PSE6 - Saving RAW images as JPEG

I am new to PSE6. I have a Pentax K10D dslr, which can create raw images in either the Pentax proprietary PEF format or Adobe's DNG format.
I have downloaded the latest version (4.4.1) of Adobe Camera Raw. PSE6 opens and processes either type of raw file with no problem.
My problem comes when I try to save the file. I click on "File" - "Save As". There is a line to specify the file name, and a pull-down menu with several file types. Standard JPEG is not included in the list. JPEG 2000 is in the list, but when I save the file in that format, the resulting file is more than 3 times the size of the original raw file. None of my other software knows what to do with a JPEG 2000 file, either.
Have I done something wrong? Am I missing something? Must I save the file in its original format (PEF or DNG) and then use some other program to convert it to JPEG, so that I can send it somewhere to be printed?

You have to convert the file to 8bits/Channel. You can either do that in
ACR or in the Editor (>Image >Mode).

  • Saving RAW edits as JPEG - is it okay if...?

Just wanted to get some expert opinion on whether saving RAW edits as JPEG is advisable.
I understand that every time you save a JPEG, there is some loss/degradation, whereas TIFF is loss less. However, given the huge size of TIFF tiles, my thinking is that saving them as JPEG is okay as long as if I want to make subsequent edits, I revert to the original (RAW) and re-do the edits.
Is there any downside to this logic?

iPhoto does not keep resaving the same JPG over and over. Instead it applies the new edits to the original file and recreates a new JPG. So no matter how many times you edit the file, you are only one generation removed from the RAW file.
iPhoto keeps tracks of your edits in a list and reapplies them when you open the file to view.

  • Converting raw images to jpegs using PSE 11

I have started to capture only RAW images from my Sony NEX 7 camera. However, I wish to be able to send JPEG images to my friends ( prior to RAW editing ). How do I convert/copy my RAW images to JPEGs using PSE 11?
    Thanks
    Derek

After you're done in camera raw (or in your case, without doing anything, but you'll just get the default conversion, because you MUST convert the files), click the Open button, then save in the format of your choice in the editor. JPEG is an 8 bit format so you will want to either set the raw converter's pulldown menu to 8 bits or you will need to go to Image>Mode> 8 bits/channel in the editor. If you're emailing, you can also use Save for Web to size them down if necesary.
If you use the organizer, you can just use file>export as new files and be sure to send the jpgs someplace easy to find.

  • How do I change the raw image to jpeg with element 6

How do I change the raw image to jpeg using element 6?  I am using a canon 10D camera.

    From the Editor choose:
    File >> Open
Then navigate to your raw file
When the image appears in the converter use the sliders to make your raw adjustments, then click open image.
    From the Editor use:
File >> Save As >> jpeg

  • Change Raw image to jpeg

can I change a RAW image to a JPEG.

You can convert a RAW image to jpeg with the Canon software DPP. I believe there is a tutorial on Canon's site regarding the software.

  • Saving RAW images - uncheck AdobeRGB - saved as JPEG?

my default process is Adobe RGB. If I save a RAW image (Nikon D200) as a jpeg after adjustments in PS5.5, and I uncheck the "save as Adobe RGB" box, will the image be saved as an sRGB jpeg?

No.  That will just save an untagged image that's almost certain to be misinterpreted when viewed.
You probably want to Edit - Convert to Profile:  sRGB IEC61966-2.1 then Save As your image with an embedded profile.  Or use Save for Web and specify the conversion to sRGB there.
But that's not necessarily always the best answer.  Who is going to see these images?  Are they going online?

  • How do I save modified RAW images in JPEG format?

    Hi,
I have several RAW images that I mass modified with the "Camera Raw" editor (I modified one and applied the changes to all other images). How can I now save the modified images as JPEG images? I know I could open each file in Photoshop and save it as JPEG there, but that would take A LONG time.
    Thanks for any pointers!
         Mark

They have to be opened, one by one, before the adjustments are applied and the image files saved, but the process can be automated.  For instance through the already included Image Processor, or Image Processor Pro, also pre-installed, or through Actions and Droplets you create yourself.

iPhoto, Preview, Aperture and many others will convert RAW images.

No, the format of the file shouldn't  be interfering with burning them to a CD. How are you creating the CD?
And, does Nikon NX2 Photoahop 10 interface well with my Apple computer?
    Sorry can;t answer this one.

  • Does Web Module size and convert RAW images to jpeg?

I have never used the Web module before. It looks pretty straightforward but I have one question:
What about images? Does Lightroom take the original RAW images from the library that I've chosen to go into the web site and 'pare the down' or re-size them to be appropriate size for the web site and I assume it would also convert them to jpegs in sizes needed for preview and for thumbnails?
I assume that when you start the 'machinery' for Lightroom to build the web site that it will put all of the images needed as copies from the originals into a proper folder that can be then uploaded to the web?
    Thanks,
    Ken
PS: if I choose a flash template, which are pretty nice, does it also include the flash module so that people can run the flash presentation on their computers?

It will convert all images to jpegs, resize ... however you set it up ... and yes, it is so straightforward as it seems to be .
It makes no sense to upload RAW files to the web for public use in the first place. Second, LR does not touch/change the RAW files. Therefore, how would it be able to integrate your dev settings when using RAW on export?
You can add the ftp target in LR and it will upload directly to your web server.
If you choose Flash-based, people need to have the Adobe Flash player installed on their computer. The Flash player itself is not part of the LR setup. Most of people already have it installed and who doesnt will be asked to install it.

  • Problems Exporting RAW images to JPEG in Lightroom 1.1

I have used LR 1.1 with much success in editing, then exporting/burning JPEG images.  But now, I am shooting in camera RAW (Nikon D40x), and when I attempt to export the edited images to JPEG files, I get the message that an error has occurred during export, and the files do not burn to jpeg.  What can I do to correct this?

  • Saving RAW Images

I use a Canon Digital Rebel and usually take my pictures in the RAW format. After editing within PSE 4.0 and then try to "save as" the image the only options I have for format type are Photoshop, JPEG 2000, Photoshop PDF, Photoshop Raw, PNG or TIFF. Can anyone tell me why regular JPG is not an option or how I can enable this?
    Thanks,
    D. Hoyes

    Dwight,
It is probably because the image is in 16 bit mode.
When you first open the RAW image, at the bottom left there is an option for 8 bits/channel or 16 bits/channel - set this to 8 and you should then be able to save as a JPG.
Alternatively, you can leave it set to 16 and convert to 8 bit in the editor (Image -> Mode -> 8 bit/channel)

  • I bought a new camera, Nikon D3300 . LR5 won't open RAW images. JPEG only. No problems with previous cameras D3100 od Canon S95

How do I open RAW images in LR5 from
my new camera? D3300. no problems with other cameras. it tells me, preview unavailable for this file

D3300 needs at least LR 5.4, the latest version is now 5.7. Its a free update.

  • Saving raw images to a CD/files are too big!

I was the second shooter at a wedding, and the primary photographer asked me to send my raw images straight to her for processing. Music to my ears as less work for me!
However, when I went to burn my 1800 plus images to a CD, I realized the files would fill over 20 CD's. Seems a little kooky.
Beyond using an FTP site to send them (which I suspect would have similar size issues) is there a way to 'zip' or 'compress' these files to a CD, and still have the images arrive as full size, raw images?

A service like www.rapidshare.com will let you upload files that are up to 200MB in size without paying or registering, so if you can ZIP or Stuff the RAWs into archives a little less than 200MB in size then you could upload these via the Rapidshare website and the primary photographer should be able to download them.  A program like WinRAR will split up a large archive into whatever size chunks you want.  The drawback to doing this, of course, is that there are likely to be 60-80 200MB ZIPs involved so it could be tedious for you to upload and her to download them, one by one.
Otherwise, along the same lines are her initial request, if it's an option, a dual-layer DVD burners are available and will store about 9 GB per disc.  I recently picked up a USB external DL burner for less than $90.  You would need to check with her if she can read DVDs, of course.
Or 16GB SDHC cards are pretty cheap, at least online, and you could put them all on one of those and mail it.

  • Converting raw images into jpeg images

I am trying to build a small application that can help me to convert raw images (of one of my cam) into JPG image.
i have earched in google ans found many API ie, JRAWIO,JAI,mistral-0.9.6.809 and Imagero.. but i am not able to understand how to use them in my program..
JRAWIO is helping me to convert NEF and TIFF. though it has functionality fto use it for CR2 ans othr but i failed to use them..
plz help me out if possible with code(full if possible) and step by step description...

    Hi,
we can not do the homework for you but we can help you out to the right direction.
1- Get the input stream from the image file ( source )
InputStream is = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(
                        "C:\\tmp\\sasha.jpg"));
    2- Get your BufferedImage
    BufferedImage buffImage = ImageIO.read(is);
3- look at the API docs for BufferedImage it contains the image data ( Raster)
4- I have not looked at the source code for the JRAWIO but I think it uses javax.imageio.* as an underlying transformation engine
