PT-880 NEO-LSR can't handle new memory ??

I recently decided to improve the performance of my "gaming rig" by pulling the Corsair value memory and just replaced it with Corsair twinX1024 PC3200-XL. I was impressed with the reviews and the out of the box "plug-n-frag" feature that will boot up at the timings of 2-2-2-5. Very tight timings for someone who isn't really interested in any major overclocking. The problem is that within 10 minutes of installing it on my PT-880 NEO-LSR board the system crashed. After some head scratching and continued crashes, I decided it was the new memory. The Corsair value memory never had an issue in dual channel mode. So I ended up running MEMtest86 on it, and it passed. So back to square one again. Well, after alot of trial and error I decided to go in the BIOS and turned off "auto by SPD" and through lots of experimenting , have it now stable with the following settings : 2-2-3-6 @2.75v. Well, It's very stable now with no crashes for 2 days. So can anyone tell me why this board can't handle the default settings of this memory? Are the extremely tight timings too much for this board? I really want to get what I paid for, and am open to suggestions to make it run stable at the advertised 2-2-2-5. If it helps, my system is as follows: MSI PT-880 NEO-LSR w/ latest BIOS flash v1.9 (I think thats the number), P-4 3.2ghz (Northwood), thermaltake silent Purepower 420watt PSU, Seagate 120gb. SATA HD, Gainward Golden Sample Geforce 6800 GT (overclocked), Creative Audigy2 soundcard, lite-on 52x CD/DVD rom combo , and lite-on 8x DVD burner drive. I built this system myself, but until now have never had to manually set timings to get it to run (unless overclocking). Maybe I'm finding out why there are $70.00 Mobo's and $200.00 mobos ?   Thanks in Advance group for any help!

NovJoe,  Just wanted to let you know that Corsair was good enough to respond to me and gave me a few "tweaks" they wanted to see me try.  Although on this Mobo I can see no where to set the burst length to 8 as they asked, and for some reason the The SDRAM Active to Precharge (tRAS) can only be manually set down to 6T and not 5T as they wanted. I ended up resetting everything back to "auto by SPD" (reluctantly awaiting the big crash again on reboot). Much to my amazement it has been running for about 2hrs. now without a crash on the same auto settings it refused to run at 2 days ago when I installed it. Really strange huh? So being the memory newb that I am.....how can I view what it's actually running the timings at presently under auto settings??    Thanks- Herb

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Neo 2 can't handle PAT

Hi, I have the following system in my signature. I have 512x2 Kingston DDR400 RAMs working on default frequency and timings. (Default:2.60, i use 2.75) When I enable PAT my pc face with some difcluties in booting. For example after bios logo PC stops responding with a blank screen. After a reset though it starts. Is there any solution for this problem?

    Yes, agree with Thunder.
And there's some incompatible RAM with PAT.
Some CL 2.5 RAM can handle up to Turbo (I think, if not Fast), but before I get my Corsair XL, I have LL series (2-3-2-6) which can't handle FAST (even at FSB 200)!
It only can run pretty stable (not really stable) if I bump to 2.9v. Dunno why. But my XL can handle that easily, and yes, it's 2-2-2-5  .
Oh, don't forget to set FSB=201. Give it a try.

If Firefox works fine in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.

It is a Pentium 4 board. How can the reviews be anything than mediocre, at best.
I wrote Socket A, but maybe in 2004 you could get an AMD64 system. They ran in eights around the Pentium 4, at a lower power consumption and heat dissipation.    Now, I think you could get one at a very good price. This is a mere 180$, even in expensive Sweden: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=325623
    Thanks
I am agree with you, but I still want to get a P4 board to replace my damaged one ,because it 's a easy and cheap way to solve my problem.

  • How to Handle the memory in JAVA??

    Hello,
I created one Editor using swing concepts. And I am openeing a file ( 8MB ).For that I am using a Sting Buffer in my program ( for reading the file)...But If I open multiple files in my Editor .... its taking so much time..
so for that I have to clear in STRING BUFFER memory..
SO GIVE ME SOME IDEA FOR THAT..
HOW CAN I HANDLE THAT MEMORY FOR THAT??
    Thanks and Regards,
    Bala

One thing you can do, is to allocate more memory to the JVM. The following JVM switch would use 256MB of RAM:
    java -Xmx256m

  • I can't handle any more problems with this K8t NEO

Hi all, I am new to the forum.
I will honestly say I have tried to read allot of posts before I spoke up but....
    I have:
    K8t NEO
    3200 64
    Updated to the latest BIOS
Corsair Overclocking RAM (I am looking up the specs)
    256 sick on slot 1
    256 stick on slot 3
    A new PS....something like:
    3.3v 40
    5v 38
12v 24 (the local CS gave me a hard time saying I DO NOT NEED such a big PS)
    Maxtor 40 gig ATA133
    NVIDIA 5600 256
    and dwindling patience.
anyhoo, I have had one problem after another trying to get this system to work.
It took 3 hours to find that you cant run 3 sticks of ram.
The manual is the worst one I have ever seen. and there is no phone number to be found to talk to tech support.
I am not getting anywhere with the email "support" from MSI....a DAY to get an abreviated answer that does not answer the specific question. It may be a viable system if they get more staff.
One question...why does the screen "push any key to boot from CD" get "missed"
and two.... I cannot install the OS. It will scopy all of its files and on reboot, i get a messasge about not finding the boot info or something...and to insert a floppy.
I gave up and ran a preloaded HD and it worked for a day until during a recording session, It crashed and when it rebooted it says it cant find any boot info...I should of wrote down the message.
    Now What??
    I have tried:
    A different HD cable
HD jumper settings (Slave / Master)
I tried a low level format.
    3 different HDs
    Bought the new PS.
I hope I do not have to send this thing in...I dont have hardly any free time. (does anyone?) IF it is needing replaced...do I deal with MSI or the Hindus (zboysz) I bought this Mobo from? I have nothing against Hindus but I CANNOT understand ANYTHING they are saying to me.
    Sorry for venting here.
    Can anyone can help?
    TIA,

  • Can a Pentium 4 "based" Celeron work on a PT880 NEO-LSR?

I'm asking cause I'm kinda strapped for cash and need my PC up and running soon till I can afford something better.
These new Celeron's by the way are made with the same P4 core right (just lower L2 cache). So there's no reason they shouldn't work in my board even though the NEO-LSR isn't rated for Celeron. right?

yea, this processor didn't work. I hate this MB. It's the first time that building a PC that this has ever happened to me.
The diagnosis indicated that Cpu was either damaged or not installed properly. I tried installing it six times, nothing. No message, nothing on the screen..nothing. I even took the heat sink off and turned on the PC and the CPU felt barely warm like it wasn't even plugged in.
I think i'm going to sell this board and call it a day.

  • Brand new MacBook Pro can't handle 720p Video in iMovie?

Well, my Black 2.0 GHz Core Duo MacBook has been replaced by the new 13" 2.26 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (I had to pay the difference) and I had it upgraded to 4GB of Ram and a 320GB Hard Drive!
I use a Kodak z1085 IS Digital Camera that records videos in 720p quality. When I import them into iMovie '09, I get this message:
This is the same thing that I got on my Core Duo MacBook. If I did not optimize the video, it would play choppy and could not keep up. On my new MacBook Pro, I still get this message saying that "my computer can't handle it." I can undersatnd my old Core Duo MacBook not being able to handle it, but when a brand new $2000 MacBook Pro can't handle 720p video, somthing has to be wrong here.
Are there cretin specs that indicate what computer can handle what? I'm guessing that this MacBook Pro CAN handle it, but why am I still getting that message? Do I need a $10,000 Mac Pro Tower system to make it happy?
Can anyone please explain this and help me out?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    +Well... for starters, the 2.26GHz MB Pro is not a $2,000 machine.+
Sorry...$1.5 thousand. Still too much for a brand machine that isn't "powerful enough" to run software that came out before the computer did.
+For all intents and purposes, it's an entry level notebook (despite the name "Pro")... with only slightly higher specifications than the white MacBook.+
So its only slightly better then the model that can only handle solitaire or any other basic application? I find it odd Apple would include iLife if these machines can't handle all of the features that they are supposed to. Pro means professional. that means this machine should be able to handle PRO applications like Final Cut, etc. But how can it if it can't even handle iMovie! Not to mention they screwed us out of using the old version...so I am stuck using this version!
+I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say your black MacBook was replaced by a new 2.26GHz machine... but you had to pay the difference... It sounds like you were perhaps having problems with your MacBook and Apple allowed you to upgrade to the newest version paying something additional. If that's the case, it sounds like they were very generous as you had a first gen MacBook that was about three years old.+
Yes that is exactly what happened. My Black MacBook had many issues. I sent it in for repair three times and even took it to an Apple store when I was on vacation. (don't have any apple stores where I live) All of these repairs did not fix the problems and they kept on coming! So they offered to just replace it. But they don't sell the Black MacBook anymore. Only the white...and I don't like the white (thats why I bought the black!) so that is when they offered me the MacBook Pro if I paid the difference. In which I did. So that is how I got my new MacBook Pro.
+Are you saying that your video plays choppy on your new machine... or just that you get the message stating that it may play poorly?+
Both....It shows that message, and does play somewhat choppy. Not as choppy as the old MacBook though.
Like I said, I'd just like to know what Apple calls "good enough" so it doesn't display that warning.

  • Where to find M.A.T. in BIOS of a 875P Neo LSR?

    Hi y'all!
    Currently I'm using:
    P4 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB
    2*512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 CL2
MSI 875P Neo LSR (BIOS v1.6)
    I'm wondering where I can enable P.A.T. or MSI's M.A.T.?
After reading something about BIOS version 1.6 enabling M.A.T. , I flashed from 1.2 to 1.6.
But where can I find this new option in my BIOS??
    Thank's :]
    Best regards,
    Arjan

Okay... Okay... This is generally for MSI, no reason to take offence.. anyone. Or maybe just the guy who never used computer(apparently) but designed BIOS for this board.
I Have NEO FISR2 motherboard, and the problems I have seem to be something like people here have.
PAT isn't enabled if you overclock. What ever you do, Ultra Turbo or turbo.. nothing helps. Is there a reson for this?
If I drop memory to 333 and raise FSB, should the numbers in BIOS at memory speed show what it actually is, never have done so... And if I raise FSB and memory speed is at 400MHz why isn't PAT enabled, memory isn't overclocked?
If I try to change manually setting for memory, like cas etc... Should it do something, or are these there just for fun, so you could IMAGINE the effects on your board.
Almost all memory related settings are in BIOS for some other reason than adjusting setting on this motherboard, they don't affect anything. At least not for me. Maybe I was wrong thinking this board could be user for overclocking, those volt settings propably are there for show too. Nothing to do with overclocking, because you will never get everything out from this board. At least not if BIOS is working like this.
I did simple test, raised volt for memory to 2.90. Whopee. Raised FSB to 230, and left the memory setting at 400MHz. Changed by hand Cas setting to more relaxed ones.
Quess, which changes of these actually did something? FSB and Volts. For some unbelievably stupid reason board changes automatically both CAS(VERY RELAXED) settings and memory setting. Try Sandra, see for yourself.
Please, let me know if I'm doing something wrong, this is new board and new BIOS, maybe I'm missing something...
OR this is the most lamest try I have ever seen to put out decent BIOS. Nothing makes sense, thank you very much for wasting hours and hours of my time while I was trying to figure out why everything didn't work like I expexted, after all, there where so many "pretty buttons to press" that did nothing.

  • Unable to install WIndows98SE/Me in Neo LSR?

Hi to everybody.  I have a very strange problem.  Perhaps you can help me.
I never tested my Neo 875P with Windows 98 SE or ME.  I have installed Debian 3.0 sarge (the testing version) with kernel 2.6.3 and Windows XP SP1, without problems.  I used to had a Windows 2000 Server for testing purposes, without any problem.
Yesterday, I tried to install Windows 98 SE.  I did this some months ago, but didn't work because the mobo had 1GB of memory (M$ recognizes Win9x and Me can't run with more than 768MB of memory).  I thought it was the reason and give up.  But, today, I have 512MB of memory, and when I try to install Win98SE doesn't recognize ANYTHING (including chipset).  There is a big yellow warning in the ACPI part and, whe I double-clic it, the dialog says the ACPI driver can't be started because "the system says it has two ACPI buses, so try upgrading the BIOS"   I have AMI 2.0.
I think the BIOS isn't the reason, but Win98SE.  Probably the ACPI implementation in Win98SE is too old for understand the new ACPI version.
I tried WinME, but the effects is worst: it didn't make it after the second reboot.
Do you know the reason? Thanks in advance.
    My system:
    875P Neo-LSR, P4-2,40cGHz running at 3,12GHz (260MHz × 12)
512MB RAM in Wintec DDR333 (running at 173/346MHz)
    BIOS 2.0

Q:Can i use more than 512MB memory on Win9X or WinME?
A: No, you can't. You can only use more than 512MB memory on W2000 or WinXP.
Maybe its the same problem for the 875 boards.
Wrong you can use, (and tested upto 1.5Gb mem with Win 98Se or ME).
    15. Win9x “Out of Memory” error using 512MB and over
Win9X can use up to 2 gigs RAM memory but you will have to edit the system.ini file by adding MaxFileCache=256000 to fix the out of memory bug.
Click Start > Run type Sysedit.
Click the sysedit.ini tab scroll to the [vcache] section, if the section isn’t there, add it.
Add MaxFileCache followed by =25600 with no spaces so that it looks like this: MaxFileCache=256000.
    Also, check link: http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread/t-43835.html
The other thing, with Win98 not loading/installing. The proper way is to build system with Fat16 or 32 OS first and then place NTFS OS on for dual/multi boot.
    I'm sure this will help.

  • MSI 875P Neo LSR Dead??

    Hi y'all,
Saturday 12th of juli I've bought some components:
    - Intel P4 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB
    - MSI 875P Neo LSR
    - 2*512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 CL2
    - Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro
    - Iiyama Vision Master Pro 413
After installing the whole bunch, I tried to boot the system but nothing happend!
So I waited for about 5 min. and booted again. This time almost succesfull but..... the only parts that were working are my fans (casefans, cpu-fan and the Northbridge-fan).
The powerswitch wasn't working (and it was installed correctly). I had to power the system via the powerswitch on my powersupply. So my guess was that my mobo was dead!
After returning the mobo back to my retailler, they concluded that it was dead indeed, so the gave me another mobo.
So after installing the new board, I tried to boot again, but still no succes so far.
My retailer tested the board again and it was also dead.
    Some symptoms:
    - Active fans
    - No HDD, floppy and DVD-player/Burner activity
    - Blank screen (display in standby)
    - Instant power on when I turn the switch on on my powersupply
I've tried different videocards, memory modules and clearing the C-MOS, bur nothing seems to help ;(
Can you please help me out????
    Thanks
    Best regards,
    Arjan

With regard to the motherboard stand-offs, motherboards dont always use the same amount or in the same position (the stand-offs are movable -either bending out of brackets in the case or unscrewing)
Always check ALL the standoffs line-up with screw positions for your moterboard before fitting, a wrongly positioned post can short-out PCB traces/pins
Another easily overlooked item is the square 4 pin 12v connector (older type power supplys dont even have one), the 12v power connector is located by the northbrige/AGP socket (the CPU will not start without this fitted)
Sometimes when physicaly altering a computer the reset or power-on (start) switchs dont line up correctly with their buttons -this can cause the switch to be permanently "on"
The power-on switch will cause the computer to "cycle" (constant restarting) and the reset switch will cause the computer to hang with-out initialising -try removing the reset switch connector from the motherboard
If none of those are the problem i would suggest trying a different power supply -or maybe your dealer could check the one you are using at the moment

  • MSI 875P NEO LSR versus Corsair TWINX

    HI,
I'm about to purchase the following parts:
    Mainboard: MSI 875P NEO LSR
Memory: 2 sets of Corsair TWINX 1024PC3200LL (2*512MB).
Is this mainboard capable of handeling 4 modules of the above memory?
I've also seen modules from GeIL, are they any good?
The module i've seen are: GeIL PC3200 Ultra.
I want to run my memory at the following timings: 2-2-2-5T
I believe Corsair is capable of that, but I'm not 100% sure if GeIL is. Atleast my retailer told me so.......
Can you please help me on this one? ;(
    Regards,
    Arjan

    Quote
My Corsair TWINX 3200LL runs fine with 2-2-2-5-8 settings at 400 mhz
    Ok, that's good to know
But do you know if the MSI 865 or 875 mainboard can handle Corsair TWINX 1024PC3200LL (2*512MB)? Because it's not mentioned in the memory.pdf file.......
    Quote
It may, or it may not, it just depends, running all 4 modules seems to make it harder to run at tighter timings.
Ok, so to achieve tighter timings, i'd better use 2 modules of Corsair TWINX 1024PC3200LL (2*512MB).
It's not cheap by the way..... it costs €375,- here in Holland. So that's why I want to know this memory ''thing''.

  • MSI 875P Neo-LSR & Northbridge Cooler

    Hi
Hi have a MSI 875P Neo-LSR motherboard and the northbridge cooler is making alot of noise!
I've already cleaned the dust from the fan, added some oil but it stills makes an anoying noise
    My question is this:
I don't want to spend €€€ in a new cooler because i'm upgrading my system in a few months so, will my motherboard survive without the cooler? But remaining with the heatsink...
I have a Thermalright XP120 with an 120mm fan in my CPU, which are very close to the northbridge, they might fresh a little the NB... And i got a good airflow in my case...
    My MB:

    Thank you for your answers!
Do you know the maximum temperature that the NB can get? Or the normal one...

So frustrating...just cannot seem to end the 2-3 times a week blue-screen shutdown my computer insists on.  Posted something a few months back on this, and consensus seemed to be that my 380w Antec Power supply was too small for my system, so I upgraded it to the TruePower550, really hoping this would end the problem.  It did not.
Seemingly corresponding with the errors I'm getting (it seems), is a disk error in the event properties that says:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk4\D.  Sometimes it calls this "Harddisk3" or "Harddisk2" for some reason, but it's always D.  My D: drive is a 160GB IDE that is pretty new and it's hard to imagine it's really failing.  Maybe, but I doubt it.  I replaced the IDE cable to this drive to no avail.  I don't know if the fact that my C: drive is SATA is contributing to this, though.
The blue screen error actually reads:
    0x0000007F (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Microsoft says this is either bad RAM or a bad mobo.  Both are just a few months old.  I have a lot of pretty new (expensive) equipment going here.
It seems if I want to have my Geil memory tested, I have to pay $49 at the computer store near me.  Which seems outrageous.  I could almost buy a brand new PT880 Neo-LSR for that.  Which won't help if the mobo is not the problem, but still.  The BIOS I'm running is 1.7.
Obviously I'm going to have to keep spending money on new equipment troubleshooting this.  It never ends!!  The question is, where to spend it?  On the RAM test?  On a new slave drive I might not need?  Should I just buy a new mobo?
Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated.

Well, I pulled the drive that was throwing the errors and sure enough, still getting the same errors/restarts saying the drive D (which is no longer in the machine at all) is at fault.  Ridiculous.
This has to be the board.  I'm convinced.
Time to buy (another) new motherboard.  This one must be like 4 months old or so.  Sheesh.

Can you remove the slave drive for now and see if that helps with stopping the errors, if not then perhaps RMA your Board as a mainboard fault will throw all kinds of errors at you.
I spent 7 months trouble shooting before i found out it was the board ... Iwould not wish that stress on anyone else. Any way good luck and let us know if you fix it.
