PSE5 To Bridge

My computer crashed and I did not have a catalog backup. I used Elements 5 organizer and CS3 is my editor. Wish I had known I could transfer all of my catalog to Bridge before the crash.
Is there a way I can retrieve my catalog from my old hard drive which I have saved on my new computer.
There are many PSE5 folders called catalog. All of my thousands of photographs were tagged but I cant open any of the catalog folders in PSE5 which I have installed on my new computer.
All assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mairi

  • Lightroom, PSE5 organizer, Bridge and CS4

I currently use the PSE5 organizer with CS3.
I plan on upgrading to CS4.
My question is can I finally ditch the PSE5 organizer for either the new Bridge with CS4 or Lightroom 2.0?
Bridge with CS3 did not nearly provide enough organizing capabilities nor import PSE5 organizer catalogs. And then the prior version of Lightroom would not always properly import catalogs from PSE5 (which I still find hard to believe).
And the prior version of Lightroom also seemed to have problems importing catalogs. I also did not like that it wrote metadata to JPEG's as soon as you OPENED them. I have not confirmed whether Lightroom 2 corrects this or at least gives you that option. Is it an option now and how does it do importing catalogs from PSE5?
Thanks for any input on these concerns,
    BJBBJB

Thanks Jon.  Hopefully this is changed in the new version.<br /><br />I know that some very technical users confirmed that although the last version of Lightroom was "non-destructive", it did in fact write some metadata to the JPEG if opened (or I believe elsewhere I read even if just included in the libary, even if not edited. If this is incorrect, please let me know.  For example in PSE Organizer, it will only write anything to JPEG's if you invoke the command.<br /><br />Here is what I am talking about from a post about Lightroom:<br />http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/2008/qa-is-lightroom-destructive-to-jpegs/<br /><br />John Nack discuses a related issue here:<br />http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2007/02/nondestructive.html<br />To that point I would like to have the option of writing JPEG alterations to a sidecar file vs. directly into the JPEG file also.<br /><br />As to the first issue, you have to read down to the quotes to get to the discussion in question.  I saw this elsewhere also.  The point is, it changes the file date, messes with backups/syncs, etc.<br /><br /><Lightroom DOES actually make changes to your original .jpg file, but those changes Do Not effect the actual image. When you edit a .jpg file in Lightroom, EXIF and IPTC data is written to the .jpg file. (As well as edit meta data if you have that option enabled.) This can be a good thing as key words, copyright data, etc are added, but as a side effect, the file is re-saved and the date & time on the actual .jpg file is changed. This date & time change is annoying to me as I prefer that my original .jpg files not be changed from the date & time the image was captured. The date & time on a RAW file is not changed when I open it in Lightroom, why should Lightroom change this on my .jpg files? I found a workaround, which is to mark all of my original .jpg files as Read Only in the operating system before ever opening them in Lightroom. This works, but I do not feel that this is a very elegant solution, and I now have no way to open an edited .jpg in Camera Raw and retain the edits I made in Lightroom><br /><br />Thanks,<br />BJBBJB

  • Importieren katalog PSE5 in bridge CS3

Ich arbeite mit PSE 5 und möchte auf CS3 umstellen. Wie kann ich meinen Katalog mit tags und Sammlungen in bridge importieren? Das backup wird nicht erkannt.

    Maureen,
    I feel your pain! :)
Yes I have seen that option of writing info to the image metadata. However I don't think it allows you to maintain version stacks and other stacks. Those are also huge to me. I have a similar number of images in a catalog.
One thing you need to be aware of is that when you tell PSE to write that metadata to the image, it changes the system file date (last modified date) of that image. That is a huge negative to me. Although I understand you can still see the image "picture taken date" in the metadata, I use backup software that keys off of the system file date to determine what images need to be synced. I guess I could do it in one big migration....but then, I am not sure I am so confident or happy about having PSE writing data to 1,000's of my original images!!! I mean that catalog is known to get corrupted once in a while! I also like seeing the system file date in windows explorer when browsing images outside of the organizer and knowing those are the dates I put them on my system. If I write all of the tags, all the "last modified" dates will be the date the tags are written.
I really find it very perplexing that does not provide a bullet-proof upgrade path from the PSE organizer to Lightroom and/or Bridge.
How silly is it to pay the prices required to obtain CS3 or CS4, and perhaps Lightroom, and then having to go get the current version of PSE just to maintain a catalog!!
Hopefully a patch or utility will be forthcoming to allow a migration that works. The thought of having to re-stack and re-edit notes for all of my images is not even in the realm of possibility....

  • PSE5 organizer-like timeline display/search option in Bridge?

I'm a former PS elements organizer (PSE5) user who recently was forced into using Bridge once we upgraded new comps & bought CS4. I still am having trouble getting my keywords to work correctly in Bridge after I migrated all the pix - but that's not the reason for this post. Anyway, I'm still trying to make Bridge work for me as well as PSE organizer did (after 2 months of using Bridge and I'm still nowhere close). One thing that really helped me out was PSE's click-able timeline that went across the top of the window. I could click on any given month/year and it would take me to whatever I shot that month. It is an excellent feature when you have to find pix fast and you didn't adequately keyword your pix but know *when* you shot them. I can't for the life of me find anyway to display pix in this manner.
    Help?

As John said you can sort dates with the filter, but it will only display photos in that folder sorted by date.
If you want all the pictures shot in May 2008 displayed only, the filter will not do it.  You can however uses the Find function (Ctrl F) set up like this.
Set up 2 lines (click on + to add a line).   In first line have it read "Date Created, is greater than, 04/01/2008"
On second line have it read "Date Created, is less than, 05/01/2008"
Set match at "If all criteria met".
Not quite as easy as PSE5, but hey that's progress!  Or is it regress?
Note: when using the Find (search) make sure all lines are filled in correctly.  If you have a blank line it considers that part of search criteria.

This is for CS3, do not know if there were any changes in search capabilities for CS4.

  • Bridge Vs. Photoshop Elements 5.0 Organizer

I posted something similar in the PSE forum without any feedback.
I've used PSE for a while through many versions and have many pictures in the catalog. However I really mostly use the version sets and stacks. A few notes here and there but nothing extensive regarding grouping photos, locations, etc.
I am now moving to CS3 and of course Bridge. I have demo'd it and also read what I can regarding this issue. I understand that importing catalogs into Bridge can be problematic. Although the problems seem less with PSE5??
Anyway, the catalog database is always finicky for me. I always back up the relevant folders because sometime over a span of 3 to 4 months during heavy editing sessions, with it open, it will get confused, corrupted, whatever. And I need to bring back the catalog folders. (Not a restore of all the pix, just the database folders).
It looks like the Bridge database is more robust. And I *know* it is not meant to be a replacement for the PSE organizer. I guess the question is, if I only use the stacks, version sets, and a few notes, for my use, could it be a replacement for my needs???
I just don't like that feeling of not being confident in the catalog database. I know I can send pictures from the PSE catalog to either PSE or Bridge with a few keyboard shortcuts. Although I think I read that if I change the filename or something in CS3 that the PSE catalog will not "remember it" in the version set. They could have integrated these better??? OR at least allowed a more bulletproof import feature.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Lightroom take the place of Bridge?

I am moving over from Photoshop Elements 5 to CS2.
Question, does Lightroom take the place of Bridge.
    Thanks you;

LR has a completely different approach to workflow than Bridge/ACR - that's the first thing you have to realize. Prior to LR (and using Aperture for a short time), I had developed a workflow using Bridge/ACR and iViewMedia Pro (for the DAM), but that workflow was twisted a bit from what I would have wanted, because it had to fit B/A/iV. And it wasn't what I would call "streamlined!"
Now, LR has a better workflow for me than B/A/iV. Oh, it has a few (some will say "a lot") shortcomings, but I am confident that they will be ironed out. I did have to alter my old workflow to fit LR (e.g. file and folder naming conventions during import) but that was just a matter of changing what I was used to; it wasn't a step down.
I have CS2 but that isn't part of the regular workflow. I only jump to it when an image needs some major correcting. So when you say you are moving to CS2, I think what you should really do is test out LR's demo, and don't just give up because it doesn't work like PSE5. Like I said earlier, LR is very different.
And in my opinion, for photography, yes - LR takes the place of Bridge. However you have to realize that Bridge is more "generic" in the sense that other users, graphic artists for example, also use Bridge, but in a different way. And, I believe, those working with web pages can also use Bridge for their organization. But for photography, I think LR trumps Bridge.

  • Transfering files from PSE5 organiser to CS4

I have been tempted by Adobe to upgrade from PSE5 to CS4 at a reasonable price. I have about 6,000 individually named photos in pse5 organiser / pse5 "collections". If I upgrade to CS4 what do I need to do to process these organiser/collections images in CS4? Is there a way to transfer all these files, and keep their names/metadata, to CS4? In pse5 "organiser" I can locate any photo by typing in a key word from the photo title; can I do this in CS4 using my present pse5 files?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Malcolm

Bear in mind that the image files do not "belong" to PS Elements they are just on your hard drive where you put them. They don't have to be transferred as you put it.
I am not familiar with PSE but there is a function to export the keywords in a format which can be read by Photoshop proper. They will be available in Bridge where you can organise things.
Sorry to be a bit vague but there is more information in the Bridge forum.

  • Error Message: Need to purge Cache in Adobe Bridge CC (on PC)

I tried purging using Adobe Bridge by going to Edit/Preferences/Cache then purging, but it becomes non responsive.  The error message said the problem files were at Users/(my user name)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/BridgeCC/Cache.   There are 4 files in there that are taking up 124 GB!  Can I simply delete these files or will it corrupt my regular files?  I tried doing as some other forums suggested and hold the ALT key down when opening Bridge before purging, but no luck.

Yes, you can delete the cache files manually,  Just be advised that Bridge will become very, very slow until it finishes rebuilding its caches.  Depending on your files, that can take a few minutes or several hours.
A good way of doing it is at night, so you can do it before going to bed and let Bridge rebuild caches overnight.
If you can, save the cache files before deleting them to an external drive, so that you'll have them as backup if something goes wrong.

  • In adobe bridge in Tools menu below the cache submenu it only says "process collections in Photoshop". It does not give me the option to "load images in layers is Photoshop"

No tengo la opción de cargar imagenes en capas en photoshop desde adobe bridge en el menu herramientas

If all the items do not appear, consider resetting Bridge Preferences.
Close Bridge, hold down Command-Option-Shift (PC: Control-Alt-Shift) and then launch Bridge again. A dialog will appear asking what you want to do. Turn on the Reset Preferences checkbox and click OK. Now when Bridge appears, the preferences are factory-fresh.

  • Adobe Bridge in advertising agency

    Hello,
i work in advertising agency Made by Vaculik (formerly Vaculik Advertising), we are located in Europe/Slovakia/Bratislava and we was using Adobe Bridge since CS2 release. CS3 was longest used and we was VERY satisfied with its technology. Creative, graphics and DTP department worked closely on each project, every save was synchronized with our server with name of user etc. It was much better environment than find latest version on someone's computer. But since CS6 it is not longer supported internal servers, only cloud engine. We are ad agency that primarily sells ideas and we simply cannot store our data on external servers, so i and my collegaues are VERY surprised that this technology was changed to different target group. We was probably first bigger agency who used this technology in Czech and Slovak republic and nowadays we are searching for similar solutions for our needs, but for example we are preparing really some YEARS to implement Alfresco with JIRA, but it got many problems. So what Adobe, really we are only agency in the world who missed Bridge to use with our internal servers? Cheers.

  • PhotoShop CS2 Bridge caused strange loss of desktop visibility/memory ??

I have a G5 (Duel) running Tiger 10.4.6. Just lately the Bridge in Photoshop CS2 has not been working too well - it became very slow and sometimes didn't "see" my images. Yesterday I could get it to find my image folders at all. Then all my desktop started to look weird - even when I wasn't using the Bridge. So I closed all the applications and restarted the computer. To my horror all my desktop and preferences (dock, safari, desktop picture, folders etc.) had been lost. At first I thought I had somehow lost all my image folders but using spotlight I found them all there - distribted in places I had never put them. I sorted everything out again and re-did all my customised stuff but it was scary! At no time did the computer give me any warning of any trouble. It did not crash or anything. I was running QuarkXpress 5 (classic 9) as well and had a Skype window open (although I wasn't using it to talk at the time) Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this happened - has it happened to anyone else ? Thanks for any help.. Diana

    Hi jamba,
I think the issue is that your output of lspci shows no Audio device. Perhaps it got disabled in the BIOS? dmesg output may indicate something else afoot with your audio hardware.
    Hope that helps.
I'll check out dmesg output.  also still need to check if something got disabled in the BIOS.
!snd_intel8x0m  <- is your problem. Your sound module got blacklisted so un-list it. Modprobe it then try sound again or just reboot and it should work.
moonswan.  snd_intel8x0 is the sound card (I think), in the alsa wiki it said it was recommended to blacklist snd_intel8x0m as a quirk fix.
No sound with or without it blacklisted still :-(

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 for mac: export modules, facebook export module gives an error every time i try to sign in

in the export module for facebook every time i click "sign in to facebook" it gives the following error: "An error occurred while request facebook connection"

"An error occurred while request facebook connection"
The export module has been discontinued in Bridge CC and as long as it has been there the option for social media has worked only for FB in a few countries. Due to rights management (as we where told) there where restrictions for most other countries. But if it did work for you in the past you should try click on FB in export module or use the tiny menu icon in the export panel for preferences and try to set up a new connection.

  • Adobe bridge raw not working with windows vista in photoshop cc, why?

adobe bridge raw not working in photoshop cc, is there a fix?

Your sure your using photoshop cc on windows vista?
I was under the impression that photoshop cc would not even install on windows vista.
What version of camera raw do you have?
In photoshop under Help>About Plugin does it list Camera Raw and if so which version is it?
(click on the words Camera Raw to see the version)
Camera raw doesn't work if it's a camera raw file or some other file type such as jpeg or tif?
What camera are the camera raw files from?
Officially camera raw 8.3 is the latest version of camera raw that will work on windows vista.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 stalls in Photoshop...

I downloaded CS6 Design Standard from Adobe webpage and have tried several times to get mini bridge/bridge to run, but the message 'Waiting for Bridge CS6' runs for hours. I am using a 64-bit Dell desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium. I have tried option 4 on Error: Waiting for Bridge | Mini Bridge panel, but nothing changes on deleting the Switchboard from the registry. Some folks here have suggested looking up bridge.exe in the Task Manager, but my task manager doesn't even show it up.
I would appreciate help, and soon.

Well… that's your expectation.  Did you pay for the download? During the first 30 days you'd be entitled to your money back, but it's been a heck of a lot longer since Adobe demanded or accepted any mnoney for "CS6 Design Standard".  If you just recently acquired that obsolete suite, it was certainly not through a legal purchase from the Adobe store.

I haven't got a clue what you mean by that nonsensical grammatical construction, nor does that question seem to have anything to do with your original post.    ??? ?? ?
Also, please remember you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forums.  You are requesting help from volunteers users just like you who give their time free of charge. No one has any obligation to answer your questions.
