Pshop CS2 Mac: How do I keep effects after flattening layers?

Macintosh Tiger: PHOTOSHOP CS2
When I apply layer effects features, especially emboss (on type) and patterns, they look great.
Then when I flatten the layer (either merging or flattening the whole file), the effects are substantially diminished.
Sometimes it doesn't even look embossed.
This is immediately evident on the screen as soon as I flatten, and also in printing out on a fairly hi-res printer.
How do I maintain the effects?

with your sage counsel, I think I've grokked enough to run experiments
based on your suggestions and solve the problem.
I'll continue to test for maintaining the effects in print, which is
my goal—as soon as this week's deadlines are done!
In the meantime, a quick test shows the effects are crisp and strong
at 100%, even after flattening (or merging just a few layers with the
effects layer).
I'll create smaller dimensions of the file for on-screen viewing,
which seems to be the key: you have to be able to see the image at
100%.

Hard drive failing, need new Mac, how can I keep iTunes 10.7

I've got a mini mac, ca. 2009. The hard drive has begun to fail, and the external monitor is also beginning to go (once all-black screens is now mostly pale grey.
I have 75,000 songs on an external drive. I tried iTunes 11 when it came out, and had to roll back to 10.7 because iTunes 11 is simply not capable of managing a large library. Lack of multiple screens alone is enough to drive me away.
When I asked at the Apple store if there is any way to keep iTunes 10, they laughed in my face, then got the Apple-knows-better-than-you tone and said there is no way to use an "inferior" version of itunes anymore.
Is there any hope?

Any new Mac will come with the newest iTunes installed. Now something I don't really know much about but could be an issue is according to what I have read iTunes is now more intergrated into the system of the Mac. It used to be a pretty much stand-alone application which you didn't even have to install. How integrated I don't know. It may still be possible to delete iTunes using one of the many reverting back to an older version method posted here. Using older operating system components is not something you can do though, since they may well cause instability in a computer that was designed with a newer system in mind. However, I don't know if iTunes is really that much part of the system.
Realize also that you will be forced to upgrade should you ever buy an i-device since those require the version of iTunes current when you make the purchase.

If the above does not work, or you want to do it without Pacifist, or you want to know what is actually going on when downgrading, or you encounter error messages, here's more details:
Quit iTunes.
Get iTunes 10.7 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576 or the direct download link at: http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
Do a few preparatory steps by making sure all iTunes components are not running and cleaning old files.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/20475394. Do steps 3 and 4. Steps 6-8 may be also useful but I don't know if they are essential. Some of the other steps are not necessary, duplicate steps listed later in my post or are perhaps even unhelpful in the process.
Replace the iTunes 11 application with iTunes 10.7. Simply dragging the application to the trash may not work. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved. Two ways to do this are:
1. (Easier) Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files. Details at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16400819&postcount=6
2. (More work) Check this reference on how to delete the iTunes application itself:

    After deleting the application there may be other files that need downgrading too. See the note about error -42408 at the end of this post. You may want to tuck these away somewhere safe until you have completed the installation of iTunes 10.7. I have not tested this but ideally if newer versions are not found then the installer will put in the old versions. This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:

After doing one of the two procedures above you will have to rescue the most recent old iTunes library from your iTunes > Previous Libraries folder. Rename it "iTunes Library.itl" and replace the existing one in the iTunes folder. A newer version of iTunes irreversibly updates your library file so you have to replace it with the old one or you will get an error message. Note, this will revert your library to the version at the time of the upgrade and you will have to update any changes made since. See:

Just updated my Mac and Thunderbird now keeps crashing after a minute or so of running. Please help me fix this!

I just migrated all my old data from an external hd onto my new MacBook. I see my website data, and I put it in the Sites folder, but opening iWeb prompts me to start a new website. How do I continue working on my website, i.e., open my old files in iWeb?

iWeb '08 stores your website data in a domain.sites2 file located in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
You need to copy this to the same location on your new Mac and then double click the domain file to launch iWeb for the first time only. After that you can launch your site from the application.
If you open a new site in iWeb first you can save the blank domain file in a new folder for starting new sites.

Getting a new Mac - how do I keep my preferences?

I'm about to get my replacement Mac - after taking so long to get my preferences in logic "just right" (not an easy thing, especially with buffer settings and stuff!), I don't want to lose them.
I'm re-installing Logic from scratch on the new Mac. What file or files do I need to keep from my current Mac to preserve the preferences? (And my templates, too?!)

For the preferences go to Users/'you'/Library/Preferences folder and copy the com.apple.logic.pro.plist file. After you've moved and reinstalled the lot, put it in the Users/'you'/Library/Preferences folder. Your preferences should be identical then, including custom key commands.
(BTW it never hurts to copy that .plist file for backup. In case the original gets corrupted at some stage, you can replace it with the (known to be working) backup copy, without having to go through all the prefs again.)
It may be wise to migrate your personal stuff using the *migration assistant*, part of the OS X utilities. If you insist I can make a list of all locations where presets, channel strips, templates etc are located, but I believe the Migration assistant can syphon it all over. Even including the prefs (.plist) file.

How to fix 'wobbly' effect after stabilizing in Final Cut Pro X? (10.1)

I have a ton of helicopter aerial footage from a Holiday I went on in 2013, I now would like to make it into a short clip however it is shaky and it is easily stabilsed and made smooth but some of the footage has that 'wobbly' effect. Especially the shots where you can see the mountains it's like jelly movement? How do I fix this? I tried the rolling shutter tool, useless. I have tried everything in FCPX itself out, still nothing! ? How do I fix this?

I'm using Inertiacam as it stabilises my footage vs smoothcam and has less wobble but still is wobbly. I've tried applying the Rolling Shutter feature but that is useless for this. Now it looks like I have to use third party softwares to correct this 'wobble' , just trying to find one! One person reccomended me Avisynth, but it's a script or something? (I have no clue)
Here is a screenshot of a video I have with smooth cam (it's turned right up) and look at the mountain range, it keeps distorting in the video - as you can tell it's an ugly look esp when the next cut is a perfect one.

How do I keep all of the layers of a file

I am using CS5 photoshop.
My friend is using the creative cloud.
We are collaborating on a project.
These are simple graphics screen for Ipad home menus.
He has sent me some files that I need to edit slightly, but every time there is a problem.
I get the following error message.
If I choose flatten, then I can't edit or modify the project.
If I choose keep layers, essential information is missing. Certain graphic elements are gone.
Is it the downloading that is the problem?
Will this problem still happen if we do a flash drive transfer?
Can this work with me being on CS5 photoshop?
How can I get the complete files?

Mac Mini Late 2011 keeps restarting after shutdown.

Hi, I had my Mac Mini Late 2011 installed with Mountain Lion yesterday (25 July 2012). The installation was successful but I cannot shut it down.
When I shutdown, the system goes down and the display goes black, but after 3 seconds it starts up again showing the message that the Mac is restarting because there was a problem and ask me to push a key on keyboard to continue or wait for 40 seconds and the system will automatically continue.
This happens repeatedly. It does not shutdown.
So I decide to do the clean install the Mountain Lion but it does not solve the problem.

I have my problem solved now.
My case, the Mac Mini mid 2011 and the Mountain Lion. I tried clean install the ML with no migration but this did not solve the problem.
"evanluke" posted in another thread (thread no.19044865 https://discussions.apple.com/message/19044865?tstart=0#19044865?tstart=0 ) that when he read the system report, it showed system panic event related to graphic driver. He is using the Mac Pro so it is not difficult for him to remove the relevant hardware.
But for me, the Mini, I have to wait for the mercy from Apple.
So, I tried changing my monitor from HDMI to VGA using the DVI to VGA cable connecting to another monitor port.
The display was ok though I could not set proper resolution. Then I switched back to HDMI, ** leaving the DVI connect to VGA monitor **, then shut Mini down. it went down properly with no self-restarting.
I started up the Mini and shut it don again and again, no restart happened.
I want to know what if I remove the VGA connection, it did self-restart again.
Reconnecting the VGA, no self-reboot.
I must leave DVI to VGA connect to both end to stop self-reboot problem until Apple realize the problem and post the update.

Mac Pro Mid 2010 keeps restarting after installing OSX Mavericks

my Mac Pro Mid 2010 started quitting and restarting after installing the Mavericks OSX. I was thinking about wiping out the drive and reinstalling OS X Mountain Lion but thought I should see if anyone else is experiencing these issues before going that route.
It just intermittently restarts and it tries to restart multiple times before it will actually start up again. It's not issuing a crash report. It just quits out and restarts. It started doing this just at initial startup. It now will quit and restart at any given time and it will take multiple times attempting to start before it actually starts up. I've even had to shut it down because it would going through that startup sequence without starting. No perceivable pattern as to why this is occurring. No specific programs that it occurs in. The only thing I know for certain is that it started happening after installing Mavericks OSX – OSX Mountain Lion was fine. I also made sure to unistall Mountain Lion before installing Mavericks with those potential issues of trying to install one operating system over another. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My iPhone keeps deleting all my contacts. I have all of them in the iTunes backup but after a few seconds I open my phone they are being deleted. I think that's because I deleted all my contacts from iCloud. How can I keep them after I backup?

Restore from itunes backup and turn on airplane mode before they gone. Turn off contacts under settings - icloud.
turn off airplane mode. Delete icloud account. Sign back in and merge contacts.

When you say a new user ID, are you referring to your Apple ID that you use to make purchases in the iTunes Store, etc? Or are you talking about a new user account on the same Mac?

Ok, so my whole family has the same apple ID so that we can all get the same music, and we want to be able to use icloud so that when one person buys a song it will push to all of our devices. But the problem is when I want my calendar on my mac to also be pushed to my phone it pushes to all of my familys devices. go to itunes preferences, store, uncheck automatic downloads. also when your phone is connected you can click on apps and only check the ones you want on your phone, go down to the bottom right and click apply.
