PSE4.  Save as/JPEG Options/Quality.  Can I select a default=12?

XP Pro, 3GB RAM
Due solely to carelessness, I have several times overwritten a JPG file of high resolution with one of low resolution, using the JPEG Options dialog window. This has happened when the setting is 3 on the scale of 0 to 12, but I did not select the "3" setting. Something in the PSE4 logic must set it, I presume. When I am closing a batch of images, and it is preset to 3, I manually set it to 12, and for several successive files, some logic resets it back to 3. After several close/save instances, the logic seems to get it that I want 12, and it quits resetting it to 3. (Now retired, I have decades of experience as a professional computer programmer, so I know that there must be some code that sets the quality to 3.)
I have often been able to recover from my overlooking the quality = 3 setting, by rescanning, reloading from my camera memory card, etc., but sometimes it is too late. I want to be able to set a "preference" for the quality to be 12, all the time, obviously with the option to reduce it when I want. Does this functionality exist in PSE4?

I don't think so. PSE warns you though, when overwriting a file. That may
be a good opportunity to reset the quality. Which brings up another point;
the original image file should really not be overwritten, but kept like a
"negative", so one can go back to it if an accident like you described
happens.

Is there anyway to suppress or disable the save as jpeg options dialog box on individiual images/pictures?

UI dialogs are an application setting, not a file property. Selectively suppressing them on a per-file basis is not possible, but you can of course create an action and suppress the dialogs...

  • How can I select the default greeting for a voicemail for the iPhone 4s?

I am wanting to set up the voicemail feature for my iPhone 4s. (I have had this phone for years but never enacted a voicemail!) However, I am having trouble. When I click on the phone settings in my phone, the only options I have in regards to voicemail is to set up or change the password. I am not given the option to set up a voicemail. Whenever I try to set up the voicemail by dialing *86, I am given only the options of changing my password or to set up a custom greeting. I am not able to select the default/standard greeting as it is not mentioned. I am wondering how I can go about this. I am not sure why I don't have the options already available in my phone automatically or why it is not provided as an option when I call to set it up.
    Any help with this?
    Thank you!!

nnd217, Help is here! The 4S is a great device, sorry to learn that you are having trouble with setting up the VM default greeting. I should be able to shed some light on this situation. If you go to your phone icon, as if you were making a call, you should see the voicemail icon down at the bottom right. Once you select that, in the upper left corner there is an option that says Greeting, so ahead and select that. From there you have two choices, default and Customer. If you select default there will be a check mark in that box, then hit save. You should now have your default greeting in place. If you do not have that or continue to have issues with it, please let me know! • I can't save multple pictures, but I can save them one at a time with "save as" the error I get is listed below.

Could not save a copy as “IMG_2477.jpg” because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders.
I have checked the get info for the files in question and they are not blocked. I can save them one at a time under the save as menu option but can not batch save them under the save multple files menu option. Can someone please help me with this?

I did get rid of a few after I set the iphone to not show music which was in the cloud but I still have 2 albums that won't go away.  Any more suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

You can save applescript files as a droplet that acts as a standalone application. This means that I select a list of files and drag them onto the droplet, activating the script.
So yes, it's a droplet, and it's also Applescript.
The code is fairly straightforward, which is why I'm confused!

  • Aperture 3 save PDF to folder as JPEG option missing from PDF services?

I have Aperture 3 downloaded from the App store in a MAC OSX 10.6.7 but the save PDF to folder as jPEG option is missing from the print menu? I do not have discs to re-install Aperture so can I add a workflow directly to the PDF services library and if so where can I get a copy of this workflow?

Hi frank, thanks for the advice, I am very new to Apple and Aperture. I think I am looking at the second print menu, I am basically trying to add text to a phot and have followed this online guide
    http://photo.rwboyer.com/2010/02/07/aperture-book-tool-screen-cast-take-two/
I can do everything except the last part which is save PDF to folder as JPEG. My version of aperture does not give me this option and I only have access to the following:
    Open PDF in preview
    Save as PDF
    Save as Post Script
    Mail PDF
    Save as PDF-X
    Save PDF to iPhoto
Save PDF to web receipts folder
    Pictures
    Edit Menu
There is no option to Save PDF to folder as JPEG and I cannot add this function from the Edit menu? Previous discussions suggest re-installing Aperture 3 but I downloaded this from the App store so do not have discs to reinstall?
    Thanks
    Mike

  • Save PDF to JPEG Options

Under the Print menu, for the Safve PDF to JPEG option, is there an option to save to a high quality JPEG?

The pixel size of the jpeg will depend on the paper size you selected - a larger paper size will give a larger pixel size of the resulting jpeg, but I don't think there is a quality slider anywhere.  When I export an image version with a jpeg original from the print dialog, the file size does not change much and I see no difference in quality, so I assume the quality will be high by default.
I like to use this export settings:
Print > Pdf > Save PDF to Aperture
and in the "Import" panel select "Jpeg".
For example: exporting a file with the paper size set to A4, will result in a jpeg with a pixelsize 2338 × 1652 (3,9 MP), exporting to a custom size 40x60 cm gives a jpeg with 3150 × 4725 (14,9 MP).

  • JPEG Option Disappeared from Save As

In the middle of scanning old photos into Photoshop Elements and saving them as JPEG, suddenly the JPEG option was no longer in the Save As Format dropdown. How can I get it back?

Do you have a convert to 8-bits option in Image / Mode or not?  If not then it already is 8-bits.
Maybe grayscale images need converted to sRGB color images, first, something else you can do in the Image / Mode menu.

  • Can't 'save as' jpeg file

I have a group of PSD files that my client wants to have as JPG files. I just went to do a "save as" on one of these and JPEG is not one of the types of files listed. In fact there are only eight file types listed instead of the list of dozens of types that I usually see. The file is 3600x2400 px so I tried first reducing down to 2000x1333 to see if it had to do with a size limit on the file type, but no luck.
I checked and the JPEG file type is still associated with the CS3 program (which I'm using). The "save for web and devices" option still works, and I can also open jpeg files, however I I'm not seeing it as a save as file option. This seems to have just started this morning.
I suppose I could try restarting the computer to see if there's some glitch.
    Any suggestions?   Best, David

Same happened to me and found out that it was set to 16 or 32 bits. JPEG images are 8 bits. Just go to [IMAGE] => [MODE] => 8 bits. There you go, select the JPEG...

  • PSE7 - Can the 'JPEG Options' window be disabled?

    I'm running PSE7.
When doing a save of a JPEG file I always get the JPEG Options window where
I can set the compression level, etc. Once I have that set like I want it, is
there a way that I can stop that window from popping up until I make
    some change to re-enable it?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately, PSE doesn't provide any way of setting those defaults.  I use a program Quick Macros 2 to record a sequence of keystrokes (a "keyboard macro"), which I can invoke using a single function key.  For example, I have a macro that changes the bit depth from 16 to 8 and then saves as a JPEG.

  • I edit my photos in Photoshop, save as jpeg then import back into iPhoto.  But if I add text to an image in Photoshop can't save as jpeg but as psd. Is there any way I can change to jpeg in iPhoto?

I edit my RAW photos in Photoschop CS3, save as jpeg then import back into iPhoto 11.  If I add text in Photoshop I can't save as jpeg but as psd.  Is there any way I can change to jpeg in iPhoto?

    Terence Devlin wrote:
Yes you can. But you need to flatten it as jpeg doesn't support layers.
While the final JPEG can't have layers, it is not necessary to flatten the original Photoshop file to create a JPEG. There are two ways to make a JPEG while not losing the flexibility of preserving layers, and they both flatten on the fly while saving.
I just tried this in Photoshop CS3 myself. When I add a text layer, and choose Save, the Save As dialog box comes up and defaults to PSD as was described. But... that is just the default! Go ahead and choose JPEG from the Format pop-up menu down below the file list. JPEG is in there. So what happens to the layers? Notice when you choose JPEG, the Layers box grays out and the "As A Copy" box grays out and is checked (i.e. you cannot uncheck it). What is going on here is Photoshop will gladly make a JPEG of your layered file, but it will force the JPEG to be a copy, so as to not overwrite the original layered file. This is good, because your Photoshop file with its editable text layer is preserved, and you get a JPEG copy to put in iPhoto.
The second way is, instead of doing Save or Save As, choose File/Save for Web and Devices. This will also give you a JPEG choice, and also create an exported copy. Because this way makes files for the Web, they will be smaller than JPEGs from Save As because they will lack built-in previews (which you don't really need these days) and other extra metadata that take up space.
Either way you get a JPEG you can toss back into iPhoto.

    Only by exporting.
The Export menu in Photoshop CS3 does not have any direct choices for JPEG.

Sorry you're right, the Office category isn't currently accepting bug reports in which case Olaf's suggestion to use the smiley face is the way to go. In Excel please go to File > Options > Trust Centre > 'Trust Centre Settings...' and check
that the Feeeback Tool is enabled.
If the option is greyed out like this...
... then you should be able to enable it by changing the value of the 'Enabled' registry key from a 0 to a 1 which you will find under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Feedback. You will then need to close all Office applications
    and re-launch Excel 2013.
Once the Feeback Tool has been enabled, you should see the smile face(s) in the top right hand corner of the Excel window and be able to send your feedback.

Sorry ... I read but was unfortunately distracted from your original post.  You have a system that came with Lion.  The Lion that is on your system is only for your computer and cannot be downloaded from the app store again because you never purchased it officially through the App Store.
Try this for making an external USB/DVD copy of Recovery on an external disk.  internet is still required for reinstall, though, I believe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848.  But at least you have a separate Recovery Partition if you ever need a fully new and empty internal disk.
Your assumption is incorrect. Although he may not be able to download it from the App store he can download it directly for the Apple servers using the recovery partition on his original drive.
All you have to do is start the install routine and then point the install to an external hard drive. Once the download is finished the computer will reboot to start the install. At that reboot disconnect the external drive so the install can not start. Boot the computer back into the OS on the internal hard drive, which is what will happen automatically once the external drive is disconnected. Then connect the external and copy the files from it that were downloaded. Right click on that downloaded package file and select Show contents. In the contents of that package is a file called InstallESD.DMG. Copy that file out of the package and burn it down to a DVD or USB thumb drive and you now have the Full Lion Installer. I have several of them laying around on different hard drives and 2 USB thumb drives which I have used to reinstall Lion on my 15" MBP.
Sorry OP I should of just typed this out in my first post.
