PSE9 crashing

PSE9 keeps crashing in while I am editing or saving.  Aplle ran diagnostics and it is not the computer.  Please advise.  Thanks!
Carol C dds

Quit the editor, then go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 settings
If you use 10.7 or higher, that library is hidden. To see it, click the Go menu in the Finder and hold down the Option key. It will appear below the little house for your user account. Also if on 10.7 or higher, while you're in there go to the Saved Application States folder and delete any pertaining to PSE.
Repair permissions and try again.

  • PSE9 crashes?

PSE9 crashes on average once a day. I've regularly filed the reports with the Adobe dialogue box that comes up afterward but haven't seen any sign of any answer to this issue. It happens after I've called up an image from RAW and I am doing an edit function in 16 bit. Any thoughts on why this might be happening? I'm on Mac OS X 10.5.8
      Thanks.

No, that's not it, then. Okay, try this. Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 settings
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 paths
any Adobe Camera Raw Prefs you have
    Repair permissions and try again.
Just FYI, your computer can use either 4 or 6 GB of ram (can't remember which off the top of my head), which is not expensive if you buy it from someplace like OWC (macsales.com).

  • PSE9 crashes when using editing tools

After over 10 hours on the phone with
    Adobe support and spending $200
+ for Ram and processor upgrades
they still can not find the reason PSE9 crash every time i use editing tools. Most often the Auto red eye and spot healing tool, but it will crash in organizer also.

Try resetting the PSE preferences by
       1. Close Elements.
       2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Edit.
       3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Try now and let me know your comments.
Also would be good if you can share your system info from Help->System Info in PSE.
    Thanks,
    Garry

  • Mac OSX Lion: PSE9 crashes while closing... every time.

    Hi,
Yesterday I've upgraded my PC to the latest OSX (10.7)
What  I can say - PSE9 runs notably faster but... every time I am closing it -  it crashes.
I have already sent the crash report (using PSE's build-in abnormal close autodetecion)
As for now I did not observed any side effects of this malfunction...

  • PSE9 crashing after startup

    Hi All,
So I just installed PSE9 (and pre9). It converted my catalog with around 30k pictures/videos in it. As instructed in the README I selected all the pictures and told it to remake the thumbnails. However, it crashed. And when ever I start it it crashes again after around a minute. The windows error report says it is in the cinemasteraudio.dll module at the time. While it starts it says "Generating Thumbnails" at the bottom. Is there way to stop it doing that to see if that is what is causing the problem? Or another way? I guess I'll be opening a support request when they get their system back online...
    Stephen.
    AppName: photoshopelementsorganizer.exe     AppVer: 9.0.0.0     ModName: cinemasteraudio.dll
    ModVer: 4.3.0.229     Offset: 00008ce6

    Stephen,
What is the extension of the AVCHD files present in your catalog?
    -Download GraphEdit from http://www.videohelp.com/tools/GraphEdit.
-Choose Download from mirror (direct link) on this page.
    -Save the zip file.
-Unzip it and run the GraphEdit.exe.
-Drop any AVCHD file from your catalog in the opened application.
A graph will be created.Take a print screen of the graph and attach it in your post.
    Also,
-Click 'Insert a filter into the graph' button in Graph Edit. (Screenshot1)
-Expand 'DirectShow Filters' category in the dialog opened. (Screenshot2)
-Browse upto the point where 'Mainconcept....' is not seen, expand the dialog and take a screenshot.(Screenshot3)
Please post this screenhshot also in your post.

PS: Running GraphEdit.exe will not harm or install anything on your system.

  • PSE9 Crashes Randomly

I have been working to create a photobook, however PSE keeps crashing. Sometimes when I am trying to save my work, sometimes when I am switching between the Elements view or Organizer, sometimes when I am trying bring a photo in, etc. The program disappears and I get a message telling me there was a problem and it had to unexpectedly quit.
I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and PSE9. Done all updates for the computer and for elements. I don't have any special plug-ins or anything like that for Elements either. I have tried deleting phlist, prefs, and done repair permissions. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, i have opened a new admin account and tried it in there. same issue.
Any suggestions of what is causing this?

The Organizer is new on the mac and very much still work in progress.
You might do better with one of the on-line photo book sites. One of the best I’ve come across is Blurb which lets you download an app to create your photo book quickly and easily.

  • PSE9 Constant Crashes on File Open

I am trying to edit approximately 250 Nikon NEF files and PSE9 crashes almost constantly.  I can try to open a file and PSE9 will just close.  Other times I can open a few files in the raw converter, one at a time, canceling out each file, and after 4 or 5 files PSE9 will just close.  Other times when I open a file, I get a "white screen of death"  and a message that PSE9 has stopped working.
I am running a quad core intel processor, 8 Gigs RAM, Vista w/the latest service packs.  No other programs are running.
I need to get this project done and will never finish it at this rate.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi,
The only other suggestion I could make, is to make sure you have the most upto date RAW import plugin. This can either be done via update in PSE9 or download it from adobe
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/883/cpsid_88395.html
The other thing you could always try is converting them to DNG which is the same as RAW in the fact it doe not process the image but is an open format. Adobe provide a free DNG converter on their site.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows&promoid=HT ENB
I only have 3gig on win 7 and can open more then 20 photos in the RAW editor with PSE9 before opening them in PSE9 for full editing.
Sorry could not be of any further help.
    Thanks

  • PSE9 - Catalog crashes since importing video files

I imported some video files to my catalog and now PSE9 Organiser crashes everytime I try to enter that catalog. I have created a new catalog as a test and imported photos to the catalog and Organiser works fine, but when i change catalogs the PSE9 crashes again. It appears to be due to a memory problem, which in itself is not an issue except that I want to open the catalog and remove the video files from it. As you may have guessed my last catalog backup was some time ago. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might go about accessing the catalog or removing the video files from the catalog, so I may access it?

    toddyc_nz wrote:
I moved the directories and renamed them to sbe sure. Unfortunately the catalog still crashes and won't open.
If you can open the Organizer from the newly created catalog, you can try to repair the corrupt catalog (repair anyway if it does not find any error). Do not check 'rebuild visual similarity index'.
By the way, I have found the this index is the file ItemData.mk4 in the catalog folder. You can delete this file, it will be rebuilt if you need it for ulterior searches by visual similarity. I really don't know if deleting will help, but this will do no harm.

  • Continuous crashing in PSE9 - any ideas?

    Hi
    I need help!
I have PSE9 and it keeps crashing. To make things worse, it won't reload after I shut it down, so I have to completely restart my computer every time it happens. I am restarting my computer five or six times a day in order to get my editing done! Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I have looked for updates and found nothing. Are there some plugins? It's not a RAM problem as I have a brand new computer and when I am running PSE9 I close all other programs to avoid the competing interests! I have also uninstalled and reinstalled to see if this fixes the problem, but to no avail. Am at my wits end!
    Teresa

    Hi Teresa,
There's nothing more frustrating than a crashing app. A couple questions come to mind: 1) you don't mention whether you have Windows or MAC. I'm running PSE9 on a Win 7 (Professional), 64-bit, 6GB RAM machine with no problems (note, I usually only Edit/Develop 1-3 images at a time). 2) Did this version of PSE9 run on another machine prior to the "new one"? 3) If no to #2, where did you get PSE9 from and are you rebuilding with the same PSE9 source? (Perhaps it's the source software?), 4) When it crashes, how many images are you Editing/Developing? 5) Even though you have a new computer, maybe you are running up against the computers limits. Here's a snapshot from my PC (found in PSE9 Help, System Info display): "Memory available to Photoshop: 3255 MB, Memory used by Photoshop: 60 %. You could take a look and see where your PSE9 is operating regarding memory usage. If it’s above 90% then you may experience crashes. 6) does PSE9 crash on the same activity each time, sharpening, color adjust, contrast adjust, etc.?
That's all the questions for now. I do have to note that I have apps suddenly become inactive and close on me unexpectedly. But, not even close to the extent you are indicating. I think it’s a Win 7 thing.
    Good luck,
    Lakeridge

  • PSE 9 crashes when I use the Spot Healing Brush tool

When I use the Spot Healing Brush tool PSE9 crashs completly. Is it a bug? In the older version 8 I had no problem.
I use WIN XP SP2, Intel Pentium 4, 3 Ghz, GPU: NVIDIA Geforce FX 5700, DirectX 9.0c 4.09.00.0904.
I tried it also on another PC with WIN7 and it caused the same problem.
    Thanks for any adivse

I know this post doesn't really help you guys, but I'm also using PSE9 on a Win7 Intel Quad Core Dell computer and the spot healing brush works fine. I only offer this post to indicate that it apparently is not a universal bug in PSE9. Perhaps an Adobe expert can jump in here and help. I can only offer that in Preferences I do have the RAM dialed up to 80%, but I don't think this is related to your problem.

  • PSE9 keeps crashing when working on a background layer

    Computer:
    Laptop HP DV6-3093CA
    I7 720QM
    6GB RAM
    640GB HDD
    WIndows 7 64Bits Ultimate
I have created a panorama picture in PSE8 on another laptop (sames specs except for the processor).
This is what I have done to create this crash:
    1. Open a 24.5Mb file (8 picts in a panorama)
    2. Duplicate layer (Ctrl-J)
    3. Enhance - Convert to Black-and-White, select Portraits
    4. Zoomed image
    5. Quick Selection Tool (select only the foreground persons)
    6. Backspace key then application crashes.
I have tried PSE9 out of the box then later updated it to the latest version but still crashed.
Bought this new laptop because I like to do panoramas and posters but this version of the app is not stable at all.

  • PSE9 keeps Crashing

I recently upgraded from PSE 6 to PSE 9. I have a very large catalog (250GB 67,000 files) and am running on XP with a Raid 1 config. Things ran well for awhile then PSE9 started to crash. So I recently converted to a brand new catalog and everything was runnning fine. However, now PSE9 keeps crashing. Sometimes I can't get it to even start-up. It crashes when I try to delete photos from my catalog. It crashes when I try to load photos to my catalog. And sometimes it just crashes when I'm viewing my catalog. No error messges. It just freezes. Any suggestions?

  • Imac crashes in pse9

My rather new imac (intel version with lion) crashes when i work in pse. It suddenly gives 3 long beeps and my screen freezes completely. I can restart easily by disconnecting power and the mac can work without problems for hours, even when i work in pse. Then it suddenly dies again. This kind of crash never happens in any other application, nor in internet. Apple's repair unit checked the computer thouroughly and found no problem. So it seems to be a bug in pse9.0. Perhaps i should update to elements 10, but i did not find a way to update.

    I will.

I would also make sure that applecare is aware that the problem wasn't solved, if you're still covered by that.

  • PSE9 Organizer crashes during playing of slide show

I've upgraded from PSE6 to PSE9. PSE9 reported no failures when converting my PSE6 catalog. When I open the organizer, all looks fine. If I go to full screen on a photo, then click play to run a slide show, the organizer works fine for a while, then stops.
I've attempted to get the assistance of Adobe support, but their responses have been worse than useless...some are comical. I've describe the situation to them thoroughly and sent the failure report data that Microsoft provides when a program stops working.
Does anyone here have any helpful suggestions on where I can go for help on this? Have you also had useless information from Adobe when asking for support?

There is a kb particle published by Adobe for the solution of this problem. Check it out at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406966.html and see if this resolves your problem.
