PSE8 cannot open Adobe help viewer from organizer workspace

This has been working fine for the past week!  Last night, I uploaded some pics from my camera, posted them on Facebook, and also a shared volume I e-mailed via photoshop.com.   Now this feature no longer works, although I can view the tutorials from the home screen.  What's the deal?

Help in recent versions of PSE often doesn't work.  For workarounds, see this FAQ:

  • Cannot open .avi files imported from Nikon d90 in Adobe Premiere 6.0.

Cannot open .avi files imported from Nikon d90 in Adobe Premiere 6.0.
When I try to open the file I get the following error message:
    "cannot open that file
the file uses an unsupported file compression format"
I really need urgent help with this so if you know a soloution, please post it!

I don't do mjpeg so you will have to search the forum for advice
But... having a playback codec installed does not ALWAYS mean the codec will work for Premiere editing
After you search the forum and find the (I think free) codec vendors, you will need to install fresh so Premiere will "see" the codec for editing
    Or, Google
    convert mjpeg avi
To convert to DV AVI type 2 with 48khz sound so the files will "natively" edit in Premiere
My GUESS (you didn't say) is the d90 is a STILL camera that has a video function, not a true camcorder
If you plan to do much video work, you need a tape-based DV camcorder so you use Firewire to do a digital transfer as a "real" AVI that Premiere may edit without conversion or extra software
For a Firewire DV Camera - look at Panasonic PV-GS320 or GS500 (Note that I have not used either, but they have good reviews)

  • Cannot open adobe flash in safari

I have tried uninstalling flash, deleting safari.plist in library, re-installing flash v9 and still cannot
open adobe flash in safari. Anyone have other ideas to help resolve this issue?

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. This: http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?email&NewsID=19845 may also interest you.)
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
See also the very informative post from QuickTimeKirk dated Dec 3, 2007 in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1268489&tstart=0
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Cannot open CS3 Help Files

    Windows XP Pro; SP3; CS3
Following hard drive failure I downloaded CS3 to new hard drive. Individual applications downloaded and opened OK however I cannot access help file for any of the CS3 applications. When I open Indesign or Photoshop Help from the Help  drop down menu, the Adobe Help Viewer 1.1 appears. When I fill in the Browse and Search boxes on the Viewer screen and hit enter, a list of help topics appears. When I click on any one of those topics, the Viewer screen remains empty with the exception of the cursor arrow and hourglass. How can I access help files for CS3?

Sounds like the uninstall using the cleanup tool was not complete (and I feel like we're leading you deeper into the abyss, but I don't know what else to tell you). I'd see if you can "repair" from the installer disk, or run the cleanup again.
As I said before, the CS3 installer was the worst in Adobe history and would fail for the slightest provocation. It's VERY important that nothing that could conflict is running while you install, and you should be logged into the Administrator Accont for best results. One of the things that I forgot to mention earlier as a known problem is flash player, and you should uninstall that. There was a special tool for one of the versions that was likely to be on systems running CS3, but I'm on the raod and this machine is not loaded with a lot of my reference materials, so I don't have that link. It will be mentioned in earlier threads about CS3 installation problems from several years ago if you search.
As for the the latest error message you see, if my memory is correct, that one is fixed with this: Flexnet Patch. The description would lead you to believe it works only on Vista, but it does run on XP (and I needed to use it myself at one point).

  • Cannot open Adobe Photo Elements 10 on my PC

I cannot open Adobe Photo Elments 10 software on my PC.  I purchased the software from a local Best Buy retailer about one year ago and registered the product serial number with Adobe.  I also established an Adobe User ID and Password.  I paid for this product with my hard earned money and now I cannot open the program on my personal computer after having been able to do so in the past.  This is extremely poor customer service on the part of Adobe!!!   What are you going to do now to correct this problem or make a full refund to me?!
Also, what is the Adobe help desk telephone number?  This company ought to display their customer help desk telephone number, email address and chat line prominently on their website if they are serious about good customer service.
I am waiting now very impatiently!
If I don't receive a respond promptly I will be forced to file a formal complain with the Fairfax County Department of Consumer Affairs!

    Hi Dean,
I'm glad you got it all worked out. Here are two things that might help in the future with installation issues and serial numbers/activation issues:
If you have activation problems try, here -- http://www.adobe.com/products/activation/
There is an option to click a chat button on that page.
If you find you have installation issues, you might want to check the Adobe user forum called download, install and setup. It can be found at:

  • Cannot open nikon raw files from my 3200 in elements 8

i cannot open nikon raw files from my 3200 in elements 8

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
You would need PSE11 since the 3200 requires ACR version 7.1
Only PSE11 can have 7.1, so to be able to use your raw files with PSE9 you should download the free Adobe DNGconverter which can batch convert a whole folder of raw files into the Adobe raw DNG format which your PSE8 can open.

  • Cannot open adobe reader at all

I cannot open Adobe reader, even the icon on my desktop I mean. I have windows 7 and I could not open PDF file on web either. It will have a full blue bar telling me it is fully downloaded but the actual content never shows up. I tried uninstall and install for more than five times. Anyone could help?

Sorry, it is not quite clear to me if you have Adobe Reader actually installed or not.
I suggest that you uninstall it (again), then try installing with the full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Can't open Desctop Content Viewer from InDesign CC2014

    Hi everyone,
I urgently need to create one promo app using DPS. I'm using Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 and planned to use InDesign for creating this app. I have downloaded and installed  AdobeDigitalPublishingPatch-CC2014-31.0.1. yesterday. Everything worked fine. Unfortunately, today I can't preview my pages in Desktop Content Viewer as InDesign says it can't find it. When I tried to open Desktop Content Viewer from the folder Ive got this screen.
What do I need to do to resolve that error. Please advise.
    Best regards,
    Jana

I was trying to open and old .pmd Page Maker file that was created in a Windows version of Page Maker.  I am not sure what version they were saved in.  The file was created in July of 2006 if that helps.
It's been a long time since I was up to speed on PageMaker. The pmd file extension refers to Pagemaker 5, right? InDesign should be able to import the output of PM 6.5 and PM 7, but I've found that the PM6.5 import is usually pretty decent, while for some reason the PM7 import is flaky. This probably is a result of changes in the way the documents were build by the, ah, "designers," and has comparatively little to do with the abilities of ID to open PM files of various versions. PM5, however, can't be imported by InDesign, I think.
What happens when you try to open them? Does InDesign crash, or does it fail without an error message, or ??? More details, please.
Is there a way to open this file.  I also have a pdf that I created from this file.  I have Acrobat CS4  Is there a way to export the pdf back to an Indesign file.  Just another thought regarding this file.
Well, there's always the PDF2ID tool, but since PDF is an uneditable container format, the results of running a PDF through PDF2ID is not reliable. Sometimes you get something very much like the source document, but I've found that most often it is faster to rebuild from scratch. I didn't buy PDF2ID, but that is because my clients' bizarro formatting techniques break on conversion. A very simple document might come back a lot cleaner.

  • How do you open adobe reader docs from a cd-rom

How do I open Adobe PDF doc from a cd-rom

Yes, I recently bought a book with a cd-rom with it that has documents on the cd that I can copy and use for my students and use as assessments. When I load the cd-rom, it opens up in adobe acrobat reader window and it has on the upper right hand side TOOLS COMMENT SIGN . The doc's are highlighted in blue but I cant click on them because it either gives me this selection only; Seltct Tool, Marquee Zoom, Hand Tool. It will not allow me to just left click and print doc. Top menu has File, Edit, View, Window, Help and the usual zoom 100% or 150% . and the print icon is visable but it will prunt the the page not the specific document I want. It has convert files to PDF on line and convert files to Microsoft word online, sign in doc, So what is it that need to open the documents and just print?

  • Adobe Help Viewer Problem

For some reason, I recently noticed that the Adobe Help Viewer for After Effects CS3 is not displaying properly.  When I use the help viewer for any other applicaiong (I have CS3 Production Premium) it looks normal (like a flash display).  But I when I open it for After Effects, there is no image on top and the text is larger blue on a white background (instead of smaller on a greay background, etc.).  No images are displayed in the help text.  This just happens for after effects.  I have Help Viewer version 1.1, build 198.  I tried downloading the 1.1 update from the website (even though it's the same build number) but when I try to install I get an error in setup.exe.  Any ideas?
I can still navigate through the help viewer but it is definately not displaying properly.
    Thanks.

I don't know what's causing the problem that you're describing, but I recommend against using the Help Viewer for After Effects CS3. I recommend that you either use the After Effects CS3 Help on the Web or the After Effects CS3 Help document in PDF. For After Effects CS3 and After Effects CS4, the Help document installed on your hard disk is not as complete and current as the HTML and PDF versions available on the Web.
