PSE7 Update 7.0.3

Ever since I downloaded the updtate, and click the Pse icon to logon the welcome screen is different. I no longer see the login section of the welcome screen. On the welcome screen I get a pop up window indicating there is a required update available. (Pse update 7.0.3) which I have downloaded and installed more than once. Each time after the install it gives me a window, stating  the program is up to date. Then every time I get the welcome screen I get the pop up agin, saying a requied update is available.  I am able to access the organizer and the editor.  However I no longer have acess to Photoshop Inspiration Browser, the icon does not show up in organizer or editor.  How do I correct these problems?

Hi Sun,
One of my friend had same problem and its resolved after reinstallation. Please do the following and problem should be resolved.
1. Uninstall PSE 7.0
2. Install it again.
3. You will again see the message for update and continue with download and install.
4. Restart your machine
AND you should be able to use Photoshop.com services again.
All the best !!!

  • PSE7 Update Available

If you have Photoshop Elements version 7, and if you haven't already done so using the built in update mechanism, you should install the latest PSE 7.0.3 Update.
You can get it by using the Help -> Check For Updates... menu inside PSE7.
Just wanted to make sure everyone knew it was there.
    Cheers
    Bob

There are many reasons why the PSE Editor might not getting launched or crashes. Here are some steps you can take to try to fix the problem. Even if you think you’ve tried some of these  before, try them again, precisely as described here:
    1.      Delete the Editor’s preferences:
Start PSE to get to the Welcome screen. Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift keys and click Edit.  Keep holding down the keys until you see a window asking “Delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?” Click Yes. (Note that this does not delete the Organizer’s settings.)
    2.      Change the default printer, as described in these tech notes:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402704.html
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/400/kb400963.html
    3.      If you have a Microsoft pointing device, the Microsoft Intellipoint driver software may be conflicting with the Editor. Try uninstalling it and rebooting. (Your device may operate without the software.)
    4.      If the Editor crashes after displaying “Building TWAIN menu items” on the splash screen, see this tech note:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408846.html
    5.      Try Adobe’s generic troubleshooting steps.  If you’ve installed third-party plug-ins, start with that step first.
In case the issue is not resolved, then we can plan a connect session and try to resolve the issue.
    Thanks,
    Garry

  • Has Adobe stopped activating/deactivating PSE7?

I have been using PSE7 on Windows 7 for years and never had a problem. Recently, I installed a new Windows 7 system drive and attempted to install my trusty PSE7. Prior to installing the new system drive, I ensured that all my software with activations were deactivated, but there was no option under the PSE7 Help menu for deactivation. (Ironically, there is a deactivation on a non-activated install but it is obviously grayed out and it wasn't in my original, activated PSE7 help menu.)
PSE7 installed correctly to my new Windows 7 (same Windows version and install disk I was using with PSE7 previously), but when I got to the activation screen, it just showed a red "X". After logging into Adobe and confirming my activation code, I contacted Adobe Support and was told that PSE7 was never tested on Windows 7 so they couldn't give any support, and that they could not even look up my activations in their computer to see if they were still 'active'. They did tell me that PSE7 was suppose to be automatically deactivated when it was uninstalled.
    So, I did the following:
Restored a backup copy of my old Windows 7 and perfectly working PSE7 system (I'd already re-purposed the old drive)
Uninstalled PSE7 (as I remembered, there is no "Deactivate" in my working PSE7)
Re-installed Windows 7, updated it and installed PSE7, but PSE7 still wouldn't accept the activation
Re-formatted and re-installed Windows 7 but did not run Windows update in case it was a recent update the broke activation
Installed PSE7 but failed to get past the activation screen again
As I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 and attempted PSE7 activation before I ran Windows update, the conditions were nearly identical to my original Windows 7 system when I successfully installed PSE7 all those years ago. If it installed and accepted activation in my original system but not in my last test, it leads me to think that Adobe is no longer releasing the activations for PSE7.
Anyone have any idea if Adobe is still releasing the activations or activating new installs for software they don't support anymore? I'm only assuming they don't support any PSE7, not just on the unsupported Windows 7, as they can't look up my activations for it. Seems strange that their support staff would not have access a older product's activations for troubleshooting, provided that they still have a server managing those activations?
    Thanks

Ah ha, there is life on my thread. Maybe I should have ignored posting etiquette and bumped the thread a few times to get it back on the main page before throwing in the towel. Thanks, Michel.

As another user like you, I have still old versions of Elements installed on my computer together with PSE13. I have version 6 active. Versions 4,5 and 10 I can reinstall if needed to help solve other users problems. The registration/activation of PSE versions has changed and I can find the registration keys and downloads for the versions 10 and newer. For my PSE6 and older versions, all I need is the original CD and original key. Those keys are linked specifically to the original CD. There is no activation servers for those.
Too bad, you have almost every version except 7. I purchased a download version and confirmed the S/N on my purchased software page, so I assume it is correct. Unfortunately, each and every time I get to the the activation screen, on multiple PSE installs and Windows 7 installs in various states of update, it spits out the dreaded red "X".
    ... pause for thought...
However, your comment about the original CD got me thinking, so just in case my originally downloaded install file was corrupted, I re-downloaded a copy of PSE7 from my account on Adobe, and it was a completely different installer! Gone was the S/N input page with a bunch of boxes to input the numbers in groups of 4 and there was simply a single input box that you can cut-and-paste the whole S/N into (you don't know how many times I retyped my S/N, 4 digits at a time, to make sure I didn't make a typo).
Even better than the S/N new input box is that it accepted my S/N without a hiccup! No red "X", or anything. PSE7 is installed and life is good again! Yay!
I kept my old install of PSE7 updated, but I never thought of the possibility of an updated installer. Possibly Adobe has changed how it expects the S/N to be transmitted, thus creating a different installer than my original one. Below the S/N input boxes on the old but not the new installer, there was a trial option that I also tried and failed to activate after install, but most software that have both options generally accept both options. Too bad the Adobe tech didn't know there were different versions of the installer, but not being supported any more, I guess I was lucky he tried.

  • PSE7 Restore to different PC fails to update drive letter in catalog

I'm trying to simply copy my catalog and photos from my desktop to my laptop to have with me when I'm away. From all the discussions it seemed like backup/restore was the best method in order to preserve all the tags and other data associated with the images.
    Source Drive:
Volume in drive H: is Data
    Volume Serial Number is 30AF-58D3
    Catalog: RH Main
    Picture Folder: h:\My Documents\My Pictures
    Catalog Folder: h:\My Documents\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\RH Main
    Backup Destination:
Volume in drive M is OneTouch4 1-TB Serial number is e79a:bf54
Now on the laptop I run the restore and choose 'Hard drive/Other Volume' and locate the Tally file on drive X: which is mapped to drive M on my desktop. It was simpler to restore across the network rather than moving drive M to the laptop.
Under 'Restore Files and Catalogs to' I choose 'New Location', specify D:\, and check 'Restore Original Folder Structure'.
    On the laptop:
Volume in drive D: is Apps_Data
    Volume Serial Number is 3069-7A44
After the restore is complete, all of my photos are exactly where I expect them, D:\My Documents\My Pictures. The catalog is in D:\Catalog.
The problem is that there are no thumbnails displayed for any of the photos. Examining the properties of each reveals that they are presumed to be on drive H: - their original location on my desktop.
I could have easily copied the files myself, but I was counting on restore to do what I could not easily do - which was to update the database to reflect the correct location of the restored files. After all, restore PUT them there. Something must have convinced it that the drive letter containing the restored photos was still H:, but I'm at a loss as to how it could have come to that conclusion.
Am I missing a step or am I expecting too much from backup/restore?

The only drive visible to the laptop is X: which is mapped to M: on the desktop - the destination for the backup. The drive containing the original images on the desktop is H:.
Automatically search and reconnect is checked.
Update thumbnail doesn't work. Here's what's funny. Take a single example, a file named DSC_0005.JPG. I choose update and it starts scanning on D: and I can see it run through My Documents, My Pictures, and all of its subfolders. It turns out there are no less than 10 occurrences of that file name under My Pictures - each of them in a different sub-folder of course. So I let Update Thumbnail run and ended up at the reconnect screen where I can go find it manually. Why it didn't find any of those 10 files is a mystery. So I reconnected manually by browsing to the correct DSC_0005.JPG file - formerly at H:\My Documents\My Pictures\2009 01 01 but now on D: at the same path.
Next I choose the thumbnail adjacent to it on the screen, DSC_0006.JPG. I check the rmf.3.cache file and the only entry in it is the folder that I just matched DSC_0005.JPG from - which is the same folder that contains DSC_0006.JPG. The process again runs for quite some time searching C: & D: for DSC_0006.JPG. Once again I'm presented with the Reconnect Missing Files dialog with no file suggested on the right side. So even with an entry in the cache pointing to D:\My Documents\My Pictures\2009 01 01, a folder containing a file named DSC_0006.JPG, it could not find a match!
Back in PSE5 I had performed this reconnect on one file and then again on the rest as described on your web page and it worked as you described. So I'm familiar with that process but have not needed it lately, until now.
The backup/restore functionality is so basic that I'm sure they tested it to some degree and it must work for some, otherwise many others would likely be griping. So there must be something unique to my setup that it's unable to come to grips with. Surely their internal testing of the restore feature included a test to restore to a different drive.
Maybe they made the restore too smart. It certainly restores the file to the correct location based on the options I selected and the file retains its original name - but the database thinks it hasn't moved from the original location.

  • Updated Camera list for converting Raw files in PSE7

I am looking to instal an updated CameraRaw.8bi file to accomodate recent cameras.
Camera updated needed for Canon powershot G15.
    Regards Daz.

Photoshop Elements 7 supports Adobe Camera Raw from version 4.5 to 5.6 only.
Please refer following document for you reference:
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
Canon Powershot G15 starts supported from Adobe Camera Raw version 7.3.
Hereby, raw files from particular camera is not supported in Photoshop Elements 7.0.
However, you can use DNG converter to convert Raw files into DNG and import in CS4 aaplication.
The Digital Negative (DNG) format is Adobe’s proposed standard format for camera raw files. DNG files are useful for archiving camera raw images because they contain the raw camera sensor data and data specifying how the image should look. Camera raw image settings can be stored in DNG files instead of in sidecar XMP files or the camera raw database.
You can download the latest DNG convert from following place:

  • Bizarre problem trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into PSE7 Organizer

    Hi
    b Summary of problem:
    *I recently upgraded to PSE 7 / PRE 7
*I am trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into the PSE7 Organizer
*I get a "...did not contain any supported file types..." error on attempted import
    b HOWEVER...
*I can edit same footage in PRE7
*This footage is automatically added to the Organizer
*I can play this footage in the PSE7 organizer but generating thumbnails takes ages
*Camera: Sony HDR SR12 producing .MTS files (full 1920x1080i HD)
    *PC: Intel Core i7 940 CPU, 6GB RAM, RADEON HD 4870 512MB
    *OS: Vista 64 bit
    b Detail:
I have recently upgraded my PRE/PSE bundle to ver 7 primarily because the new version of PRE boasts support for AVCHD.
Having installed the new software I quickly tried editing footage in PRE7 with video taken on my Sony HDR SR12 camera (footage taken in full 1920x1080i HD) and it works! Hoorah! I can now finally edit AVCHD footage in it's native format using PRE. Thank you Adobe!
But my joy was very shortlived because when I tried to import some other footage from the same batch into my PSE7 Video Catalog it wouldn't work. I got a pop up box containing the following error:
i "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog."
Under this message is a list of the files that I tried to import. Next to each one there is a reason (it's the same reason for each clip):
i "Reason: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer."
To import files I use the following method: File / Get Photos and Videos / From Files and Folders
HOWEVER, the files that I imported directly into PRE7 in order to edit them have (surprise, surprise!) automatically been added PSE7 Organizer's Catalog. It takes a quite a while to generate a thumbnail for each clip but it does eventually do it and when it does I can play that footage in PSE7.
Just in case you're confused by this stage... If I try and manually add files to the PSE7 Organizer it doesn't work BUT if I edit that footage in PRE7 and then load the PSE7 Organizer I see the footage has been automatically added. This makes no sense whatsoever!
Am I doing something really stupid here? Why oh why will the PSE7 Organizer not import .MTS (AVCHD) files?!
NB: While searching for a solution to this problem I have, thanks to this Forum, found out about the K-Lite Codec Pack. I downloaded and installed the Basic pack v4.4.5 and now I can, at least, play my .MTS video files in Windows Media Player... I wish I had found out about that a couple of months ago because it would have saved me from buying Cyberlink PowerDVD 8!
Please someone help before I lose the plot.
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Hi
I'd just like to add an update to this post.
    b Summary:
*K-Lite Codec Pack clashes with Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software
*Analysis of video in Sony's PMB is well worth doing!
*You can Drag and Drop clips from Sony's PMB into PRE7
    b Detail:
As you've probably gathered I have now settled on using Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) to Catalog all my video. Sorry Adobe to talk about someone elses product but the Adobe Organizer just can't cope with AVCHD footage no matter how you manage to import it! It's far too sluggish and my PC has an Intel Core i7 940 CPU with 6GB RAM and a 10,000 RPM HDD!
Anyway, in my first post you'll have read me raving about the K-Lite Codec Pack but sadly I've had to uninstall it because it kept on causing PMB to crash. PMB runs much smoother and quicker WITHOUT that codec pack. Something about it clashed with PMB. The once agile PMB became sluggish and unresponsive.
Having now removed the codec pack PMB is back to being agile and generaly lovely.
To view AVCHD footage outside of PMB I have reverted to using Cyberlink's PowerDVD 8 - there's always a pregnant pause between double-clicking on the clip and it playing but that's the only drawback.
If you are going to use Sony's PMB for cataloging your video collection (and I recommend you do so BUT only if you have AVCHD footage - otherwise stick to Adobe's Organiser) then I can fully recommend "Analyzing" all of your footage. This takes time and a bit of patience because it kept stopping for no apparent reason but would readily start up again (without having to do anything else) BUT once it's done it'll reward you with the following:
*Filter on any combination of Scenery, People, Smiles - e.g. with a click of a button you can isolate footage that contains smiles, etc
*Face Search - if you select some or all of the footage in the right-hand pane it will then put a small thumbnail for all of the different faces in that selected footage in the bottom "Face Search" pane. If you then click on one of those thumbnails it will jump to the clip(s) that contain that face and grey out all the other clips
*Expand Videos - This tool is brilliant! In normal viewing mode you get a thumbnail of the video whether you're in Folder view, Calender view or Detail List view. If, however, you select "Expand Videos" from the tool bar it will show you a series of frames contained within that clip. You can choose from "Highlights" or various regular intervals (5 secs, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc). The Highlights option does a pretty good job of picking out the significant changes within the clip
Lastly, I have discovered that you can drag a clip from Sony's PMB into PRE7. It won't let you put it directly onto the Timeline but it will let you drop it into the Project file list (found under the Edit tab).
I do hope that this info has helped others like me who are trying to get to grips with editing and cataloging AVCHD footage.

  • The new ACR 5.5 update will not install in Elements 7.0

    Hello All:
This situation is now becoming ridiculous (well, for me that is).  I just tried to install the new ACR 5.5 update and it is "unable to install" into Elements 7.0.  I downloaded the update several times, unzipped the install file, but when trying to install, it just gives me a message that it is unable to install and to hit the "quit" button.
I have a Vista 64 Bit system with 12 Gigs of RAM.  I've installed Elements 7.0 and Lightroom 2.5 on my system - all with no problems.  For some reason, I could never get Photoshop CS-4 to install at all and I've been through the mill trying to install Photoshop - but nothing worked and had to eventually give up.  Trying to get Adobe support for CS installation on my 64 Bit system has been ridiculous in this regard as each and every time I called, I was connected with some techrep located in India who all they did was "parrot" back what I told them - how frustrating.  But as I mentioned, Elements 7.0 and Lightroom installed just fine.
The previous ACR 5.4 installed just fine into Elements, but now...ACR 5.5 will not install.  It tells me that I do NOT have CS-4 installed so it cannot install.  What's up with that? Has Adobe stopped supporting the latest ACR upgrades for Elements?  What gives?
Does anybody just have just the newest ACR 5.5 plug-in by itself that they can send me so I can just put it in my plug-ins folder (or a place where I can download it)?  Adobe used to just have the plug-in that you could unzip and copy and paste and put it into your plug-in folders - but not anymore.  Now they make it an 82 Meg install program and thus some of my problems.
Can anybody help here?  Why does the install program look for CS-4, yet overlook Elements 7.0 completely.  Helpppppppppp.
    Ben

    Hi Benherrmann,
Sorry to listen that you havent been able to install the Camera Raw 5.5 plugin.
But as far as my knowledge goes for PSE, PSE never lists Camera Raw plugin for updates in the Updater Preferences dialog i.e., if you will launch Help->Check for updates, a updater window will open. If you will check the preferences of that updater dialog, it will tell you that it never checks for updates for Camera Raw plugin unlike what happens in Mac. In Mac Camera Raw updates does get installs just by installing PSE(v6 of course as there is no PSE7 for Mac. Hopefully there will be a v8 for Mac by the end of october as seen in the last release).
Dont know exact reason why Adobe had configured it in that way? why there is some difference between Win and Mac.
So it prompts me that somehow you need to install Ps CS4 on the machine to get the patch installation through updater. Although this is not Ps forum, would you mind telling what error/issues are you facing while installing Ps CS4?
    Regards,
    Ankush

  • ITunes doesn't see PSE7 images

I had Photoshop Elements 8 installed, and iTunes could see those photos just fine. But then my trial expired, so I had to uninstall and use PSE7. The problem is that iTunes no longer sees my PSE7 catalog and instead sees the PSE8 catalog as it was before it was uninstalled. I managed to track down where iTunes apparantly copied the PSE8 catalog and deleted it, but now iTunes doesn't see any PSE catalogs at all.
Of course there is the option to sync with individual folders, but I'd rather not do that since PSE keeps them nice and organized, and iPod Touch doesn't show the folders within subfolders of the selected folder for photo syncing. So, how can I get iTunes to pick up my PSE7 catalog again?

I had something similar (if not the same) happen. I was going to transfer some new shows from iTunes on my laptop into my iPod. The msg I get from iTunes: "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "(iPod'S name)". Use the iPod Software Updater application to restore the iPod to factory settings." The best part....my iPod's empty! I don't know what happened but I tried to connect it to my work PC and it read the same. I can reload my iPod with songs/shows. That's not an issue BUT I'd like to know what may have caused this and how do I know it won't happen again?

  • PSE7 and Windows 7

I just updated my windows 7 and now my editor in PSE7 doesn't work. What can I do?

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
Solution 3: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  [version number]\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.
For related post for Twain please see this:http://forums.adobe.com/message/2954743#2954743

  • PSE7 External hard drive rename does not disconnect files but...

I am running Vista, and keep my pic files on an external HD (Drive F:).
Occasionally I would run into the issue that my EHD would get bumped to the G: drive (because I would plug something else into the USB port). When I would open PSE6 Organizer with the drive designated as G:, my files would show as disconnected. I could either search and reconnect all the files each time, or just remap (am I using that term correctly?) the drive back to F: and reopen the organizer and it would find them fine. I understood how to fix this problem in PSE6. I also assumed if I wanted to change my EHD designation, that would be the way to do it.
Here's the issue: I've upgraded to PSE7, converted my catalogs, and all is well WHEN the drive remains as F:. I want to remap my EHD to the W: designation (to solve the bumping to a different drive letter name issue). But now in PSE7, if I change the drive letter to anything other than F:, and then open the Organizer, the F: designation shows up as a 'ghost' (greyed out, and read-only evidently).
I can still view the files, edit them, print them, and if I try to reconnect like before, it tells me there are no disconnected files! I CAN'T move the files or folders, create new folders, add folders to watchlist, etc. (by right-clicking in the folder location view). Incidentally, the properties for each file lists them as on the W: drive, but clicking on a file points to a 'ghost/greyed' folder under the 'ghost' F: drive in the folder location view.
HOW can I change the drive designation and get the organizer to update the thumbnails to point to THAT drive designation, so I can work with all the files and folders like normal? Am I stuck on the F: drive forever???!!!
    Thanks!

John, Thanks for the reply. Here is what I get when I run the utility with my EHD set to F:, which is where PSE7 knows most of the the files to be. (I do have some occasional files on the internal C: drive.)

OKay, I KNOW there is a wrong drive letter in the catalog, but when this happened in PSE6, I could just reconnect files and go with the new drive letter. That's actually what I want to do here (as painful as it will be to reconnect all my files!) I'm tired of my EHD drive getting bumped around to different letter designations (and causing problems like this), so I'm trying to set it to something far out that won't get bumped.
    Help?

  • Cannot update Camera raw 5.7 on PSE 7

Anyone can help me on this update process?
I purchased an PSE7 and sucessfully installed into my pc(window XP SP2), Since I am using a newer camera and tried to open raw file. and it said 'did not support this type of file", I immediately update the camera raw by clicking help>update and found 1 update shown in the window box. I clicked update and download procedure follow, after that they installed automatically and finished updating in less then a minute. I closed the PSE7 and opened it again, it still cannot open the raw file, i check the help>system info, and I still saw camera raw 4.5, that means it was not updated , so anyone can guide me this or help me out what happen? I am not very good at computer, please explain detaily so I can try step by step. Thanks

ACR 5.7 only works with PSE8+.
According to the updates page, the latest version that works with PSE7 is ACR 5.6.  And I have both PSE7 and PSE8 on my computer and can verify that PSE7 gives an error message about the ACR 5.7 being incompatible if I overwrite ACR 5.6 with ACR 5.7 in the PSE7 directory.
An issue with the originally posted version was it was missing the CameraProfiles.exe that installs all the file-based camera profiles and that the instructions referred to PSE7 for the install location even though it was talking about PSE8 in the rest of the instructions.  Both of these mistakes have been corrected, but this won't make ACR 5.7 work with PSE7.

  • Camera raw 5.7 update/mac elements 8 issue

I purchased elements 8 on 4/19/10 and realized for some reason version 5.0  of camera raw came with the download...  seems like a newer version should have come with the purchase and download of elements 8.  Anyways, I attempted to download 5.7, followed the steps just as described, however, it does not seem to be working...  whenever I attempt to open it i get the message from PSE:  "could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file".  When I attempt to open a photo in camera raw it still opens it in 5.0, even though i removed that from fileformats folder as instructed and replaced it with the updated version...  It appears I did something wrong, i just can't figure out what.  any help would be much appreciated!

Camera Raw is released very frequently by Adobe.. and its advisable to use latest plugin to get better results/performance....

  • PSE7 Organizer does not start properly, screen flashes, PC stops

Hello. I can't find this problem mentioned on the forum.
I've used PSE4 and 5 in the past without problems. Have just completed a clean install of PSE7 (no PS or PSE previously installed on this system, a ThinkPad T60 with 2MB). The Editor runs fine.
I ran the Organizer once, set some preferences, pointed it at a small number of images to import, then the whole screen started flashing and soon my system stopped in its tracks - no blue screen.
Now, when I try and start the Organizer, it spends maybe half a minute "Generating thumbnails" without success (all the thumbnails have egg timers on them). It uses 50% CPU. It still says "Generating thumbnails" after half a minute or so when the screen starts flashing and the system crashes again.
    Any ideas?

    Fixed. Thank you John.
I renamed the preferences file but that made no difference.
So I repaired the catalog (errors were found) and optimized it. When I started the Organizer, thumbnails were displayed (that's progress) but then the screen-flashing started again (whole screen, as usual, not just the Organizer window). Before I could close the Organizer, my system stopped with a blank, black screen, and no response to any input. I had to hold the power button to power down. On reboot, it blue-screened. On next reboot it started normally.
So I created a new catalog and the Organizer started fine. Then I set it off getting photos from a folder of folders of jpegs (with the odd txt and other file type). After a few seconds, the screen-flashing started again, and I quickly closed the Organizer.
When I restarted it, the catalog was empty, so I had it get just one folder of photos at a time. On the very last one, the problem started again. I found an AVI file that I'd overlooked, removed it, and the problem went away. The AVI was one I recorded on a digital compact.
    The Help for Organizer says:
"The Organizer catalogs video AVI files properly, but audio AVI files are shown as broken video thumbnail icons. However, they will play correctly."
Hmmm...doesn't seem to be the case for me. Even if AVIs were unsupported or known to cause problems, I would never expect to see the symptoms I did.
Hopefully my experience will help others. Incidentally, I run XP Pro SP3, fully updated.

  • PSE7 with Windows 7 - Drag & Drop Problems

    Hello,
have some people experince in PSE 7 with OS Windows 7?
I have some problems with the Drag & Drop function. If I drag a picturce from the explorer into PSE7, PSE7 freeze and need two minutes to come back. Have somebody any idea / solution?
--> No updates available for the product (PSE7)
    Greetings Daniel

Hi, It works good for me. can you please make sure that the file you are dragging is not too large or is not currupt. can you please confirm that it is opening fine in other applications like Windows picture viewer?

  • Just bought PSE7, should I return it and swap for PSE8?

I had a brief look for PSE8 being on the horizon but didn't spot anything at the time (I don't know why but something I read led me to believe they were not yearly and regular as clockwork!).
Anyway the reason I was looking in the first place was that Amazon UK sent me an e-mail saying PSE7 was on special offer, so I downloaded the trial and was impressed with what you could do with the product. In the end I decided to get the PSE & Premiere 7 combo pack for £69, which seemed like a good price for two pieces of quality software.
However I now find out that the PSE & Premiere 8 combo pack is out soon, Amazon UK have it on preorder for £101. Now since I was waiting for my trial to expire and my copy of Windows 7 to arrive before installing it, my copy of v7 is still sealed and can still be returned under Amazon's return policy.
Question is, is it worth going to the expense/trouble of returning this version and then ordering the new version for a £32 premium?
Some reviews seem to suggest it's not worth the upgrade - but I'm not upgrading as I've never owned the product, the upgrade price would be around £60 for just PSE or £90 for both - so much more than it would cost me to return and rebuy.
Things that make me think PSE8 would be a good idea include - it supports Windows 7 which I'm getting when released (though I presume PSE7 will still work fine), I have no organisation to my photo's aside from folders relating to what month or event they were taken so I'm liking the idea of better organisation tools (although I don't know how good the PSE7 ones are, or if I'll actually ever get round to sitting down and doing it - I've had tagging programs before that I haven't had the time or patience to use), and the photo resizing thing looks like a cool gimmick (though I don't know if it has that many practical applications).
Things that make me think keeping PSE7 would be a good idea - PSE/Premiere 8 only really have minor changes for the most part, I got v7 for a special discount price and I'd be returning that to get a full priced product (although Amazon is a bit discounted as it should be £115, not £101), some people on this forum have been complaining about the stability of PSE8 and about some of it's new features, v7 is already set on my desk and ready to go, and this time next year v9 will come out that might have huge improvements so I could stick with the cheaper v7 and put the money towards v9 instead.
What do you think? Swap or keep?

but only because PSE8 will continue to get updates/bug fixes for the next year.
The only thing adobe ever updates for Elements is ACR and that usually works for quite a while after a version is superseded. At least so far they haven't been cutting off previous versions when a new one is released, the way they do in PS, so I wouldn't worry about that.
