PSE8 in mac (10.5.8)

I am lost. None of what I read in the help PDF seems to relate to my PSE8. There's no little house button. There's no default welcome screen. There's no organizer workspace. All of the help and the videos show 4 boxes on the top right where I only have 3.
I'm assuming that all of the above is because I'm on mac and not windows. So, is there help for mac users???
My main concern is that I am trying to open photos in the editor but all it will do is open it in another window. It's fine but it's not the editor - no choice of full/quick/guided. The window lets me do some things but I've had those capacities in other, free, programs. It certainly doesn't let me use the kinds of tools that I bought PSE8 for.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.   Being a mac user I am easily frustrated (thus my screen name) with non-intuitive programs. I expected it to be a bit of a challenge but not the part about just getting the photo onto the screen! Yikes.

Thank you for the correct pdf link. That ought to help a lot.
Barbara:
How do you convert the file into something else in order to open it and then safe it. (I'm assuming that there is a stage between raw and tiff/jpeg... that will allow me to open it into PSE.)
"Raw files always open in the raw converter. A raw file is not an image file yet: it's three separate bunches of data, one for each color channel, and must be converted into something that you can recognize as a photo. You must use the Open button to open the converted file into the editor, then save it in the image format of your choice for use outside of PSE/bridge."
So appreciate the help! Whole new language!

  • PSE8 for Mac: Convert to DNG in Bridge Photo Downloader fails

Using PSE8 for Mac.  When I get RAW photos from Bridge and specify "Convert to DNG" in the advanced options of the Photo Downloader, the RAW files download but the conversion to DNG fails for every image.  I can successfully convert using the standalone DNG Converter, but I would like to use the option in the Photo Downloader that comes with Bridge.  I'm in touch with Adobe Support on this but not having a lot of luck.  Has anyone had this problem or know what to do?
Also, I cannot see the RAW images either in the Photo Downloader or in Bridge.  They show up as blue squares with a flower graphic on them in the Downloader, and as white squares in Bridge.  I can only see images once I open them in Elements.  Is this normal?

Also, I cannot see the RAW images either in the Photo Downloader or in Bridge.
This is the source of your problem. You need to update the raw converter in bridge, which ships with a very old version (5.0). In bridge, go to help>updates and let it do its thing.

  • How do i create a revolving pic in PSE8 for mac?

I want to have a small gif of 3 pics that revolve every 1-2seconds. it would be 150x100 so pretty small. is there a way to do this in pse8 for mac? thanks in advance.

You create an animated gif by making a layered file (each layer is like one cel in the animation), then using save for web to save it as an animated GIF. However, there's a bug in PSE 6 and 8 for mac that won't let you adjust the animation speed, so you'd be better off using a program like gifbuilder or giffun:

  • PSE8 for Mac - The Missing Manual?

    Barbara B. & others,
When is the release date for The Missing Manual for PSE8 for Mac? Will the format be similar to that for PSE6 for Mac?
    Thank you.

Well, it would be better to pm me on this, since I'm not really supposed to talk about that here, but it's been printed and is on the way to the various distributors. Yes, format is pretty much the same as the PSE 6 book.
Anyone else with questions, please contact me directly. Thanks.

Pse 8 and Bridge cs4 seems to work okay here on mac os x 10.9.4 mavericks.
The only trouble i've had is with the output module in bridge cs4, which has crashed on occasion.

  • How can I get a copy of PSE8 for Mac?

I moved from a Mac Pro 1,1 to a Mac Pro 5,1 and Mavericks. From this forum I learned that Apples Migration Assistant will not work to move PSE8 to the newer computer. I cannot find any installation software in my files and I now see that downloads for Mac are not available. Is there anything I can do? Am I now locked out of Photoshop?

There is a Mac link on the page below.  You should be able to download the trial version of the software and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • PSE8 for Mac.  Where is the slide show option in the Mac version?

I just watched an Adobe TV video on how to do a slide show in PSE8, but when I go to my CREATE tab, the only slide show option is "PDF Slide Show" and when I click it, it bounces me back to Adobe Bridge and gives me a very limited set of Playback options and then produces a PDF document and not a slide show.  Where is the Create Slide Show in the Mac version of PSE8?

    Hello,
The not-so-satisfactory answer is that, that's all there is: the pdf slideshow file is output from Bridge and plays (in my case) with Adobe Acrobat.   That is, Adobe Reader will also open the pdf and play / progress at whatever time interval is selected with the Bridge pdf maker controls.
I agree: that you have to start by selecting the pdf creation in Pse 8 -which then bounces you to Bridge - is quite unintuitive.    I'm just supposing that, since Bridge is literally the "bridge" to this process, it made sense to follow this logic when creating the Pse / Bridge software.

  • Missing photomerge panorama on PSE8 on Mac

I seem to be missing the photomerge panorama. When I choose File->New the option for panorama is greyed out and not selectable. It is also not available on the Edit Guided option.  The other photomerge programs are okay (group shot, faces, scene cleaner, exposure.)  I have PSE 8 with Mac OS X 10.6.2.  I have already tried reinstalling the software.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I was looking for a fix for the same problem (photomerge panorama is greyed out) in windows (Vista), and saw this post. I am using PSE6. One user in the forum said that he downloaded the trial version of PSE8, and that fixed his problem. I tried that, with no success. (I was able to use photomerge panorama on the trial version, but it didn't help with PSE6) Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • Can't set frame rate on animated GIF PSE8 on Mac

When saving an animated GIF in Elements 8 (running on Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard) I can't modify the frame rate. It is set at the default .2 delay and can't be modified. Anyone know of a fix for this?
    Thanks.

Thanks Barbara... I have used that very workaround already - but was hoping there was a solution so I could just do it in the app designed for this! So unfortunate that Adobe knows about this bug and hasn't fixed it!

  • Why wont install pse8 on mac?

I downloaded trial Photoshop Elements 8 ok and i use snow leopard and install screen freezes at "Preparing to Install" but after 2 hours it does nothing.
    Any ideas why?

    Hi,
Could you please attach the log files in the forum which can be found at this location:
    Library\Logs\Adobe\Installers\
named as "Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 8.0 xx-xx-2009.log.gz" and "Uninstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 8.0.0.0 xx-xx-2009.log.gz"
Could you please also let us know if you have ever installed PSE 8 Beta build on the same system AND what all other Adobe products are installed on the machine?
I know this might not console you but PSE8 is working fine on may Snow Leopard machines and therefore the issue is not with the installer itself but with the conflicts happening on your machine. So please be patient and help us with the above information while we try to get you started.

  • Problems getting Raw 6.1 to work on PSE8 on Mac

Terrible problems and no idea wot to do next.
Have downloaded Raw update 6.1 that has my cameras update (EOS 550D).  I've put the file as instructed into the Fileformats folder.  Can't open .CR2 files in PSE 8.  Despite following the instructions they don't load.
Anyone have any ideas.  Getting well p****d off about it.  Have been trying to solve this for weeks and nothing I do works.

    Barbara
Thx for your reply.  I'm sure I did remove the old one and replaced it as per their instructions.
The below is a copy from the plug in folder from System Info on PSE8
"Camera Raw 6.1 (250), Copyright © 2010 Adobe Systems Incorporated - from the file “Camera Raw.plugin”"
Despite that .CR2 files are still showing up as not recognised.
I will have to process raw files in DPP and then bring them into PSE 8 as JPEGs.  This is b****y annoying as it just adds to the workloads.  Not happy. The adobe support is rubbish.  I'm following their instructions and it just does not work.

  • Pse8 on Mac OSX 10.5.8 - Bridge won't work

    Hi,
I have just installed pse8 on my iMac.  When I click on the Bridge icon or select Bridge in the welcome screen nothing happens.
Bridge CS4 is installed in my applications folder but when I double click on it I get the following error message:
You can't open 'Adobe Bridge CS4' because it is not supported on this architecture.
    Very grateful for any help.
    Regards,
    Nick

Apologies for going quiet for a couple of days.  I have been investigating a couple of other lines of enquiry and I am delighted to be able to tell you that I have found a solution to my problem with Bridge.
May I first of all say a very big thank you to Barbara, Ankush and Maize to replying to my original post and making some very helpful suggestions.  I appreciate the time and research that went into your replies for which I am very grateful.
I contacted Adobe Support and they replied:
' Nick, I would like to inform you that, I researched on it and found that
other users are also facing the same problem. You can check it here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/370664?tstart=0
This problem can be because of your Operating System, what I can
    suggest
you, please try to contact Apple for this issue, and I will research
    more on it.'
At first sight the reply seemed less than helpful and seemed to pass the back to Apple but as it turned out, the seeds of the solution were there.
Firstly I visited the link given and the original poster had the same problem with Bridge but had installed it with CS4.  The discussion ran to 47 replies with some quite acrimonious exchanges but no solution.  What most people thought was that the installation disk or download had become corrupted.
So I uninstalled my copy of Elements (installed from CD) and downloaded the trial version form the Adobe web site.  But no luck , the problem still remained.
A good friend of mine had told me that he had recently purchased Elements 8 and as his iMac has an identical spec to mine and running OS10.5.8.  I phoned him and discovered that his installation had worked fine and Bridge loaded with no problems.
Just ot make sure that my problem was not down to a the (very unlikely) possibility corrupted disk I lent my copy to another friend and, guess what?  yep it loaded and ran faultlessly.
Now the only thing that my two friends had in common was that neither of them had installed any Adobe software previously except Acrobat, so I began to think along the lines that the root of the problem was in the fact that I was running CS3 (CS Bridge worked fine) but some while ago I downloaded the trial version of Photoshop CS4 then deleted it after the trial period ran out.
By this time I was thinking that I had nothing else left to try other than (to me) the fairly radical approach of uninstalling CS3 (I have the full Design Premium Suite that I use professionally).  I was really reluctant to do this in case I had problems re installing and was suddenly left without a means of earning an income - unlikely I'm sure but it's the sort of thing that goes round and round in your head at 3 in the morning.  In any event I don't really need Bridge as long as I have a working copy of the Elements 8 it would really suffice for teaching my digital imaging class.
One phrase also kept coming back to me - the error message when I tried to open Bridge - 'Not supported on this Architecture'.  I had already been thinking along these lines when I posted the question about whether Elements 8 required Snow Leopard, but then Maize had replied that his works fine under 10.5.8
What the heck, it must be worth a try.  So I dug out the Snow Leopard update disk that had been sitting in my desk draw since August.  I made Time Machine do one final backup and carried out the update.  It was quite scary!! It took about 45 minutes including quite a long period when I was presented with a blank light blue screen and nothing seemed to be happening but eventually all was well and by familiar desktop background appeared with everything seeming to be intact.
So I re installed Elements and with some trepidation clicked on the bridge icon.
    SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!  IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no idea why updating the OS had the desired effect but maybe someone with a lot more technical knowledge and experience could explain why as I would be fascinated to know.
One again many thanks for everyone's assistance.
    Regards,
    Nick

  • Slideshow in pse8 for mac

Um. I'm trying to create a sldeshow that I can upload to youtube.  When I click create/create pdf slideshow it opens bridge and allows selection of some pictures, but never does anything else.  I read the threads here about this whih described the slideshow ccreator as "lame."   I can't get it to work at all.
    What am I missing here?
After looking through comments and tutorials, I found that that bridge has a create slideshow option on the output icon on the toolbar.  ok, so how do iI get it to enable?  I select pictures; I open them into elements,,,   nothing.
As a general comment, a friend of mine convinced me that mac and photoshop was the way to go. I decided not to spring for a full photoshop, so I can't comment on that.   But so far my experience of the upgrade from windows elements 5 to elements 8 for mac overall has been lame.  I had trouble with the install (I got a font missing or corrupted error);  the blending dropdown on the layers menu has to be clicked for each change unlike the windows version and really slows my workflow.   Bridge in general seems behind organizer.   Now this, the slideshow maker, which worked just fine in windows, doesn't appear to work at all.    I just viewed the elements 9 video on slideshows, which said that this was a windows only feature.  Duh.
A comment by Barbara suggested that Adobe thought iphoto, iwhatever was enough. It would be nice if Adobe said that upfront, and showed at the beginning how to integrate elements into iphoto.  I've wasted two days searching the forums and the tutorials to figure that out.
I recently bought a drawing tablet and got a free Elements 7,   I think I may install it on my laptop.
The only real advantage of the mac has been the screen.
At this point, call me a dissatisfied customer of elements for mac

    Thanks fo rthe response.
Concretely, I still don't have any idea of what the create/pdf slideshow button does besides take you to bridge,
The windows version is a wizard that allows you to select pictures from organizer and then arrange the pics, choose transitions etc
In bridge I see no further steps to complete the slideshow.
Except...   there's an output/pdf menu in bridge.  If that's it, how do you get that to enable?
There really is no documentation that says in one place how to handle this.  It was only by finding your comment in the forums,
and then the demo on making pe the iphoto editor, that I was able to infer that this was the likely way to go.
    That is not adequate.
