PSU sutiable for a MSI FX5900 Ultra 256MB?

Guys,
Is this PSU sutiable for a MSI FX5900 Ultra 256MB?
It's a 520W HiperPower PSU Quiet Triple Fan (Active Fan Control) Active PFC.
Sorry Wonkanoby and Deathstalker I just cant afford a Antec or Enermax at the moment, but this PSU does not look so bad?
Click this link to see PSU power details

You just have to dig a bit further into that link...(albeit for a 350)
From the numbers and the reviews, looks half decent. Only thing that catches the eye is the rather low max amps on the +3.3 in light of the overall TCO. (Should be a problem only if you have gobs of memory and things powered via the USB.)

    Hi All,
I have just bought a MSI FX5600XT ULTRA 256MB Graphics Card
    Just a few questions -
    1) Do the latest 5303xp drivers work well with this card, is this card supported
    2) Does DX9 work well with this card or is it better sticking with DX8
Any advice , suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

  • MSI FX5900 Ultra 256 MB and MSI 648 MAX

I have just installed my new FX5900 Ultra graphics card and when ever the card runs any 3D application for more than a couple of minutes, my PC will instantly shut down. The only way I can get it back up, is to remove my power cable from the PSU and wait about 20 seconds and then the PC will boot again.
I have checked the temperature of the card before and after the shutdown; and the latest Nvidia reference drivers show a GPU core temperature of 37 C. In addition, if I put my original GeForce 3 back into my computer, I experience no problems.
Looking on the internet, I have come across other people who have had a similar problem and this was resolved by changing the AGP slot to run at 4x rather than 8x. I have gone through the 648 Max BIOS and am unable to find anywhere where I can step down to 4x AGP.
Any Help Will Be Greatly Received.
    Regards,
    Macross

Thanks for your help guys. Whilst I have not been able to pick up my new powersupply, I have removed the Q-Tec 400W and put my old 300W PSU back, and guess what?? My PC has not shutdown since.
This power supply lark is totally new to me, and it does seem that a good quality 300W PSU can be better than a average 400W. I have never looked at the 3.3, +5 and +12 before, just the total wattage. Well, you do live and learn. Though it would have been nice if MSI put information like this in the manual of the card, or the WEB FAQ's.
I shall pick up my new 520W PSU on Saturday. Then I can put this new 5900 Ultra through its paces!!
    Thanks
    Macross.

  • MSI FX5900 Ultra Installation

    Hi,
I'm having difficulty installing the drivers for a MSI FX 5900 Ultra.  The following explains:-
    1.  Upgraded to Gigabyte 8KNXP motherboard with 3.2 MHx P4, 1 GByte DDR 3200 RAM and MSI GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, using same hard drive without re-installing the operating system initially.  PSU is a 430W Enermax.
    2.  Had trouble (as described below) installing FX 5900 Ultra drivers but eventually after a few attempts it appeared to work but there were problems with a flight simulator (Falcon 4) locking up frequently so decided to do a complete re-install.
    3.  Re-installed Win98SE, with the FX 5900 Ultra being the only card fitted and it worked correctly on the Standard VGA drivers.
    4.  Installed nVIDIA 44.03 drivers by running Setup on the MSI CD.
    5.  Restarted when prompted, reached Windows Logo screen, then reached C:\ prompt but would not go any further.
    6.  Restarted and it went to Safe Mode on the Startup Menu.  Continued the restart in Safe Mode and Device Manager showed MSI MS-Starforce GeForce FX 5900 Ultra installed, hardware version 161, on IRQ 5 with "This device is working properly".
    7.  Restarted and went to startup menu again then selected Normal and continued the restart.  This gave "Windows protection error.  You need to restart your computer."
    8.  I've tried installing the drivers by using "Update Driver" in the Device Manager and browsing to the CD but the same thing happens.
    9.  I've tried installing DirectX 9.0 before installing the FX 5900 drivers and the same thing happens.
10  I've tried the nVidia 4.03 drivers and the Detonator 45.23 drivers and the same thing happens.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

The motherboard chipset drivers (excluding those for the onboard LAN and audio) were installed before the nVidia drivers.
I re-installed the operating system (item 3 in my first post).
    P.S.
Just used Driver Cleaner and tried again but still no joy.

  • MSI FX5900 Ultra VTD256

After using the Radeon 9700 Pro for the last year I have decided to upgrade to the above.
It arrived today and all I've had is problems.
I updated al my drivers for my Chipset (Intel 860series), I uninstalled all drivers for the ATI Product.
I removed the old card and inserted the new card. On booting it found the new VGA Controller and started to install the software as per the manual.
After installation it rebooted and it was unable to boot, just came up with a blue screen for a millisecond, th all i could do to boot was use last know configuration (which does not include the Fx Drivers).
I have removed all devices from the PC just Keyboard and Mouse and installed again and still the same problem.
    Help: ;(

First Answer: yes Powered up no problems there,
    PC: Compaq Evo w6ooo Workstation
Power Supply: PFC 450watt Dual Voltage
    Windows XP, SP1
    2 x INTEL XEON 2.4GHZ PROCESSOR WITH 512KB L2 CACHE
INTEL 860 CHIPSET WITH 400MHZ FSB

INTEGRATED INTEL PRO/100+ MANAGEMENT ADAPTER WITH WOL AND AOL

Basically I should have no problems with this card, I think it must be the drivers.

  • MSI GeForceFX 5900 Ultra 256mb N-box prob...

I recently acquired a new VGA, it’s a MSI NBOX nVidia GeForce FX5900 Ultra 256MB DDR2 8x AGP video card and I’m having some problems with it.  Before this card I had a GeForce 3 Ti 200.  I know the basics about motherboards but I don’t know them inside and out.  Basically I know the slots and such, but I don’t really know what board I own.  I believe it is a M810LR motherboard and I’m running an amd athlon 1.2 Ghz processor on it with 512 RAM with I believe 310 watt power supply.
Anyway that is my system I’m running on so onto the problem.  I installed the card into the AGP slot, and it fit nicely.  I powered on the PC and it worked, I saw all proper boot up screens, I got to windows ME and of course my desktop pixel quality and color was dumb down because I assume the question of new hardware.  I put in the driver CD and installed the driver that came with the VGA no problems with the installation, then of course it asked to restart and I allowed it to.  I saw all the correct boot up screens and when I got past the windows ME screen, my monitor went blank when it should have showed my desktop.  The monitor was acting like it was not receiving any signal; I checked the connection and it was good.  The monitor was acting like it wasn’t receiving anything so I restarted, and again the same problem.
I forced the system to start up in safe mode and it worked, but of course you cant get to a CD drive in safe mode and I want it to run outside of safe mode so I tried one more time in normal mode and the screen went blank again.  It was working before with the regular nVidia driver before I installed the MSI driver so I figured I would try that, so I took out the GeForce FX5900 ultra and put my old GeForce 3 Ti 200 back in my PC so I could see what I was doing.  Worked fine, so I reinstalled the nVidia driver turned off the PC and put the GeForce FX back in the PC, turned it on and saw all the proper boot up screens, got past the windows ME screen, got to my desktop, and 30 seconds later it freezes, I try it 4 more times and every time it ends up with 30-60 seconds of working fine then the freeze.
I heard great things about MSI products and I would just like mine to work properly.

Ive been dreading upgrading to win XP for a while now, to afraid that I will loose some games or info (like GTA 2).. but im ready and going to upgrade it in 4-5 days. Oh and dont worry if it dosent work, you'll hear from me

  • MSI FX5900 128mb or 256mb

    Hi all
I have decided to buy a MSI FX5900 has anyone got the specs for the
    MSI FX5900-TD128 and the
MSI FX5900-VTD128 I need to know memory / clock core speeds etc. Not the ultra to expensive for what I can afford
I have found some info on the forum.
    FX5900 SP-VTD128
    VIVO, 400MHz core, 700MHz RAM
    The MSI FX5900-TD 128mb
    Product Specifications
    Graphics Core: 256-bit
    Memory Interface: 256-bit
    Memory Bandwidth: 27.2GB/sec.
    Fill Rate: 3.6 billion texels/sec.
    Vertices per Second: 338 million
    Memory Data Rate: 850MHz
    Pixels per Clock (peak): 8
    Textures per Pixel: 16
    RAMDACs: 400MHz
    FX5900-VTD128
    VIVO, 400MHz core, 850MHz RAM
My question is how much difference will 128mb of memory compared to 256mb be using the FX5900.  for games?
    Thanks

Thanks. I've done my homework on just about everything. I know 2gb of ram will be in it. I'll be getting the 160GB drive because of the speed limitations of the larger disk.
Mostly, I'm having trouble finding any real numbers showing differences between 128 and 256 vid memory with motion. It's good to know it wont make much of a difference with FCE by itself.
Does anyone have a link to any benchmarks pitting the two 15" models? Specifically, with motion.
Also, kind of on a similar note, but not related to final cut, does having the 256mb version place a significant impact on battery life?
    Thanks.

  • Power supply for MSI 645 Ultra mother board

I need to replace the power supply for a MSI 645 Ultra mother board. I've available a switching power supply Allied model DR-B500E, that doesn't have the -5V output (infact its 20 pin ATX power supply connector has no wire in pin 18).
Can I use this power supply with the MSI 645 Ultra?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, here I am. Sorry for delay but I had some problems with the PC (as NTLDR missing).
However now is ok and I can confirm that it runs ok also with power supply without -5V output.
Thanks a lot for the support and best wishes for Christmas and new year.

  • MSI 5900 Ultra ram specs plz!

    Hi,
I can't seem to find any information on what ram my MSI 5900U is using.  I know the msi 5950's are using 2.2ns ram.
can someone help clear this up for me please.  I can't find anywhere this information.

The MSI FX5950 Ultra uses 2.0 ns DDR memory, and the MSI FX5900 Ultra uses 2.2 ns Hynix DDR memory chips.

    Hi!
    This is what I've got.
    KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E)
    AMD 2000+
256 MB 333mhz RAM (AMD Compatible)
Seagate ST330630A 30GB (an old drive)
    Maxtor 6L080J4 80GB

Western Digital Caviar WD1800JB 180Gb 7200rpm Special Edition UDMA100 IDE
Western Digital Caviar WD2000JB 200Gb 7200rpm Special Edition UDMA100 IDE
    Promise 100 IDE-controller
    Creative Geforce MX 440
    Lite-on LTR-40125W
    NEC ND-1300 DVD
    And the configuration:
    IDE1: Seagate (Master)
    IDE2: WD1800BG (Cabel Select)
IDE3(Raid1): Maxtor 6LO80J4 (Master) and Maxtor 6Y080L0 (Slave) raided as an single drive
    IDE4(Raid2): WD2000JB (Cable Select)
    IDE5(IDE-controller1):
    IDE6(IDE-controller2): NEC ND-1300 (Master) and Lite-on LTR-40125W (Slave)
    And the Software:
I've updated all the software drivers so I've got the newest and I'm currently runnign Win2k SP3 with almost every patch installed on it.
    And finally the problem:
When I've hook my WD2000JB to the on-board raid everything seems to be working normaly. The bios finds the drive and makes a new array. Win2k boots up and finds the drive and I can create an partition. But when I've try to format it it the computer starts to freeze for a while and then acts like normal again. The HDD-led blinks as it should during the "normal" time, but when the comp. freezes it stops blinking. The formatation stops at 7% and the HDD-led stops lighting. I don't get an error eventhough it was several hours since it stoped. And the formatation takes like 30min for 1%.
When I connect the WD2000JB to the IDE3 I can format it and it acts just like normal. I even did a full system test with the System tool found on Western Digitals support site and it didn't find any errors. But when move it to the raid-IDE the errors return. I've get Error reading / writing to disk and when I've did a chkdsk I've got the "Coudn't use Device) so I did a scandisk and it found very very many errors so it completly ereased everything that was on it.
And when I've run Western Digitals program again i've get an error (Disk error read/writing) error code: 0113.
Can it be that the Western Disk doesn't work well with Raid? I've haven't heard anything about that, so...
    Best regars,
    Mathias

I've had similar problems where my system becomes very unstable at higher bus speeds. Installing Windows XP simply didn't work very good. However, I have ordered a new PSU today as a solution to this problem. Basically, CPUs and video cards are much more demanding and the more devices you have in your computer the more power you're going to need. I recommend purchasing the Enermax EG465P-VE (FCA) 450W ATX PS. It has a higher amperage rating and will most likely solve your problem.

  • MSI - KT3 Ultra-ARU Raid + XP

    Hi,
I have just built a new system using the MSI - KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard and am having issues instaling Windows XP professional.
The system has been set with 2 Maxtor HD on Raid 0 Stipping.
On installing Windows XP and Raid Driver 2.0 that comes with the board, XP continues to load the files needed for setup, while in this process it will have a read/copy error. As much as you retry it will not read. This happens on different files each time I try to install and is not a bad CD.
    Any suggestions ?

  • PSU Query for MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU running 3000xp

    Hi There,
Before buying a new Motherboard I was just wondering if the problems I'm getting are related to the PSU which is about 5 years old. I've just upgraded my processor to a Athlon 3000 XP 333 FSB which goes into the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E v1.X) motherbaord, which I've upgraded the Bios to version 5.7, I've also  upgraded my graphics card to the Leadtek Geforce FX5900XT which also plugs into the PSU. When setting my fsb to 166 my PC either won't boot or when I try to run say 3DMark it just freezes, but when I set my FSB to 133 it works fine. I was wondering if it is trying to draw too much power from the CPU.
I don't really know how to write the PSU details down correctly so I've just copied everything from the unit.
