PSE6 on my mac

I have been using PSE6 on my imac.  Suddenly, this morning, my computer says it is not supported.  This is also true of Bridge.  What is going on?  Am I losing all of the photos as well as the application?

Have you upgraded an existing installation to lion?
How could you lose photos? Neither PSE nor Bridge store anything.

  • PSE6 windows to mac?

ok so I have pse6 for my windows pc. I recently got a mac and want to move my photoshop over to it. is this possible in anyway? I couldnt install it from the disk but thats obvious and i tried downloading the free trial and entering the register key but that didnt work either. Do i have any more options or what???

Well, Adobe does offer a crossgrade, but normally only from the current win version to the current mac version or vice versa. However, since you have the same version already, it's worth a call to adobe sales (NOT customer support). At worst they can only say no.
But the disc is not going to be cross platform unless you got it as a bundle with a tablet or something. You'll need a new version for your mac.

  • PSE6 for the Mac and a Snow Leopard question.....

Hi- I am beta testing Snow Leopard and would like to test my PSE6 app in Snow Leopard but I am having an issue with what I need to copy over from the working version in Leopard over to Snow Leopard. Just dragging the folder is not enough since I get a message saying something like it's not authorized- sorry I can't remember the exact wording but I am hoping someone can tell me what files I need to copy over to SL. Thanks! Judy

For any time, any version of OS X you must totally reinstall PSE rather than moving it. The PSE installer puts things in far too many locations for the migration assistant to find them all and many are at a system level where only Root could move them. Far easier just to run the installer again.

  • Migration PSE 5 PC to PSE6 Mac

    Hello,
I have PSE5 on a PC and it works well (about 15000 photos)
I would like to know what is the best way to move to PSE6 on a mac. I read that the organizer is not the same between PC and mac.
And I realized that the function "write keyword tag and properties info to photo" is not the solution because it is bugged and it doesn't insert info in raw file (NEF and CRW).
So I wonder what are Adobe's recommandations for the migration?
    Thanks a lot
    Best regards
    PS : PC Vista RAM 2Go PSE 5.0.2 french _ Imac OSX 10.5.2 RAM 2Go (waiting for PSE6 ;-)

For what it's worth, iPhoto didn't leave me with enough configurability of the library. Though I wanted a "referenced library" (ie. the library contains pointers to files not files themselves) every time I "modified" a photo, it would get copied from its original location INTO the iPhoto library. Thus my modified files didn't enjoy the luxury of the automatic back-up by my NAS.
As I mentioned in my previous post I wrote out all the meta-data from PSE to the files themselves. I was trying to avoid this since an incremental backup would now backup 100% of my photos. At this point I have my offsite backup disabled as it would eat all my upstream bandwidth for days. Oh well.
For organization of photos on the Mac I bought Aperture. I was reluctant to do so because of the price and the absence of the more "toy-ish" features like calendars and other creations. The learning curve is pretty steep too (especially considering its an Apple product) and its UI is a bit different from either PSE or iPhoto.
BUT now that I've adjusted, woohoo! It rocks. I can do my work 10 times faster in Aperture than I could with PSE for PC.
Aperture can do red-eye correction, touch-ups (ie. remove blemishes), and the searching on metadata is far more powerful than PSE. Aperture doesn't have "adjustment layers" per se, but it does have analogous adjustment panels which can do levels/brightness/contrast/white&black point, vignette, noise reduction, and more. Aperture also exposes an API for export plugins (something I had asked Adobe for back in the PS Album days). So you can quickly upload photos to Flickr, Picasa, Facebook, PHP Gallery, etc...
Right now my setup is Aperture+GIMP. I'll probably get Elements or CS3 -- but that'll probably be AFTER I get a Nikon D300 *drool*

  • PSE6 for MAC - How to launch the Organizer?

I have changed from PSE5 on Windows to PSE6 on a Mac. When I opened PSE5 a screen would pop up to ask if I wanted the Editor or the Organizer. If I chose the Editor and later needed my organizer, I could click on the PSE5 icon and the same choice screen would come up.
When I opened PSE6 on our new mac (yes, I'm a mac newbie) it automatically opened the Editor and I cannot find how to launch the organizer. when I click on the PSE6 icon again it just takes me right back to my open Editor.
Any help on how to launch my organizer would be greatly appreciated!

I have to say that gives me a sick feeling in my stomach! I use PSE for digital scrapbooking and have all my backgrounds and embellishments categorized by color and element type (thousands of them). I really thought I'd be able to import my catalog.
Thank you for your help - at least I can end my search for the organizer.

  • Upgrade problems PSE10 for mac from PSE6

I've just upgraded from pse6 for the mac to pse10 for the mac. Installation went ok, but now pse10 operates very slowly: 2-3 minutes to delete a file, for example. My catalog is listed as having 68,000 items, and this may be the reason for the slow down. I created several new catalogs based on the folders in folder view, but I don't know how to move the desired files to them (I've searched the forums). Do you think this will solve my problem, or is something else going on? I have all my images stored on an external drive, and my OS is 10.6.8.

Bridge and organizer are totally different kinds of programs. Bridge is just a browser. It totally doesn't care what you do with your photos outside of bridge, just shows you the current state of any folder you point it to, unlike asset managers like iphoto, organizer, LR, aperture, where you must let the program take over managing your photos from now on. For instance, you can look at a folder in bridge, move half a dozen photos out of it in the finder, then next time bridge just shows a folder with 6 less photos in it.
Organizer is like iphoto, aperture, lightroom: an asset manager. If you use one of these programs you commit to letting it manage your photos for you. If you use organizer and then move photos from outside organizer, it will have a hissy fit and run around waving its hands in the air and bleating that it can't find them again. You must do everything--deleting, moving, renaming--from inside the organizer if you want it to know where your photos are. On the plus side, organizer lets you save many different edited versions of your photo in a way that takes up much less space than saving an actual new copy each time. When you use an asset management program, the idea is to forget about where the photos are stored and use tags and categories to find them when you want them. Many people believe this is much superior to folders. You could make tags and categories and sub-categories instead of the folder names you currently use.
Also, the folder view in the organizer is pretty buggy as well as inefficient. My advice would be to forget about folders if you want to use organizer, and to forget about organizer if you must have a folder-based system.

  • After Mavericks update I lost photos that had been edited in PSE6

Using PSE6 I updated Mac to OSX Mavericks and over 80 of my recently edited pics disappeared.  In PSE6 I can click on open recently edited and only 20 of the previous 80 edited pictures show there.  Does anyone know how to find the rest of my photos?  I did back up to external hard drive before installing new OS.  Apple can't help me.

I have never gotten the edit in photoshop to work properly in the
elements 8 organizer. I have the same problems you describe and while
there might be an easy solution, i haven't found one.
In the elements 7 and 9 organizers, everthing works fine as far as
the edit in photoshop function goes.
Since you say you have not activated elements 8, does that mean
you just wanted elements for the organizer?
You might do just as well downloading the pse9 trial and see if
it works any better, which for me it does. The elements 9 version
even opens camera raw files with the dialog into cs5, unlike previous
    versions of the organizer.

  • Mac: Elements 8 missing printer profiles

Hi guys, I tried printing an image using Elements 8 yesterday, having upgraded from 6 on my Mac. Strangely, it didn't bring up any of the manufacturer printer profiles, nor my custom made one, when I tried to print and select them under colour management.
Elements 6 would simply look to my ColorSync library to find profiles, what's 8 doing? How do I point it in the right direction?

Barbara.   forgot to mention the reason that some people got better colours letting the printer manage the colour conversion was that ADOBE admitted to me in an email that they had a known problem with PSE6 on the MAC.   Initially they said it happened to all printers as shown in quote 1.  Later on.  finally they said only Epson had the problem.  Printing seemed to improve significantly for me when Converting from Tiger to Leopard.
    Quote....1.
    Dear Sir,
Here is the Feedback from my engineers::
    Previous Research::
Apologies for the delay but I had to get some replacement inks for my printer as well as a time window to test this properly. I have now tested this with a Canon i990 and Ilford Smooth pearl paper using both Photoshop Elements 4 & 6 and the latest printer driver on a PowerMac G5 running OS X 10.4.11. I have a custom profile for the paper and ink combination and use this throughout. I used the ole no moire test file which includes a good full colour palette in the image as well as 10 - 100% ink densities for CMYK inks.
I can now confirm your observations and can clearly see that when Photoshop Elements manages the colours under 4, the reproduction is fairly close to the regional you see onscreen. Letting the printer manage colours under Photoshop Elements 4 gave terrible results - nothing like the original with a strong orange cast in the colours.
In Photoshop Elements 6, letting the printer manage the colors, a fairly accurate result was obtained, potentially better than the Photoshop Elements 4 when it managed the colours. Let Photoshop Elements 6 manage the colours and the results are as the customer described, far more saturated. In fact, the 80-100% square for both Cyan and Magenta colours were the same in intensity which would explain the oversaturated look.
    Concluding Research::
I have now heard back from engineering and the. It would appear that this is an issue with he printer driver not doing what it claims to be doing - even though printer driver claims colour management is turned off, it is still colour managing the print. The result is that if you set Photoshop Elements to colour manage, it will be double colour managed. The Photoshop Elements team are aware of this issue and are working with Apple and the printer manufacturers to get this to work correctly.
In the meantime, the only workaround is to switch off colour management in Photoshop Elements and let the printer handle the colour management. Using this workflow, I got some good colour matching from Photoshop Elements, although it is not identical to the results obtained in Photoshop Elements 4, it is close.
    Yours Sincerely,
    Mario Biondic

    Dear Mr. Laugesen,
We have had word back from our engineers regarding your issue.

Unfortunately we can not make an estimation as to when a fix will be provided. We will close the case for the time being as there really is nothing more we can do about this issue besides offering the suggested workaround. Closing this case does not mean that the research will stop however and the engineers are working on a solution to this.

  • Annoying behavior - PSE6 sets itself as default for edited files

Greetings. I'm running PSE6 on a Mac. When I edit a file, PSE sets itself as the default program for that file. For example, if I edit and save a jpg, the next time I double-click on that jpg it will open in PSE instead of my default graphics viewer. That's annoying and time-consuming. Is there any way I can configure PSE to stop doing that? Thanks!

Please excuse me, that didn't come out the way I meant it. I wanted to say that:
    1) I double-click a jpg and it opens with Xee (or whatever).
    2) I edit the file in PSE and do "Save as".
    3) When I double-click on the new jpg, it opens with PSE. Other jpgs continue to open in Xee.
So I can't see what Finder has to do with it. When PSE saved the file, it made itself the default program for that file, irrespective of the default program for that type of file.

  • Migrating from PSE for Windows 6 to PSE for Mac 6 including metadata

Can't find anything in the knowledge base on this.
I am giving up on Windows. Its just too messy and ugly. One of the final changes will be migrating from MS Windows Vista and PSE 6 to a brand new Mac, using LEopard 10.5.2 and PSE for Mac 6.
I want to migrate my images from the Windows machine, as well as the metadata organizing information. Surely I am not the only one with this need. I know I can save the mages in a mutually readable file format, export, and have them on the Mac, but I have a great deal of metatdata and image organization in the Windows version of PSE 6.
Please tell me how to migrate the entirety of PSE for Windows to my new Mac.
    Thanks.....

Some related questions-- can Bridge CS3 search sub-folders? Could I filter for a Keyword at the top of a tree, and locate all files with that keyword in sub-folders?
While exporting files from PSA2 on a PC I am using Share / Email to attach my existing keywords. Can they be drag-and-drop added to a Hierarchy in the Keywords panel? (Either from the Filter panel where they are automatically listed and counted, or from the "Other" location in the Keywords panel where they appear italicized?)
I had deluded myself into believing that PSE6 for the Mac included Organizer. Would Lightroom be a logical option for organizing? Particularly if I want to catalog many images on CD without storing them on disk? Can it be purchased separately? What other options would you recommend?

  • Unable to install PSE 8 on iMAC G5 OS 10.4.11

I am running OS X  10.4.11 and can't get PSE 8 to  install. I've tried all weekend. I am not running Safari at any  time and not at start up.  I  load the PSE 8 DVD; open the setup.app;  the PSE8 splash screen opens an  says its loading; and another Installer  Alert (blank) window opens on top. Then the app cranks on for hours...last  time I let it run for 3 hrs and no install happened.
This is the  worst PSE install ever.  I succesfully  installed PSE6 on my MAC;  installed PSE8 on my Dell; and installed Word  2007 on the MAC w/ no  problems.  Any ideas on what I shoudl try next?
Adobe  support was not  helpful....they wanted me to try the SW on another MAC  computer.  What?  Like I have a spare MAC sitting around for sofware  testing?

Unfortunately, PSE 8 is Intel only. It will not install on a G5.
The system requirements from Adobe's PSE 8/mac product page:
    System requirements
    Multi-core Intel® processor
    Mac OS X v10.4.11 through 10.5.8 or Mac OS X v10.6
    512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)

  • Save/Save As Confusion

I am a newbie to PSE6 for the Mac & have a very remedial question. Please bear with me.
I store & organize my images in iPhoto '09 and want to edit them in PSE. If I edit a JPEG & click the Save icon, the edited image seems to return to its original location in iPhoto. That's fine. However, if I want to save the edited image as a TIFF, I select Save As & choose TIFF format. But it does not seem like I have the choice to save the edited image back in its original location in iPhoto. Is that correct?
Basic question: How can I change the file format of an image in PSE & then save it in its original location in iPhoto?
    Thanks for your patience.

To have images saved as a version, you cannot change either the name or the format. If you do so, you must import the changed photo as a new one.

  • PSE 6 Layer Mask & OS 10.6.2

I'm looking to add layer mask capability to PSE6 on a mac with Snow Leopard and have seen the download from here:
    http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pselements/qt/layermasktool.htm
but the instructions specifically reference OS 10.4 and 10.5 but not Snow Leopard:
"Mac Installer: Download and Run Layer_Mask_Tool.dmg for Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5. Special thanks to Andrew Bartlett for creating the installer package for Macintosh."
Can anyone confirm if this does/doesn't work with Snow Leopard?  Is there another solution for OS 10.6?
    thanks

  • "convert to black and white" crashes PSE6 in mac

    Hello.
until today, this worked flawlessly. But now, when I go to the "convert to B&W menu, the usual different B&W modes menu doesn't show up anymore, the picture instantly converts, then PSE6 crashes and has to be force quit.
It might have to do with the automatic adobe camera raw 4 update that downloaded itself today, and which keeps saying that the update cannot be found when it tries to install.
    Any hint is appreciated.
    Thanks!
    mac pro,  OSX leopard

Nothing downloaded itself. The updater can never update ACR, only tell you when there's a new version. You have to download and install ACR manually in PSE. I would suggest using the prefs button in the updater window to turn off automatic updates, since the only thing it ever really updates is Adobe Reader.
Try deleting the preferences: quit PSE, then restart it while holding down command+shift+option. Keep holding the keys till you see  a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • PSE6 on Mac OS 10.6.2

    Hi
I have recently been experiencing a lot of problems with PSE6 on Mac OS 10.6.2.
When I initially installed the snow leopard update (10.6.2) PSE6 worked perfectly fine. However while attempting to save a layer file, PSE6 crashed on my and has not been able to open since. I have been in contact with Adobe support on numerous occasion but they now have closed this case stating the PSE6 does not work on Snow Leopard v 10.6.2. Can anyone please advise if they are able to operate PSE6 on the same system?
Alternatively I am considering upgrading to PSE8 but I do not know if I purchase the upgrade version whether I will have a similar issue when installing this new version.
I would really appreciate advise on this matter, as i have not been able to open PSE since before December and would really like to work on some recently taken photographs.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Barbara
    Many thanks for you response.
Unfortunately I have tried both of the steps you recommended but have had no luck. (thought I could not find Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 paths or opera preferences in my preferences to delete)
I have attached the latest crash report, which might shed some light on why PSE continues to crash.
Many thanks for your help with this.
