exe was running from  an improper path. The error actually shows up twice in the same scan as follows: C:\ Program Files\Windows User\winlogon.exe and then again with (2044) on the end. It then goes on to say: File is running from an improper path. Help and suggestions to solve this problem is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance

    Tecra 8100
A machine that switches off needs more than software fixing. The usual reason for this is heat building up. Better take care of that.
I would ignore what the AVG scan says.
Unless you are running Windows Vista, you should certainly avoid the advice you got here.

  • Mail Sometimes Fail to close

Sometimes mail doesn't close, intermittently. have to force quit. any suggestions would help

Do you have any third-party Mail plugins? Do you have either a /Library/Mail/Bundles or a ~/Library/Mail/Bundles folder in the Finder?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items. What do you see there?
In Mail, open Window > Activity Viewer. What do you see there when Mail refuses to quit? Actually, you may be able to avoid having to force quit Mail by canceling whatever it's doing (by clicking on the red stop icon of the activity).
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • Sometimes fails to import complete ppt slide

Occasionally when I want to import additional ppt slides, it fails important the whole thing, leaving only the title and the first line or two.  I tried to get around this by adding the slide I want to a longer presentation and creating a new captivate project then copy the slides from that, but it has started happening there too.  Not every slide, but usually the one I'm interested in.  I can't see any problems with the ppt slide; in powerpoint, it all displays correctly.  Any ideas?

Well, the problem is magically fixed now. I wonder what you might have seen in the metadata?
Here's how I got it fixed:
I thought maybe I should use Sync.
When I sync'ed the files, I guess I had the wrong Metadata menu option checked (still learning this application) and all files in the directory now received the same star rating from the master selection. Oops.
So I went back into ACDSee, changed rating of each file as desired, made sure that metadata was embedded in files (ACDSee terminology).
Went back to LR5, selected all files in directory.
Use menu Metadata Read from file. This time all files properly read the new ratings.

  • Editor fails to close a java class file.

    jdev 10.1.3.4
Even if I click the X on the editor tab, jdev editor does not close the file.
File-->Close does not close the file either.
File-->Close All closes all files, however.
Instead of closing the file, it just jumps to the next file in the editor.
This has been happening to me for a some time, and it happens with Java class files only.
jsp or xml files do close no problem.
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Why does my .exe file run on the PC I created it on, which has LV installed, but it will not run on a PC which does not have LV installed?

I am trying to run a stand alone application on a PC which does not have Lab View installed. I created the executable file and the installer. However, when I run the .exe the VISA functions contained in the VI return error messages and the power supply I am trying to control does not respond. The stand alone application will run on a PC that has Lab View installed.
My application initially used a VISA resource control to selct the instrument GPIB address on the PC I used to create the application. Since the PC I am trying to run the .exe on has an older version of NI-MAX I cannot create aliases that the VISA control can interpret.I have tried to upgrade NI-MAX hoping that would solve my problem:
    Here is what I tried:
uninstall NI-488 and NI-MAX ( if you want to uninstall MAX you must uninstall NI-488 ) reinstall NI-488 and NI-MAX Ver 3.1 then try to install NI-MAX version 4.1 which I downloaded from NI website. When I do this I get an error message when I try to run MAX. None of this worked so I hard coded the instrument address as a constant and again that works on the PC with LV installed but does not on the PC without LV.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you do have the LabVIEW runtime engine installed.  It might be that the VISA drivers you have are not compatible versions.  In NIMAX, look under software to see what versions of VISA software you have installed on both systems.
It does not matter what version of NI MAX you have installed, since your application does not use NI MAX.  NI MAX only helps you look at (or simulate) the hardware and software you have on your system.
One thing you could do is include drivers and the runtime engine while creating your installer.  That way, you should be able to do a complete install on a clean system.

  • Does turning off debugging help a compiled .exe file run faster?

I'm trying to get my application to run faster.  I saw on this website that turning off the debugger makes the application run faster but it's unclear if that applies to the development platform or a compiled executable.

You are probably referring to this KB article: General Performance Improvements. When you create a stand-alone application you can also enable debugging. This will save the block diagrams so you can debug the application while it's running. Normally when you build an app the block diagrams is stripped.
The amount of impact that turning off debugging will have to your VI/app performance is hard to say. To best way to get a VI/app to run faster is to improve the code in the first place. This means avoiding very large memory arrays, not initializing and closing references every time you iterate in a loop, minimizing file I/O, etc. If you provide some idea of what your code does, and can perhaps post your code, specific suggestions can be provided.

  • Trouble linking exe files

Yet another dilemma with my CD project. I published the first
project file (of 9 separate projects) as a standalone .exe file
with an autostart file to burn to cd. I set the END to open another
.exe file. When I view output, it fails to open the second .exe
file. It opens a browser window and says it can't find the .exe
file. All project file names are only 8 characters, so that isn't
an issue. But it shouldn't try to open the .exe file in a browser
window, should it? Is there any reason I can't publish all the 9
projects as standalone .exe files and link them to one
    another?

    Hi again
Here's the way I would think it would work.
You have a menu and perhaps ten movies. They are all in .EXE
format. The menu.exe would run via autorun.inf as long as nothing
has impeded it. So you have a Menu.EXE running. Your user clicks a
movie link and POOF! The selected movie.EXE plays. But here's the
trick. The movie opens in a new instance of the Flash player. The
Menu.exe is still running. It's simply covered by the new movie. If
the user closes the new movie, the Menu.exe is uncovered. This
allows him/her to open other movies from the menu.
Sorry, no way I'm aware of to speed things along. For one
thing, accessing anything off a CD will be slower to react than off
a hard drive. For another, maybe the movie is simply very large and
would take an inordinate amount of time to open even on a fast hard
    drive. Hard to say.
Hope this helps a smidge... Rick

  • Loading new labview exe files from a running vi

    Hi! Me again
I've been thinking about another way to reset my running application (some data doesn't get reset due to it being in a case structure...(see   http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=145525&requireLogin=False    for details   ).
What I would like to do is to be able to open a simple menu labview exe file, while closing the main file.  This would enable the user to quit labview at the click of a button, or reload the main exe, freshened up , and then the menu closes.  I can get vi's to open and close but an exe file would be supurb, as it can be used from the start, without needing a run button.
I've been fiddling with invoke method : open fp and loading a vi rather than an exe file.  I'm sure it can be done.  Bear in mind I'm a chemist, not a programmer, so some terminology may be lost on me, but examples are not

    Hi Fios,
Why don't you just use the system exec.vi, found at All Functions >> communications >> system exec.vi
then you just put the full path to the executable in "command line" and set "Wait until completion?" to False
This will open your LV exe and then you can use VI server as you described in your post.

  • Published .exe file - Captivate 5

We recently upgraded from Captivate 3to Captivate 5, with Captivate 3 we published all of our projects as .exe files and never experienced a problem.  However, I just created a project in Captivate 5, published it as a .exe file (tried with both Flash Player 9 and Flash Player 10) and users cannot access the file.  Those of us that have the Captivate 5 application installed on our PCs can open the .exe file without a problem.  However, the users that do not have the Captivate 5 application cannot open it.  All of us have Flash Player 10 installed, therefore, I don't believe it's a problem with the Flash Player.  The error message that they are getting states, "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
My project information is as follows:
    Resolution:  800x600
    Slides:  13
    Slides with audio:  0
    Audio quality:  MP3, 96 kbps, 44.100 KHz
    eLearning output:  Acrobat.com
    Display score:  Yes
    Enable Accessibility:  Yes
    Skin:  City Night
    Flash(SWF) size and quality:  Custom
    ActionScript Version:  AS3
I also published it as an .swf file (with html) and they cannot open the .swf (I believe because they don't have a swiff point player), but could open the .html.  However, the .html doesn't work properly with posting quiz results to acrobat.com.
Your help is greatly appreciated, at this point, it's preventing us from using Captivate 5 for anything.
    Nikki

    Hi David,
I don't understand why Adobe Technical support is still working on a solution .... when one has already been developed and WORKED !!! Unless other people are having a slightly different problem with publisheding as .exe file ??
Here is the details of the bug I reported on 16th August 2010:
Feature Request/Bug Report : Bug Report
    Product                    : Captivate
    Product Version            : version 5
    Browser                    : Microsoft Internet Explorer
    Web Server                 :
    Application Server         :
    Database                   :
    Operating System           : Windows XP
    OS version                 : 5.1 SP3
    HTTPREFERRER               : https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=5
    Feedback Report            : ******BUG******
Captivate 5 Projects published as .exe will not run on Learners computers where Captivate 5 has NOT been installed. When they try to run the .exe file the following message is received: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". Learners computers are running on Windows XP
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Start Captivate 5
    2. Create project from project template. Note project template was created in Captivate 5
    3. Project created contains 5 slides, 4 slides are recording slides
    4. Save project
    5. publish project as Windows .exe  6. .exe files runs on computer with Captivate installed
    7. send file to learner (with no Captivate installed) and when the try to run it, the error message appears
Results: error message received: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"
Expected results: .exe file should run eLearning program created with Captivate 5
Here is the solution (minus the attached file since I can't add files to this forum) I received on 16th August:
We really appreciate you reporting this issue. The issue has been addressed and I am attaching the fix with this email.
Please follow the below steps -
    1. Rename the attached 'FakeFlash.txt' file to 'FakeFlash.Exe'.
    2. Go to "<Adobe Captivate 5 Installation Folder>/ExecutablePublish"
    3. Take a backup of 'FakeFlash.Exe' file.
    4. Replace the 'FakeFlash.Exe' with the one renamed in step 1
    5. Launch Captivate, Open the Project, and publish it to Exe
Let us know if it solved your problem.
    Thanks
    Ravi
I suggest Adobe Technical Support talk to their colleague, Ravi, for the solution instead of re-developing it. And post it on the Adobe site so everyone has access to it.
As much as I enjoy particatpating & helping the Captivate community ... I'm sorry I just can not act as you distributor of bug fixes because Adobe can't get their act straight on this MAJOR problem.
    Best Regards, Carol

  • Application exe file cannot get FieldPoint data

I built an application exe file from my development notebook computer (Win XP) that have LV7.1 and Max 3.1. The stand alone exe file runs well in the same notebook. But it could not get any FP data when it is running from a target computer (Win 2000). I found that Max was version 3.0 (FP version 4.0) in the target computer. The development notebook has MAX 3.1 (FP version 4.1). Is this the reason I cannot get FP data (temperature and other paramenters)?

The version difference is probably one of the problems. A second problem may be that the resource/device/item names that are configured in MAX, and/or the IAK file name may be different on the second machine so the EXE may be trying to access a non-existant item.

    Aaron
