PST Migration using PST Capture tool 2.0

Hello,
I am planning to use Microsoft PST Capture 2.0 tool to import PST's located on C: Drive of users to personal archive mailbox of the respective user in the on-premises exchange 2010 mailbox.
There are total of 16000 users. I am wondering will PST Capture Tool, be able to handle this huge requirement? Based on past experience, can anyone suggest me healthy practice of planning PST migration using PST capture 2.0?
Any help on this will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Kapil

Make sure you spec the PST Migration server properly, also, the number of PST files is not the problem, It's the size of all the PST files.
From my experience keep an eye on the disk space because If you are using a DAG once you start the migration the DB log files will be massive and you will need to run full backup to clear them so make sure you run backups every 12 hours to clear the logs.
If you batch them each night to a reasonable number your environment can handle everything should be fine.
Cheers

  • PST Capture Tool

Having issues with the PST Capture tool.  It will find and locate the PSTs. When importing to the mailbox, it errors.  It will transfer it to the staging folder but errors afterward. Error is Import Error: Error opening pst file.
Pst capture is running as local admin.  Account on it is set to Organization management permissions with global admin. Outlook 2010 64 bit is open and running.  The account has access to the destination mailbox.

This might happen due to the issues of calendar items in PST file. I would suggest you to uncheck non-mail items, including  Calendar items and All other non-mail items (contacts, task, notes, etc).

  • PST Capture Tool does not populate my Office 365 mailboxes

    Hi all,
-I have installed PST capture on a win 7 64 bit machine with 64 bit office 2010 sp1.
-I can successfully sign in  to the online connection.
-I have made sure that the account I am using to sign in is assigned organization management role.
-dot net 3.5 sp1 is is installed. and outlook is configured with the office 365 admin's account open in the  background.
The Problem is that I am still not able to see the Office 365 mailboxes when I try and select "set mailbox" On reading various other posts on the internet lot of them mention to leave it for a while and the mailboxes will populate. Its now around 3 to 4
hours but I cannot see any mailboxes.
    Kind Regards

    Hi Rana,
Just for your reference, The user account you specify on the Online Connection Settings tab of the PST Capture settings must be assigned the Organization Management role.

  • Error in PST migration using PST Capture tool

Hi, I'm trying to migrate some local PSTs to our Exchange Online mailboxes. We have all Office 365 Small Business.
I've tried to use PST Console with Agents correctly installed on the domain PCs, I installed the console on my PC and I see all of them. Just for test purpose, I'm leaving the other computers alone, and trying to migrate my personal PST to my own online
mailbox (I installed the agent on my own pc, of course).
I configured PST Console as described on the Technet article https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh781035.aspx , using my account (I'm the administrator) - and the "Check password and connectivity" says it's all ok. I've disabled UAC and
my local user is in the Administrators group.
When I try to import my pst to my mailbox, after a while the process terminates saying "Import error: Error opening PST file". The log file reports as follows:
    16:59:07.181|Debug |Provider |1 |OpenPSTFile: C:\PST\f487cccd-87d8-4231-a25a-2f410230b982.pst
    16:59:07.181|Debug |Provider |1 |OpenFile: C:\PST\f487cccd-87d8-4231-a25a-2f410230b982.pst
    16:59:07.191|Debug |MapiAccess |1 |CreateProfileAndLoadPST RedGateMapi42_{CAEC6B45-4BF4-466E-A019-76DECFB8D342} on C:\PST\f487cccd-87d8-4231-a25a-2f410230b982.pst
    16:59:07.191|Info |MapiAccess |1 |Initialize
    16:59:07.201|Error |MapiAccess |1 |Initialize failed to MAPIInitialize : 80004005
    16:59:07.201|Error | |1 |HRESULT c004ab03 in function RgMapiAccess::CreateProfileAndLoadPST, line: 389, (file RgMapiAccess::CreateProfileAndLoadPST)
While doing this Outlook 2013 (32-bit) was closed, and also was OWA.
I've searched the internet for information and found that someone else have encountered this error, but so far I've found no good solution.

From the Exchange online control panel I can see and modify all the mailboxes, thus I guess I have full access.
The manual pst import works well.
As a side note, in the Exchange control panel, I've seen that I have delegate access to the mailboxes I've tried to import (mine too), so I think I have the right permissions and the program has successfully set it.
Now I have another problem: I was doing another import attempt, but when I try to select the remote mailbox clicking on "Set mailbox..." link, now the list is empty, showing "No mailboxes foud for Exchange Online". I tried to re-enter
my credentials and close/reopen the program but it still stays empty. Yesterday it showed all my company mailboxes.
I'd like very much to use this tool, but I'm seriously thinking to do the migrations one by one manually...

  • Why is the PST Capture Tools so blasted slow?

The only thing I can find from my testing is that the office 365 / exchange online servers cap your upload or they need a better pipe. My network resources are not even close to being exhausted nor are my systems yet it is taking a ridiculous amount of time
to upload these PST files. I already know that MS is going to point the finger at our systems or network so here are some figures that I pulled.
As you can see from our firewall the current upload speed to MS servers is 67 KB/s.
Our bandwidth capacity currently is about 60 mbps which transates to around 7500 KB/s.
Here is a current shot of system performance on the system doing the migration
Don't even tell me I need more RAM. I could put 92GB into this system and it wouldn't make a difference. Please MS admit that you have a problem and do something about it. I don't see how we can sell this if enterprises can't access their old email while we
transfer them to the cloud. If you really really think it's something else I would be happy to do any test you would like otherwise please give the community a realistic expectation of improvement with your service.

    Hi,
This is Exchange forum, and I'm not familar with Office365. In order to resolve the problem more efficiently, I recommend you post to Exchange online forum. You might get a better answer in the Office 365 forum.

    Thanks for your kindest understanding.

  • PST Capture error when trying to import .PST files

I am currently migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 on prem.  I have installed PST Capture 2.0 and 64-bit Outlook 2013 on a Windows 2008 R2 machine and have installed the PST Capture 2.0 agent on a workstation that has some .pst files
on it.  PST Capture finds all the .pst files on the workstation, but when I use PST Capture to try to import PST files into a mailbox on Exchange 2013, I get the error "Import error: Error opening mailbox [email protected]".
I created a userID with a mailbox to run PST Capture.  Based on the instructions at
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh781035%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx I have made that user a member of the groups that are assigned the Public Folder Management role, the Mailbox Import Export role and the Organizational Management role.  The
user is also a local admin on the machine running the PST Capture console.  While the error sounds like a permissions issue, these are the only permissions I could find documented for PST Capture.  I am starting PST Capture with "Run as administrator"
Any ideas why this isn't working?  Are there any other permissions that the PST Capture user needs?  Is there anything else I need to do?
Thank you very much for your help.

Generally PST capture tool allows you to search for PST files & import these PST files
to the mailboxes but as your account is not getting connected, so you need to check settings of your PST Capture tool :
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh781032(v=exchg.141).aspx
If this solution does not work out for you, then I would advise you to use any professional
tool for exchange migration like CodeTwo , Stellar. From my personal experience, I would recommend you to go for Stellar Mailbox Extractor for Exchange Server as it migrated my mailboxes to another Exchange Server in quick time.

  • PST Capture 2.0 - Import Errors - Unable to translate Unicode character

Currently using the Office 365 service. I have installed both the PST Capture Console as well as the 64-bit Agent on to a Windows 7 64-bit laptop which has Office 2013 64-Bit installed.
Scenario: A misconfigured retention policy in Office 365 accidentally deleted thousands of email messages from an employee's mailbox. We've obtained the .ost file and using a Third Party tool have converted the OST to a PST file. I am able to add the file
to my Outlook profile and see the recovered contents. Normally I would just copy the contents of the PST file back to the mailbox but it randomly errors out during the copy process forcing me to start over. The PST is roughly 8.5 GB.
I setup the PST Capture tool to try and migrate the PST contents back to the mailbox. I am able to locate the PST and import it to the mailbox in question but when the import has completed, it says "Complete with errors". Reviewing the Message
Alerts tab, it has 70,314 errors (pretty much every email). The error is difficult to understand but it is the same for each item:
"Unable to translate Unicode character \uDC47 at index 6 to specified code range"
Looking for any suggestions/advice on maybe what to look at.
    Thank you all!

I went to Shared Components -> Static Files -> Create
I have split my exported application file, creating various size files for testing, ranging from 380 Kb to 1638 Kb (halves, quarters, eighths). Sometimes I can upload; sometimes I can't. Typically I can upload several. But once I get the error, it's fairly consistent in failing but not 100%. At least once, I've uploaded all four quarters of the file plus an additional half of the original (4 eighths, all different). But I can't find the pattern of failure. The most consistency I see is once it starts failing, I can almost always get it to be successful again if I click around APEX and come back to uploading.
I've tried to upload one half of the file. That failed except for the first few times I tried to do it. It always failed when I tried to upload a second half of the file. That's why I continued dividing the file into smaller pieces. I thought maybe there was something inherent in the file causing the problem. But since I have subsequently load all four quarters, I guess that can't be it.
I've also deleted files at various times throughout. Sometimes I can upload and sometimes I can't after that. And again, often I can get back into "Success" mode by clicking around the interface and then returning to upload files.
    Thank you,
    -J

  • PST Capture Import errored: Complete with errors.

we did a migration from Exchange 2007 to 2010, we already have PST files and want to import them using PST Capture to the new Mailboxes in the new domain.
while importing we were faced with an error saying "Complete with errors, hresult e_fail has been returned from a call to a com component", in the IPM subtree.Any solution to address the problem?
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Please double check whether the .pst files imported successfully (ignore the error message first).
If there is anything corrupt, I suggest remove the request and re-import it for testing.
Since I am not familiar with the PST Capture Tool, I suggest asking Script Center for help to get a script to perform the .pst files importing. For your convenience:

  • PST Capture to Office 365 fails with Import error : Error opening PST File

    Hello everybody
    I was dealing for more than a week to make it work this tool, Capture PST.}
Already have all requirements: and tried to install in different environments like Server 2008r2 or Windows 8 (not 8.1)
PST Capture Console is installed on the Domain Joined Machine.
You have mentioned that the User Account (PST Capture Tool's Service Account) is a Local Administrator on the Machine running the Tool.
You also have the Outlook 2010 X64 installed
And you have created the outlook profile for that Service Account.
Also not have any non-email items on my pst, is only a test PST with 2MB emails as a test.
I came back from Office 365 forum and they said you are the best guys for this topic.

    Dear friend
Finally make it work after 2 weeks of war. Is not a product that you can use in your production environment, because have several complains.
Only works with PST which have Mail items (non calendars, or task, or contacts) and even you can not have a folder structure inside your Inbox, so it is not worth it.

  • PST Capture Service

I am using PST Capture Console to import a test PST file into my E1 O365 mailbox.
I have completed the Online Connection Settings and the check works with my login and the correct server name.
I have followed the permission requirements
You must be logged on with local administrator privileges on the computer where you run the PST Capture Console.
The user account that the PST Capture Central Service uses must be mailbox-enabled.
The user account that the PST Capture Central Service uses must be assigned the Public Folder Management role in your Exchange organization.
When I try to import the single test file manually the file loads and shows the percentage then a complete message. Followed by
'Import error: Error opening mailbox [email protected] '
    Thanks

    Hi Andrew,
From your description, please verify the following things for troubleshooting:
    1. Make sure you have Outlook 64-bit installed on the PST Capture host computer.
    2. PST Cap Tool Console on the host computer and pst agent on the OL client machine are located in the same DNS zone.
    Hope my clarification is helpful.

  • Need an Outlook PST repair tool for MS Outlook 2010

My Outlook mailbox messages are corrupted. Someone has suggested to me use advanced PST repair tool.
I have no idea about this one utility. Can anyone suggest useful reference ?
    Regards:
    christa

    Hi Christa,
In case of severe corruption, Scanpst.exe don't work, that's why Scanpst.exe is getting terminated during
mid stage of repair process. So, the only way you are left with is to try any third party Outlook PST Repair tool. Though I have never used any PST Repair tool personally but while searching on Google I have found the following tools:
    http://www.stellarphoenixrecovery.com/software-for-pst.php
    http://www.dd-pst-repair.com/
    http://www.cimaware.com/main/products/outlookfix.php
I would suggest you to try the demo of these tools first before purchasing the full version.
