PSE8 Editor WILL NOT open!!!

Just received PSE8 as a gift and everytime I try to open the editor I get the following error message "PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
I've uninstalled and reinstalled with my firewall and antivirus turned off..still get the same thing.  I'm running Windows XP with service pack 3.  Any ideas??
Thanks.

Unfortunately, there are many reasons why the PSE Editor might crash, and often it is hard to diagnose quickly the reason for the crash.   Here are some steps you can take to try to fix the problem:

  • Editor will not open.  How to fix?

We had our printer software worked on yesterday.  Now the PSE8 editor will not open.  The words "launching editor" shows up for several seconds then nothing happens.  The organizer opens fine.  I tried deleting the settings with the control-alt-shift combination and that did not help.  I also uninstalled then reinstalled the PSE8 software and that did not fix it either.  How can I repair this?

Try right clicking the desktop icon or the edit button on the welcome screen and choose “Run As Administrator”

Hi, Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below: Solution 1:1. Close Elements.2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences. Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list. Solution 4: On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:    Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Locales\\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.    Now launch PSE and check if it works.    For related post for Twain please see this:http://forums.adobe.com/message/2954743#2954743 Thanks,Garry

Photoshop 11 Editor will not open. Also I can edit in quick edit, but when I do copy of picture is sent to recycle bin. I am using Windows 7

I have solved the problem myself.  I noticed when running Task Manager
that I was using a lot of resources (>60% CPU) when running Organizer.   I
disabled Auto Analyzer and Face Recognition and all is fine now.  I will  add
one or the other a little at a time to see which is actually  causing the
    problem.

Re- name SLCache folder present at location "<root drive:>\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\SLCache"  (to oldSLCache for example)
Win: Also rename opm.db on your machine to resolve this issue @  <root drive>\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE  (to oldopm.db for example)
         Mac : Users Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE

•You MUST use an account with Administrator Privileges to run Premiere Elements
•(Doing Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 [says Encore and also for "All" versions of Premiere] will sometimes fix "odd" errors)
•What version of Premiere Elements? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Elements 12 with the 12.0.1 update).
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.9.4"---not just "Mac"

    Hi,
Please try out the following workarounds and see if it helps:
    1. Renaming SLCache and SLStore folders
    Please go to following location:
    WIN:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
    MAC: System Library/Application Support/Adobe
and rename the SLCache folder present there.
Similarly, rename SLStore folder present at following location
    WIN: C:\ProgramData\Adobe
    MAC: System Library/Application Support/Adobe
After renaming these folders, try to login into the sign-in screen again.
In case it does not help, try out this:
    2. Switch the User account to Hidden Administrator. Try signing in from there.
Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on your WIN machine. To enable the same, please refer to link.
Sign Out of current user account and then log in with the new account created.
Try launching Photoshop Elements Editor and login into the sign in screen that pops up.
If editor launches up fine, you can disable the Hidden Administrator account created in first step. Steps to disable the account have been mentioned in the same link.
    Thanks,

  • Help! My PSE8 Editor will not work!

When I try to open it, the editor will not load and I get an error message when I attempt to open a previously saved document I did in photoshop. the message says that the editor will not work. I already tried the ctrl+alt+shift keys at startup.

I am having the same issue. In my case the software was inside the new computer that i've purchased. It is a vaio with windows 7, 64bit.The organizer runs normally from the first time. When I tried to open the editor, appeared the license agreement on which you have to accept in order to continue. I clicked accept but absolutely nothing happened. Then I had to start task manager and close the program because it didn't respond.
I also tried to restart my pc and re-do the whole process, but again nothing changes.Any ideas?

  • Photoshop Elements 13, photo EDITOR will not open.

Purchased Photoshop Elements 13. Install seemed to work with no issues. Organizer opens with no issues. Editor does not open; when I click on Editor, the blue loading bar moves for about 6 seconds, then stops, and nothing opens.
Any help would be nice... first time Photoshop buyer.

    Hi Sunier,
I don't know if you solve your problem, but I solved mine...
Editor would not open, I had to sign in,  then Accept the terms of the license and it would bring me back to the Welcome page where a had the choice of  ''Organizer or Editor''
The problem was created bye Internet Explorer.  I had to go in Internet Options,   Connections,  LAN Settings and Remove the check at the bottom   ''Use proxy server for your lan''
After that I restarted my program and It start working. I did notice that the check on ''Use proxy server for your lan'' comes back but do not affect my program to start after.   It was on the first time that I was
trying to run the program after the install (what I mean, is I did not run photo shop before this install)
    Hope it can help you

  • Elements 12 editor will not open from Organizer

Problem started about three weeks ago.
When I am in Adobe elements organizer and try to bring a photo into adobe elements editor it will say that it is going to open up the editor for about a minute then it will never open the editor. It will do this no matter if I right click on the picture to edit, click the edit button at the bottom of the screen, or if I go to the context menu and click edit. The adobe editor will open and I can manually open a file into it form the adobe editor program but the the editor use to work just by right clicking on the picture and selecting edit. I have checked the preferences in organizer and adobe elements editor is the only one listed not external editor is checked.  I tried to add adobe elements editor as the external editor to see if I could get it too work that way but the program will not allow me to do that. I have also tried the ctrl - shift - alt and clear the settings and that solution does not work either. I have tried restarting the PC, uninstall and reinstall, and installed any or all updates to the program and OS. Why has this stopped working?

Two suggestions:  the first one is a workaround. You just have to drill down your program file tree to Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer and find the .exe file - the one specifically for Organizer, not Elements.  Make a shortcut to that file on your desktop and it will open Organizer. The second suggestion resolved the problem altogether for me. I actually called Dell and after working with several different techs over several different days, I talked to a tech in premium support who was excellent. I discovered from them that it is actually a problem with the windows system files. I have 8.1.  I went through a "refresh" on my computer which rebuilt all the files. Then reinstalled Adobe as well as my other programs again and Photoshop Elements Organizer works from the standard desktop shortcut.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 Editor will not open

I'm running Windows Vista (Home Premium) on a Sony vaio laptop that exceeds (by a landslide) all of the requirements to operate Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.  The organizer opens just fine and functions properly.  When I try to open the editor (either through the organizer or by its self it states "launching" and does not open.  Instead within three to five seconds I get a small windows error window that pops up stating "Photoshop Elements Editor has stopped working" even though I can't even get the editor to open.  I've tried some of the support suggestions on the Adobe web site but clearly this is something else.  I've also removed and reinstalled the software twice with no changes.  I downloaded all of the windows updates as well.  PLEASE HELP!

    Re: Photoshop Elements 8 Editor
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go to c:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.
I found this in the Elements forum and it worked!!!!
