PSF file

I've just downloaded the trial version of Photoshop Elements 13 and I tried to open a .psf file but was unable. Can anybody help me open the old files.

I saved these files about 4 years ago and have since completely reloaded windows 7 about 12 months ago on the desktop PC. I now need these files which are saved as .psf files and when I doubled clicked on one of them it opened Elements 6, which I was also using at the time, but it came up with "Cannot Open"(name of file) .psf because it is the wrong type of file. I also downloaded Elements 13 trial version to see if that might work, but the same message came up. I am not a computer whiz so I need help to either change the file format or open them some how

PSF is also an extension for color proof preset/ files in Photoshop.
However, Photo Studio's PSF files may be opened in Photoshop if you change the extension to .JPG. However, you may be unable to use editing capabilities of the file.
Do you have a Canon software where Arcsoft's Photostudio came bundled?

  • Psf (ProRes 422 HQ) import/interpret in Premiere CS6

    Hello...
I recorded with an AJA KiPro Mini through a Sony FS-100 over HDMI.
It didn't work out the way I wanted, because the KiPro wasn't set to work with the FS-100 in a way.
So I recorded Quicktime-files in ProRes 422 (HQ) with Progressive Segmented Frames (because that was the only setup that worked).
The problem is now that Adobe Premiere CS6 doesn't seem to interpret the footage the way it should: it looks interlaced.
As far as I know all "Interpret Footage" options look the way they should:
"Field order | Use Field Order from File: No Fields (Progressive Scan)"
And whatever I change at "Conform to" - it doesn't help.
So I wonder if Premiere cannot handle psf-Import?
Only found people who wanted to export psf-files but not import them.
    Does anyone have a clue?
    Thanks alot,
    Max
btw: Allan Tépper wrote some nice instructions/informations to handle psf-files but unfortunately it didn't work in my case. And the software (ClipWrap) he suggests doesn't work with mov-files.
    http://provideocoalition.com/atepper/story/psf8217s_missing_workflow_em_part_1_benign_psf_ versus_malignant_psf/

The camera was set to record 1080p50.
But as far as I know it doesn't make any difference for the KiPro what your shooting format is.
So beside the psf-mov-files I have the avchd-files in 1080p50 now.
It was meant to be the backup but as a matter of these psf-problems I work with avchd right now. They look better than the not right interpretated psf-files. As long as I do not make to much color corrections I guess.

  • AVCHD: benign PsF and malignant PsF

I hope this helps someone. I'm re-posting this from a thread I orginally began at a Creative Cow forum. The links are worth a read if you are using AVCHD especially from a recent Canon camcorder (it appears that the files from the Canon DSLRs are genuine 30p and don't have this issue). I shoot with the Canon Vixia HF S100.
    =============================================================================
"I spent what may have been too much time last night researching this, but here's what I came up with:
Writer Allan Tépper has a series of articles on just this issue and it's essentially new info as of the last month or so.
    In part 1 here,
    http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/atepper/story/psf8217s_missing_workf...
...he defines two new terms, benign PsF and malignant PsF. It appears that most of the Canon prosumer video camcorders like my Vixia HF S100 create the "malignant" type PsF file. In a nutshell, the camera creates a progressive file, but mis-tags it so that even the most recent versions of PP 5.5 and FCP X mistake it as an interlaced file. Here's more from Allan on this:
    http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/atepper/story/empsf8217s_missing_wor...
    http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/atepper/story/psf8217s_missing_workf...
It's explained that this file must be modified slightly so that the editing program can correctly identify the file as progressive. Otherwise, FCP X will try to de-interlace a file that doesn't need to be de-interlaced and will ultimately result in unwanted artifacts and lack of sharpness.
At this point, there appears to be two solutions:
    http://www.rassoc.com/gregr/weblog/2011/12/02/editing-canon-30p-pf30-footag...
Solution 1 for Canon PF30 - Malignant PsF- Simply import into FCPX twice:
-Use Import From Camera to import your footage into Event 1.
-Then, use Import Files, and import the files in Final Cut Events / Event1 / Original Media – and put them into a new Event 2.
Solution 2 for Canon PF30 - Malignant PsF- Use ClipWrap to pre-wrap the .MTS files and FCP X will recognize them as Progressive.
    http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/atepper/story/psf8217s_missing_workf...
    http://www.divergentmedia.com/blog/fullpost/announcing_clipwrap_244_update
I will likely go with the ClipWrap solution as the free solution is just too many hoops for me to jump through to get work done. Once I've gotten the PF30 file correctly tagged as progressive, I will set up my new Project as 1280x720 HD, 29.97p and get to editing."
    ================================================================================ ===========
I did end up buying the full version of ClipWrap yesterday and have started to re-wrap my files with the .MOV extension and it not only solves the PsF issue, but now allows me preview the files in QT 7, toss the not-needed files, and then re-name the needed files before importing into FCP X (which ultimately works better for my brain and workflow). Also, no more artifacts from my FCPX mis-interpreted 29.97p files. I have never been a big fan of the Camera Archive mess, so this also allows me to file away all my footage in a more understandable manner without having to first open FCP X.

    Tom Wolsky wrote:
Rather than double importing why don't you just change the field dominance of the imported clips in the event.
    Tom,
I didn't test it myself, but according to the 2 different article sources, it doesn't work correctly:
"When I was trying to find the difference between the first and second import, I noticed the second had the Field Dominance Override set to “Progressive”. Aha, I thought…one could simply change this setting on the original first-import footage, and it will be interpreted as 29.97p. And at first glance, it appears to work. However, if you take this footage and put it in a 29.97p timeline, it will have to render, and this should be unnecessary. Just using a second import step eliminates this problem."
    http://www.rassoc.com/gregr/weblog/2011/12/02/editing-canon-30p-pf30-footage-in- fcpx/
I did try the double import method, but it was too much of a pain to plan to do for every file I need to use, so I ended up going the ClipWrap route. Although, Rafael Amador did bring up the same point about changing the field dominance at the CC FCPX Techniques forum. I would have rather not spent the extra money, but I'm glad I did for the improved quality and ease of filing original media.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • How to apply an adjustment, make edits, then delete the adjustment (but keep the edits)?

I've got a photo that was shot at a crooked angle which I tried correcting using the Straighten tool in CS5 Extended but the straightened version crops out far too much of the image for my liking.  So I manually rotated and cropped the photo so that it's straight and still includes what I want it to but of course I was left with large white spaces on all four corners of the photo.  After a lot of work I was able to fill in all the white spaces manually using the clone stamp and it looks fine the way it is now on my monitor but when the image is lightened even slightly many obvious cloning flaws begin to show and I'm afraid that people with monitors that display the image lighter will be able to see the obvious cloning work I did.
So what I'd like to do is apply a layer or mask or filter that uses the Shadows/Highlights feature to lighten the image enough to expose everything and then use that lightened over-exposed version to make the necessary fixes with the clone stamp tool and fix all the flaws that show when the image is lighter -- then, after having fixed the cloning flaws, I'd like to get rid of the Shadows/Highlights layer/mask/filter so that the photo goes back to its original exposure, except this time with the flaws fixed.  I'm still fairly new to CS5 and I haven't found a way to do this yet.  So far every time I apply Shadows/Highlights using a layer or filter I either can't do the cloning work on the lightened image or I can but then it won't let me get rid of the Shadows/Highlights after the cloning work is done.
Is there any way around this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Try using the new Edit - Fill - Content Aware feature to fill corners exposed by the rotation.  Select first, taking a few pixels of the image as well in the selection, then try the fill.  You may need to touch things up a bit after, but I'm betting it will get you there more quickly than with manual cloning.
I tried this but unfortunately kept getting the error: "Could not fill because there's not enough data to fill it in a Content-Aware manner."
My solution is a custom bright color profile that I toggle with Ctrl + Y which is a shortcut for Color Proofing.
    Here's how to do it.
Edit > Color Settings (Shift + Ctrl + K). In the Working Spaces section, using the RGB menu, scroll up and choose Custom RGB...
For the name type myBrightRGB , change the Gamma to 0.75, and press OK
From the same RGB menu, scroll up and choose Save RGB...  and save the profile in this location C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color
Click the Cancel button in the Color Settings
With an image open, go to View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB, then View > Proof Setup > Custom...  and from Device to Simulate menu choose myBrightRGB profile and press OK.
From now on toggle the Color Proof with Ctrl + Y to edit your image in the prefered color space.
This is also a perfect solution for checking how images will look on overbright miscalibrated displays.
Sounds like a great solution, however after following all those steps I'm not seeing an option for "myBrightRGB" anywhere in the drop down menu next to Device to Simulate.  I tried restarting Photoshop, still not there.  I did notice that in the C:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\color folder that "myBrightRGB.csf" was the only csf file in there -- all the rest of the files in that folder are ICC files.  Not sure if that makes a difference as far as this is concerned.  When I go to View > Proof Setup > Custom, the Customize Proof Condition window has an option to "Load..." and I tried selecting the myBrightRGB file that way but it'll only load .PSF files.  Is there something I'm missing?

  • Adobe Reader won't start automatically

I've downloaded Adobe Reader to my Windows8 system,, but when I try to open a pdf file fom on-line it asks me which App I want to use, but Reader isn't listed as a choice.  When I clik look for other Apps on computer, I can't find Reader anywhere (not in programs, documents, etc).  It will not start automatically.  The only way I can't make it work is by Saving the pdf file, then going to my graphic start page and cliking the Adobe reader icon which has been there (and only there) since it was downloaded.  It's really time consuming and I have a lot of psf files I have to go back and delte from my downloads

the App version self-loaded and it worked initially whenever I tried to open a pdf file, but this is a new touchscreen Acer and I'm used to having actual programs, not Apps and I don't quite understand it yet...Of course like everything else with Windows 8, most thing don't work the way they used to  after you do any updates.   I'd love to go back to Windows 7, or even XP.  I got this for Christmas and so far (according to it's own software program), it's shut down a total of 418 times, the majority of causes had to do with Explorer.

  • Soft Proof Default Location

    Photoshop CS3, Mac OS 10.5.2
After I create a custom soft proof I would like it show up in the "View" drop down. Where is the "default" location to save custom soft proofs so that they show up in the drop down menu?
    Thanks

When you save a custom proof condition, the .psf file is saved in user/library/application support/adobe/color/proofing. To view using that soft proof, go to View > Proof Setup, and the file you just saved will be at the bottom of that sub-menu.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can only see emails no later than two weeks old! HELP!

Hello there. We use Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010 and I am having an issue with one user. She called yesterday to tell us that she was looking at her inbox and she noticed that she couldn't see any email after two weeks old. This user uses two different
computers, one at her desk and then one at the front secretary desk where she sits about 2 days a week.
I then checked to see if she had any filters on, even started outlook.exe /cleanviews, /cleanrules, and /safe and still couldn't see past two weeks. I then checked to see if cache mode was checked and it was not on either computer. Checked her deleted
folder and there was nothing in there but then did a restore and there was tons of stuff in there, so I restored it all because she said that it looked like it was the stuff but I don't think it was. Anyways, the restore didn't work and there are still only
two weeks of emails in her inbox. She's one of the few people here that go through all her emails and delete a lot of them and put some in folders that she really needs to keep.
I then checked around the other folders that she has and there were emails from way back, even going back years. Just to make sure, I enabled her OWA access and signed into her account on there and it had the same stuff that her outlook has so I don't think
    it's application related.
I'm wondering if there is anything else that I can check that could be causing this issue. I would be very appreciative for any help that can be offered.
If you have any questions for me please let me know.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
You cannot see the missing emails from OWA, right?
Have you checked if the emails were archived to a psf-file? You can also check the AutoArchive setting by right-clicking on Inbox and selecting Properties, then click
AutoArchive tab. Check if you set the "Clean out items older than" option to "2 weeks".
If so, you can try to open the PST file from File > Open > Open Outlook Data File. By default, the archive PST file is stored under: C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Outlook Files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does hitting the Single Field checkbox in QT remove lines from my video?

Hi, when reviewing my HD video's I see annoying lines. However I went into the video track and hit the Single Field checkbox and they went away. The deinterlace checkbox did absolutely nothing however. Does this simply mean the footage is progressive but quicktime was just reading it wrong initially?
Very intereseted in knowing the answer.
    All the best
    Kevin

Ok, maybe you can help me. I was sold some software that was meant to output progressive files in the AVI container with the MJPEG codec. I told him the software seems to be outputting interlaced files and this was his reasoning. Is he correct or is he taking me for a ride? This is a little beyond my knowledge of video systems so if anyone and help me please do.
They are Progressive Segmented Frames (PsF). This means they are progressive frames but with their information spread across two fields of an interlaced frame. Remember, interlacing is something added to the output of video to facilitate display requirements; it doesn't exist inside your PC. Odd, yes, but this is handy because if you had a true native progressive feed and tried to watch it on a display monitor that only supported interlaced input, you would not get an image. Also, PsF streams allow you to effectively use an interlaced camera to create progressive frames because, again, in a PC or MAC, there is no such thing as interlacing and during capture of each film frame, nothing moves between fields. Everything ends up progressive though carried on interlaced fields.
Forget film for a moment: Even when you shoot live video with an interlaced camera, the two successive fields for each frame are ALWAYS handled as one progressive frame inside your NLE, which usually displays only one of the fields during editing while the other field just goes along for the ride unseen. When you output the file or watch it on an external video monitor, the frames are then again broken up into fields to facilitate ease of playback on a variety of displays. If you were to deinterlace that video footage on your NLE, it would drop one field and use the remaining field to artificially create the missing field information to create one progressive frame. However, the output file would then be a PsF file because, even though the frames are now progressive, they are still being carried by an interlaced medium.
Likewise, when you use your progressive camera to create a live image, believe it or not, the video output is a PsF stream. That means the progressive frames are carried in two successive fields. The PC or Mac doesn't care that the information for each progressive frame arrives in two parts because, as mentioned earlier, the two parts are handled as one frame inside the NLE during editing.

  • Check attachments before sending?

How can I check the PSD files I have attached to an email are the correct ones before I send it?
After attaching PSD files they don't show up in the email... though they are there as I can save draft and then see a list of attachments.
Other files .doc, .txt etc are ok.

You can't, unless you want to go back and open them again in Photoshop. When you attach a document, you should know whether or not the ones you choose are correct, otherwise there would be no point for you to attach them. So why second-guess everything you do?
PSF files may not render in the message window, but that doesn't mean they're not attached.
