PSE4 slideshow to .wmv fails?

I'm trying to create a .wmv file for a 14:25 slideshow in PSE4.  I've done this before with slideshows up to 15 min with no problem.  This one, however, has trouble creating the .wmv file if the screen resolution is too high.  I've done this on two computers running PSE4 with similar results: I can create a low res (160x120) .wmv file with no problem.  I tried a 720x480 and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't (this for xfer to DVD via Premiere Elements, which worked fine).  But if I try a 1024x768 .wmv file (and sometimes with 720x480) the entire PSE program crashes with no error message or other indication.  The resulting file does play using Windows Media Player, but only for about 1/3 of the show, and Premiere elements doesn't recognize it as a valid .wmv file.  This may be system related because if I stop extraneous programs or run it in safe mode it gets a little further along, but not much.  I've also done this right after a reboot (in case of previous memory leaks) with the same result.
Any suggestions on what to adjust to get it to work?
Is it possible to create two or three .wmv files and stitch them together later using external software?
Thanks

Thanks for trying to help.
Actually, as noted above, it also fails (though not always) at 720x480.  Also, I've created several other .wmv files of similar length (15 minutes or so) at 1024x768 in the past.  Plus, 1024x768 is an option offered by PSE itself.
I've since been able to try it again on a newer computer with more memory (3GB) with the same result.
I don't know if this problem has carried through to PSE 7 or 8 because, despite Adobe's claim to the contrary, slide show creations do not convert properly to either PSE 7 or PSE 8 format.

  • Output of slideshow to .wmv in PSE5

I created a slideshow in PSE5 that I saved as a .wmv file.  My Samsung bluray player would not play the file and Samsung support suggested it may be that the wrong codecs were used in the creation of the file.  The codecs supported are:
Video: VC-1 AP or VC-1 SM
    Audio: wma
Does anyone know what codecs PSE5 uses when it creates a .wmv file?

Now I don't work for Adobe, but it is my understanding that these WMV files written from the PSE 5 slide show creation editor are intended for playback on a computer (most usually a Windows OS computer but also possible on an Apple computer with proper plugins).
Do you also buy Premiere Elements 3, when you purchased Premiere Elements 5 ?
Premiere Elements it is capable of writing the output of your PSE 5 slideshow in more choices of video formats. So there is a better chance that Premiere Elements could write an output that could be read by your Samsung DVD player.
P.S. I don't know which codec PSE 5 uses for the wmv file.  There are several utility programs that will display the info about a video file.
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
is the site for a utility called G-spot that might be helpful for you to learn what codec was used for the PSE 5 wmv files that you have. People on the Adobe Premiere Elements forum often discuss interpretation of this information.

  • Saving photoshop elements 7 slideshow as .wmv file

I have tried to export my slideshow from pse7 to pe7 and it wasn't working so i tried to save the slideshow as a .wmv file and it gets halfway through saving and it encounters a problem and needs to close what can i do about this new problem that i now have now i have 2 problems not able to export slideshow to premiere elements 7 and now i can not even save it please help

to troubleshoot your problem I suggest two courses of action at the same time
A -- you should create a new test slideshow which has only about 10 photos. In this test slide show use music (if your original slide show had music) and use pan/zoom (if your original slide show did).  When picking these approximately 10 photos, choose photos that are representative of those in your original slide show.
B - please respond to these questions
1 -- Have you ever been able to either save a slideshow as a wmv file or send a slideshow to Premiere Elements 7?
2 -- Have you recently cleaned out the Temporary Files on your computer ?  How much available space on your C drive?
3 -- How many photos are in your original slideshow (approximate number is OK) and what is the megapixel resolution (like were they from a 4 megapixel or a 10 megapixel camera or were they scanned)  for most of the photo files ?
4 -- Computer specs and what version of Windows?

  • In PSE9, outputting slideshow to .wmv skews inserted text, but preview is fine.

In Photoshop Elements 9, I created a slideshow, which included text on the slides.  The preview looks
exactly how I want it, but when I output to a .wmv file, the text becomes over-sized and spills off the slide
(so only about two-thirds of it is visible).  How can I get the outputted .wmv file to look exactly like the preview?
    Regards,
    Chris

I did try re-doing the slideshow from scratch, and changing all the image sizes to match the output video (1024 x 768).  I still got the same problem - until I realized that re-sizing the text window over the slides causes this to happen.  I tried experimenting with the text on 2 identical slides, and each time when I re-sized the text box, the text skewed.  I can still move the text box around without incident.  Any further thoughts on why this happens?

  • Slideshow exports are failing

I've got my Aperture 3.2 library on my iMac failing to export a simple 5min slideshow.
Doesn't seem to matter what options, what themes, locations ... it spins for a few moments, then claims it's finished - yet no file appears.
    Thoughts?
I've tried rebuilding / repairing my library (ran all three options).
I've exported the project into it's own library too, no joy.

    Aha, got it!
I just removed the 3ivx codec from library\quicktime and tried again - now the percentage indicator is ticking along and nothing has failed yet.
If I recall, I installed that so I could use my old Flip video camera - not sure if it's an old version or not, but now it's gone, things seem to be working again.
Hope this helps some others - I've seen a few problems like this around as I was researching today.

  • Slideshow "Adjust" button fails

I love iPhoto!.. yes, I've used iMovie quite a bit, and I've done many movies into idvd, then burned them......BUT, I really love the automatic transitions that iPhoto does, so I find that I'm going towards iPhoto instead of iMovie.
BUT....the problem I'm having with iPhoto is the SLIDESHOWS!.....
When I want to time a frame for 1 or 2 seconds, I click on "adjust", and when I
enter a time value, it simply does not register that value. AND, I've tried every which way to see if I'm doing something wrong, but it simply will not cooperate..
Am I making myself clear here?....I'm talking about in the "Slideshow" ADJUST mode, when I'm trying to make a photo frame (picture) 1,2,3 or more seconds long or shorter, iphoto will not let me do it!...
Listen.....the Ken Burns transitions are simply 'Superb", and they're all "automatic", and when I burn the whole thing onto iDVD, it really makes me look like a Pro, which I'm not, but I love the finished movie so much..
But, I'd like some frames (picture) to be timed longer or shorter then some others.
SO.....am I the only one who's got this friggin' problem or what?....
    Please respond with some solutions/answers...
    Thanks..
    Happy Memorial Day...

When you say you "enter" a time value, are you trying to type it in? I can't type in a value but I can use the up/down arrows to increase/decrease the value. Any chance this is your problem?
This one probably is not your problem, but some silly habit on my part: I automatically keep hitting the "Reset to defaults" button as if it is an "OK" button. I'm just supposed to close the window but some kind of automatic habit makes me click the Reset button and lose my adjust setting.
But when I finally use the adjust the way I'm supposed to, it does work for me.

  • Can't Burn WMV file created by Premier Elements 8

I organized a slideshow in Photoshop Elements 8 which then opened Adobe Premier 8. Adobe Premier 8 created a .WMV file of slide show. I have tried to burn the .WMV file using Ashampoo Burning 8. Ashampoo runs but in the end annouces DVD burn has failed. I can burn a CD so I dont think its Plextor drive. Ashampoo tech seems to be of no help. Am wondering if anyone else has trouble burning WMV files of slideshows?

    Thanks again.
I did as you suggested and I'm basically back to where I started.
I outputted a Pr8 slideshow to PrE.  I then burned the slideshow onto a DVD using the "share" function at PrE.
It is incredibly slow -- takes about 3 hours -- but it did burn the DVD.  I did this before on earlier versions of Elements (Pr6, I think), and now I remember why I stopped doing it.
The resulting DVD is not acceptable.  Two main problems.
First, instead of smooth, continuous panning and zooming, every single slide, after the fade transition, is still, and then it jerks into panning and zooming.
Second, the overall quality is not so great.  Lots of shimmer/jiggle during the panning and zooming, and a lot of general mushiness.  Text I've inserted onto slides often has really mushy edges.  I've completely given up trying to use a shadow color behind text because even though it looks good in the preview when I'm making the slideshow, on screen using the DVD, it just compounds the problem of the mushiness.
We have a brand new, high-end HP computer with Windows 7 with all programs and drivers fully updated, so I don't think there is a problem outside Adobe.
Because PrE generated DVDs that weren't so good (sorry) , I started saving the Pr8 slideshows as .wmv files and then trying to use Roxio to burn the .wmv file onto a DVD using its encoding.  Roxio generated one DVD that way that worked very well:  much sharper quality photos and text and smooth, continuous panning and zooming, but then Roxio started generating error messages at the end of the DVD-creation process and Roxio tech support tells me it is an unsolvable problem, so they're refunding my money.
I prefer Adobe anyway and only tried Roxio because of the problems with Adobe DVDs mentioned above.
So, is there any other way I can go about this within Adobe that will help solve the pan-zoom and mushiness problems?
I really appreciate your help.  It takes me many hours to create these slideshows of family vacations and it's very frustrating to then end up not being able to generate the end product - a quality DVD - at the end.

  • Database storage for video, movies and slideshows?

    hi all,
i am trying to see if there is software or a database that would let me organize my videos/slideshows/movies.
since i have ported to mac from PC i am seeing the following file types in my "video + slideshow" folder: wmv, pdf, 3gp, avi. mov, mp4 and m4v. my recollection is that these were either downloaded form the internet, created on some PC software or created using Keynote, Aperture or iPhoto.
i am also going to post on the adobe forum as i have purchase the Creative Suites package and if there is an adobe product that does this exceptionally well i would be happy to buy it.
THANKS in advance for any help or advice on this.

It's the same as adding an iframe, at least in the Mac version. If you want to add other media types, you can, but you'd need to manually enter the code or at least manually set the embed/object parameters. For more info, try googling things like "object embed WMV video" or similar. For instance:

  • PSE 4 on Mac, VCD or other Slideshow options?

I bought a Wacom tablet which comes with Photoshop Elements 4 for Mac and PC. I installed on Mac first and found some cool features like being able to export a slideshow in .wmv format which I would like to use.
I then installed it on my Mac and found that it is extremely limited compared to the Windows version. Is it just me or it the Mac version cut back? Can you even export to a video file on the Mac version? I can't find an option for it. I only see html slideshow options.
    Please help.

You have much more robust slideshow options on the mac already, in iphoto, imovie, idvd, so Adobe does not include these features in PE mac. You can, however create a pdf slideshow in PE in addition to the HTML ones.

  • What files does the slideshow create in Windows

I have just received a 60GB video ipod and am doing some homework before I go and start to load content. I am running Windows XP and have gone out and bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 to manage my pictures. Is this the only Win PC software that can work for creating slideshows? What extra files will this create, does it roll up the photos into a new large file with audio, is it just a pointer file for the ipod to understand where the pics are, what do I need to copy to my ipod apart from the actual pictures and what file do I run for the slideshow? If I have thousands of pictures, I presume I can just create separate slideshow files in the respective folders and then create a playlist of the slideshows? I thought I saw either wmv or pdf as the PC file formats that are created for the slideshows which I was a bit surprised at. Also, does the music I create for the slideshow remain separate or and just pointed to - can I use an mp3 file or do I ned aac (or is this just for video), or does it all get rolled up? Thanks for the newbie slideshow help. I've checked the forum but can't seem to find this info so hopefully I am not just repeating the questions.
    Cheers

I have Adobe Elements 4 I know you can save your Photo Slideshow in wmv format. I love the new "panning" effect in Elements 4, I think that's what you refer to as the "Slideshow Video". However, I think you need to check out Microsoft PhotoStory 3 (a free download from Microsoft website). I'm no Microsoft fan, but honestly, you can create a video photo slideshow/PhotoStory in less than 5 minutes. Unlike Photoshop Elements, PhotoStory 3 is much easier because it uses the "wizard" approach. Check it out. In no time, you can create the video slideshow, save it in .wmv format. Then I use a tool to convert the .wmv file to .mp4 file.
People who asked why you would want to make a slideshow video obviously miss out the latest fun in sharing photos as moving pictures!!! It's so much fun than just watching static pictures with music. It impressed my friends so much!

  • Error when exporting slideshow

First, the hardware: Intel iMac, 1.83GHz, 1G RAM, 130G HD (53G free).
Now, the problem: When I try to export a simple 4-picture slideshow (iPhoto 6.04) to Quicktime (7.1 Pro), the export progresses fine; when it's about to finish, the message "Your startup disk is almost full" appears (only on the first run of iPhoto), then the export fails with "An error occurred while exporting the slideshow". There is 53G of free space on the hard drive, so that's not the problem at all. Console shows the following error:
2006-08-08 11:46:17.930 iPhoto[563] Slideshow movie export failed with error code -47.
    slideshow max texture size 1536
I tried large and small size Quicktime export. These were images taken with a 2 megapixel camera (< 1M in size). I fixed permissions, and ran Onyx to clean caches, run cron tasks, etc., to no avail. I downloaded and installed the iPhoto 6.04 update - still no joy. I also created a new account (with admin privelages), and encountered the same error, so it's not an account level issue.
Aside from reformating the drive and starting over, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.<br>

Although not your problem it points out that the combo can fix a variety of issues. Just might do the trick. Be sure to follow that with a repair of disk permissions.

  • Flash not recognised by slideshow building programs only

    Hi All,
    Please offer me some advice.
Having installed Amara flash slideshow builder it failed to run stating my flash was not installed or out of date. I knew this was not the case but uninstalled and re-installed flash anyway. I tested it on the adobe site, all ok and also tested it on a couple of sites using flash. All ok. Same problem with Amara tho', not recognised.
So downloaded SWF 'n slide, another slideshowmaker. It also failed to recognise any flash installed (with dialog).
Following some research I downloaded SubInACL from microsoft and ran it to ensure all my permissions were ok, but seems they were ok as it hasn't changed anything. What do I do now? I'm kind of stuck, I really need a flash slideshow builder, but seems they won't run, why? Any help will be much appreciated.

  • PSE 8 vs PSE7 slideshow creation

I have successfully created slideshows in PS Elements 7.  After installing PS Elements 8, I no longer can produce a viewable slideshow.  Here is my procedure;  -- start the browser, -- select images to be included in the slideshow, -- , go to CREATE > Slideshow, select OUTPUT on the Slide Show Editor screen, then choose Save as a File , to make a WMV in NTSC format and hit OK, -- then name the slideshow file that is to be created on the Save SlideShow as WMV screen.  After creation, I am asked if I want to save the changes made to the slideshow--I answer YES.  A WMV file is created but it is unviewable -- when playing it, the screen is constantly black.  If I play it in the slideshow editor, the timeline advances properly but the preview window also remains black.

I am having a similar problem.  If I am in the slide show editor, and click the play button, the screen goes black, but I can see the thumbnails light up one at a time.
If I "output" a pdf slide show I can use it with no difficulty.  If I "output" a wmv file it is all black.
If I try to view a wmv from years ago that is in my catalog I do not have a problem.
    Any ideas?
Since my last successul slide show creation I have upgraded from PSE7 to PSE 8 and I have also upgraded Pinnacle Studio Plus to v12.  I am not using Studio right now, but wanted to be complete about what is on the system.
