PSE8 CR6.2 SLT-A33 Raw Images Distorted on Load

We're using PSE8 with Camera Raw 6.2 to edit Sony SLT-A33 raw files. We have taken some photos that have the sun in them. When we view the raw files in Camera Raw 6.2, the sun is a bright artificial red ball. And if there are any people in the forground of the picture, they are a bright artificial blue color. If we view the files in Photo Elements 8 Organizer or any other photo viewer that can view raw files, the picture looks normal.
Obviously, this has something to do with Camera Raw 6.2. Is anyone else experiencing anything similar, or have any idea what may be causing this? At this point, we're afraid to try to edit any raw photos in Camera Raw 6.2.

The reds and blues you are seeing are likely due to the clipping indicators being turned on.  Red indicates highlight clipping (one or more of the RGB channels is completely maxed out) and blue indicates shadow clipping (one or more of the RGB channels is zeros).
You can enable and disable the highlight clipping indicators by clicking on the triangles at either end of the histogram.  A thin white frame around the indicator means the warning will be persistent and you can turn it off by clicking on it.  When the indicator is not persistent you can get a temporary indication of clipping by hovering over one of the triangles.

  • Organizer 8 won't read SLT-A33 raw files

I updated to 6.2 camera raw plugin, but Organizer 8 still refuses to import .ARW raw files taken with my Sony SLT-A33. For example, from folder view I right click on a folder where I have Sony SLT-A33 .ARW files stored and select "Add Unmanaged Files to Catalog", and I end up with a message telling me that the .ARW file is an unsupported format. What gives?

Are you able to open the files in Editor? Does it throw a similar prompt like the
    one on Organizer?
Open Editor->Help->About Plug-in->Camera Raw . What version does the popup display for the Camera Raw plug-in?
Are you sure you installed the ACR 6.2 correctly as listed on the link : http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4810
Steps of installation from the above link:
To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements:
NOTE: You must follow all of the new instructions in order to successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop Elements.
    1. Exit Photoshop Elements
    2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.exe and follow the on-screen instructions
    3. Open My Computer
    4. Double-click Local Disk (C:)
    5. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\
    6. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    7. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 5.
    8. Launch Photoshop Elements

  • Fuji X10 raw image distorted

Adobe raw for the fuji X10 outputs a distorted image, the image is also cropped horizontally.
When opening a X10 raw file (.RAF) in adobe raw, the following unexpected results:
about 3% is cropped from horizontal field of view (symmetrical, both sides)
the image is then "stretched" to fit the horizontal resolution
    the status indicates a dimension of 6144 x 4608 pixels (the open dialog showed 4000 x 3000)
the image is stored as 6144 x 4608 pixels
Attached are 2 images, 1 converted by the camera, the other by adobe raw.
    Converted by camera:
Converted by adobe raw (version 6.6.0.261):
I find this quite annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    You are right!
Somewhere in the raw process with both silky and ACR converters pixels at each side are discarded. The pixels of about 1 cm of the yardstick (see picture) are not used. The camera's converter does utilise these pixels, BUT squeezes the image to a 0.96 : 1 ratio. This ratio is 1:1 longer focal lengths, the "pixel loss" is then nearly 0.
The pixels might not be output to the raw file or are discarded by the convertors. Perhaps this is done because of quality degradation of corner pixels / coverage at short focal lengths. I'll test to see if it is also related to aperture. NOT an adobe raw issue I should say.
Lower half of image: more pixels at the sides with jpg from camera
Image is squeezed when processed by camera

  • Survey on Number of RAW IMages in Aperture

I would be interested in knowing how many RAW images people are loading into an Aperture catalog? Does anyone have 100,000 plus images? Does it handle this many photos without slowing down considerably? Any feedback on this subject matter is appreciated. Thanks.

    100,000 images isn't a problem.
The key is not the number of images in a library, but rather in a specific project. I wouldn't put 5,000 images in a project, but I have 35,000 images in my library (250 GB) and there are no slowdowns to speak of. (Well, I don't click the "all images" smart album often )

  • How do I get PS CS3 to see Raw images

I had to upgrade my computer and the new computer is 64 bit Windows 7 system with a four core environment.  It came with Elements 7 preloaded and this works fine with raw images.  CS3 loaded apparently with no problems but when I try to open a raw image I get a message "not the right kind of document".  Have checked the raw plugin and it is there and the correct version.  Could it be the 64 bit giving the problem,

I see the same thing you are describing on my test bed system on which I have installed all the versions of Photoshop.  Specifically, when I try to open a raw file with an older version of Photoshop than the latest installed I see exactly the message you describe.
I'm not sure whether this is a conflict between Elements and the full version of Photoshop, or newer Camera Raw plugins vs. older, as I have PS versions 6, CS, CS2, CS3, and CS4 installed as well as Elements 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 on that system.
I'm guessing it's not truly possible to have multiple different versions of Camera Raw working on the system at once, because it registers one or some DLLs with the system that are incompatible with the older version.  That's just a guess though.
In my case, my testing doesn't involve the need to convert raw files with the older versions of Photoshop so I have just lived with it.  I will be interested in the answer, though.

  • Need help with Elements loading RAW images since I switched cameras.

I recently switched from a Canon Rebel XT to a Canon Rebel T1i. I have Elements 6.0 and was able to see RAW images with my old camera. For some reason the RAW images aren't loading in Elements now. I get a message saying the files are corrupt. I've tried different cards but still no difference. Any suggestions?

    Please read this TechNote:-
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407110.html
    It shows at:-
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html
you need at least ACR 5.4 for your T1i/500D
ACR 5.6 and therefore earlier versions work on PSE 6.
You should upgrade your PSE 6 to ACR 5.6; it does work on PSE 6 at least in WIndows. I know because ACR 5.6 works on my PSE 6 under Windows Vista.

  • How to correct distorted raw image?

The image i took was one of my desktop accessories from about one ft. away  and at 24mm wide angle.  in the image"s  four corners is the black edges of the lens.(raw one)  Also the front edge of the desk is curved inwards and i have some bowing of the desktop accessories.  how can this be corrected? I am sending two images one jpeg  and the other the raw image. The  second one is the RAW one.thanks!!  what else can be corrected in the raw image.

thank you. I used this filter ie the distortion slider  and then the edge slider  and this straighted out the image  and the black vignetting of the lens on all 4 corners of raw image.  Have a good day!!

  • PSE8 Crash open as Raw a .jpg image in Editor to get Raw Editor

Although it works in release 6/7, I crash when I try to open a .jpg image in the raw editor in PSE8.  I use menu file, open as, select an image, and select Camera Raw on  open as drop down menu and then click on Open.  At that point the editor crashes and goes away and has to be restarted.  Anyone have any workaround suggestions or is this broken until relase 9?

Same behaviour here (WinXP Pro SP3, PSE upgrade path was 3-4-5-6-7-8).
I also see 2 times Camera Raw in about plug-ins as well as in the Open as list. Chosing the first one in results in error message "The operation could not be completed, Class alread exists", using the second one in Open as results in error message (my translation from German to English) "This process could not be executed, because there was a program error" (As a software developer, I love this message ).
I'd be interested in solutions as well.

  • Iphoto is distorting RAW images from canon on mac mini

    Good Afternoon,
Please could some one help with a problem that has started to occur with my RAW images which i have been trying to import from My Canon 700d
When importing to iphoto the pictures seem to distort and either as below go multi coloured or cut half the image off.
i have the latest firmware installed on my camera and have the canon utilities installed on my mac mini and have also tried transfering the images via cable and via a card reader.
the images appear fine on my mac book pro and on the camera
my memory card is also a class 10 30mbps

You could try to revert to the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update, that came out in December.
For example, Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.07
or  to RAW support 6.01. It helped in a similar case:
Re: Digital Camera Raw Compatibility 6.02 - Nikon D800
Any of the earlier raw support versions 5.01 or later should work, since your camera has been supported since Mavericks.
Make a backup of your system and try to downgrade the RAW support to version 6.01
To downgrade the RAW Support to the last version from before the last update try this:
To reinstall the 'RAW Compatibility Update' it is necessary to uninstall the currently installed raw support. Otherwise the installer will rightfully say, that you already have the latest version installed.
If your tests are showing that the problem happens also in a different user account, try this:
The RAW support files are installed in the System Library in the folder "/System/Library/CoreServices" Folder:
To open this folder, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Click the smiling Finder icon in the Dock to bring the Finder forward.
Then type the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G  (for "Finder > Go > Go to folder")  and copy and paste "/System/Library/CoreServices" into the text field. Click the "Go" button.
In the Finder window that will open, delete both the files "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle". You will have to enter your Administrator password. (don't empty the Trash, so you can put the files back, if need be)
Download the current RAW support update from Apple's Support Site:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1777?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
In the Downloads folder you will find the disk image with the installer. Double click it to open and run and the installer.
    Then restart your Mac.

  • PSE8 opening raw images for Nikon D3s

I have downloaded a trial version of PSE8, which is supposed to open raw images from my Nikon D3s.  If the 5.6 update is installed, you are supposed to be able to open raw images from my camera.  However, I can't open any raw images.  Any suggestions on how to proceed?
Adobe does not offer phone support for trial versions. I have tried online support but have received no response to date.  I wanted to test "Opening Raw" before I decided to purchase PSE8.
    Message was edited by: AIRSTREAM1

Make sure you have the correct version of ACR as the D3S is a recent model only supported by ACR5.6. Some of the Adobe links for ACR have been found to be for earlier versions.
You can easily confirm what version you have by opening the Editor (Full Edit) in PSE8.
Click on: Help > About plug-in > Camera Raw
You should see a screen confirming what version you have - just like the attachment.
If you don't have version 5.6.0.148 download the plug-in again using one of the links below.

    Try this:
RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)
    From the post:
The solution was to remove and re-install the RAW support from Apple.
    The solution was to
remove "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle" from the /System/Library/Coreservices Folder
(In Terminal.app: "cd /System/Library/CoreServices/", "sudo rm -r *Raw*" (WARNING, THIS REMOVES THE FILES INSTANTLY!))
    Reboot the system
Re-Download the Raw Compatibility update 5.06 form Apple Support: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1757 and install it
Restart Aperture, reprocess the affected files and order the photo book.

  • Colour distortion on Raw images

So iphoto 6 imports the raw images OK from my Nikon D70 to my Macbook Pro. I open them to edit and after about 10 seconds, the image looks like it's been "posterised". This doesn't happen with jpegs on the Macbook pro and strangely enough it doesn't happen to raw images on my imac using iphoto 5!!
Has anyone experiencd this and has been able to fix it?
    Thanks for any help.

It has something to do with the display profile set in the Displays System Preference.
I can switch into and out of the problem by simply choosing the default display profile or my custom profile. I haven't been able to narrow down the exact cause, but I suspect it may be the white point or gamma setting (since I didn't touch anything else)
(You do have to quit iPhoto and launch it again after changing profiles, but you will see the difference)

  • Problems Importing RAW Images - Photo distorted

I am having problems importing RAW files to Aperture. I have a Canon 450D and I import Both RAW & JPEG. On the import tab it shows all photos correctly, naming the RAW .CR2. However, once imported and processed the RAW images appear as either black only or in the thumbnails, lines of colour.. I have tried just importing RAW only but same result. I have updated the latest software from Apple so am at a loss. Any assistance would help. Cheers

    Mel,
I haven't use the DPP Canon software in a long, long time. (And I never used it on a Mac).
These next few statement and questions are concerning troubleshooting. (I.e., I have no preconception of the answer and I'm not trying to be daft. )
Can you view a photo from the DPP software, if that photo was not imported by the DPP software?  If so what do your Aperture RAW files look like in DPP?
When you import files by DPP, are they the same format that you are expecting to get by directly importing into Aperture from the camera?  If not... Hmm.  Not sure what to make of that...
Concerning the SD card, yes it's possible that some are corrupt.  Best practice is to extract your photos from the card, and then (when you have backed up the photos), use the camera to format the card.  If you are satisfied with your backup situation, I would try formatting a card, taking some RAW photos, and then importing into Aperture to see what happens.

  • Downloaded Camera Raw update 6.2 but still can't open raw images

I followed all the steps as indicated on this page: Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.2 update but for some reason I still can't open .CR2 files . My camera (Canon Rebel T3i) is on the list of supported files. What should I do? I'm using Windows and I have Photoshop elements 8.0.

You need camera raw 6.4 for your camera. It is mot compatible with PSE8. You need to upgrade to PSE13. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in PSE8 (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:
