PSP to Airport Extreme and Mac G5

I have read all the posts on this problem and still no solution. When I go to Airport Utilities to reconfigure, the dialog box says it cannot communicate with the Airport, so I cannot change the config or the WEP. The PSP always gives the message of "timing out" when trying to find the IP address.
Help and thanks.

Have you tried a "hard" reset of your AEBS yet? (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451)

  • Windows XP SP 2 Home and Airport Extreme and Mac OS X 10.4.11

At this time my girlfriend just had a Comcast connection in Howard County Maryland installed. She does though want eventually to connect a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11 to the Comcast connection. I don't know where to read the settings to copy into the Airport Admin Utility of an 802.11n Aiport Extreme base station so both the Mac and the PC will be able to share the same connection, and then what settings to configure on the PC to be able to see the airport settings. If someone has a step by step set of instructions I can see to read in XP, I'll see if I can follow them. Bear with me, as it may take a couple days for me to get over to her machine and see where the settings are. I won't be doing it until after I purchase a Time Capsule to replace my existing base station at my home, and move the Extreme base station to her apartment.

Comcast's cable internet service uses the standard DHCP protocol to provide client computers with a connection and an IP address. Since this is the default configuration of Apple's base stations, they should "just work" when plugged in to Comcast's cable modem. Resetting the modem connection is often necessary if it has previously been connected to a computer - do this by unplugging the modem from power for five minutes or so.
There is no special configuration required on either Macs or PCs to establish a wireless connection to an Airport base station, particularly one that hasn't yet been configured for wireless security (ie the default state). Just select the Base Station's wireless network and connect to it - that's it.
In its default configuration, the Airport Base Station will be able to connect with Comcast, share the connection, and allow PCs and Macs to connect to it wirelessly. The only configuration of the Base Station that should be done is to (a) give it a unique admin password, (b) give it a unique name for the wireless network it is transmitting, and (c) select a security protocol (preferably WPA) and a wireless security password. That's it - and the Airport Utility will walk you through that whole process the first time around.

  • Airport Extreme and Mac Mini on different networks

    Hello ALL,
I am creatng a Mac Mini server. I have the Mac Mini connected via ethernet to my new Airport Extreme. I read somewhere that for server purposes, I should wire the mac mini versus using the wireless connection.  My Extreme is bridged with the Uverse 2wire modem and I have wifi disabled on it.  The problem I have s my ipad and iphones are all on the wireless network created . I use remote apps for the mac mini. As of now the remote apps do not recognze the mac mini becuse its connected via ethernet.  Any solutions for ths? Can i turn on Ethernet and Wireless at the same time?    THANKS!!

My Extreme is bridged with the Uverse 2wire modem and I have wifi disabled on it.
The it on the end of the sentence could equally refer to the Extreme or the 2wire.
I think you mean the Extreme.
Can i turn on Ethernet and Wireless at the same time?
The context suggests you are talking about the mac mini but you could equally well refer to the Extreme.
Do not mix up domains.. I think this is what the problem is. If you have wireless on the 2wire and the idevices are getting IP from the 2wire, they are also getting a domain.
Mavericks is very sensitive to domain. The domain by default on the AE is local .. but the domain on the 2wire could well be your ISP.
I would recommend you turn wireless on .. on the Airport Extreme.. not on the Mini. And see if the idevices when connected to the same domain can then also connect to the mini.
    Tell me your results.
A netstat scan is a great tool to use in the Mac.. open the network utility and see what you get for domains. See if the phone etc are on a wrong domain.

  • Can I connect an external hard drive to one of the ethernet port of the airport extreme and access it from my Mac or PC?

Can I connect an external hard drive to one of the ethernet port of the airport extreme and access it from my Mac or PC?

If this hard drive is part of a NAS device, then yes it should be accessable from either a Mac or PC while connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) by Ethernet.

  • TS1253 i have airport extreme, and printer works with my imac, but not with my mac book pro??

i tried setting up the printer under my wireless network only, and using the printer information, tried both and nothing works, my imac's same settings for the printer, and just cant get it to work.
i am ussing airport extreme, and it shows printer conecting etc. but then it says not programed correctly and it fails.
i dont know what else to try, i have followed every step on the manual, and nothing works..
    someone help me

Could you open System Profiler on the iMac and the MBPro and select the Printers entry. Then in the top right pane you can select the printers entry and the bottom right pane will show information about your setup. Can you copy this information from both Mac's and paste back here.

I am using TM Unifi with an ASUS RT-N18U Wi-Fi router.  I would like to know could I use Apple AirPort Time Capsule to extend (repeater, booster) my Wi-Fi to a part of the house where the Wi-Fi signal is poor
Yes,, if you plan to connect the AirPort Time Capsule to the ASUS router using an Ethernet cable connection that will remain fixed and permanently installed at all times.
No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Time Capsule connect wirelessly and extend the Asus WiFi signal, since it would not be compatible with another manufacturer's router for that purpose.
Another way of saying the same thing here would be that if you want to extend the network wirelessly, it will take two Apple routers to do so

  • Just bought a brand new Airport Extreme and having trouble with it being recognized. I have a Mac version 10.5.8. Is my computer compatible?  I have the Airport Express now and it works fine.

Just bought a brand new airport extreme and having trouble with it being recognized.  My mac is version 10.5.8.  What should I do?

The new AirPort Extreme needs the 6.x version of AirPort Utility, which comes packed in with Lion 10.7.5 or Mountain Lion 10.8.x......or......you can also configure the device using an iPhone or iPad running a recent iOS.
    From Apple's Specifications:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    A few options.....
Borrow another Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion for 10-15 minutes and set it up. The Mac running 10.5.8 will be able to connect to the wireless....but it will not be able to make any changes to the configuration of the Extreme.
Update to Lion or Mountain Lion.....but check first to make sure that your Mac will support the operating system first.
Use....or borrow an iPhone or iPad to set up the Extreme

  • Windows, Mac Non-wireless Mac, Airport Extreme and Printer

I bought a Canon Pixma MP500 printer at the Tice's Corner Apple Store. We wanted to put this in the back of our Airport Extreme and did so. Here is our hook up:
eMac Airport Extreme Cablevision Cable Modem
    Printer
The eMac goes through the ethernet input, and the other ethernet input goes to the cable modem. We have a printer in the back hooked up as well. This Airport Extreme provides wireless security and working WiFi internet to the eMac, a wireless iBook G4 and a wireless HP-Compaq NC6220 Windows XP computer. We have the macs hooked up to printing correctly, just not the HP-Compaq. Thus it is wireless nad connects to our internet interface fine (yes, the wireless switch is on), it is a company computer with a VPN and firewall (that allows for printer installation). Note that the HP-Compaq nc6220 uses Intel ProSet Wireless as its wireless client. I tried installing Bonjour for Windows and the steps in the article in the link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107998and it did not work. Therefore, I cannot wirelessly print on all 3 computers. The main problem is the HP-Compaq. I am out of things to try.
If anyone has any advice, I would apreciate them to post back. Check back soon,

If the PC is connected to the work VPN then it is part of the work network and can no longer access local resources on your network such as a printer.

  • Port Forwarding for Two Macs, one Airport Extreme and one Dynalink RTA1320

I had previously set up PortForwarding for some of my Applications on my iMac with an Ethernet connected Dynalink RTA1320 Modem by assigning myself a Static IP in the iMac`s Network Preferences.
All had been good, green smilies on Azureus when D/Ling bitorrents, Skype, WoW and Limewire all running fine.
I`ve now just recently purchased the latest Airport Extreme and 17" MacBook Pro.
Setting up a Wireless Network for the two Macs to access the internet was a breeze and both computers run fine online simultaneously.
I manually set the Ports on the MBP Applications: Skype, Azureus and Limewire to match the Ports I`d previously PortForwarded the RTA1320 to.
However, on the new MBP, Skype, Azureus and Limewire don`t seem to run too well.
I get yellow smilies on Azureus and a "Port Appears Closed" message on the NAT Test and my Skype Contacts are leaving me messages saying I always appear "off-line".
The iMac Apps still work flawlessly.
I`m guessing the problem is something to do with two Macs on a Wireless Network with one Static IP Address or what am I doing wrong?

  • I just bought a mac mini...can i just connect an ethernet cable to the airport extreme and set up the mini through an existing mac

I just took the mini out of the box and hooked it up to the airport extreme through a direct ethernet cable between the two.  Can i find the mini and set it up through an existing mac that is also hard wired to the network?  Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response.. I don't have a monitor nor a wireless keyboard to use on the mac mini...apple salesguy at bb tells me that I can hook up the mini to the ethernet port of my airport extreme and find the mini using finder on my 27 inch mac.
that my regular mac would see everything on the mini and that i can proceed to set everything on the mini through my regular mac...
I am trying to purchase the server software from the app store and turn the mini into a server..
that is what i am attempting to do.

  • I have some how deleted my Airport Extreme and the Mac wont recognise it ...i have a 1st gen AE

Having purchased a Airport Express to extend my network the airport utility would not recognise it .....so tried to delete current settings and reinstall Extreme and express . Now it says that because of Maverick i cant reinstall the extreme ...very frustrating ...

What are the respective model numbers of your AirPort Extreme and Express? Examine their cases for a four digit number preceded by the letter A.

  • I'm having a hard time setting up my external hard from with my AirPort Extreme and Time Machine Backups.

I have been using a Mac Mini with an external hard and Time Machine.  I bought an Airport Extreme and have had problem setting up the hard drive using the USB port on the Airport Extreme.  I also just recently bought a Mac Book Air and hope to have both computers back up to the external hard drive using Time Machine and Airport Extreme.  I have been using the optical drive from the Mac mini to load programs into the Mac Book Air.  I think I'm just getting confused in Finder.  I am just not seeing the hard drive.  I ended up plugging the hard drive back into the Mac Mini and that is work fine again.  How do I setting the external hard drive up to the AirPort Extreme and use for both computers?  Or at least to start with the Mac mini.

It's critical to understand that Time Machine (TM) stores backups differently between local and network drives. That would mean the TM backup on your locally attached USB hard drive will not be directly useable when it is connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). There is a way to copy a local version to a network version, but it is not fool-proof. When you do connect this drive and point TM to it, TM will start a brand new backup, leaving your existing backup as is.
If your current backup is critical to you, you may want to consider getting a second USB drive to attach to the Extreme and use your existing one as a backup ... or use TM's multi-backup process to backup to more than one destination drive alternatively.
So, at this point, you may want to make a decision on how you want to go forward to help provide a solution for you.
To directly answer your question, when you go to select a destination for a Time Machine backup, the drive(s) that show up under "Backup Disks" are those that TM already recognizes and has backed up to. Those listed under "Available Disks" are drives (either local or on the network) that TM can back up to.

  • Airport Extreme and external HDD - cannot be found under Windows (XP/Vista)

    Dear All,
I am about to loose it. I have an Airport Extreme (7.4.2), most recent version (802.11n)connected to my cable modem. Attached is a 2TB HFS+ Formated HDD. I have a number of machines. My primary machine is a Dell XPS with Vista and MacDrive installed.
Now: On my AirPort utilities through the Dell the different HDD's connected via USB (I have tried half a dozen) are all visible. They are shared and I have tried all options, e.g. "with Disk Password" etc, tried to give and deny access to guests etc.
I have tried various things incl. switching off the firewall has not been a success either. I am basically ready to buy a Mac now, but I am worried that the problem will persist for all my Windows based PC's.
Who can help with a step to step guide? tried the TCP/IP settings on the XP machine as well (entering the IP address of both Airport Extreme and Express).

    Hi!
I've got the same problem as of Friday when I upgraded my Notebook from XP to Windows 7.
It does not recognize the HDD anymore, neither on the Windows7 Notebook nor on 2 different XP- PC's.
I disabled the password functionality and removed the HDD several times, no change.
When I look to the data volumes overview in the system settings, all internal HDD's and the CD partition of the Toshiba drive are shown. The HDD partition of the drive is shown as "non allocated".
Is there any workaround to get access to the data????
    Best regards,
    Helmut

  • New Airport Extreme and iPhone Issues

I've had the networking day from ****. I previously had a 3rd Gen Time Capsule at our restaurant, connected to a Cisco 26port gigabit POE switch and Comcast digital voice and internet. Over the past few days, employees have reported trouble accessing the the Wifi network. After several restarts and firmware upgrades (including the dreaded "firmware problem" to fine update), nothing worked. I changed channels, back to auto, back to specific channels, back to auto. Made open guest networks. Nothing worked consistently. My iPhone might connect and my friend's might not. Nor his laptop consistently. Our Axis network cameras might take a bit extra time to connect. All quite random and quite frustrating.
So I swap out an older Airport Extreme (4th gen I believe) using the same configuration as the TC (Time Capsule). It works fine, except for the last port not working as expected. No matter, I plug the mac mini into the Cisco switch and off we go. Nevertheless, I'm still told we are suffering random Wifi issues. So I buy a brand new AE (5th gen) today to replace that one. Should work like a charm I thought. Right....
Several hours later, I finally have the new AE working, but only after doing several hard resets/factory restores, the works. For some reason, the mac mini could not successfully update any of the connected AEs - whether connected directly into the same AE, or if the Mini was connected to the switch. Nothing worked. Every time I tried to update the AE, it would hang and force me to unplug and plug it back in. It would also never save setting changes. I finally resorted to a friend's macbook to be able to restore it successfully. And once that worked, the mini was able to update the AE flawlessly. Our Point of Sales (POS) machines connect fine, our cameras connect fine, wifi printer connects, and the mini connects, and everything has internet.
Except my iPhone 5. Of course. It gets a signal fine (full bars). It gets an IP address. But I can't surf the web. Or download email. Or iMessages. Anything. No internet access. I try hard restarts on my iphone. I try assigning IP addresses by MAC address. I try resetting the AE. I try renaming the WiFi name. Nothing. I can make a guest network that works (on a different IP table, btw - 172, not 192.) But other than that, no access. Grrrr.
So I have a "working" AE router where some devices successfully connect (through wifi and ethernet) and some dont' (wifi iPhone). My iPhone connects fine to my home TC. So shouldn't be anything to do with that. But I'm at a loss. I'm going to go back and restore everything and power cycle everything tonight or tomorrow night. I don't know if that will help, but it's worth a try. Lord knows it feels like I've tried everything else.
Anyone have any good ideas of where to start besides voodoo dolls and baseball bats?

I took mine back, because I was having these very same issues. We use contivity too. I was able to connect only to one of three of the servers we manage (in Europe). I couldn't connect to the servers in Asia or here in the USA.
Replaced the Airport Extreme with my trusty old d-link 624, and no issues connecting to any of the three hubs.
Otherwise, I liked the Airport Extreme, and I'll consider buying it again when and if they address this VPN issue. I work at home so its obviously a "deal breaker" for me.

  • Can I connect a 4 TB USB drive to the airport extreme and use it as a network drive for Time Machine

Can I connect a 4 TB USB drive to the airport extreme and use it as a network drive for Time Machine

Yes, if the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The USB port on the Time Capsule is under powered, so you may need use a powered USB hub with the 4 TB drive...even if it has its own power supply.
