PSE8: Rotated picture isn't saved in folder of the original

I have encountered a strange problem (for me). Whenever I rotate a picture in the PSE8 Organizer which is located on my NAS, the rotated picture is saved in the local folder (which you can define in the preferences dialog). This is really annoying. I can drag the picture (or the complete stack) back to the original folder on the NAS in PSE8. So there shouldn't be an access/right problem.  Is there a solution of this strange behaviour? When I rotate a picture in a folder on the local harddisk, the rotated image stays in the original folder.  Thank you very much!

Yes, your catalog has two entries in the volume table for your network drive that differ only in the case of the UNC path, and this is most likely causing your problems.
Did you convert this catalog from an earlier version of PSE? I know that in PSE 8 Adobe fixed one bug with respect to the case of the path, and I'm wondering if this is another bug still remaining in PSE 8 or whether it was introduced by your earlier version of PSE.
As for fixing this, your only option is to download the SQLite Database Browser tool and modify the internals of your catalog file.  I can give you a sketch of what you need to do if you want, but if you haven't worked with Microsoft Access or relational databases before, it may not be something you want to take on.   And I'm not sure whether the bug might come back to bite you again.

  • After import from Iphoto some pictures are of very low quality. The original file in Iphoto is very good.

    Final cut Express
I imported several pictures by using Iphoto. Some of them, not all, are of very low quality even if the original file is of a very good quality.

It sounds as though you may have imported the thumbnails but I can't imagine how.
It all depends on what you mean by very low quality.
Your iPhoto  pictures will be around 4,000x3,000 pixels but when they are imported into a standard def timeline they will be around 720x540 which is a tremendous reduction.
They should still look OK but not  as good as the brilliant hi-res originals.

Simply trash everything. You screwed yourself and made a mess, anyway. You need to install the program properly from scratch.

  • Rotated files in Bridge, do not appear in the original

I have found a recent problem in the Bridge in that if you select a set of photos in Bridge then rotate them they don't all rotate. Usually only the first one will rotate and the rest will stay the same way up.
Also - and more importantly - when an image is rotated in Bridge it is NOT now rotated in the real JPEG image.
I have looked through the preferences and can't see anything that would cause this.
Has anyone else found this problem - any ideas of a work around?
    Thanks

First try to use the menu Tools-Cache - Purge cache for folder.
If this is no help restart Bridge holding down option key to refresh
    preferences.
Set preferences again to your wishes and try again.

  • Is it possible to link a resized picture without having it fit automatically to the original frame?

I have two Adobe illustrator images that are very similar, the first is 5 inches wide the second to replace it is 3 inches. I would just place and scale the image in InDesign, but I had to change line weights and shapes because some proportions of the image would just be too small.
When I relink the file it scales the image to fit the existing larger frame. Is there any way the relink file with keeping content of the new file at 100%. I know I can use the content grabber to see how much the content was scaled and fix it, but it is annoying step where you still have to select "fit frame to content afterwards". InDesign, as far as I can tell, gives no warnings to let you know that an image when relinked was  stretched to fit the frame.
    -Thanks

It's in the application prefs, under File Handling. Check or uncheck the box to Preserve Image Dimensions When Relinking. When checked, the relinked image will be scaled to the same dimensions as the old version (possibly distorted). When unchecked, the new image will come in with the same scale factor as the original, which sounds to me like what you want in this case, but I'm not certain  (this is often true for .ai files where an edit is made that moves an element, affecting the art bounding box and you've cropped to art or bounding box rather than media).
Sometimes, if what you want is a 100% zoom it's just easier to place the new image on the pasteboard and move it into position, deleting the old one.

  • Original picture changed while saving the edited one

    Hi,
I am an absolute beginner using Camera Raw.
I just edit a picture in Camera Raw 5.7. When I was finished I saved the edited picture using a new name. Unfortunatly the original picture has also changed. So now I have two identical edited pictures with different names but the original picture is gone. How can I keep the original?
    Regards, Nicole

The original image is still there...it's just had processing parameters added to the raw file. If you really don't want them you can either go into Bridge, Edit, Develop Settings and hit clear. But if you do that you will loose all the work you put into making the adjustments...you might be better off going back into Camera Raw and create a snapshot of the settings them you can reset the image to it's default settings...

  • Pictures aren't saving properly

Alright, this has been really stressing me out the past few days.
In my settings, I have pictures set to automatically save into a file I titled "Pictures and Files". However, when they save, they send to a weird folder within skype called media_cache. I would be fine with this if it weren't for the fact that when they send this way, they don't have titles.
This is a frustrating problem because when my friends send me something and I ask what it is, they tell me to "read the title".  I can't, because for some reason Skype decides not to send the title along. How do I make sure it sends to Pictures and Files and actually shows me the original title?
    Thank you in advance.

  • ITunes isn't saving songs to my external hard drive like I want.

    Hello,
This might be a simple problem.
I have my iTunes set-up to download directly to my external hard-drive. However, when I inport a CD....it's not showing-up in my external hard-drive?! Since I am assuming the songs are being stored somewhere, I would liek to know how to get them on my external hard-drive and then make sure they're actually NOT on my PC.
Many thanks for anyone that can help this not-so-tech-savy individual though this!
    THANKS!

If you go to Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced, you will see the location of the iTunes Media folder. The default location is My Music\iTunes.
This is where iTunes will store imported CD and purchases from the iTunes store.
You can change the location to your external drive, but this only produces an effect in the future. Anything already added, stays where it is.
If you want to move stuff, you have to consolidate your library. File>>Library>>organise.
But be aware that this copies things into the iTunes Media folder, leaving the original intact.
If you use an external drive you must have it working when you start iTunes or iTunes will go back to the default location for the iTunes media and then you will have to reset preferences again.

  • HT3842 Does iTunes store the original music file and copy it into a separate folder? If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library?

Hi, on my last PC when transferring music to my new MacBook Pro i noticed i had about 6 duplicated of each song in every album i took hours in removing them.
I Just wondered Does iTunes store the original music file and then copy it into a separate folder?
If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library or vice versa. I didnt want to lose any music like i have some how managed to on my old computer.
Or should i keep both files of it in the Music folder and also iTunes library folder?
    Which is best ?

    DrewPowell wrote:

It does both at the same time.
When you add files to iTunes, it copies them into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder. The original file remains where it was.
You can drag a file to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
This will add to iTunes and move it to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/.
I keep a shortcut of this folder on my desktop then simply drag files to the shortcut to add to iTunes.
Then there are no "extra" files around.

  • What's the point of a virtual copy if it can't be in a different folder from the master?

When I spotted "Make virtual copy" on the context menu, I thought "Great - I can organize my photos in different ways without wasting disk space by using aliases!"
But when I tried to move the virtual copy to another folder, LR said Nope!
So I moved the master - and the copy moved with it.
What am I missing? I've seen the reference to Smart Collections, but they seem to be based on ratings or flags, not arbitrary subject-matter groupings.
So I created a "dumb collection" (my term, in distinction from the automatic groupings), made virtual copy and copied the virtual copy to the collection.
Then I then went back to the original folder and deleted the virtual copy from the original folder.
It vanished from the collection as well.
Is a virtual copy merely a way to make and save an alternative edit of a photo - but only in the same folder as the original?

A virtual copy is virtual. It is a record of the processing settings you made held in the database. LR never makes changes to the original files and does not create copies of original files (except on import if you so choose). A new file is created on export with the processing settings recorded in the database. The folder structure is irrelevant to LR other than LR needs to know where the file is on your computer.A virtual copy does not make an actual copy anywhere on your hard drive. It takes up no space as it is just a few lines of metadata recorded in the catalog. Hence virtual copy.
The point is that you may require several different versions of the same image file, different crops, different processing settings etc. These can all be recorded in the catalog and when you require the particular version you export it. On export it can be sent anywhere you like.
I would suggest you have a look at the LR manual through the help system (press F1 when LR is open) and have a look at some of the video tutorials in order to understand the basics of LR

  • Sending an edited copy via email without saving the original

I have acrobat 5 and when HR gets a application they scan it in as a pdf then they block out the SSN and they said they use to be able to click the email button and email that changed document with out saving it so that the original file still has the SSN in it. Now they are saying that it asks them to save the file first and by doing this it saves over the original. Is there a way to do this
    Andy

It is probably best that the HR folks put a bit of white tape over the SSN and then scan. They can then send the original scan and not deal with the rest. The technique they were using did not really get rid of the SSN anyway and that might be a legal issue as Geo indicates, depending on the distribution of the form. If they do the redax as Aandi suggests they can remove the SSN, but that is more work than the tape.

  • Trying to convert R3D to mov but have the converted file placed in the same folder as the source R3D file.

    Hay all :-)
Had a quick search and couldn't find an answer to this so asking the question :-)
It looks like i'm going to have to use Premier Pro to convert all my R3D files to mov because *Another Piece of Software ;-)* just doesn't recognise them :-/
I know i can import the R3D files into Premier and then export then as mov which is fine but the problem is in the export window theres no option to place the exported file into the same folder as the original R3D file, there is only the option of choosing a folder which, doesn't pre-designate itself to be the original files folder for some reason.
I have 100s of R3D files to convert to mov and having to find and choose the correct folder for each of them individually would be an incredible pain.
    Thx for any help :-)

Wow ... just checked through PrPro myself and queued out to AME, and even went into Prelude to try a transcode. You're right, you have to specify a location, or have one in the preset group ... but it has to be a specific one, there's no option for "original folder".
I'd suggest a wish be placed on this, as there's times I'd want to use it also.
