PSE6 won't release pics? (Mac)
New install of PSE6 from a Wacom graphics tablet software bundle disc.
After editing a photo in 6 and saving as a JPEG, opening the pic in Finder opens it in 6 instead of Preview picture viewing app: double-clicking the photo in Finder opens 6 if it's closed. Tried saving it by Save, Save As, Save for Web and Close.
PSE3 was trashed prior to install of 6. Couldn't find any uninstall instructions for 3. 3 worked on the G4 iMac/10.3.9 and this iMac Intel/10.5.8 after transferring everything from old to new comp when first turned on.
Using PSE3, saving as a PSD would cause this same condition (i.e., opening a photo in Finder would open 3), but 3 would release a photo if saved as a JPEG.
Repaired permissions, uninstalled 6 using the Wacom disc, trashed the com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist in username>library>preferences. Then closed all apps (including unchecking startups in System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items (Snapz ProX)), reinstalled 6 from the Wacom disc, restarted, repaired permissions. Still the same - double clicking a photo in Finder opens 6 and opens the photo in 6 instead of Preview.
No anti-virus installed; System Preferences>Security>Firewall set to 'Allow all incoming connections.' I'm the only user/admin account other than a "test" account that is kept in pristine, unused condition.
All that from Barbara's instructions relating to other Elements problems.
Have read the term 'cleanscript' several times while trying to find an answer here before posting - don't know what cleanscript is.
Ideas appreciated.
Find one of the photos edited in PSE, click once on its icon, then press command +i for the Get Info window, choose Preview in Open with, Change all.
It may seem weird (it does to me) but even though you may already have other images in the same format associated with preview, it's often necessary to tell OS X about images edited in PSE or PS, that you mean those, too.

JSP demo PTS included with Oracle 9i Developer Release for Mac not working
Hello all, please pardon my ignorance, but I am an Oracle DBA not a JSP programmer.
I have installed Oracle 9i developer release for Mac OSX and it included a demo application in JSP called pts.
I followed all the instruction and it still doesn't seem to work.
When I try to login to the application I get the following exception:

I have not tested the 9i dev. with oci calls but I would not be surprised if you try this on tiger. That won't work AFAIK.

Hmmm, it'd be better if you had the iLife disk.....
So, first you need to buy Snow Leopard (call Apple, it's the best price there); once you install it, update it to 10.6.8. That will give you the Mac App Store - you need that to buy Mountain Lion (download only, no disks). You will also want to up your RAM memory toa s much as you can - Mountain Lion is somewhat of a memory hog.
If you don't have your iLife disks, then a bootable clone on an external drive is an absolute must have just in case. You should do the first one before you install Snow Leopard just in case. Then, once you're up to 10.6.8 and all your applications are updated 9ncluding iLife, make a new bootable clone before you download/install Mountain Lion. Keep that clone safe just in case you need to revert or something goes wrong (especially if you don't have disks).
Once Mountain Lion is downloaded, first dismiss the installer and find it in your Applications folder. Make a copy of it and put it in a safe place (so you don't need to download it again). Then begin installing; when finished, run Software Update. Hopefully, your iMovie will be updated to the latest version. At that point, I'd make another clone and keep that one updated.
Having said all that, I'm not sure about iMovie not responding now - since you don't have disks, you can't reinstall it, so I don't know if upgrading will work. Normally one should take care of any problems before upgrading, but unless you want to buy a retail iLife 09 or 11 (which is still available online here and there), there isn't much you can do about installing. -
Up-to-date contacts on iPhone and MobileMe won't won't update the Mac

I just got an iPhone GS and there's a glitch that's driving me mad. (I had an iPod Touch before this so it's not all new.)
First of all I had duplicate Calendars and Contacts ("On my Mac" and MobileMe) so deleted those on my mac by following the instructions here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1922950 which just left MobileMe.
After a bit of fiddling and resetting the Calendars now work so that when I update the iPhone it appears on the Mac, and vice versa.
However, this is not the case with Contacts, and since repeating the process (resetting the Mac, deleting on iPhone and starting again) now if I make changes to contacts on the iPhone they do update MobileMe, but MobileMe does not update the Mac. When I update MobileMe on the website it won't update the Mac either.
I've done everything I can think of/have read about and would really love to get this working as it should.

I went ahead and clicked "Replace" and then got the following error message:
"You are attempting to reset Contacts on MobileMe from this computer.
Contacts have recently been reset on Mobileme. Are you sure you want to reset the Contacts on MobileMe?"
But nothing changed (didn't even lose the up-to-date contact changes on the iPhone) but then I get the error messages again and again and again...

Holy crap, I got it to work.
Essentially, I just waited until DiskWarrior reached Step 9 and told it to skip the step before it had a chance to freeze. It skipped successfully, moved on, rebuilt and replaced the faulty directory files.
So far the computer is booting like normal, I can log in, and I'm currently copying all of the data to an external as I type this.
I still have no idea why the computer wouldn't mount or boot to any drive, but I guess I'll deal with that later. -

You may be able to get round the legacy JAVA requirement as follows:
Create empty folders at “/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk” and “/System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle”, to make Illustrator use Jave SE 8 as it should.

IPod Classic won't sync to Mac
My iPod Classic 160 GB won't sync to Mac snow leopard, running iTunes 10.5.1. It was fine until I tried to mount my Mom's iPad2 and her iPod Classic 80 GB so that I could load content onto her devices. Note: both her devices are attached to my iTunes account, so loading content from my account is legit, even though it apparently sent my own iPod into a tailspin.
Now, even in disk mode, iTunes won't recognize the iPod. It simply shows up on the desktop. I have tried the four or five "Rs", but as the device doesn't show in iTunes AT ALL, I cannot restore it. The iPod-based reset solves nothing.
I purchased my current iPod a few months ago to replace an older iPod classic which gave up the ghost after exhibiting some of this behavior.
Help!Someone please help me before I go potty!
I am having a similar problem to "Bluebell"'s. Suddenly over the last couple of weeks my iPod Classic 160GB (which has been working fantastically since I bought it 2 years ago) has been acting up. Without going into the total history, the result is that now, when connected (and even though the window on the iPod tells me the device is connected), the iPod icon does not show on the desktop of either of my Macs nor does the iPod show up in iTunes. I have reset the iPod dozens of times and searched high and low on Google for helpful suggestions, but with no luck.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I read your suggestion, Bilbo_cheshire, and tried it immediately, but sadly it doesn't work. This is what Disk Utility tells me:

IPad Mini Won't Sync With Mac Mini (ios 8.1 OSX 10.6.8)
Problem : IPad Mini connects to iTunes OK, can be seen in iTunes and I can select which movies to sync to it etc. When I hit the "apply" button after making a change (ie deleting or adding a movie) the sync lasts just a second then the "sync" button remains greyed out, and I can't make them sync.

You'll need to erase the drive by booting up holding command-option-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
Use Disk Utility to erase the disk and then Internet Recovery. That will take a while.

Drag and drop, it won't release the file.
Upon booting up my 15"MBP with osx Lion, when I drag and drop a file, it won't release the file. This happens across files, other programs, etc. The only fix is to put the computer to "sleep", then when it turns back on drag and drop works fine.
Is there a fix for this issue? It happens on every boot up.To clarify, it's not just Air DIsplay but any third-party video driver. When any of these is installed (not even necessarily active) on a MBP5,1, MBP5,2, or MBP5,3, you'll have this issue. The workaround is detailed here: Air Display on Lion with NVIDIA 9400/9600
