PSE13 Organizer Crashed during People Recognition

I am using PSE13 on two computers with common photo folders on my NAS. The photos on the NAS are mapped to M:\ drive in M:\photos and are divided into a number of subfolders by year (e.g., M:\photos\2014). When I do a people recognition in Organizer on a single subfolder, the program often crashes during the 'analyzing photos' phase. Has anyone ever come up against this problem? Any solution recommended?
Thanks
Bob

  • PSE9 Organizer crashes during playing of slide show

I've upgraded from PSE6 to PSE9. PSE9 reported no failures when converting my PSE6 catalog. When I open the organizer, all looks fine. If I go to full screen on a photo, then click play to run a slide show, the organizer works fine for a while, then stops.
I've attempted to get the assistance of Adobe support, but their responses have been worse than useless...some are comical. I've describe the situation to them thoroughly and sent the failure report data that Microsoft provides when a program stops working.
Does anyone here have any helpful suggestions on where I can go for help on this? Have you also had useless information from Adobe when asking for support?

There is a kb particle published by Adobe for the solution of this problem. Check it out at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406966.html and see if this resolves your problem.

  • Organizer crashes during minimization

Photoshop Elements 9 - 11:  I thought that, maybe, with the new version out that Adobe would have fixed the organizer 'disappearing act', but I guess not.  Finally, when you start Photoshop Elements 11 the organizer actually appears without you having to shut the program down and start it two times.  Now, with Photoshop Elements 11, try to minimize the organizer and you can't get the screen to restore either by clicking on the icon on the start bar or by right clicking the icon and then selecting restore.  You, AGAIN, have to shut the program down and start it back up again.
Windows 8.0, 16gb RAM, 4GB Video RAM, plenty of HDD storage on solid state HDD, plenty of processing power.
Anybody else have this problem ??

Try using Alt+Tab to cycle through open applications.

  • People recognition error in PSE 9 Organizer

I am new to PSE and PRE. I purchased version 9, installed and began importing my photos and videos. My library has 8566 entries. At first people recognition worked fine finding photos with faces and suggesting names as I entered them. Then it read "No unlabeled people found in your selection." I thought this was great because I had everyone tagged. I noticed as I looked through my photos that not everyone is tagged. Now I get boxes asking "Who is this?" and when I click the box I no longer get a suggestion. Also if I try to run people recognition it says "No unlabled people found in your selection." I get this message even after importing new photos that were just taken. PSE Organizer recognizes the face but still says no unlabled people. How can this be? Please help.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

I am also fighting the same problems.  Tried the suggestion by RDNelson #13 with No Success. Not impressed with ADOBE's response so far.  I have not tried the new catalog procedure yet because I do not want to get 90% finished and have it fail again.  Thank you to all that have responded and I wonder how many others are reading but not joining in?
Can you tell me what is happening after you tried my suggestions.  Are you still getting "No unlabled people found in your selection" when pressing the Start people recognition button?
I may have duplicated this issue.  I will ask that you investigate something else.  First, some background information...
Running face recognition makes an entry in the catalog.  In addition it creates a file for every photo which face recognition is run on.  This file is placed in the BreezeData directory under the catalog directory.  I was able to duplicate the issue where the propmt "No unlabled people found in your selection" by write protecting the BreezeData directory.
Possibly, there are issues with this directory on your system.  I just helped someone else who had directory permissions on the .dat files which caused other issues.  Possibly there are permission problems in this directory?  Or, could this directory contain too many files (NTFS volumes should allow for a very large amount of files)?
This is what I would like you to check...
    1) Check to make sure the security settings are set to "Full Control" on the BreezeData directory.
    a) Right click on the BreezeData directory from the Windows Explorer
    b) Click on the Security tab
    c) Click on the Advanced button
    d) Click on the Effective Permissions tab
    e) Click on "Select..."
    f) Type in the user name which is currently logged in or the user name you wish to check permissions on in the box "Enter the object name to select (examples):
    g) Press the "Ok" button.
    f) Review the checkboxes in the "Effective permissions" list to ensure there is a checkbox next to all items in the list.
If you don't have sufficent permissions, then add full control to the desired users.  You may want to verify that the catalog and all content under the catalog is set to Full Control.  Make sure to exit the Organizer and restart before you try face recognition again.
    2) If 1) does not indicate any problems, see if you can actually navigate to the BreezeData directory.
    a) How many files are in this directory?
    b) Can you open up any file?
    c) Can you create a temporary file such as a word document or even a text file with Notepad?
Note that the same thing happens for media-analysis except for a file is created in the CAXMPFiles directory for every photo analyzed.
I hope this helps.  I'm not sure I can help you beyond this and it would be best to contact Adobe directly to report this.

  • Automatic people recognition in Elements Organizer

    Hi everyone,
Because I have limited online disk space, I've been using Elements Organizer for quite some time to catalogue all my offline images. What I do is to burn all my images to DVD's and then import these images into Organizer as offline media with the “Generate previews” option. This way I can quickly find out on which DVD a particular image is kept. This way I save on disk space on my computer.
Now I would like to get some advice and comments from you guys on using Organizer this way. I get the impression that the automatic people recognition does not work with offline media. Is this a correct assumption? How do you best optimize use of disk space when you have over 10000 images. My current version of Photoshop Elements is version 12.
Your comments and advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
    Regards,
    Dave

    Hi, cihurst!
Bridge doesn't currently have a way to recognize people, like Photoshop Elements Organizer, but the keywords should certainly be recognized! When you're in Bridge, check out the Keywords Panel (Window > Keywords Panel). It should contain the tags that you set in Organizer.
Let us know if this helps!

  • Organizer PSE8: People Recognition

    PSE8:
Is there a way to force people recognition in a photo where PSE8 does not recognize a face?  I have a few situations where the face is photographed from a distance (against scenery) and PSE8 face recognition states "I have named all people in this photo" when in fact I have not.

Thank you John!  I see it now and it works as expected.  The interesting unexpected behaviour I've noticed with face recognition is that sometimes
the program sees faces in the most peculiar places, such as a table center piece, or a gas station pump..examples from my working with it.
Based on the comments in Barbara's book,  I gather the feature is a work in progress and the earlier version was less effective.  I also notice it does not seem do too well with profiles.

  • PSE10 Organizer crashes when using the "find a missing person" button

I have been using PSE10 for about six months and have about 10500 images in the catalog, mostly digital but also some scanned slides I have been gradually adding.  All images have been added using the "find files" button.  I have been making use of tagging by using the people recognition routine and have reached the point where PSE10 says all people have been found.  Since then I have gone through about 1000 individual images using the "find a missing person" button with good success  until recently.  Now when I try to save the tag after using the button Organizer crashes with the message "Elements 10 Organizer has stopped working.  A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and will notify you if a solution is available".  I have tried optimizing and repairing the catalog without sucess.  I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling PSE10, also without success.  The catalog is in a custom location but has been since shortly after I started using PSE10 and well before this problem started.  With the amount of time and effort spent doing this tagging I would not like to have to start over with a new catalog if a solution can be found.  My computer is Vista 64-bit with 8GB memory.  This problem is driving me nuts!! HELP!!

  • ITunes Match crashes during 3rd step when uploading songs to the iCloud

    Hello There,
I have just one issue with iTunes Match which causes me to be slightly skeptical, although it is such an amazing way to listen to music ect.
I have about 15000 songs and most of them were added on the iCloud, however only around 200 still needed to be added manually on the iCloud. The issue appears right after the second step where the songs starts uploading. All of a sudden iTunes just crashes and asks me to close the program.
Just to add I am using a dell desktop PC with windows 7, and everything is up to date including latest updates of the iTunes.
What can I do to sort this issue out, so the rest of my music can be added to the iCloud without having iTunes to crash during uploads?

    hi,
    See this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4914
I have read elsewhere that some people have used match with XP successfully but they were having more and more problems with each upgrade of iTunes.
Have you tried removing the tracks that are still waiting to be matched or uploaded. There may a track that is causing the problem. Once you have removed outstanding track update imatch. If this works, gradually add the tracks back a few at a time.

  • CS5 apps crash during launch in XP

    Hi,
I just bought and installed CS5 Design Premium and can't get it to work, including Photoshop.  Most of the apps crash.  They crash during launch (splash screen) and therefore never get going.  Each app seems to display different error messages.  One common denominator seems to be something relating to scripting (not sure what that implies - plug-ins?).  The only CS5 apps that don't crash are Bridge and Media Encoder.
Upgrading to 12.01 didn't help.  I tried rebooting, uninstalling and re-installing.  I ran a system scan with Windows Defender and no malicious software was detected.  I run a very clean system so no unusual programs running in the background and what little I do run in the background, I exited from.  I hadn't run a previous version of Photoshop (or any other program in CS5) so there were no Photoshop plug-ins to uninstall.
I do have Lightroom 3 installed (huge image database), which I have not yet uninstalled (far from trivial IMHO).  Lightroom does have three plug-ins (all disabled) which are the Canon and Nikon Tether Plug-ins and a Flickr plug-in.  I don't know how to uninstall these or whether it would affect CS5.
As an example, when I launch Photoshop, I get the following error:
    AppName: photoshop.exe     AppVer: 12.0.1.0     ModName: scriptingsupport.8li ModVer: 10.0.0.0     Offset: 000d183a
InDesign fails as it says "updating Panels" and I get:
AppName: indesign.exe     AppVer: 7.0.0.355     ModName: support for javascript.rpln
    ModVer: 7.0.0.355     Offset: 00036183
    System Specs:
    3.4GHz P4, 4GB PC6400, 1.5TB SATA, Nvidia GeForce 6600 PCIe, Asus P5WD2-e Motherboard, XP Pro SP2
    I run Flash 10.1.53.64 and Quicktime 7.6.6, Java 6.0.2
When I launch Illustrator, it used to crash hard but now it stops while loading (Initializing Plug-ins, PDFFormat.aip) and displays a custom error dialog saying "Error loading plugins.  AISaveForWeb.aip DxfDwg.aip PGNFileFormat.aip.  Eventually it launches, apparently functional (haven't tested it).
    Any help appreciated, thanks!

Corporate users are often very conservative, as many needs must be met before a new system can be rolled-out.  The reasons for being so conservative are rooted in good business, and in many cases are quite justifiable.
I have a friend who works IT at a railroad company, and he regularly has to support Windows 2000 machines amongst the majority of their systems, which are XP.  He tells me what he and a whole team of people struggle with every day.  I've been there.  I administered systems for entire Engineering departments myself.  One of the things I ALWAYS made time for, however, was breaking in new systems and getting to know them.  As a result, our people always had near state-of-the-art systems to work with.  It was even a selling point when our managers interviewed someone sharp who they were trying to get to accept an offer:  Our work environment was second to none.
In recent times we are starting to see why staying with an ancient operating system instead of "biting the bullet" and moving up to modern technology is proving to be more and more expensive.
Brushing aside Vista - for a while - might have been justifiable, but...
Hours and hours to make something work on XP?  New roll-outs of XP systems?  In 2010?  Are you kidding?
All that time being wasted to get old things working could and should be spent on embracing the new, and figuring out how to make it sing on key.  People have now gone before you and can authoritatively state that Windows 7 can be made to work.  A darned sight better than its predecessors in many ways!
    Time is money.

  • Problems with People Recognition in PSE 9 that were not in PSE 8.

Hello, I recently downloaded PSE 9 Trial Version and imported a PSE 8 Backup into PSE 9.  It took quiet some time but it eventually converted the library to suit PSE 9.  I have noticed a couple of small things that I find very irritating and that seem to be a step backwards.  Firstly, when I am in people recognition mode, not all of the names auto complete when I type in the first 3 or 4 letters of the name like they used to in PSE 8, even though the people are in my people list.  This might not seem like a huge problem, but I have 100's of people in my catalog and if I do not spell the name exactly as I typed it before, I will create a second instance of the same person.  Secondly, when a bunch of faces come up in the "Name these people" Screen, I used to be able to hold down Shift or Ctrl key and select multiple people to name at once, PSE 9 wont let me do this, I have to name them one by one, even if they are the same person.  I'm sure this is just a small issue that Adobe will get around to, but it is a huge turn off from PSE 9.

So it sounds like PsE is installed correctly if new people tags work correctly.
I have seen another issue that might be related.  You can manually create a people tag by adding it to the people category.  As long as this tag exist in the 'root' people category, people recognition seems to work correctly.  You can also have people recognition create a tag during the people recognition process.  These are two different tag types if you look inside the database.  And they behave differently.  For example, you can merge tags which have been manually created whereas this functionaliy is not possible for tags created through people recongition.  (By the way, I would not recommend merging the manual tags because you will run into issues when PsE finds a face on a merged and deleted tag).
Once a face has been tagged to a manual people tag, the tag can be moved into a sub-category.
I don't know if tags created in PsE 8 are considered to be manual or not in PsE 9 but this may explain some things
Have you tried to move the people tags to the root people category and see if the functionaly works as expected?
I can't help you beyond this -- you have exhausted my people recognition skills.

  • People Recognition in PsE 8 vs PsE 9

I have 16000 photos currently in PsE's version 8 organizer.  I'm thinking about moving to PsE 9 (also PrE 9).  Have PsE 9's people recongition features improved?  One of the previous releases of PsE would show faces from many photos and allow you to manually tag the photos.  This was very optimized -- although it would not attempt to automatically recognize the faces.  PsE 8 seems to only allow recongition in one photo at a time which is very slow - although it seems to actually guess on the faces for you as a head start.  What has changed in PsE 9?

well , pse 9 has come up with better People Recognition this time , they have made the user interface better and speedier. Also , if you want to tag multiple faces at one time them simply select the desired images and click on face button present in the keyword panel. This will show up a dialog which will ask you to label some faces . On the basis of that it will give your suggestions too Hence making the entire process smoother.
Its surely worth a try !

  • Reset "ignore" in people recognition in PSE 9

    Hi all,
First, as I am no native speaker: please excuse my bad English, thanks.
Does anybody know how to reset the people recognition?
Problem: I did people recognition over my whole catalog. Doing this, I told PSE to ignore some people. Now, after a while, I would like to tag these people too (and not by using the "white rectangle" manually for some thousands of photos).
If I click on people recognition now, PSE tells me, that there are no people unrecognized any more.
==> how can I get PSE 9 to "forget", which people where ignored and to suggest them all (except the ones with tag) again?
Please help without forcing me to delete all my tags already set ;-)
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Mano

I would not recommend you remove the BreezeData folder or any content within this.  You will loose the ability for PsE 9 to make people suggestions on the existing media in the catalog.  In addition, attempting to run People Recognition on any existing media in the catalog will issue a dialog "No unabled people found in your selection" even though there are unlabled people.
The only way I have found to reset the "ignore" option is to remove the media from the catalog and then re-import it.  Export the tags before you do this.  You will have to confirm faces again.  I would try baby steps with a small test catalog to make sure you don't loose anything before you try this on your real catalog.
It would be great if Adobe could add an option (Under the Edit menu and with the right mouse click) "Run People Analysis" on photos which would allow you to start over with people recognition on a photo.  This would add the bounding boxes which were removed with the "ignore" click.
This is what I think is happening...
Once a media item is added to the catalog, a flag is set on that media item telling it that People Analysis has not been executed yet.
If Media-Analysis/Analyze Photos for People Automatically is enabled, the People Analysis will run on newly imported photos.  This will identify potential people with the bounding boxes and some data which helps identify the face.  This creates the data in the BreezeData folder.  I think the bounding box information is also duplicated in the catalog.pse9db file -- but face identification data.
If Media-Analysis/Analyze Photos for People Automatically is not enabled, People Analysis will run when you click on the "Start People Recognition".
The people tag information is also stored in the catalog.pse9db file when you 'confirm' a face to the bounding box.
Some flag must be set in the catalog.pse9db file after People Analysis is run on a photo to tell the system that People Analysis has run.  This prevents it from running ever again on that particular media item.  Running Auto-Analysis will not run People Analysis as it seems these are considered to be separate tasks.
You will also run into problems if you edit a photo using photoshop elements and save it as the same file name.  Again, the Organizer will not make any recommendations on faces because people analysis was run once on the photo -- even though the content may have been changed.  The "Run People Analysis" option would help with this scenario as well!
