Pseudo Surround Sound on iTunes?

ok, I have a logitech 5.1 speaker system connected to my macbook. When I play songs it just comes out of the front two speakers and the center speaker. I want to know how or if i can get the music to come out of the back two speakers with out buying some other product. I know that files in .ac3 format can play surround sound but i don't think it is possible to convert an MP3 to an AC-3. Please let me know if have any solution to my problem i have been trying for hours to figure out if its possible. THANKS

I am having the same problem - i have a creative Soundblaster XFi Titanium Sound card and every game i have works brilliantly with it as well as Windows Media Center and  but iTunes screws up and gives me no sound at all if i choose souround option in the video audio track selector. I know my videos i brought on itunes have 5.1 because i have been playing them through my apple TV to get the surround and it works fine. so it is not a problem with the computer, the soundcard, the OS (although it is 64 bit) or the file but with iTunes or Quicktime. I have gone into the control panel>Quicktime and chosen the correct suround settings (direct sound, 24bit(the same as my card accepts), 44.1 (once again the soundcard spec), safe mode off(tried having this on - did not work either), 5.1 suround) but this only happens when i select suround, when i play stereo and use the sound card to fill it has no problem (except that is not surround sound for movies).

    Did some tests...
If I change the default audio device to the integrated audio device in the mainboard I get the same. Changing the bitrate in itunes or in the windows settings does not help either...
    Anyone has a similar problem?

  • How to get Surround Sound to work With Itunes 7 and Stop Skipping

A common problem for surround sound with itunes 7 appears to come from Creative sound cards. The way to fix this problem is to right click on the volume icon in the taskbar and open the EAX Console. Open the CMSS 3D tab and check the box that says Enable CMSS 3D and set both CMSS and CMSS2 to 0% in the stereo focus slider. It should work. Remember to have the volume slider in itunes at 100%.
If that doesn't work then open the quicktime preferences in the controlpanel/quicktime. Then go to the audio tab, uncheck the safe mode box. Set the rate to 64 kHz and the size to 16 bit. Then set the channels to 5.1
This should all make it work, after hours of struggling i've found these successful settings and am loving it!
For those of you who have sound skipping during transitions----
Go to the preferences of Itunes and go to the Playback tab, disable the crossfading between songs and you should play skip free!!!!

  • ITunes Fake Surround Sound

Hi everyone, I would love to know how to set up fake surround sound for iTunes music (by fake I mean using the same audio input for the front channels on the rear speakers in a 5.1 setup).
I have 5.1 setup in my room and I would love to take advantage of the back speakers, especially when I watch movies and listen to music in iTunes.
I usually achieve this affect by using a built in Matrix function on my cheaper LG speakers but the new surround sound doesn't have this option sadly.
    Any help would be nice!

    Thanks for your reply Dave.
I had suspected that this was the case. I've been exprimenting with iTunes and haven't even been able to receive a stereo AAC stream. AAC and AAC+ only seem to be supported for files and not internet streams.
If anyone disagrees, please feel free to correct me.
Does anyone know if there are plans to support AAC and AAC+ in internet streams? ..and in particular for surround sound broadcasts?
    Best regards,
    Daren.

  • How can I get surround sound to work?

I have a new TouchSmart 520z.  I believe it has an integrated soundcard.  When I purchased it I was told that surround sound speakers would work.  I purchased the Logitech 5.1 speaker system.  I don't have any color coded RCA receptacles on the system.  I have a mic and earphone receptacle on the left side and a sub and another receptacle just below it with a design on the rear that I am not sure of.  I placed the green RCA plug in the bottom receptacle on the back and get sound out of the two front speakers and subwoofer.  Don't know where to plug in the center and rear speaker plugs.  I have a feeling that this system does not support surround sound.  I configured my settings to surround sound 5.1.  Need some help.  Thanks.

  • How do I get 5.1 sound from iTunes on my computer connected to Bose T20?

I have my computer connected to a Bose T20 with an HDMI cable. I can get surround sound with movies, but not with iTunes. I only get stereo instead of 5.1.
I also have Apple TV connected to Bose and can get surround sound from iTunes when piped through Apple TV. Bose has told me to check the sound settings on my computer which I have done. The sound settings have 5.1 enabled.

    Hi mikefrompoland,
For more information about 5.1 Surround Sound in iTunes, you may find the following article helpful (it is primarily aimed at Mac users, but the settings in Windows should be similar):

  • How do i get my 5.1 surround sound to work on the newest version of itunes?

I have tried to reinstall itunes. I have tried putting it into safe mode, and my surround sound works with all other applications. Is this a fixable problem or do we have to wait until itunes figures this out.

Normally, you just put the optical cable in and your Mac automatically switches to optical out. Try putting the cable out. Start iTunes or something and play a song. Put the optical cable inside. Now your system should be playing the sound. To check if digital out really is on, try to use the "louder" button on your keyboard. You shouldn't be able to change the volume using your keyboard using digital out.

  • Using ATV2/3 with non-HDMI Receiver and theater projector and also need iTunes downloaded movies to work.   I'm thinking to use the Toslink digital out for surround sound and an HDMI to RGB converter for video but not sure the iTunes DRM will prevent?

I have a theater with a Runco projector but non HDMI. alas, my receiver is non HDMI. Changing electronics and projector is a non-starter.
I would like to be able to buy HD movies on iTunes and watch them by streaming via Apple TV3. My plan is to capture surround sound from the TosLink digital out, which my preamp/receiver can handle. For the video, I need to convert the HDMI to RGB component to feed my receiver.
This is where iTunes DRM and HDCP issues might arise. I am under the impression that I need an non-HDMI compliant converter so that ATV3 can even talk to my receiver. It is my understanding that this is possible and takes care of the HDCP issue. But what about the DRM issue? All I want to do is buy and watch HD movies, no bad intentions. I find it incredible that iit might not be possible.
Anyways, is there a 100% certain approach even if it costs up to $300-400. Again, changing hardware is a non-starter so please avoid the obvious "buy an HDMI amp and projector".
    Thanks

  • No Surround Sound for TV shows purchaced on iTunes

When I hook up my PowerBook to my surround sound system, I can't get TV shows and movies downloaded from iTunes to play in surround sound, only mono from the center speaker. All other downloaded or mounted video media, (i.e. avi, or mp4, or DVD files) work great. I can also get surround of my iTunes music via airport streaming so I don't think it is the computer. Just iTunes files don't work. Does anyone have this problem or have a solution?
    Thanks.

  • ITunes 11.3 no longer plays AC-3 surround sound / audio.

I run iTunes in Windows, and upon updating to 11.3, the surround sound option (AC-3) no longer plays audio. Stereo works fine, but no surround sound plays at all. It worked in 11.2, but when upgrading to 11.3 it no longer works.
Possibly related: even in 11.2 it would work "inconsistently", meaning sometimes I would select the surround option and iTunes would either freeze or the sound would not play. 11.3 it won't work at all
    Help?

I have had this same issue, and my problems started about the same time (three weeks ago). When I started experiencing the program I updated to the latest version of QuickTIme, but it has not helped the problem. Seems I have no audio on MPEG1 files. I can open them in iTunes and they play fine. QuickTime doesn't even show that there's an audio file when I look up movie properties. GeneLC65, have you found any solutions yet?
Oh, also the audio files embedded in Director presentation files are broken. Anyone got a clue on this?

  • ITunes and surround sound internet streams

    Hi all,

  • I have surround sound with my LCD TV.  Will my new iPad into an HDML connection be able transmit surround sound via Utube, iTunes or whatever?

I have surround sound with my LCD TV.  Will my new iPad into HDML connection and Utube, iTunes etc. produce surround sound?

ATV definitely supports AC3 DD 5.1... etc, but definately not through AirPlay, only streamed through the inet.
I also found, in the case of Netflix, that the AC3 is preserved in the highest bandwidth mode but not available in the lowest. (frankly i did not test the intermediate bandwidth)
I was quite pleased with the sound and picture from Netflix.
I am not so patiently waiting for AirPlay to support AC3 DD or DDPlus because I record my home video in %.1 surround (AVCHD) and can preserve it through Final Cut Pro and DVD or Red Laser, but cannot use the intended cable replacement (AirPlay) to play them.
    Bummer..
I think/hope if more people request surround sound via AirPlay Apple may then follow through on this otherwise good idea.

  • Having trouble using my 5.1 surround sound speaker system and can't configure itunes to use it

With my Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 I am listening to music with itunes and i have 5 speakers total with a subwoofer, the configuration is two front, one center, two rear, and a subwoofer. The front , center and subwoofer are fine but the rear pair speakers do not have any playback with them. I am wondering if you don't mind helping me troubleshoot this problem.
Thank you have a nice day

Well I'm not using Vista I'm using XP SP2 and I have the same problem.
On the windows sound control panel there is a button called speaker volume. when you click on it you get a bunch of sliders with channels -8. Ive discovered that if I move the master sound control in any of the Creative Sound modes software Entertainment/Audio Creation or Gaming the channel sliders in the windows control panel numbered 3-7 all go to zero which stops the surround sound working. It leaves channels and 2 and 8 alone which can be changed with the sound control in the creative software.
Even checking move all the slides together option on the windows control panel is cancelled as soon as I twitch the main sound control. It's driving me nuts. I keep thinking I must be missing something really obvious here but alas I can't think what.
Ive tried lots of different solutions to no avail. Interestingly when I tried to use the autodriver update thing on the creative web site it said that i am using Vista and you'll have to download manually. Which I did and still didnt resolve my problem.
Sorry no solutions just more problems lets hope someone can help!
Edit - Just discovered - I have XFi Pro if I use the I/O Console volume dial it works fine, but if I use the software volume control it all goes wrong. Think I posted in the wrong thread as well as this is vista but it just seemed so relevant.

  • 5.1 Surround sound not working in iTunes any suggestions?

My 5.1 surround sound will not work with iTunes it only plays out of the front left and front right speaker. In other programs it runs fine any suggestions on how to make it work in iTunes?

All my players (WMP, Realplayer, AvRack) play 5.1 surround except iTunes.
I've tried the Quicktime Pro adjustments as posted. No luck.
    Does Apple post here?
From all the surround ?'s, it seems the player won't do surround anymore?
    thanks,
