Psu of mega 651 and card reader

Hi ive got 2 quick questions i need help with
1/ I've got these components in my mega 651
512 pc2700 ram
120 gb hd maxtor
2.8 p4 processor
64mb geforce 4 mx440
Pinnacle Tv card rave
I want to upgrade my graphics card to ati Radeon 9200 128mb, and put in another stick of 512 ram. (same brand and speed)
Just wanted to know if the mega 651 psu, could handle these changes and run smoothly?
2/ I cant seem to install the card reader, its never been reconised in windows xp with the "new hardware detected", i've tried pluging and unpluging it from the motherboard, but that doesnt work. Is there settings I need to change in the bios, and what should the card reader be under in device manager?

as for your card reader problems, i fear you may have a faulty unit.
There should be two devices listed under "Disk Drives" in Device Manager:
OEI-USB CompactFlash USB Device
OEI-USB SM/MS/SD USB Device
and in My Computer you'll see two "Removable Drives"
The other possiblity is that you are running an old version of Windows XP without Service Pack 1 installed, which has a USB patch included. Do other USB devices work?
Its possible that the devices are not being recognised because this patch is not installed. Visit Windows Update to download the latest updates.
Lastly, make sure that the USB controller is Enabled in the BIOS settings.
Thanks for the reply, I'm using windows xp with sp1 and updates, all the other usb ports seem to working ok, so i think it just may be a faulty card reader

  • Things to know before building a Mega 651 (and other things you should know afte

Okay, following hot on the heels of the "things to know" series on Mega 180 and 865, I thought I'd just chip in with this short post on what you should know before splashing out on a nice budget Mega 651
    PROCESSOR SUPPORT:
The official list of supported CPUs can be found here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/slim_pc/slm/pro_slm_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=431&kind=4
Basically the ageing SiS651 chipset does not support Celeron / P4 cpus above 533mhz, and does NOT support the newer "Prescott" core cpus
    Celeron > 400Mhz FSB
    P4 Northwood > 533mhz FSB (512kb L2 cache)
    MEMORY:
Basically to add to what is listed in the 865 "things to know"; from my own experience of using MSI motherboards in the past, ALWAYS use good quality branded memory, as using cheaper "generic" types inevitably leads to major problems. I know for a fact that Crucial, Kingston and Samsung types work well in MSI motherboards, and you should be okay with other high-end brands like Corsair and Geil.
    DRIVERS:
DON'T bother using MSI LiveUpdate! The drivers provided on the cd supplied will work, but if you wish to download the latest drivers, you will find them here:
    http://download.sis.com/
    Download and install the:
Chipset Software > SiS AGP (Gart) Driver
IGP Graphics Drivers > SiS650 and 740 series
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True
    for Realtek AC97 Audio drivers
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?lineid=1&famid=3&series=16&Software=True
    For Realtek Onboard Network interface
The modem drivers supplied on the CD should work, I really don't know much about them as I have never used them (sorry). Failing that, if you are connected to the internet, Windows Update should be able to find them for you.
    OPERATING SYSTEM SUPPORT
MSI state that only Windows XP is supported on Mega 651 (and other Mega barebones). Other versions of Windows (98, ME, 2000) will work provided you have drivers for hardware devices, all of which are provided on the install CD or from the links supplied above.
You'll find that earlier versions of Windows won't have the drivers for the built-in card reader, so you may have to do a "google" search to get them. On my Mega 651, they are listed in Device Manager as "OEI-USB" devices.
If you haven't already got Windows XP then I suggest you consider upgrading at the earliest opportunity; Microsoft themselves no longer support Win 98 / ME and most new software is being designed to work only with Windows XP
Please note that MSI do NOT supply or support drivers for Linux; if you wish to attempt to install Linux on a Mega 651 (or other Mega PC model) you will need to obtain drivers yourself. The remote and LCD display functions will also not be available under Linux, unless some clever bod has developed drivers to do so.
    MEGA RADIO AND LCD DISPLAY:
Download the Mega LiveUpdate for Mega 651 from here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_detail.php?UID=431&kind=4
This will update your MEGA Radio program, update the BlueBird HIFi module firmware and allow you to set a "greeting" displayed on the LCD display when you switch on HiFi mode. Apart from that the LCD display serves NO other purpose in PC mode.
After updating the firmware, you should power off your Mega 651, unplug the mains power cord for a few seconds then reconnect and restart for changes to take place.
    OTHER MSI SOFTWARE:
If you REALLY must try out MSI Media Center III, it does work on the Mega 651, but I don't think the remote will work correctly.
Although PCAlert 4 has been reported to work on the Mega 651 - having read the numerous problems most users have, I don't advise installing it. If you do get it to work correctly, unlike on the Mega 180 and 865, it will not display temps or fan speeds on the LCD display, as this feature only works on the 180 and 865, as they use diferent LCD displays.
    EXPANSION CARDS:
Same as with other Megas, you get 1 AGP and 1 PCI slot.
The AGP slot only supports up to 4x cards; a faster card will work, but only at 4x.
Space is limited, if you decide to fit a PCI TV tuner card, you will be limited as to which AGP card you can fit. A full length card is probably not recommended, and a model with a slimline (or even passive) heatsink would be best.
A better alternative would be to go for a VGA card with built in TV tuner, such as MSI TV5200-VTDF128 or an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder card (ATI AIW is supported in WinXP MCE05)
    ON-BOARD VGA
The SiS651 chipset is pretty old now, and the on-board SiS650 VGA is not up to playing any of the latest games, as it is only DirectX 7.0 compliant and does not support Hardware Texture & Lighting. However, it is adequate for playing back DVDs as it supports hardware acceleration (in PowerDVD for example), and general video output is decent. The maximum shared video memory size is 64mb.
The Mega 651 does NOT feature TV-out as standard. You can however either buy an AGP video card which includes TV-out feature, or the Mega TV-out card (availble in UK from www.dabs.com). Please note, this card is ONLY for Mega 651, and does NOT work with the 865 model. (The 180 does however, thanks to nforce2 chipset, support TV-out as standard)
    ON-BOARD AUDIO
The Realtek ALC650 AC97 audio codec offers 5.1 surround sound (with suitable speakers of course  ) as well as SP-DIF for digital output.
The sound quality is quite reasonable; i'm currently listening to MP3s through a set of Creative Inspire 5.1 speakers, and its certainly good enough for me.
There are three audio connectors on the rear, they default to:
    GREEN - Front speakers
    BLUE - Line In
    PINK - Mic
To connect surround sound speakers correctly, you need to use the Realtek audio configuration tool (located in the Taskbar by the clock). Set the speaker config to 4 or 6 channel (5.1) and then click on the boxes to the right to configure the rear ports correctly
    GREEN - Front speakers
    BLUE - Rear Speakers
PINK - Subwoofer / Centre Speaker
NOTE: If you do decide you want to install a PCI soundcard, be aware that you will lose the Radio function in PC mode, and for audio output in Hi-Fi mode you will need to reconnect audio plugs from your soundcard to onboard sockets. The Hi-Fi mode and Radio only work with the onboard audio.
    POWER SUPPLY
All the Mega series barebones come with a 200w PSU. Don't even think about upgrading to a higher output type, as the Mega PSU is a non-standard type. A standard ATX PSU will NOT physically fit inside the Mega case. Besides which, the Mega series have a special connector which powers the Bluebird hi-fi module and on-board sound when the PC is off. And there is a special Molex power connector for the CD/DVD drive, also for that to be used when PC is off.
    WINDOWS XP MCE 2005
Media Center 2005 requires a DirectX 8.1 / 9.0 compliant video card with a minimum of 64mb RAM, 128mb RAM is recommended, however, for best performance. So you will need an AGP card, because SiS do not provide any MCE-compatible drivers. The TV@anywhere TV tuner (MS8606-10) and Mega TV Tuner (MS8606-40) are not supported by MCE05, because MCE2005 requires a TV card that will provide a direct MPEG2 stream, which a PVR card such as the Hauppage PVR MCE series can do (as a hardware card, MSIs card are software only and rely on drivers to do MPEG encoding), or a dedicated DVB-T card which receives an MPEG2 signal over the air.
    MEGA 651 REMOTE
If you fit an MSI TV@anywhere card to your Mega 651, the Mega remote can be used to control the MSIPVS software, providing you use the remote receiver supplied with the TV@nywhere card. The Mega remote is designed to work natively with the MSI Media Center, and MSI Mega Radio programs only.
If you wish to program the remote to operate other programs within windows, then you will need a program called Girder, and the accompanying MSI plugin, kindly provided by nathan. please see his sticky thread for more info, about his plugin, and how to obtain Girder.

  • Iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files downloaded from camera and card reader. Nor will it allow me to transfer from image capture

iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files from either the camera and card reader. Canon Eos rebel dig. Nor will it allow me to transfer images from image capture to iphoto. No problem downloading to image capture.

Sounds like a damaged card.  Get your photos off the card with Image Capture and then reformat the card in the camera.  Take some pictures and see if the card is recognized by iPhoto and the card reader.

  • MSI MEGA 180 Deluxe - Card Reader

Does anyone have any advice on getting the card reader to work?
It was working untill I installed all the software from the install disk. Then I rebooted and it had stopped working.
I have since done a complete fresh install, but still have the same problem.
Not really conversant with BIOS settings, so don't know what they should be.
Have installed all updates for the Mega 180 from MSI website, and also have ALL updates from microsoft. (All 110MB !!!!! Thanks god for broadband!!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to bios, and check in Itegrated Pripherals->Onboard Devices->OnChip USB.
This must be enabled. I have there V1.1+V2.0, and cardreader is working.
I was disabled this, when i installed WinXP, because cardreader start from drive C: and my HDD was like drive F:. So I disabled it, installed WinXP, and then enabled OnChip USB. Now i have A: (virtual drive) C: (Hard Drive) E: (DVD/CD-RW) F: and G: (CardReader).

  • Camera Connector and card reader

When I connect my compact flash card reader through the Camera Connector it immediately recognizes it and when I confirm I wish to load the pictures it will download many of the pictures ... then it just hangs.
It can't be a bad jpeg because each time I try it ... it hangs on a different picture.
I have tried several different compact flash cards and they all do the same.
The pictures which it loads are just fine.
I wouldn't think that it should be some kind of compatibility issue because it works straight away ...
If I quit out of the loading ... it will hang at that point.
When it hangs I must boot out of the condition.
    What would cause this?
    Anyone else experience this?

Uh hem, found the recent topic dedicated to this question. Unfortunately, not much is compatible!

  • Best External Hard Drive and Card Reader?

    Hi, guys and girls:
I am going to work as a data manager on a TV series. I guess data manager is the name, or loader, they shooting everything on the 5D or 7D, there not sure yet and I have to download all the data of the camera and save it on a hard disk, make backups and all that.
They ask me for the best hard disk, and I probably would choose a Lacie, but I have heard bad things about them so I want to make an informed desition.
Wich are the best disks or the most reliables for what I am going to do?
I also need a good card reader, one that uses firewire 800 to make things as fast and reliable as possible.
So what card reader would you recomend?
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, to nail it down a little bit.
I have read that there´s a problem with pins in the scandisk card readers so maybe the best option is the Lexar one but some others say that the lexar is worst.
    So confusing
    What do you think?
I am talking about the firewire cards or maybe the express one for the older macbook pro

  • Message on the iPad screenCamera and card reader used to much power.

This message we got when trying to send pictures from a Camera and a specific Card  reader to an iPad.
Changed to another Card Reader and all went well! Never heard or saw this message before! Very curious if some one has seen the same message and I wonder why? Tried it on two types of iPad!
Thanks in advantage for a reply!

What type of camera is it ? I know that some Canon cameras need a 'transfer method' menu setting on them changing to 'PTP' - does your camera have a setting which allows you to use PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol or Pictbridge) or 'mass storage device' ?
For the card reader, a lot of readers require more power than is supplied to the iPad's dock - only one of my CF card readers works with my iPad.

  • Mac OS X 10.4 and Card Reader

Astonishing: the reader is listed in the System Profiler.Until now I have not receoved any useful hint from Sandisk - so I am thinking of switching to another reader. Can s.o. make a recommendation. • Qosmio G35-600 - Control buttons and card reader don't work

    Hi,
So I recently installed windows XP on my Toshiba Qosmio G35-600 and I found all the drivers except for two. If anyone out there could help me find them that would be great.
    1) The first driver I cannot find is for the Toshiba control buttons at the top of my keyboard (I believe that is what they are called). Quosmios have 12 buttons on the top above the F keys, and currently only my power button, the brightness up and down buttons, and the dolby sound buttons work. The analog TV button, the media center button, play, stop, previous, next, record, and s-video out buttons don't do anything anymore. It would be cool if i had an s-video out ability again but mostly what i want is the play, previous, and next buttons to work.
2)The second problem I am having is with my built in SD card reader. A few times I thought I found the correct driver but after installing it the SD card was not showing up in my computer.
A preemptive thanks for the help,
    Xamboni

    Hello
I think you should install the Toshiba controls for Windows XP that you can find on the Toshiba website. Check this!
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com
The driver for the SD card slot you can find on the Toshiba website too.
What SD card have you tried?
Try it with an other SD card and use the Toshiba SD card utility to format the card.

  • Satellite A300 - dvd, usb and card reader will not work

    Help required please.
Have a A300 Satellite laptop, running vista.
Until a couple of weeks ago all good, then noticed the dvd/cd did not recognized and disc in it. The card reader cannot find anything on the card (and yes the card was full).
The usb scanner is recognized as a external memory card and the other usb port does not fuction.
I have not installed or cannot remember changing settings or doing anything out of the usually.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi
    Your posting is very confusing.
    > Until a couple of weeks ago all good, then noticed the dvd/cd did not recognized and disc in it.
Well, there are many reasons for that; it could be possible that inserted disk is not fully compatible. Try different disks from different manufacturers.
It could be also possible that laser lens of the ODD is dirty. In such case you could clean it using a cotton-wool tip and alcohol. In my case this helped.
    > The card reader cannot find anything on the card (and yes the card was full).
Did you use a compatible card? The notebook handles these cards:
    SD Card 8MB - 2GB
    SDHC Card - 4GB
    xD picture card - 16MB-2GB
    Memory Stick - 8MB-256MB
    Memory Stick Pro - 256MB-2GB
    MultiMediaCard - 8MB-1GB
miniSD (with SD adapter) - 32MB-2GB
I would also recommend to format the card and to copy some files from computer and then to test this.
You could also reinstall and update the driver for card reader controller...
    > The usb scanner is recognized as a external memory card
Cannot believe that You should use a scanner software (should be provided with the scanner) and should test this device. By the way; mostly a scanner driver needs to be installed in order to use this

  • B570 USB ports and card reader result in error of "not accessble" until system is restarted

    Hello,
I have a new IdeaPad B570. Whenever I plug in my external hdd or other device (like iPod) in any of the three usb ports I get an error that the drive is not accessible...until I restart the computer and then it recognizes it with no problem.  The same thing happens when I put my SD camera card into the card reader.  This is annoying for things that should be plug and play.  However, when I plug in a mouse it connects immediately.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Is wireless lightscribe and card reader in 10.6 and my HP C8180 possible ??

I am very happy that I can finally scan from my HP Photosmart C8180 WIRELESSLY since it's connected to my wireless router in Snow Leopard. This was not possible in Leopard.
Not having to plug in the USB cable to my laptop to print is great.
    But
Can I use the other features of the printer in Snow Leopard now? Can i use the built-in card reader to look at an SD card wirelessly?? Can i burn to the built-in optical/lightscribe drive on the HP C8180 in Snow Leopard?
Or are those features still limited to USB?
    Thank you!

Can i use the built-in card reader to look at an SD card wirelessly?? Can i burn to the built-in optical/lightscribe drive on the HP C8180 in Snow Leopard?
If it's working now otherwise, can't you just pop an SD card in real quick and find out? Same with the optical drive and a CD-R?

  • Import fails from camera and card reader

I am unable to get Aperture 2.1.2 to import from either my camera or a CF card reader. I have a Canon 400d (Rebel XTi), shoot RAW only, and have used it for a while in Aperture without any problems, but suddenly it refuses to import.
Aperture 'sees' the camera, opens the import pane automatically, but once the import process starts, nothing happens. The little spinning import indicator just spins...no images download. This behavior is the same for either the camera or card reader. And it happens with different cards.
The only way I can import images is to drag them from the card in the Finder, and then drag them from the Finder into Aperture.
Message was edited by: Ed Roppo

I had this problem after the raw update 2.2 with images from my 1d-mkii. After the 2.3 update things went back to normal. There's something not entirely right with the current raw version from apple. My hunch is it's all going to be ok after the 10.5.6 update, which shouldn't be long.

Does the card read work when monitor is plugged into a MacPro?
I did not install any software but just plugged my 2407wfp into my Mac Pro using DVI port and it recognized the montior. I inserted a cf card into the monitor but nothing happend. Do I need to install any software for the usb ports and card readers to work on my Mac Pro?

It should do. What I think you've missed is to connect the USB uplink cable (a standard USB2 A to B) from the display to your MP.

no problems with memory stick card.i also have to new drives-it has to be like that
no special drivers needed (win xp included).optimized for "ejection" (not performance).
Maybe it's a technic problem .check all connections.
