PSE7: Naming scheme for import without spaces?

Hi all,
just upgraded to photoshop elements 7 (from 2 :-) ) and have a question on the naming schemes available to put imported photos into subfolders named by date: The offered options in the drop down (Photo downloader - Create Subfolders by date) all include spaces between year month and day values. Up to now my format was yyyymmdd (all without spaces) and the newly created folders would not sort properly anymore.
So is there a way to have PSE7 create subfolders based on the date WITHOUT the spaces. I had a trial version of Lightroom 2 and there it is possible, however Lightroom is much to "big" for my needs.
Thanks for any hints,
Peter

Unfortunately, the options you get are the ones you see in the drop-down.

  • What is the naming scheme for Versions

    V1_ON_JONAHS VISIT
I get that "V1" is the version number
and that "Jonah's Visit" is the title of my script, but what does the "ON" stand for?

Thanks!  That makes sense, now that I know what it means.
Perhaps this would be good information to include on your Help page at https://helpx.adobe.com/story/help/save-versions-document.html  or one of the others that talks about saving versions.

Yes, but you might want to think carefully about it.
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing. The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
This is an attractive option for some users at face value, but it contains a significant number of issues that you might want to consider before making the decision to run a Referenced Library
    How to do it:
iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck the box at 'Copy items to the iPhoto Library'
Now when you import iPhoto makes an alias in the Library Package that points to the stored file. Note: iPhoto still creates a thumbnail of the image and it makes a Preview of edited photos inside the Library Package.
    Issues?
    1. You are responsible for file management. That's more work:
You must first move the files from your camera to the storage location before importing.
If you want to delete files then you must first trash them from iPhoto and then afterwards find them in your storage and trash them.
Thereafter, you cannot move the files on early versions of iPhoto at all, on iPhoto 08 and later you may move them on the same Volume or Disk. If you move them to a new volume or disk the aliases my break. If they are on an different volume and you move them the aliases will break.
    You cannot rename the files.
Migrating: moving to a new machine, moving the files to another disk are all a lot more complex.
    2. You gain no extra functionality from running a Referenced Library. Nothing. This is just storage. You still manage the files via iPhoto. You edit them with iPhoto or via iPhoto's External Editor setting, otherwise you're changes will not be available in iPhoto. You don't save  byte of storage space.
    3.  If you have the Library on one volume and the photos on another you if anything changes in the path to a file (Like if you upgrade your machine, move the files on the NAS or on to another one?) then the alias will break, and you'll have to repair it manually. For every photo in the Library. One at a time.
Why do you want to run a Referenced Library?
Because my photos won't fit on my HD?
You can run a Managed library from an external disk. Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
You're worried about accessing the files?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

You can create an nXSD using Native Format Builder and use lookAhead attribute to read values at specific position and use that as the choice. You can find an example here

  • Export & import of sap sid schema for building a new system

    Hi,
We have a quality BW system which runs on HANA SPS07 (Revision 73). The database contains many schemas in addition to sap<sid>, the rest of the schemas are used through native HANA and are very huge.
We are planning to build a new test BW system by system copy method from quality BW systems. We dont want the export/import of entire database as it will take a long time because of huge native HANA schemas, also the schemas other than sap<sid> are not required in the target. Please let me know how to copy only the sap<sid> schema to the new database.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Saravanan

    Hi Saravanan,
Try with rigth clic on schema -> Export,
Select CSV format, choose a directory.
And for import the schema use the follow query:
    import "old_schema"."*" as CSV from 'Directory' with replace threads 10 rename schema "old_schema" to "NEW_schema_name";
    Regards.

  • How can I load pics from camera without spaces in the filename (PSE5)

    Hello,
I want to load the pics from my Fuji Camera with my newly acquired Photoshop Elements 5 into its database as simple as possible. I get offered several ways of renaming the pics during the import. Unfortunately the date formats offered (for folder or filenames) do *all* include space characters " ", which I do not like, because this caused me earlier a lot of trouble when putting the pics online, for example (%20 in the path name). Another reason is my existing photo collection since 2001, which has no spaces in the filenames as well.
    Example for the filename:
PSE offers: "jj mm dd 001.jpg"
I want : "jjmmdd_001.jpg" or at least "jj_mm_dd_001.jpg" or anything similar.
For folder names the same thing appears.
Is there a way to do that without typing each date without spaces by hand?
    How?
I would like to have the photo load process as simple as possible, without having to remove the spaces with a separate rename tool.
    Any ideas?
I searched for quite a while and I am surprised that nobody else seems to have this problem. Am I just too picky?
    Thank for any help.
    Greetings from Germany,
    Ulrich

Ken,<br />again thanks for your writing.<br /><br />IMHO, if PSE had space free filenames, this would lead to a very simple and fast workflow with PSE alone (!) like this:<br /><br />1. Just connect my camera (Fuji F31fd) with the USB cable (no fiddling with the memory card in and out each time)<br />2. Transferring all (or selected) pics into PSE, one folder per day, named yymmdd_optional_theme_description.<br />3. Delete all non-optimal pics after viewing in PSE. Then tagging, pic-improving where needed ....<br />4. As backup, burn/move to CD from time to time and copy/move to an external HDD for double security.<br /><br />Its just the spaces in the filenames which prevents me from using this. I want to have the workflow well defined and fixed before I start using PSE5. <br />But it seems there is no workaround (so far).<br /><br />Maybe I should just take the "trouble" and rename every folder manually within PSE. No problem with one or 2 days, and still not a very big problem after a 3 week holiday. But still all single photo files will have the spaces in them. If I want to avoid that, I really have to bring them to the PC without PSE, rename them as batch with Irfan or any other tool, and then import them to PSE, as you wrote. From my point of view, a lot of unnecessary hassle, especially if I have the simple workflow from above in mind.<br /><br />Many people seem not to be disturbed by the spaces in the filenames. I wonder if I overrate the disadvantage of it. Your opinion(s)?<br /><br />I am not sure what you mean with<br /><Perhaps Ulrich would be well served if he created a collection of newly acquired pictures with a common theme.><br /><br />In fact I want to come away from theme centered archiving the photos, which is what I did so far. I learned this from the article <br />http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1018&message=26366116 <br />and the following one from Arrowman. I won't follow all what he wrote *in detail*, but most ideas seem to be good. The PSE tagging should do the theme-related searches.<br /><br />Greetings,<br />Ulrich

I can get down as far as step 11 but it shows nothing about upper filters and when I type on "If the Upper Filters entry is missing follow these instructions" nothing happens
Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.

  • DEPB & EPCG Schemes in Import Scenario

    Hello,
Can anyone explain me the DEPB & EPCG Liecenses in Customs Clearings.
    How to map in SAP??
    Thanx & Regards,
    Kumar Rayudu

    Hi Friends,
    My question was simple.
for example let us take US right?
I have maintained Numbering scheme (NS) "ScheduleB" for exports side and maintained numbering scheme "ECCNUS" for imports sides then for EAR regulation
Then I need to assign as follows
    Regulation                            Import NS                             Export NS
    EAR                                     USECCN                             ScheduleB
Now my question is without defining scheduleB and I will define only USECCN then assign as follows
    Regulation                            Import NS                             Export NS
    EAR                                     USECCN                              USECCN
As per my knowledge It desn't matter which ever naem you use for NS. NS is just structure for assigning value right?
My question, does it have impact from compliance point of view for option 2
    Thanks,

  • BEST SETTING FOR IMPORTS?

    Hey all
What do you think is the best import setting encoder for quality (without doing one that's so large that I can't import as many songs) ?
    Thanks for the help,
    e

"Best" is subjective; what will work best for you will depend on your use of the tracks, no much storage space you have to dedicate to your music, your playback system, and your ears. Many people find that the default import setting of 128 kbps AAC is just fine, both others (particularly those with better playback systems), want better quality.
I'd suggest you do some experimenting and determine for yourself what will be best for you. Select three or four represenative CDs and import them using various settings and then compare them to see which gives you acceptable sound quality while using the least amount of drive space. Then delete the extra copies, import the rest of your CDs, and enjoy!
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic before you post a question.

  • XMP Schema for WAV files

    Hi,
I am planning to use XMP metadata for WAV files and I would like to create a Schema for the same. I know that that XMP has schemas for other Formats like TIFF and EXIF. If there is a XMP schema for WAV already(probably the Adobe Audition uses it), I would like to use it; else, I have to create a custom XMP WAV schema.

    Greetings,
Since a WAVE file is actually a simple RIFF file format, I think it should fit into my proposal for embedding XMP data in RIFF files (I already posted it somewhere else in this forum). (For WAVE schemas, thats another story)...
p.s: I have not had any comment from Adobe on this proposal, either they don't read this forum or they don't care...
    Comments?
I have the same proposal for IFF files (AIFF/ILBM etc) if you wish to have it?
    Here follows the specification:
Embedding XMP data into IBM-Microsoft RIFF file formats
    =====================================================================
This proposal permits adding XMP compatible metadata to standard
RIFF files. A RIFF file is composed of chunks of data; each of
the chunks precedeed by a header giving the type of data that
follows, as well as the length of the data in the chunk. For
more information on the RIFF file format, consult the specification
"Multimedia Programming Interface and Data Specifications 1.0"
Including XMP data in an RIFF compatible file is a matter
of adding a subchunk to the INFO LIST chunk. The subchunk
ID for this type of date shall be "IXMP".
    Guidelines for RIFF writers
If the XMP packet is to be used, the software can optionally
write out all other INFO LIST registered (from the standard),
    assuming the following mapping:
    IRSC dc:creator
    ICRD dc:date
    ICMT dc:description
    ICOP dc:rights
    IKEY dc:subject
    INAM dc:title
    IGNR dc:type
    IARL dex:source
In the case where they are written, for better validation by reader
software, the XMP packet should also contain the xmp:MetadataDate
    property.
For better portability, and to easily modify the embedded
XMP data, the following guidelines should be followed by
    the RIFF writer:
    - The XMP packet should contain the full packet signature;
this permits easier searching for tools that do not
    understand the RIFF file format.
    - The XMP packet should be encoded in UTF-8.
    - As specified in the XMP specification, an XMP packet
should be filled with blank spaces for easier updating of
the XMP packet without rewriting the entire file.
A suggested size of an XMP chunk is 4096 or 8192 bytes.
    - Only one "IXMP" chunk should be present in the INFO LIST
chunk. Preferrably, there should only be one INFO LIST
    chunk per file.
    Guidelines for RIFF readers
If an XMP packet is present in an RIFF file, then one of
the following options can be used to retrieve the
    metadata from the file:
If the existing metadata chunks are also present,
then, one of the following solutions can be used:
    a) Compare the xmp:MetadataDate property with the
file modification date to determine which chunk to use
: either the IXMP subchink or the other info subchunks.
(If the file modification date is greater than
xmp:MetadataDate, it is probably safe to assume that
the standard metadata chunks might have been updated
    by software that does not
    understand XMP packets).
    b) Simply ignore these chunks and use the XMP
    packet for the metadata.
    c) Simply ignore the XMP chunk , and use the

I've imported photos from a hard drive into Aperture. The folders were listed as years. Then with folders of events within each.
On import to Aperture I have ie: 1999 as project. Within this I have many folders such as Fishing, XX birthday, XX birthday, Fun Park, Christmas, etc...
Then another Project 2000 and same as above.
Is there a better naming scheme I should use? In each year Project folder I have Christmas photos. Paintball tournaments. Family get togethers etc..
Some events the same just different years.
Is there a more efficient use of Apeture? Such as making a Christmas Project and then putting all Christmas photos in here? Should I then make year folders of the tournaments or for Christmas?
Not sure of the best use of Aperture to control photos?

For me the best thing is a unique name for every image. I had considered a date naming convention and did not go forward for a few reasons, first off the name was getting too long and I could always look for the date by metadata, so no need.
I figured naming by content presented problems such as what content if an image of a dog also has a cat in it? Skiing in Alta? Skiing or Alta.... Then there is the problem of remembering or finding the last numbered image in the group.
So I ended up with a simple sequence number. I was originally going to go with using letters for the beginning to coincide with a year. A=2001, B=2002 etc. I again threw this out as being redundant because of Metadata. I ended up just going with a letter first with 5 digits following. I edit down to keepers and then simply go back and see the last number I used and then use the following number.
In Aperture I place the images in projects of the shoot in folders of the client then in projects within those folders. I then put alias's in a sequentially numbered folder in groups of 1000.

  • Schema level Import issue

    Hi ,
Recently i faces one issue :-
schema backup from one database is created for <SCHEMA1> whose default tablespace is <TABS1> , and trying to import in to <SCHEMA1> of different database whose default tablespace is <TABS2> but it looks for <TABS1> tablespace.i have used fromuser touser clause during import.
So, How can i perform this task without creating a <TABS1> tablespace and assign a default tablespace for <SCHEMA1> or renamimg a <TABS2> tablespace to <TABS1> tablespace which is a tidious task in oracle 9i.

1 set up a default tablespace for the target user
2 Make sure the target user doesn't have the RESOURCE role and/or UNLIMITED TABLESPACE privilege.
3 Make sure the target user has QUOTA on the default tablespace ONLY
alter user quota unlimited on <target> quota 0 on <the rest>
4 Import without importing indexes, those won't be relocated.
5 Imp indexfile=<any file> ---> file with create index statements
6 edit this file, adjusting tablespaces
    7 run it.
Tablespaces can't be renamed in 9i.

  • Hungarian Naming Contentions for UML Class Diagram

UML class diagram should be generic for all the available object oriented language and should not be language dependent. If we follow pure java naming conventions in UML class diagram, which make the UML class diagram Java language dependent not generic.
I am trying to combine Hungarian Naming Contentions with Java Naming Convention so variable name will follow x_y schema where x_ is according to Hungarian notation attached with class attribute, which is named according to java naming standard. This naming standard satisfies UML naming convention and will also help in java programming.
    For an example,
i_userNumber Here 'i_' is a Hungarian notation representing type of variable attached with class attribute . This indicates that the attribute is an interger , which is named according to java naming standard.
    Feedback Please

You're going to get a gozillion answers to this question, and all of them will be both right and wrong to some degree, so I will give you my thoroughly opinionated answer to go along with all the rest.
I am not a fan of Hungarian notation for one fairly fundamental reason. Java is a strongly typed language, thus it doesn't need indicators of type. By putting a type indicator on a variable you create potential problems when you change a data type. Won't happen? I am currently sweeping through a major portion of the application I'm working on changing data types for masses of variables because the database guys took a whim to change the data type in the database. If I were using Hungarian notation, not only would I have to change the type, the parameter type and return type for the accessor mutator methods, I'd also have to change the name, the name of the accessor and mutator methods, and anywhere that the variable is modified directly.
The name of a thing should speak for its self. It shouldn't need an indicator flag on the front to tell me what it is.
But you're talking about UML not Java code. The same thoughts apply. The name should speak for the thing it represents without the need for additional clarification.
Hungarian notation in my not so humble opinion adds complexity by requiring the development team to spend effort learning, understanding, thinking about, processing, manipulating, touching, dealing with what is essentially a thoroughly artificial naming scheme.
Just my thoughts on the subject. Your milage may of course vary wildly.
