PSE4 vs MAC OS 10.4.11.

Clicked on photo saved via PSE4. Message received was "The application PSE quit unexpectedly." Clicked on different photo. Same message. Clicked on PSE icon in dock. Same message. Clicked on application directly. Same message. Trashed application and all related files. Reinstalled PSE4. Clicked on application. Same message. Looked at upgrading application to PSE9. Operating system not compatible. Why, after many years of service, do I now have a problem with the application? What can I do to access the photos saved with PSE4?

Did you delete the preferences? You want to remove com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist, the PSE 4 Paths and Settings folders. Can't remember if they're Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 Settings or just Photoshop Elements 4 Settings (then Paths for the other one), but they'll be in your username>library>preferences folder. If you got those and repaired permissions and it still crashes, go into Applications>PSE 4>Plug-ins>import/export and delete the Adobe TWAIN driver. Note that if you have an Epson scanner it may not work right in PSE after doing this.

  • 'How to' book for Mac version of PSE4

Is there an basic guide published that caters for the Mac version of PSE4? Or am I right in thinking there's nothing currently available?

There is really not a huge difference between the Mac and PC version of any book -- it is a distraction, sure. But if you just make key substitutions (below) and ignore the Organizer stuff, the programs are virtually the same:
    Ctrl = Command (apple)
    Alt = Option
    Shift = Shift
    right-click = Control
If you just read through a book and make those substitutions most other things will fall in place (there is one additional annoying menu on Mac [I'm a Mac user at home, PC at 'work', so no flames] that being the Photoshop Elements menu. These are not additional items, but items moved from other menus--so if you can't find something in a PC book where it belongs, then look for it on that menu). Some people have more or less trouble with the differences between Mac and PC books--they don't bother me at all as I use Mac and PC every day (but curiously I can find myself temporarily lost when I use the one Mac we have at 'work').
Like Barbara said, I don't know that my book is the best to begin with as it does tend to be for advanced users. Some beginning users have had success with it, but it depends on their background (usually those with photography and computer backgrounds do fine).
Barbara...I just can't believe they are not re-printing a successful book! Obviously even the Elements 3 book is still selling. After all theese years in publishing, I still can't figure out the 'wizdom' of publishers. They have to make money, but they might as well make sense! I just finished my 7th book, and it might have been my last had I not done it for Focal Press. They were great to work with! But perhaps this is a discussion for off-list ;-).

  • PSE6 Mac Printing Colours darker than PSE4 - Adobe accepts problem  !Help!

*PSE6 Mac Printing Colours darker than PSE4 - Adobe accepts fault*
My work requires that when I create prints for artists I must replicate all the prints exactly everytime. It worked perfectly from PSE2, PSE3 and PSE4 but now......
I am unable to replicate quality of printing on MACOSX PSE6. it works great on PSE4. I mailed some printed images on art paper to adobe in amsterdam and a cd with the same images. After weeks of discussions phone, email and after testing using their work flow....they came back with some answers.
Finally a couple of replies from Adobe re colour problems and they have accepted that they are double managing the image and that I should use printer management to do the colour conversion.. here are their two replies and the comment that they will now drop me until???????

Your Customer Service Number is: 129800224

Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.

After consulting with my colleagues about the issue you raised, I can let you know the following:

The issue is both on our as well as the driver software side and the workaround we have given is the best available at this time. This issue is affecting all printers, not just Epson or Canon.

The soft proofing effect that you are seeing in the print preview is indeed an attempt at soft proofing. However since Photoshop Elements managed prints are incorrectly double colour managed it is not as useful as it was initially designed.

As to the exact details of why this occurred, we have no official information.

We believe that this will resolve the issues you are experiencing, however, should the reply not help solve the problem, please contact us again, quoting the case number given above, and we will re-open the case.

Subject: Re: Adobe TS #180107025 / Mario / PSE6 oversaturated Print (KMM3793441I51L0KM)

Dear Mr. Laugesen,

We have had word back from our engineers regarding your issue.

The Photoshop Elements team are aware of the problem and are working with Apple and the printer manufacturers to get this to work correctly. In the meantime, the only workaround is to switch off colour management in Photoshop Elements and let the printer handle the colour management.

Unfortunately we can not make an estimation as to when a fix will be provided. We will close the case for the time being as there really is nothing more we can do about this issue besides offering the suggested workaround. Closing this case does not mean that the research will stop however and the engineers are working on a solution to this.

  • Printing Multiple Photos per Page in Mac PSE4

I have PSE 4 for the mac. I would like to print 4 3.5 X 5 photos on an 8.5 X 11 sheet -- but I want them to be DIFFERENT photos, not 4 copies of the same photo.
I can't figure out how to do this. The picture package will print multiple copies of a photo per page, but not different photos. Is there a way?

Couildn't be simpler. Click a photo thumbnail in the Picture package window, then navigate to the photo you want in the window that opens, and that zone will be replaced with the new photo.

  • PSE4 (XP) - PSE13 (Mac) migration

I have my pictures organized on a Windows XP box (Service Pack 3) running PSE 4.0 and I have to migrate to Mac.  I have PSE 10 and PSE 13 on the Mac.  The migration instructions say that I have to have the same version running on both XP and MacOS. Unfortunately, PSE 13 evidently won't run on XP and I can't find a  trial version of PSE 10 to install on XP. How do I proceed?

First thank you, especially Barbara, for your help.  I have succeeded in creating the backup (complete with .tly !) I loaded the backup onto the Mac, and it seemed sucessful except...  There are a few photos for which the actual photo file is missing.  I'd like to clean these up.  If I click on one to do so it opens a window that says "Searching for missing file.  ... To locate the file yourself, click Browse" with Browse and Cancel buttons present.  There is a spinning rainbow disk.  Clicking on either Browse or Cancel does nothing and the disk continues to spin.  For hours.  I can kill PSE, but next time I open it and try to clean up the offending photo, the same thing happens.  Suggestions?

  • No support for pse4, need help with help and everything else. What's a layer? How can I get help PDF from CD? I don't have a clue how to use this. I have a Macbook pro.

Need help with help pse4 not supported by adobe. how to do topics not available and I have never used any thing like this. Help says there is a download but have not been able to get it. What's a rookie to do ? Is there somewhere I can go to find out how to use PSE4?

The internet is overflowing with tutorials on PSE. Just google what you want and include Photoshop Elements 4 as part of your search term, or  go to the library and they may have several different books on PSE 4. For PSE 4, you won't find a mac specific book, but that doesn't matter because the editor is the same on either program. Just substitute Command for Ctrl and Option for Alt in the keystrokes, and ignore anything about the organizer.

  • PSE for MAC and iPhoto - where to put files

I am new to PSE4 and Bridge. I have used iPhoto for about a year, and have thousands of pictures in the iPhoto Library. I want to use Bridge and Elements to tweak my photos from now on. But, I want to use iPhoto5 for some things, such as emailing photos, creating web pages for .mac, creating slideshows on DVD for TV use, etc.
My question is this: does anyone else use both? What is your method/workflow for bringing files (RAW for me) from the camera to the computer - iPhoto or Bridge?
Right now, iPhoto opens every time I plug my Nikon in, I close iPhoto, then open Bridge.
One of my worries is that if I open and save with Bridge, I have to import the photos into iPhoto to create anything there. I believe this will cause me to have doubles of every file I use in both programs. Since I am pushing 2000 for total photos, I would be using a lot of HD space.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

You can change your preferences for what happens when you connect your camera (card reader) to your Mac within Image Capture Preferences. If you set it for Image Capture you can then direct your images to a folder of your choice wherever you want it to be.
When you want to import specific images to iPhoto you can import them from the folders under File>Add to Library. In addition, if you have the iPhoto application open when you have your card reader connected for downloading to your folders, you can also copy them to iPhoto if you want as well.
BTW, 2000 photos is not considered a lot for the digital world. That's a day's shooting for some! You might want to consider an external hardrive for storing some of your images so you don't feel so constrained for space on your computer. It's a good idea in general for backing up file anyway.

  • Installing PS Element 11 on my Mac

I have PS Elements 4 installed on my Mac.  I have purchased PS element 11 and want to install it. I want to save disk space. Should I or can I remove PS 4 before installing 11?

Yes, you can uninstall PSE4, preferably before you install PSE11 (Otherwise they might end up sharing some file(s) that makes it chancy to uninstall afterwards).  If PSE11 is an upgrade purchase, you'll just need the serial number from PSE4 to get past the activation.  If you paid the full price for PSE11, no need for the serial number from PSE4.

  • Hi, I cannot open nef files in elements 4 for mac

    Hi,
I cannot open nef files in elements 4 for mac.

For the D3000 you need version 7 or higher. PSE4 is too old.
You would need to download the converter to change NEF to DNG to open them in PSE4

  • Migrating from PSE 5.0 Windows to PSE 6.0 Mac

I am trying to figure out how to migrate from PSE 5.0 for Windows to PSE 6.0 for Mac.
When I migrated from PSE4.0 to PSE5.0 (windows) I simply backed up and then restored the catalog.
I have backed up the catalog from PSE 5.0 but don't know how to import the info into PSE 6.0 for Mac. Being as there is no Organizer window in the Mac version I assume it is done via Bridge, but didn't see anything to restore a catalog.
Is it possible or do I just point Bridge at my photos and get it to create tags from the keywords embedded in the pics?
    All suggestions and hints welcome.

  • Use pse on my mac iosx

i want to use my pse4 on my new imac iosx!
Could anyone tell me how to?

What are you asking? There is no such thing as "iosx". If you have an ipad, iphone, or ipod, that runs iOS. If you have a mac it runs OS X. These are two totally different operating systems. You can't run any OS X software on iOS--you need apps written specifically for iOS.
If you have a new imac you can't run PSE 4 on it. PSE 4 hasn't been able to be installed in OS X since 10.5 and now it's up to 10.8. PSE 6 is the very oldest version that you can use, and that gets trickier to install with each OS X update. You would be better off with PSE 8 or later. But PSE 4 will not run. It's written for the old PPC architecture that apple used before it switched to intel many years ago. There is no way to run any PPC program in 10.7 or 10.8.

  • Can you download & install actions in Vista with PSE4

I have some actions that I had downloaded and installed on my old laptop that I would like to put onto my new one but this one uses Vista instead of XP and I am having trouble doing this. I have PSE4. Is this even possible with vista? Can anyone help me?

No, but the tracks may be in copy-protected Windows Media format (almost certainly the case if your friend bought them from a download music store other than the iTMS), in which case they won't play on a Mac at all. If they're MP3 tracks, start a new topic with the specifics and perhaps someone can help.
Don't Steal Music! Please make sure that all content (music, movies, etc.) you obtain from friends is legal for them to give you.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter and Mac mini (2009)

Can anyone tell me whether the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter listed here:
    http://store.apple.com/ca/product/M9319G/A
works with the latest Mac mini (early 2009)?
If it does not what other solutions are there to connect to composite, component or s-video?

    KC from Ann Arbor, MI had this to say as a review on the page to which you have linked;
    10-May-2009
I bought a Mac Mini (May 2009) and this Mini-DVI to Video adapter with plans to use it to send an S-video signal to an analog TV. Though the sales staff at the Apple store said it should work, it does not. The graphics card apparently should support it, and it may be addressed with a future driver update, but as of now this does not work. I have used a mini-DVI to VGA adapter and monitor to verify that the port is working, and also verified that the S-video cable and TV input work. There are third party VGA to S-video/RCA adapters available so I plan to use one of those for my purposes. This is probably a 5-star product when used with the right Mac; however, Apple should have made it clear that having a mini-DVI port on your Mac is necessary but not sufficient for this to work - hence the 3 stars.

  • Multiple Family Members using a MAC

    Hello,
Can someone give me an overview of how family members all use 1 MAC and ICloud so that each person gets their own "stuff"?  For example, I would like to get my calendar, my songs, my contacts, my apps synced with my devices--iphone and ipad.  And my wife would like her own stuff synced.  Seems pretty fundamental but I could not find any info from Apple.  Is there a way to do this if each person has a separate Apple ID?  What are other people doing?
    Thanks,
    Matt

If each person has a separate Apple ID, as you stated, it should be no problem. However, i'm not sure exactly how you have your computer set up, if you have separate User accounts set up, or if you just use one User account.
You should create a separate User account for each family member. Decide if you want those User accounts to be Administrator accounts, or if they are Standard accounts, and set your Parental Controls as desired. You can also find the Parental Controls settings in the System Preferences as well.
So once each User account is established, you can copy over only the information for them (i.e. contacts, iCal events, iTunes music, etc).
Set up to sync their iOS devices with iTunes with their information on their User accounts, with their own separate Apple IDs, and everything should work smoothly.

  • Install Windows 8.1 Pro on Mac Mini Late 2014

I'm trying to install Bootcamp on my Mac Mini.  Windows reports that it cannot install or create a partition on the drive after formatting the BOOTCAMP partition as NTFS.
    This is my setup:
    1. Mac Mini Late 2014 with 2TB Fusion Drive.
    2. Windows 8.1 Pro x64 full version ISO downloaded from Microsoft Store.
    3. Sandisk Extreme Flash Drive (I have tried both 16GB and 64GB).
    4. Bootcamp partition = 500GB.
    5. Other USB devices plugged in: Corded USB Mouse and Apple Extended Keyboard (both of which are required to enter the serial number and navigate the installer window).
    6. No additional storage devices of any kind are connected aside from the internal Fusion drive and the installer drive.
    7. Booting from the EFI portion of the Bootcamp created Windows installer.
I have read that I should try using a USB 2 flash drive rather than a USB 3 flash drive, so I will try that next.  I fail to understand how this could make any difference.
If you have any other tips, please let me know.
I have installed or helped other people install bootcamp many times over the course of the past 2 years.  Every single time it has caused endless headaches and literally weeks of wasted time.
I have read endless posts on what is causing these problems.  I will consider summarising these for anyone else having the same problems.  Everyone has their theory so far about this Bootcamp nightmare, but so far there doesn't appear to be any one magic solution.
Apple's inability to address the issue suggests that the problem may be with the Windows installer.  Perhaps Microsoft is deliberately causing this?
I suspect the two most likely causes of these issues are the downloaded ISO or the Thumb Drive.
If you have any better idea, please let me know.
On another topic, how to I rename the NTFS partition back to BOOTCAMP?  All options to rename this partition are greyed out in Disk Utility...
    Cheers,
    Paul

    Paul@Sydney wrote:

The FAT32/NTFS partition is usually not adequate for an EFI install. You can delete the BCA-created partition and create a Disk Utility partition which is formatted as Free Space. This will be split into an MSR and MSD. Fusion drives create problems, especially if the BC partition lies outside the traditional MBR 2TB boundary.
Before you delete the BCA-created partition, please post the output of
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk1

Windows installers up to W8.1 do not have USB3 drivers. These are installed after Windows is installed and BC drivers are in place.

The requirements are pretty strict when installing Windows. Any deviations cause headaches and grief.
I suspect the two most likely causes of these issues are the downloaded ISO or the Thumb Drive.
The USB is usually the issue.
On another topic, how to I rename the NTFS partition back to BOOTCAMP?  All options to rename this partition are greyed out in Disk Utility...
After Windows is fully installed and BC drivers are in place, log into Windows, right click on it and rename it on the Windows side. It cannot be renamed on the OSX side with diskutil renameVolume. Here is an example sequence. You cannot rename volume during the installation process.
