PSE9 Organiser question

I am having a problem with the order of thumbnails from downloaded images into PSE9 Organiser.
I take a RAW file plus a JPEG for each image. Up to now, in this and previous versions of the Organiser, images downloaded have shown both the RAW and JPEG for each image next to each other in the thumbnails, which I find convenient.
Recently, using the same camera and version of PSE, the thumbnails have been appearing with all the JPEGs in a group, followed by all the RAW files in a second group. With perhaps 100 or more photos in each batch I find this difficult. I have searched 'Preferences' and any other heading I can think of without finding a way of changing this back to how it was.
Can anyone help? - Thanks.

To save anyone wasting their time answering this, I think I have found the problem and it is not related to software.
Some time back I set the camera to automatic daylight saving time. The time clock duly altered the time by one hour, but continued to show the original time for the jpeg images, hence the separation of batches.

  • Thumbnails in PSE9 organiser on Mac

The thumbnails in organiser appear as egg timers when there is more than one on view. When the thumbnails first appear there is a message "generating thumbnails" at the bottom of the organiser window. Enlarging the thumbnail to one per page, slider to the right, the thumbnail egg timer size increases and then the image appears. Jpegs display fine and smaller size raw files also display correctly. The files in question are from a EOS7d. I run pse9 on a pc with no problem. Is ther a preference I've set that is causing this?

I've been adjusting the size of the thumbnails and have found that if I have five or less columns of thumbnails on the screen that they do display okay. As the screen on my pc(notebook) is relatively small I wouldn't have had more than five columns in the organiser and so wouldn't have seen the problem. Thanks Barbara for trying and I hope this posting assists someone else.

  • PSE9 Organiser gives runtime error

I am running PSE 9 trial version, have just done update 9.0.1 and now the organiser won't run, giving the error "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error"
I have applied the patch from MS, which has not helped, I have uninstalled and re-installed PSE9 and not done the upgrade but the error remains (although it wasn't there before I did the upgrade the first time around, so presumably uninstalling PSE9 did not uninstall its upgrade!)
BTW, Editor seems fine, although I haven't given it a full work out.
So, is this fixable or do I try Paint Shop?
    Cheers.
PSE Info file: is 4 pages long!
    Windows XP SP3
    MSVCP71.dll
    MSVCR71.dll

I've been chasing this for 8 months - first with PSE 8 and now with PSE 9, both on a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 machine.  One detail, mine appears in the Editor.  I can launch into the Organizer fine and print from there.  But if I attempt to do anything that invokes editor function I get the MS Visual C++ Runtime error.
After chasing it for  6 months in PSE 8 I decided to give 9 a try.  All was well for about 2 months to-the-day, then it started just like it did in PSE 8.
With PSE 8 a complete un-install including registry cleanup using several Adobe cleaner tools, a clean boot install would restore everything just fine, for about 2 months.  Then it would come back.  So I hoped the fix would be in 9.  I was wrong.
I am now at Level 2 support with Adobe Tech Support, and they aren't making any progress.  So far here is what has been done:
    1. Delete the preferences file.
    2. Install and run from a new User account.
    3. Run from a Clean Boot.
    4. Run in Safe mode
    5. Remove all files in the Windows/twain32 folder (FYI - twain32 is supposed to be dead in PSE 9 anyway).
    6. Run sfc/scannow from an Administrator prompt (no problems, 100% verification without any violation).
    7. Download and install latest Visual C++ Runtime Library from Microsoft (w/ SP1).
    8. Run again from a Clean Boot.
None of these have made any change.
My sense is that there is a file within the PSE suite that gets corrupted.  Furthermore, the program seems to be self corrupting, meaning that if you reinstall and get it back, it will eventually corrupt itself again.  Which file that is (there are so many) is anyone's guess.  Adobe tech support is basically clueless.
From my prior experience with PSE 8 on this machine I know I can remove, cleanup (not easy) and reinstall PSE 9 and be good for 4-12 weeks, then it will return.  If Adobe's support folks can't find the issue and resolve it, then I will quickly become a Corel customer-  been using PS products for over 10 years but both the problem and the Tech Support responses have been very disappointing.
So far going through Level 2 the support folks have used 4 days.  They have 3 more before I pull the plug on this behemoth POS!

  • Hard  Drives Organisation Question

    Hi-
I have 3 HDs in my Mac Pro (2 x 500GB and the 250GB OEM drive) plus an external LaCie FW 250GB.
I need to re-organise my setup to optimise performance, and am thinking the best way forward will be to use the OEM drive as boot drive, containing just System stuff and Apps. I'll use SuperDuper to back this drive up to the external drive.
Then I'll partition the two 500GB drives (probably 350GB and <150GB volumes) so I can use the larger partition for all my "Users" stuff and the smaller as PS Scratch Disk.
    My questions are:
    1. Does this arrangement make sense, in terms of what I've got now?
    2. Should I set the 2 x 500GB drives as a mirrored RAID, or just use something like ChronoSync to keep the "Users" files in sync? Pros and cons of each?
Any suggestions welcome (though I don't really want to buy any more drives this month) - thanks in advance
    Jim

I bought it from a local shop, sorry can't really give you a link. But its similar to the ones you get on ebay. Just so you know, the casing isn't the problem - like I said, I've tried it on other computers.
I know I can always buy a new casing, but I need Apple to know that the USB has its issues. I mean - a premium notebook like this should be able to handle everything shouldn't it?
I don't see why OS X should be a problem - I've tried the same casing with different hard disks. So its most definitely a hardware compatibilty issue - particularly considering that the situation HAS improved since the EFI upgrade.

  • Why is PSE9 organiser taking so long?

    Hi,
I'm new to Photoshop and have just installed and added my photo collection in the organiser.
But why does it take so long to start up and when I've been looking at a slide show and return to the organiser it takes ages before I can do anything! all i get is a spinning orb for about a 2 minutes... it's very frustrating.
Is there some setting I have wrong... I read somewhere to turn off all analysis which I have but it's made no difference... any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 with 8gb Ram and i3 processor.

The PSE organizer has become a bloated pig of a program. It's normally s slow as molassas on a Winter's day.
However, 10 or 12 thousand photos is not the problem. I don't know if the new SQLite database even has  limit on the number of photos it can manage. 32 GBs of images is actually a fairly small catalog.
PSCS 4 and above are 64 bit programs, so can  access the full amount of installed RAM as long as the OS is 64 bit also. I expect that you have 64 bit Windows 7, but it probably wouldn't have hurt to mention it.
That notwithstanding, I don't know if PSE 9 installs as an x86 program, (32 bit), or an x64 program, (64 bit). Running an x86 program, I'm not sure if the 4GB total memory address capability of a 32 bit OS can be exceeded. My point here is, although you may have 8 GB of installed RAM, you most likely can't utilize it running 32 bit programs.
In the Editor "Preferences" dialog box, under "Performance", you can set the amount of RAM PSE is allowed to use. While I think this only affects the editor, it will tell you how much RAM PSE thinks is available to it.
LittlePaleFace said....."Some of the older versions of the organiser could run quite slowly but I thought the later databases were more efficient".
They aren't! PSE-5 will import photos and generate thumbnails at a rate of 3 to 4 times the speed of PSE-7!

Click on the Album and hit the F11 key and you have an instant slideshow in full screen, including captions if desired".
Continuing on in the spirit of bringing the mountain to Mohammed, since most later motherboards have HDMI video outputs, it's quite easy to just slap an HDMI cable betwen your desktop and HiDef TV, and not bother "printing" the set of images to disk at all.
The Core i3 integrated graphics will drive dual monitors, but they suggest you drop the output resolution to 720p instead of full 1080p

  • PSE 6 organiser and PSE 9 editor

I do not want to use the pse9 organiser. I have pse6 and want to use the pse9 editor. Is there any way of making the pse6 organiser use the pse9 editor by using the edit tab in pse6? And will it work?

If you do as 99jon (goto tab "fix", more options, edit photos with external editor) and brouse to find the v9 editor .exe file it gives a message stopping its selection. That is why you have to create a copy to fool the program into thinking it is external. So all you do is create a copy in the same folder and rename it to something else.

  • PSE9 - Catalog crashes since importing video files

I imported some video files to my catalog and now PSE9 Organiser crashes everytime I try to enter that catalog. I have created a new catalog as a test and imported photos to the catalog and Organiser works fine, but when i change catalogs the PSE9 crashes again. It appears to be due to a memory problem, which in itself is not an issue except that I want to open the catalog and remove the video files from it. As you may have guessed my last catalog backup was some time ago. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might go about accessing the catalog or removing the video files from the catalog, so I may access it?

    toddyc_nz wrote:
I moved the directories and renamed them to sbe sure. Unfortunately the catalog still crashes and won't open.
If you can open the Organizer from the newly created catalog, you can try to repair the corrupt catalog (repair anyway if it does not find any error). Do not check 'rebuild visual similarity index'.
By the way, I have found the this index is the file ItemData.mk4 in the catalog folder. You can delete this file, it will be rebuilt if you need it for ulterior searches by visual similarity. I really don't know if deleting will help, but this will do no harm.

  • Reinstalled PSE9 and cannot load some PSE9 photos

About 6 months ago, I upgraded from PSE8 to PSE9. During the upgrade process, I converted all my PSE8 catalogs to PSE9 format. After the conversion, I have also added some new photos directly into PSE9, organised and tagged them. Each week, I rotuinely back up my hard drive, including all photos to an external hard drive (not via Adobe backup). Now I have reinstalled Windows 7 and have also reinstalled PSE9. When I tried to load the catalogs from my back-up hard drive, they could not be found, only the PSE8 catalogs. So I again converted these catalogs to PSE9 format, but could not find any of the photos I added in the past 6 months (or when I first converted from PSE8 to PSE9). The original photos exist, but they did not get included in the PSE9 catalog after reinstallation. How can I get these back? Do I now need to reload all the photos I have taken over the past 6 months and retag them all? Or is there a simpler way to get them back into PSE9 (tagged and organised)?

    Hi Ken,
Thank you for the reply, you pointed me in the right direction. Oddly I could not locate the *.pse9db file in my back-up drive (although all original photos were backed up) which explains why I cannot find those photos which I added after converting from PSE8 to PSE9. I will now re-tag those photos and make sure the *.pse9db Catalog file gets copied over to my back-up drive for future use. Many thanks!

  • Just upgraded to iPhoto 11 and have a major problem!

Can anyone assist me please. I have just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and once I loaded it and tried to organise my photo collection, the system informed me that my iPhoto needed to be upgraded to iPhoto 11.
I purchased the upgrade and when I loaded Adobe PSE9 'Organiser' I received an error message box which states that I have an
e-licenser Control Error. Specifically it states that 'Halion Sonic 1.x M6' has caused the following error:
elicenser(s) contains no valid license for this application.
It then gives me the following options:
         - For Trouble shooting options click 'Help'
         - Click <Licences> to view available licenses
         - Connect a valid eLicenser and click <retry>
         - Click <cancel> to abort.
I do have an elicense for Halion products that I use with Cubase 6. I am not sure why a software for my music studio should conflict with PSE9 and prevent the software from organising my photographs from iPhoto.
Even if I remove the Adobe software from my iMAC the iPhoto 11 upgrade will not load any of my photos that were originally on the system
Please can anyone offer me some advice as I have tried all of the above options without success.

    Your question is not clear
Can anyone assist me please. I have just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and once I loaded it and tried to organise my photo collection, the system informed me that my iPhoto needed to be upgraded to iPhoto 11.
How were you organizing your photo collection? You are aware that make any changes to the content or structure of the iPhoto library will corrupt your library and cause data loss
As to informing you that you needed to upgrade to iPhoto '11 - I do not believe that that ever happens - you may be notified that your library has been upgraded and you need an upgrade - this can be caused by library corruption (like moving or modifying files within the iPhoto library using the finder or a program other than iPhoto) - I'm not clear but it could possibly be related to your organizing your photos
You then go into s discussion of PSE9, Halion and Cubase 6 - all not Apple products and not iPhoto related - hat questions would best be addressed in the support forums for those products
Even if I remove the Adobe software from my iMAC the iPhoto 11 upgrade will not load any of my photos that were originally on the system
this depends on exactly what you did to "organize" your photos - I'm guessing that you have destroyed your iPhoto library and will have to start over but need more information to be sure
Do you have a backup of your iPhoto library from just before you "organized" your photos?

  • Cannot add media to Share upload listing

I just installed PSE9 to my win7 Pro 64 bit Dell laptop.  One of the biggest reasons for upgrading was to use the Facebook sharing feature. however it won't work for me.  Same applies to the Flickr module. When I select one or more files then click the share to Facebook button, the upload requester opens ok and the message "Processing files" appears briefly.  No files appear on the dark gray area above the green plus sign.  If I select files from the thumb listing then click "add media" the files are deselected but not added to the listing and the upload button remains greyed out.  I have hunted everywhere for a mention of this problem to no avail.  I uninstalled completely and reinstalled from the root of the C drive as suggested somewhere but it has made no difference.  Anyone else had trouble like this?  Ron.

Further to my issue: today I installed PSE9 on my work computer running WinXP SP3 and had no trouble adding thumbnails to the upload requester so it appears that Win7 Pro 64 bit compatibility is not up to scratch for the Sharing feature in PSE9 organiser.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 keeps hanging my computer

    Hi
I have a problem in  that my computer keeps "hanging" when I run PE9.
I have successfully run PE7 for a couple of years without any problems and have recently downloaded and installed a trial version of PSE9. My computer keeps hanging when I use the Organizer function of PSE9. It doesn't seem to be related to any particular activity - the system could for example be working on regenerating thumbnails.....or sitting there idle. The only thing to do when it hangs is to hit the power key and turn the computer off - shift>alt>del has  no effect. Time duration is between 5 and 15 minutes for the computer to hang after starting PSE9.
    Actions already taken to try to reslove;
    - It would appear that switiching the computer off caused a catalog corruption where the PSE9 organiser would not start. Help was kindly provided in another post to reolve this (at least PSE9 now works).
    - Photoshop and Premier Elements 7 have been removed completely
    - PSE9 has be removed and reinstalled
    - Register has been cleaned and compacted
PSE9 catalog has been repaired and compacted
    Help appreciated please
    Graham

    Hey Graham,
Check whether auto-analyzer is running on your machine or not. If it is running, then turn it off. Can you feel the performance improve after turning it off?
    Do let me know.
    Thanks.

  • PSE 9 Organizer and Camera Raw

I've just updated to PSE 9 from PSE8. What I liked with PSE 8 was selecting a Canon CR2 raw file in Browser CS4, the camera raw window would open where a number of key items could be modified before selecting Open and full editing in PSE 8.
Is there a way to select a raw file in PSE9 Organiser and have the Camera raw window open?
I went under Help/Updates and Camera Raw 6.3 was 'installed', but is there is no option (that I can see) to use Camera Raw prior to PSE9.
    Can anyone assist?
    With thanks - dfielder7

    Many thanks for the assistance.
I'm starting to believe CS4 browser is much better than Organiser - at least for the Mac. There are several key components that appear to be lacking in Organiser, but many that's because it was designed for a different purpose.

  • Questions regarding creation of vendor in different purchase organisation

    Hi abap gurus .
i have few questions regarding data transfers .
    1) while creating vendor , vendor is specific to company code and vendor can be present in different purchasing organisations within the same company code if the purchasing organisation is present at plant level .my client has vendor in different purchasing org. how the handle the above situatuion .
    2) i had few error records while uploading MM01 , how to download error records , i was using lsmw with predefined programmes .
    3) For few applications there are no predefined programmes , no i will have to chose either predefined BAPI or IDOCS . which is better to go with . i found that BAPI and IDOCS have same predefined structures , so what is the difference between both of them  .

    Hi,
    1. Create a BDC program with Pur orgn as a Parameter on the selection screen
so run the same BDC program for different Put organisations so that the vendors
are created in different Pur orgns.
    2. Check the Action Log in LSMW and see
    3.see the doc
BAPI - BAPIs (Business Application Programming Interfaces) are the standard SAP interfaces. They play an important role in the technical integration and in the exchange of business data between SAP components, and between SAP and non-SAP components. BAPIs enable you to integrate these components and are therefore an important part of developing integration scenarios where multiple components are connected to each other, either on a local network or on the Internet.
BAPIs allow integration at the business level, not the technical level. This provides for greater stability of the linkage and independence from the underlying communication technology.
LSMW- No ABAP effort are required for the SAP data migration. However, effort are required to map the data into the structure according to the pre-determined format as specified by the pre-written ABAP upload program of the LSMW.
The Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW) is a tool recommended by SAP that you can use to transfer data once only or periodically from legacy systems into an R/3 System.
More and more medium-sized firms are implementing SAP solutions, and many of them have their legacy data in desktop programs. In this case, the data is exported in a format that can be read by PC spreadsheet systems. As a result, the data transfer is mere child's play: Simply enter the field names in the first line of the table, and the LSM Workbench's import routine automatically generates the input file for your conversion program.
The LSM Workbench lets you check the data for migration against the current settings of your customizing. The check is performed after the data migration, but before the update in your database.
So although it was designed for uploading of legacy data it is not restricted to this use.
We use it for mass changes, i.e. uploading new/replacement data and it is great, but there are limits on its functionality, depending on the complexity of the transaction you are trying to replicate.
The SAP transaction code is 'LSMW' for SAP version 4.6x.
Check your procedure using this Links.

  • Question re syncing between PSE9 and online library

I'm using PSE9 under Win7. Don't ask me how, but my hard drive and library at photoshop.com/tools/organizer are out of sync, with photos on the web site that are gone from my hard drive. I need them back. I stopped syncing when I discovered this. My question: if I restart syncing, will I lose from the web library the photos that are missing on my hard drive, or will those photos be deleted from the web library?
If they'll be deleted from the library as well, can you tell me how I can rescue my pix?

You will need to authorize the new computer in itunes.
Then, I would follow [these instructions|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2297208]
    Hope that helps.

  • Another Iphoto '11 and PSE9 Questions

I'm running the latest version of iphoto '11.   Just installed PSE9 and all of the updates.
I've made PSE9 the external editor in iphoto.
In the PSE9 prefs, I set:
    - the color picker to apple's
    - set on first save to save over current file
When I want to edit a JPEG file in iphoto, I select the file, and click on the edit button in the bottom corner. Iphoto duplicates it (that is fine) and the picture comes up in PSE9.  I edit it (draw a big snowflake on it), and then select File -> Save.  (Not save as).  A save dialog pops up.
QUESTION 1) I thought the save dialog should NOT pop up?  Help?
QUESTION 2) In the same dialog, the format is set to photoshop.   If I click save, the changes don't show up in iphoto.  Make sense-- it is in photoshop format. Should I have to manually select JPEG everytime?  It doesn't auto select it?
If I change it to jpeg and click save, and then click ok on the jpeg option window, the file saves and I see the changes in iphoto.
In iphoto, if I now select the modified photo and select edit, it doesn't make a duplicate first.  I guess it knows not to?
I edit the photo in PSE9 again (add another snow flake) and select file -> save. The save dialog pops up again and photoshop format is selected.  If I select JPEG, the name now changes from IMG13_3.jpg to IMG13_3 copy.jpg.
Question 3)  If I save it, it is a new file, and the changes don't show up in iphoto.  Is this expected?  I have to manually change the file name?
This doesn't seem all that efficient and could be stream lined...
    Thanks

This may be preaching to the choir but here goes:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in iPhoto". That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.
This way you get the best of both worlds.
    Happy Holidays
