PSE7 Duplicating files in catalogue

After duplicating or deleting a file from a folder in the catalogue, the catalogue always reverts to the first file in the the folder. Is there a way to revert to the previous position in the catalogue without having to scroll down from the first file?

Many people have complained about this -- it's one of many bugs and design misfeatues in Folder Location view. The only workaround is to avoid using Folder Location view.   See this thread for a recent discussion about why you might want to consider that:

  • How to share iMovie library with other accounts without duplicating files?

I'm looking for information on how to share an imovie library with other accounts on the same computer without duplicating files.  If I  copy imovie files to the shared folder each user is required to import the files to their library which duplicates the files.  It would be nice if imovie had the option of including events/projects shared in the share folder.  Is there an option to change everyone's default library to a shared folder?  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

The easiest way to do this would be to atach an external drive. The external drive should be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). If you have a drive that is formatted some other way, you can reformat it using Disk Utility. It can be Thunderbolt, Firewire, or USB, but Firewire or Thunderbolt will give best performance for video.
Now you need to move the projects and events over to the external drive. This must be done from within iMovie.
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK.
Now, in the Project Library View, hold down the command key while dragging the small icon for each project to the small icon for the external drive. Now select one of these projects and click FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA. This will enable you to move associated Events, Photos, and Music to the external drive. Repeat for all projects.
If any events are left over at the end of this, because they are not used in any of your projects, you can move them to the external drive by working in the Event Library list. Hold down the Command Key while dragging the small icon for the Event in the Event Library List to the small icon for the External Drive. Repeat until all the Events are moved.
Now you can edit these movies on any user account.
For future clips that you import from a camera, be sure to select the external drive as the location.

  • Finding Duplicated Files

What is the easiest way to find duplicated files throughout the hard drive? I have just managed to eliminate 6 GB of files that had arisen because previously I had files and clones on 3 separate Hard Drives and had lost track at times. I am now consolidating to one HD and cleaning out the excess fat by laboriously going through several folders by hand. It takes a lot of time.
Is there a way of getting Spotlight to identify unnecessary duplicates systemwide? Or is there another method?

I have seen reports of success using dupeGuru:

sometimes even Safari bookmark will be messed up if sync to iPhone

What is requiring the files to be duplicated? Are you asking how to share a folder of files via "cloud" so they can be accessed on another computer? More details will help.
I use DropBox to share files. Other services are OneDrive, Box.com, Google Drive (note Google Drive is reported to have issues with Mavericks).

  • Duplicated Files On Harddrive

I have duplicated files on my Harddrive.
I want to delte them, it is to messy to find them all individually.
So i want to delte them through itunes using the "send to reycele bin thing" so s0ngs i have 4 copys off will just DISSAPPEAR of my HDD.
    How can i do this?

To clarify the 'duplicate' issue a bit, one needs to understand the difference between duplicate song references within iTunes and duplicate song files on the PC.
You can sometimes wind up with two (or more) song references in iTunes that point to the same physical file on the PC. In this case, you need to keep only one of the references within iTunes. If you also happen to delete the underlying PC song file, then the remaining reference will show the dreaded '!' of a broken link. Recovering the miss-deleted song can be easy if you haven't emptied the Recycle Bin, or difficult if you have. Also note that when mass deleting files, if the amount is too big for the Bin, the PC will bypass it and permanently delete the files.
Other times, you have two identical (or close) references within iTunes that each point to a unique song file on the PC. In this case, you need to delete both the reference in iTunes and allow iTunes to send the underlying file to the Recycle Bin. If you only delete the reference, you end up with an 'orphan' song file on the PC taking up space. Some less than musically hygienic folks have ended up with GBs of unwanted songs mingled throughout their iTunes folders. There is a novel method to find and remove them....
The take-away from the above is: Make sure you know which type of duplicate issue you have. Check each and every grouping before you delete the reference &/or the file. You can look at the underlying file of each reference through iTunes by using the 'Get Info' and note the path and file it accesses.
Also note that some song references can appear to be duplicates but are really two different song files, as in the case of the same song in AAC format and Lossless format. Unless you have the 'Kind' column showing, or notice the 'size' or 'bit rate' of the files, you may mistake them for true duplicates.
It seems to never be a clear-cut answer when dealing with iTunes....
Hope this adds some clarity. Unfortunately, there is no 'easy' or 'automated' way to detect and delete duplicates.

  • Allowing the copy of duplicated files

Hi, I'm backing up my old windows folders into my Mac.
Once I'm copying the files (drag and drop) the system stops because it detects duplicated file names. I'm aware of the duplicated names and I would like to continue, however the system is not allowing me.
The new hardrive is a solid state one, so, it is lots of times faster than the old one.
I'm going to clean duplicated names on the new SDD.
For now, I really need to copy duplicated files.
    Any suggestion?
    Regards
    Gab

You're copying from a (case-sensitive) NTFS filesystem to a case-insensitive one. There are files in the same folder with names that differ only in case, such as "foo" and "Foo". If you don't want to resolve those conflicts now, you can create a case-sensitive MacOS volume in disk utility, either on a storage device or a disk image, and copy the files to it.

  • Get wrid of Duplicated files!

    Hi!
I have just bougth Nano 4 gig!
I dragged a folder of songs over to it . I thought How cool is this! But it said that is was not room for all of the songs. Hmmm I thought: How strange. When it was done adding all the songs I notised that most of the songs where duplicated.
Is there a function on Itunes that you can say: Delet all duplicated files???

you can go under the Edit menu and say show duplicate songs, then delete all the copies of a song there except 1. So if there are 3 of the same song delete 2 of them, hope this helps

  • Duplicating files on Top "Level" of HD in Yosemite stuck with PENDING and "X"

Duplicating files on Top "Level" of HD in Yosemite stuck with PENDING and "X"-- which is incredible as it is happening on both my 2010 MBP-13" and my daughter's brand new MacBook Space gray:
Go to the highest level on your hard drive --- where the SYSTEM and APPLICATIONS and USERS folders are located.  Now take any file or folder that is there (small or big) and click on it, the either choose "duplicate" or do cmd-d to make a duplicate of that file.  WHAT HAPPENS?
For me-- the file duplicates but the icon has a progress bar image  along the

I HOPE THIS HELPS people to see what I'm getting on the top level only:  Here are 2 images -- a before and after:  I have a very plain empty folder called "Test Folder 1 May 2015" in the first one (along with some other folders) and then in the second one you can see I duplicated that folder -- but it now has a progress bar and and "x" showing!  (Just the "duplicated" file - the one with copy in the name).  This is a screen shot (using "Totalfinder" if anyone is wondering).  Same with my daughter's new MacBook (and she has essentially nothing on it, is not using TotalFinder - but the same problem.  Hey, maybe it's not a problem, maybe it's a "feature" of Yosemite or just the way it treats root level folders now--- but I sure would like to get rid of this weirdness if possible without breaking the system!

  • How to find duplicated files across users on the same mac

I have an iMac under 10,8,3 with different users. How can I find out the duplicated files ie same file under different users account ?
    Thanks

You can't. Other user's files shouldn't be discoverable by an user. If they were, then the security model would be broken.

Yes, if you duplicate without the render files and delete the original project you lose the render files. But render files get recreated - automatically if you have it set in the preferences (which is the default option). It just takes time.

  • Shared Time Machine and duplicated files?

I have a new MBP (running Lion) and an older MacBook (running Leopard).  I'd like both to run Time Machine to a shared external hard drive which I think I've worked out.  My question is whether or not TM will store duplicate versions of the same files (particularly photos, videos, etc.) on the external hard drive, thus using up the EHD capacity more quickly, or will one file be saved and just recognized as being on both computers by TM.
Any ideas on this?  Ideally I'd like to take a good amount of files off the old MacBook so my wife can still use it and it will run a little smoother since it's hard drive is pretty close to maxed out now.

The backups will be separate. Identical files will be duplicated.

  • How do i stop iTunes duplicating files?

I have read the past years posts; I do believe they answer this question.
I deleted all the giga bites of duplicate files in the iTunes directory - this took about 5 hours. I then selected edit -> preferences -> advanced and turned off 'keep itunes media folder organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library'. I then - heroically - added in the user folder to itunes and let it run for 15 minutes. Itunes has re-created the duplicates. I'm very unhappy (but am not expecting you to help me with this). But, can you tell me how i stop itunes duplicating all my files when i add in the root folder to iTunes? Please.
More details. When i add the music into iTunes, the files i saved were all the full music title. Itunes duplicates these in two ways. When it simply doubles the number of files, it does so by concatenating the artist's name to the start of the track name separating it from the track name with a '-' and truncating the track name if required. When it triplicates the file name it adds a 1 to the end of the concatenated file name.
I'd really appreciate some help on this, even it it is simply pointing me towards an answer elsewhere on the web. Thank you very much!

The behavior by which iTunes does or does not re-add files it is given is a bit confusing. If the files are located outside the iTunes Media folder, and the library version has been edited since they were added, iTunes will create a new one.
In any case, simply re-adding the whole root folder is asking for trouble.

  • PSE 9 how to load only pdf files ina catalogue?

I chose "file type:" PDF in the menu "Load Photos, Videos from folder and files" but I am not able to avoid that also JPEG files are loaded in the catalogue.
Moreover, the program freezes many times.
Am I doing something wrong or is not possible to load only a type of file?
My purpose is to get a catalogue with only a copy of all my PDF I have split in many directories.
    Thank you for help

It would probably be easier to separate your PDFs from your jpegs. One suggestion is to do a system search for all PDF’s and then import them all from a single folder. It really depends how important your folder structure is.
    1. Create a new folder My PDFs
    2. Launch Windows Explorer and click the search button on the top ribbon next to folders
    3. Choose All Files & Folders
    4. In the box below All or part of File name type: *.PDF
    5. Click the Search button and wait for the search to finish
    6. Ignore results in /WINDOWS or /Program Files folders
    7. Select all other PDF’s in Documents & settings locations
    8. When all you PDF’s are highlighted click the top menu Edit >> Move to Folder
    9. Choose you new folder My PDF’s and click Move.
You could split the task by selecting batches to move. When you have moved them all to My PDF’s import into Organizer from My PDF's
