PSE7 copying duplicates of photos on computer

I'm trying to figure out what I've done wrong. I'm using Photoshop Elements 7.0 and it used to work right but doesn't anymore.  Everytime I put the card into my computer and open PSE7 it not only copies all the new images onto my computer but previous images it had copied. It numbers them as DSCxxx-1.jpg DSCxxx-2.jpg each time it recopies the image.
I do have the setting ticked telling it to download new images only but it insists on copying previous ones too.
I reformat the card on the 1st of each month to start afresh so hoped it wouldn't do it again this month as it only started doing it a couple of weeks ago. But it is still doing it.  How can I stop it please?

You're right, as far as I can PSE7 never detects duplicates - at least, not on any of my computers anyway.
I posted this problem on 19 April.  Despite a lot of investigation by John Ellis he couldn't work why this happens.
You'll be disappointed to know that PSE8 has exactly the same problem.

    Hi tchmielewski,
You should look into [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync Firefox Sync]. I think it will do everything that you are asking for. This will allow you to have all of your Firefox preferences and settings shared across multiple computers.
You could also create a backup on a USB drive in case of catastrophic failture. I would suggest that you back up your personal information and bookmarks using the article [[Backing up your information]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How do I duplicate a photo in iPhone 5 so I can edit the copy but keep original?

How do I duplicate a photo in iPhone 5 so I can edit the copy but keep original?
I see where it lets me click "Copy" but where in my library do I paste the copy?
    Thanks!

    This is rather interesting...
I could sweat that in iOS 6. When you click Save it gave you the option to keep a copy of original or just save the new picture in replace of the old.
Now what it does, it saves the "edit" in the file. But when you go to make another change, you can see the original picture still.
At least I did when I cropped it.

  • Any way to import a copy of a photo with the same name without renaming?

I organize all my photos in my picture folder on my desktop, and I sometimes copy and paste the same photo into different folders so that I can use them for different purposes without having to hunt them down. I've never had to rename them as long as I've put them into a new folder, but when I imported my picture files into Lightroom 3, it only took the first copy of any picture and left out the other copies in subsequent folders. Is there any way to fool Lightroom into importing them without having to go back and rename all of them?
Thanks so much for any help!

Thanks for the tip . . . I found the checkbox and it worked just fine!
The reason I store multiple copies of the same photo is because I edit photos for my daughter's online business. I always keep an original folder that does not get touched, then make copies of the photos I am going to edit for her in a seperate folder so that I know exactly which ones I'm working with (I don't edit ALL the photos). Once I make my edits, I store the edits in her business file (since she does not need any of the others) and delete the copies; therefore leaving my originals untouched. I was trying to pull some "edits in progress" into LR to throw a preset on them, and it wouldn't allow me to because it had already downloaded the original in a previous folder. Maybe not the best way to organize photos, but it seems to have worked so far. Especially with the volume of photos I deal with for my daughter's business as well as my personal stuff. Another reason I make copies of the same photo is when I'm downloading photos to Facebook. They are not always contained in the same folder, so I make a copy of the photos I want for FB then just edit and download that folder. When I'm done, I delete it after moving the edits. But there may come a time I'll want to pull that folder into LR just to work on those selected photos. Hence the need for duplicates.
I just got LR3 yesterday, and my instructional book should arrive today. I plan on reading it and hopefully it will provide a better way to organize my folders if you say this is not a good idea. I have no idea what "virtual" folders are, but definitely plan on looking in to it. Thanks so much for your advice!

  • Why I am not able to copy and paste photos from my desktop to my Itouch?

I am not able to copy and paste photos from my computer to my Itouch. I use to be able to do it. Now there is an error message that says my device is wither disconnected or stopped responding.
But when I plugged in the Itouch, it still shows on my computer, still able to see my existing pictures in it. Just not able to paste/drag any new pictures into the folder.
Anyone has this problem and able to solve it?
    Thank you.

    Hi BobRz
Thanks for you suggestion but it didn't work - are there other ways for solving this problem? Or is it because my files that I want to copy and paste onto my hard disk etc are too big? (However there is space on my hard disk and it works on a PC)

  • Duplicate 'invisible' photos are being created when I download from camera

    Hi all,
Recently spotted a weird thing happening when I download images from my Nikon D200. I use Image Capture, but not sure if that's the problem. Hopefully you guys can help.
Basically, when burning a DVD of images for a friend, I noticed that if I dragged over the folder that contained the downloaded images, a new disc was created in Toast, and the disc size matched the size of the folder as seen in the Finder. However, if I created a blank disc and just copied over the folder contents themselves, not the actual folder, the disc size was 1.5GB smaller.
So, I fired up TinkerTool and turned on Invisible Files in the Finder, and was shocked to discover that throughout my hard drive, in the folders I download photos into from my camera there are duplicate invisible 'photos' with a period at the start of their name (rendering them invisible) that are the size of a full high res photo each - essentially doubling the size of the folder. If I delete a photo in the Finder, it's invisible counterpart doesn't get deleted with it - so what the heck are they? They're taking up GB upon GB upon GB of space on my drive and I can't even see them unless I use TinkerTool.

I am not a software engineer, but I doubt if these are left over temp files.
More than likely, capture keeps both - the original and the colour managed files. Why hidden, no idea. Maybe it's the camera telling it to do so, maybe some software can "see" both depending on the colour profile selected. Maybe, indeed it's a bug in the software. The best way to find out is to send a bug report and Apple will answer.
If you are using the Spyder you should not colour manage the images at all.
the only profile you should use it the Spyder one.
Colour profile is basically a "translator" of RGB colour values, which displays (and prints) the images with a specific "colour shift".
Each time you acquire an image there is an error built in into the image (no device is perfect), then when displayed on a screen, this screen will introduce another colour shift, then the printer will shift the colours again, and you may end up with wrong colours in the output; and that's where the calibration and colour profiling comes in.
Spyder will scan your screen and adjust it so that the colours are as true as possible. If will not fix any of the camera problems, but at least on a screen you get exactly the colours that the camera took.
(Calibrating a camera is normally not needed, but it can be done too.)
Now, if your screen in Spyder'ed (?) then any software you use to edit the shots in should be set to use the Spyder colour profile, otherwise, you'll not see the true representation of your colours.
When it comes to printing... don't even get me started Most commercial printing joints will supply you with their machine's profile, for home printers - trawl the Internet for the profiles or spend A LOT of money on print calibration.
I did check and I have no hidden files, I do not ask Capture to colour manage my shots.
I also never shoot JPEGs, RAW only. Later if I know I don't want an image for editing, but want to keep it, I dump it to a JPG and delete the RAW.
A silly question here, why not use the Nikon's provided software to download the pix?
    Hope that helps a little.

  • Why does it take so long for iPhoto 6 to duplicate a photo?

I've got 3GB of RAM and it takes 10 seconds for iPhoto to simply duplicate a photo in my library. It is also a relatively lengthy process on my 20" iMac.
I select "Duplicate" from the menu or command-D, and then the "importing photo" screen comes up, there's a progress bar, and it takes WAY TOO LONG.
I've rebuilt my library many times, fixed permissions, converted all my color profiles to the generic one that iPhoto will place nice with, etc.
It didn't use to take this long, and I only have 7000 photos in my library!
Power Mac Dual 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

With my setup it takes 3 seconds to duplicate a 3MB file in iPhoto. A lot will depend on the processor speed (we're the same) memory (again the same) and free space on the HD (I've got much more than 20G). My Mac, however, is a G5 and that may be the difference.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • On my iPhone I have duplicates of photos in moments after upgrading to ios7

On my iPhone I have duplicates of photos in moments after upgrading to ios7

    - If the photos were taken by or saved to the iPod just use the computer's camera/image capture software to get them from the iPod.
    - If the photos were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program such as PhoneView of TouchCopy.

  • How to copy more Microsoft Photo to I-pad mini.

I have yesterday boucht an I-pad mini. I use the latest version of I-Tunes to copy data from my Microsoft computer to the Miini. All worked fine till I started to Synchronise Photo files from my Computer. At first I could make a file and all the Photo's were placed. I selected an other file on the PC and synchronised that one as well. I was confused to see that the file I had copyed was cleand and replaced by the new selected file.
I tried out everything but I can not keep any Photo's on tyhe I-pad. Even when I make a new album and copy by hand copy the synchronised photo's in it, It will clear that album as well as I start to synchronize an other photo file from the PC.
Can anyone help me to keep the albums after synchronizing more than one Album from my pc?

If the option come up to copy, then tap on the word copy and the text or image will be copied to the invisible clipboard on the iPad. You will be able to paste that text or image into a text block, an email or anywhere that text and images can be pasted into.
You have to have a place to paste whatever you copied or what you copied stays in that invisible clipboard until you copy something else which will overwrite the last thing that you copied.

  • Transfer photos from computer to flash drive

I would like to transfer photos from computer to flash drive so I can view them on Smart TV. Only option on computer is to burn to CD or DVD.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I do not see any info on the Windows version or PC model, so here are generic instructions.
    1) assuming the flash drive is seen when opening "my computer" or "computer" double click on the flash drive - it should open another window showing what, if anything is on the flash drive.  Leaving that window open, now find the pictures you wish to copy or move and highlight them by clicking each one or a group (select more than one by holding the control key down while clicking in the photos)  Now right click on one of the selected photos and then pick "copy" or and then right click on the open flash drive windows, right click "paste"
    OR
left click and hold on one of the photos and drag the group highlighted into the open flash drive window, release the left click.

  • I was able to sync my photo to ipad from computer but I lost photo on computer

how do I get them from I pad to comuter?

You can copy photos that were originally synced from a computer back via third-party apps such as Simple Transfer, which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer. Do you not have a backup copy of the photos e.g. on external drives ?
